Highlights from the 2024 Prize Event

Frank Biermann, a Professor of Sustainability Governance at Utrecht University in the Netherlands, received the 2024 Volvo Environment Prize prize at the award event in Stockholm on Oct. 15, 2024. The Swedish Minister for Climate and Environment, Romina Pourmokhtari, handed it to him.
Frank Biermann is the first political scientist to receive the award. At the prize ceremony, Jury member Johan Rockström underscored the need for political solutions to the pressing challenges facing the Earth today.
The 2024 award ceremony coincided with the 35th Anniversary of the Volvo Environment Prize. The event featured a cavalcade of world events and previous laureates in retrospect since the first award in 1990, as well as musical entertainment.
