    This is awesome! Women need to be informed about how damaging hormonal birth control is. You have such an amazing platform to share this with women. The majority are so ignorant of this issue but I wouldn't recommend birth control to any woman , for so many reasons but one of them being it does increase depression massively and because most girls go on it young, they are not even aware this isn't their true self

    Hi!
    I've been on birth control since i was 15 (i'll be 21 soon) and its honestly been so long that i cant really remember how i was when i wasnt on HBC. but i have been very unmotivated, depressed, anxious and exhausted aaaall of the time. I've gotten lots of tests done to see what may be causing it but nothing has concerned my doctors. I just recently heard about FAM so i've been reading a book called Taking Charge of Your Fertility so that once i finish this cycle of pills I can just stop and know how to maintain proper birth control. After learning about the affects i'm reallyyyyy hoping that my moods are a factor of the hormones and not how i naturally am.
    Hearing that you have transformed back to being happy gives me so much excitement to get off the pill. I honestly can not take being this sad and unmotivated all the time.
    Love your videos by the way!! So nice to have someone talk about valuable life topics😊
    Jada

      +Jada Bee I really struggled with anxiety and nothing seemed to help. I read "sweetening the pill" and "taking charge of your fertility" and decided to see if discontinuing HBC would help. I could tell a difference almost instantly! Although, I wasn't 100% better instantly. It takes time for your body to get rid of all that stored hormone. But every month I have continued to get better. I am off of my depression/anxiety meds now. I plan to use the FAM method to prevent pregnancy. I will never use HBC again. My mental well-being is too important to sacrifice!

      Jada Bee I’m in the same position as you! I literally feel like I could have wrote what you did. I’ve been on HBC pills since I was 14-15 because I wanted to know exactly when my period would start so I could be prepared. I’ll be 21 in May. I just stopped taking the pill (on my period now), and will not be going back on HBC. I’m really looking forward to the changes in my body from not having all of these fake hormones in it anymore. Also, I am looking into purchasing the Daysy (currently saving up for it) and using FAM as my birth control. Good luck to you in your journey!

      Omg I’ve been on the pills since I was 14 and now I’m 20! I’m so happy that I’m not the only one who’s been on the pill for years. I have been in the same moods as you. I just thought it was normal until I really looked into what could be the causes. But I’m off the pill now. I can’t wait to get my body back to normal, even though I don’t really remember what normal feels like!

    I HATED being on the pill. I hated that the doctor said it was the safest and best method to prevent pregnancy. Coming off of the pill was awful. I had the worst mood swings, and migraines. I was on the pill for at least 2 years. But now that Ive been off the pill for a year, I am able to fully track my period and ovulation to the exact day. Its such an empowering feeling! We have been using condoms, and I am so glad that im not putting any artificial hormones in my body anymore. Awesome video! More girls need to watch this!

      No. Its been over 2 years and I haven't looked back. There's a 99% chance of preventing pregnancy. Just be sure to use them properly, don't forget, or get lazy. Also check out the copper IUD! No hormones. Ive heard good things about it too.

    When I went off the pill, I felt so much more energized, lighter on my feet and just happier. The only downside I experienced was hair loss. Fortunately, I talked to my doctor and she prescribed me pre-natal vitamins. It's been about two months now and my hair is already growing back. I highly recommend taking a pre-natal supplement just in case. Either way though, It's amazing going off the pill because you feel so much more vibrant and healthy. Even though I don't want a baby now, it's nice to know that I can have one anytime (which is part of being a woman in my opinion). Thanks for your videos and keep up the good work! I'm so glad your making a youtube channel about this topic. :)

    I was on birth control for 6 months and it scared me because my periods became almost non excitant. I'm stopping it because although periods are annoying, I'd rather have them and know my body is healthy then take them and never know if my body is really working like it's supposed to. It also made me depressed and anxious all the time.

    Hi, I'm so inspired by all your videos. I'm exploring using the daysy and menstrual cups now! I've been on the pill (on and off) since I was 17- now 21. Ive been on 3 different brands and strength pills. Have gone from 30mg to 15mg. I've always felt uncomfortable about using synthetic forms of birth control but I felt like i had no other options. The best of a bad bunch I guess ! I've had so many side effects on the pill(s)- super low libido, weight gain, no mental clarity, being irrational and crying/getting angry at almost everything/one. Please keep making videos! It's so great to see someone young(not "family planning!)and non judgmental sharing their experiences and sharing knowledge. Thank you ! 👏🏻

    Thanks for making this video! It really makes me feel better on my decision to go off my pill. I've had painful, moody, tiring cycles for 3 years before I went on the pill, and in a way, the pill saved me. After some trial and error with it I really started to feel better. I was attending more at school, I was focused and happy. But then, for the past few months I've just been getting worse. Feeling depressed, out of balance, feeling like now not only are my hormones fake, but the moods I feel (happy, sad, angry..) are also fake and not genuine. I also gave up on my healthy life style I used to have, just because now that my cycle pains went away I feel what I eat has no effect on me (which of course isn't the case). I've also been getting a lot more anxiety these past few months like never before. So finally, after a while of thought and a year of the pill I'm getting off it. My question is, do you think my symptoms are linked directly to the pill or are they more random than anything?

    • @FemmeHead
      @FemmeHead  8 лет назад +1

      +Naomi S They're definitely not random. Or at least that's what I experienced. I went through something similar. I feel so much more connected and better off now. I still get sad sometimes, but it's real, and in that sense it feels good. Once you feel connected to your body and what's happening within it that sense of ownership returns and you want to go back to that healthy lifestyle. I would also recommend "The Pill: Are You Sure It's For You?" it's a great book that talks about all of the side effects that no one tells you about. Best of luck Naomi!

    Hi there, I found your channel from listening to Lavendaire! Have you discussed the arm implant BC before? I’ve been on that for 5 years and omg it’s okay but when you said in another video about risk of gingivitis relating to BC I nearly flipped. I have never been one to have cavities but these past few years have been nothing but and at 23 I had to get a crown! I’m 25 almost 26 now and married. I don’t want kids yet but I also have noticed weight gain since starting BC 8/9 years ago. Like I gained 80lbs the first year I took the pill. I never fully considered not being on BC because I don’t really like barrier methods personally (and am allergic to latex) but from your videos I’m going to look into natural family planning ❤️ thank you for your blunt honest videos

    I cannot thank you enough for talking about this! I have been on the pill for almost SEVEN years (16y - 23y) without having a clue that it was bad for me. However, unconsciously I always felt more disconnected to my body. Your videos, among other articles, have convinced me to quit, but I want to do it responsibly. Does anyone have any recommendations on vitamins, supplements or food (I already eat mostly vegetarian) I can look into to support my body in this process or to get rid of the hormones in my body faster?

    Hi Gorgeous Femme Head,
    Thank you for talking about this! I had an Mirena IUD for 7 years - 20-27. Will you please let me know what you're eating or what you ate to balance your body? I went through severe depression and lost 20 lbs because I didn't want to eat. I am trying to eat healthier - Whole Foods, less sugar, and eat more fruits and vegetables. I eat meat on occasion, but I am scaling back on meat. I eat yogurt, kefir, and a little cheese. It's hard for me to know what I need to eat to get my body to balance. I am taking a thyroid medication because I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism while I had my IUD. Thank you for mentioning it may take up to a year to have my cycle return. I haven't seen it yet, but I will remain hopeful and do my best to eat healthy. Your skin is gorgeous and I am trying to clean up my lifestyle to have gorgeous skin and return to the happy, fun, bubbly person I used to be. I had no idea my IUD was contributing to weight gain, fatigue, sadness, moodiness - extreme, anxiety, depression, etc. I will embrace my cycle fully. Will you recommend a book I should read about women's hormones, bodies, and nutrition?

    Thanks for making these videos. I've been on various forms of birth control since I was 14 years old. I'm 24 now (10 years AH!) and I'm really scared to come off of it. I didn't get my period for the first time ever (thinning of uterine lining apparently?) and it freaked me out. I also haven't had ANY sex drive whatsoever in a few years, and it really affects my relationship. Recently, Nuvaring (my current BC) updated their side effects list to include low sex drive, so now I know I'm not crazy! I don't want to get pregnant just yet, but I also would like to know what normal life is like!

    Thanks for this series of videos. Did you experience any hair loss when you came off of the pill (immediately or months after)? I stopped taking the pill after being on it for 4 years a month and a half ago. I feel great but I am worried that hair loss might come around month 3 (I have read that while researching online). I just wanted to know if you have experienced that or know anything about how common it is or how long it may last. I already have had quite a bit of hair thinning due to the pill and would really not want to lose anymore.

    I'm 21 now, I started taking pill at age of 17. I tried to go off pills but the biggest issue is that my horroble acne and oily skin came back, so I started taking back pills. I don't want to take them, but it's such a huge issue with skin and I was at dermatologist so many times through the years and nothing was helping. I don’t take any meds to conflict with this birth control. It’s crazy because doctors push us to take birth control but don’t realize all the crazy side effects that come along with it. The good thing is as women we know our body. And we know when something is wrong.

But I've gained almost 10 lbs already. I'm an active person (weight lifting & yoga), as well as a vegetarian. So I'm extremely confused and disappointed with the pill :/ Although this past "Birth-control cycle" was heavenly, these symptoms and weight gain just don't seem worth it to me :/ I don't know if I should finish the pack or just stop right now.

It's dumb cuz doctors know what side effects the pill has so why not try to fix it. Plus why do is women have to suffer just so we don't get pregnant? Can't we take the pill and have nothing to worry about at the same time too? I guess not.

    Hey +FemmeHead ! I just wanted to know. When you got off the pill, did your awful period cramps come back? And did your period last for 9 days like it used to when you were a teen? I'm considering taking the pill because my cramps are unbearable and I've had several health problems during my period because of the pain... How do you cope with them ? Thanks xx

      Masha Ferret hmmm I think you should consider other birth control options like a non hormonal birth control. There is such thing as a copper IUD but idk if it will make your periods lighter like the hormonal ones.

    I'm on Loloestrin, for about six months now. I have only gotten my period once on the actual birth control. Never spotted or anything else after the first month. Did you ever experience this or has anyone? Also feel like I'm losing my sex drive and it's a horrible feeling on top of mood swings. Dont want to worry about getting pregnant but I'm so scared to also go off of it because I don't want to be depressed either.

      Im in the exact same boat with loloestrin, and I had been taking it for 5 months and had stopped the pill recently. I had very heavy breakthrough bleeding the first month, and then no periods at all, not even a little spotting. My sex drive was low, and I felt pretty depressed but otherwise normal. Coming off it, I feel my body trying to regulate hormones (been experiencing hair loss and nausea) but, hopefully, it will get better. It might be too soon to tell.

    Hii, first of all I recently discovered your channel and I love all the info u have regarding birth control. I just started on birth control myself bout a month ago, I have that rod-thingy in my arm that's gunna last three years. So even tho I've experienced my period coming 9 days too late and now been lasting for 8 days.. (Yeyy), I still wanna be on it because it keeps me from getting pregnant even tho I've had some roller coaster days. Bottom line, what would you recommend me to do to stay as "sane" and "normal" as possible while on this hormone? Any foods/pills I should consider taking? Tnxx

    • @FemmeHead
      @FemmeHead  8 лет назад

      +Eira Rønneberg Thank you! Happy to hear that the rod [Implanon] is working out for you. I'm going to make a video about the nutritional side of the menstrual cycle. And because you are on a hormone based birth control I encourage you to look into putting plenty of healthy foods into your body as well as looking at supplements since your body can't absorb nutrients as well on hormonal birth control. [this will all be in that video :) ] And for making sure you stay "sane" I encourage you to journal if you don't already. Then take time every month or few months to go back and read what you wrote. Looking back on my old journal entries when I was on the pill I can see that I wasn't doing good mentally or emotionally. Stay tuned love :)

    • @eirarnneberg3272
      @eirarnneberg3272 8 лет назад

      +FemmeHead Thank you soo much for answer. I'm for sure going to start writing again, I know that's been good for me in the past especially looking back at. I'm already a vegan so hopefully that does not mess with my absorption of nutrients. Yeah I'm still on my period so if this continues I'm probably going to rip out the rod myself. Anyways thank you so much for advice xx

    Hello there. Well, for some months now I've been thinking about getting off the birth control pill but for some reason I never quit, as if I'm scared because, er...it's been working pretty well as a contraceptive method but I want to know how I feel without it. I talked with a nurse at the health centre and she advised to try a different pill, which is not combined, it's still has a low hormonal dosage but this one is different from the one I'm taking now because I don't stop taking it, meaning I won't get my period. This is really confusing to me. Plus, there's also the vaginal ring. So basically I don't know what decision to make -.-

    Hey, Im Lauren and im 20 years old I was on nexplanon for the last 2 1/2 years. I recently switch to the IUD because nexplanon was causing tremendously bad mood swings. Now that Ive been on the IUD i developed a cyst on myright ovary that ruptured a couples days ago it caused me to have been in alot of pain. The thing about birth control is I hate having something in me that can do things to my body like that without my control. Plus our bodies naturally are supposed to have periods, ovulate, carry children. All the things birth control are blocking. My question to you is should i just completely stop birth control?

    I been on Portia the pill for about 10 months now and it was great to me at first with the predictable cycles and light periods. I was put on it due to heavy bleeding after going off the depo injection after 5 years which made me bleed for 8 months!! which was also really great to me, besides the weight gain that occurred over 2 years , but I started getting severe migraines 6 months into the Portia pill and I been taking pain killers (ibuprofen) because my nurse keeps telling me they will subside soon so I’m trying to tough it out, but I can’t keep doing this it’s very scary plus I have never been prone to headaches or migraines so I’m hoping it stops once I stop the pills .I been on birth control since a junior in high school I’m ready to get off and be responsible and use condoms because this isn’t worth it

      +ItsKelsiesLife I know women who have taken 8 - 12 months to get their periods again, and even longer for them to become regular. You have to give your body time to get rid of all those fake hormones and rebalance itself again. Have you started charting your cycle? You should look into "Taking Charge of Your Fertility".

    I came off the pill some time ago and I started about a year ago having brown spotting which gradually over the year incresed in how many days I had this for each month. In January I was having brown spotting for 2 weeks of thr month and my period for one week but my period in january went super heavy (i was filling a largr lunette in 40 minutes). I went to the doctors and tjey tested for all sorts of things and decided it was a hormone inbalance and told me that I needed to go on thr pill. I started taking it again thinking I had no choice but it makes me feel depressed and I am still having thr 2 weeks brown spotting but ligher "periods". I have fone research and see that thr pill is not my only option and want to try and resolve this naturally. Do you have any recommendations on what I can do and take to help sort out my hormone inbalance? I took the last pill of the packet yesterday and dont intent to start the next pack. Thanks in advance

      A few books, "WomanCode" and "The Period Repair Manual". There are natural solutions out there. Start with your diet, and look into supplements and lifestyle changes. I had a lot of brown spotting in my luteal phase during the first few months of this year, and I've mostly cleared that up using diet and the supplement Vitex. Keep doing your research!

    I came off the pill around 3 months ago (in a serious relationship😩) after being on it from the age of around 12 for acne, and 6 years later my acne is coming back, is this from my hormones being out of whack from the pill or the underlying problems. How do I cure my acne 😭

    • @FemmeHead

      +Emily Pitta Quick answer is: the pill didn't cure your acne, it was merely a bandaid. So naturally, when you ripped off the bandaid the wound was still there. I'm thinking about getting off birth control, but I'm afraid that my skin will be as bad as it was before I was on it. I do not have any idea what my body will be like. I have been on birth control for almost 10 years! So maybe my skin won't be as awful ? 😔 i myself am angry and moody for no reason on birth control so I'm hoping I will be more content emotionally. My period was awful prior as well, but it didn't totally improve or regulate on birth control anyway. My biggest fear is my skin and my weight as well as a hormonal swing lol I hope I will be happy and not a blemished emotional wreck. Lol 😝

    I tried FAM last year for about 6 months then decided the pill was the best option for my life (then). Now I'm ready to leave the pill again for my reasons. My question is how do you deal with a GYN that doesn't really respect your FAM choice? I feel like my doctor didn't understand it or care to, so she just ignored it.

    • @FemmeHead
      @FemmeHead  7 лет назад

      That's a shame. I think a lot of doctors don't understand FAM because they were never properly taught about it. If you're able to find another doctor that is more in line with what you want you could do that, or maybe your current doctor just needs the encouragement to go educate themselves on the topic.

So I try to eat as many fruits and veggies as possible. However, this didn't help completely. I just went to the dermatologist last week and was put on some ointment, face wash and a pill for the acne. (This wasn't ideal...I was hoping I could do something more "natural" to help make the acne go away.) Guess what the dermatologist recommended for me to try? :) She wanted me to go on THE PILL, haha! From my perspective, I don’t think birth control is a good idea, mainly because of women’s propensity to choose incompatible partners on birth control. That by far is the scariest side effect in my opinion. And honestly, it makes me question all of my relationships. That finding alone explains the high divorce rate (mainly initiated by women) and I think that’s enough for me to try not to date anyone on birth control. I don’t mean to sound hateful or anything, but I don’t want to date someone who might not be compatible to me. I think that’s incredibly sad and controlling your reproductive cycle doesn’t really seem to matter if you’re with the wrong person... but that’s just me. I’m scared to date because of how stacked the odds are against me (and men in general)
