Welcome to the Polyphia hole my friend. All 4 of them are straight up legends at their instruments. GOAT was my first introduction to them and i fell in love immediately
Definitely listen to more from them. Their probably most popular song is G.O.A.T., another absolute bangers are for example O.D., 40oz, The Worst, Goose etc. Basically everything from them is an extremely technical yet very melodic and catchy masterpiece. They're also about to drop a new album very soon so there's a lot to be looking forward to.
One you won’t hear many request is “look but don’t touch”. Funny thing is, it’s probably one of the best to react to! The video makes the reactions so much better.
The thing is, this is their first release in like 3 years, and they were already god-tier musicians even then. They have somehow gotten like CLEARLY better over the last few years somehow. If you have never played guitar before and started playing tomorrow, practicing 2-3 hours a day every single day, I bet it would take you like 5 years before you would be able to play this song. Being able to play pinch harmonics at all is a fairly advanced guitar technique, and these guys do them at light speed in the middle of runs that are already ridiculously difficult. Hybrid picking by itself is a very advanced technique, and these guys just do it like it's nothing. I'm over here playing smoke on the water and these guys are using techniques I can't even pronounce, let alone play.
@@PalmelaHanderson pinch harmonics are a picking hand technique, natural harmonics are a fretting hand technique. Pinch harmonics are way harder than natural harmonics, especially to get them clean and consistent. Pinch harmonics only really sound like they should when there is enough distortion. They are the squeals you hear in metal and so on. Natural harmonics are done by just touching (not fretting) a string on the 4th 5th 7th 12th and higher frets. Pinch harmonics are done by picking in a way which makes your thumb slightly touch the string. Hope you know the difference now.
Check out GOAT, Goose,OD, and 40 oz, and their entire New Levels, New Devils album. The song Playing God was inspired by the fans covering GOAT on acoustic. Tim Hensen (the guy with the neck tat) was so inspired by them he decided to make a song with the guitarists Tim and Scott Lepage playing on nylon strings called Playing God. Their songs in general are inspired by a variety of genres GOAT in particular was inspired by a Jaden Smith song. Probably the most technical and as you said talented musicians out their right now. It’s not just Tim (he is the most active on social media) but Scott Lepage, Clay Aeschlimann on drums, and Cloy Gober on bass are all technical monsters and true masters at their craft. Enjoy
They’re playing the vocals on the guitar. For instance the beginning guitar solo when the beat drops in God ,is not a guitar solo! It’s simulating a🔥azz rapper coming out hard AF and dropping the first verse, slaying everyone! Their music is based on musicians writing ,composing and mixing all genres of music. Creating all the bass parts, vocal structures, guitar harmony’s ,hip hop rap and R&B vocals ,then playing them all at once, together on just a guitar done by one person ,or in this case ,individually buy each of the two guitar players. Polyphia simply mixes all genres of music ,their rock and rap harmonies and their vocal lyrics ,then all written, composed and played on a single guitar ,wether they’re live or in studio! It’s one man doing what a 5 piece band can barely all do together and it’s Ultra impressive to say least. Unequivocally this is next level complicated music with more emotion and structure than some give them credit for! The bottom line is It’s not just music but artistic writing and musical brilliance at some of it’s absolute finest and most genius! As a professional studio musician ,Drummer and lead guitarist I can say I both hear and feel the absolute magnificence of Polyphia! -Crisis
Yeah if you're just doing a reaction then G.O.A.T is the go to, another fun one to react to is Look But Don't Touch. Other songs that I have on repeat are Goose, The Worst, Loud, Yas, 40oz, O.D., Crosty and So Strange. That's a lot but they're just that good.
So if you would like to hear where this all started and where there influence for this came from (IMHO), check out Paco De Lucia and Al Di Meola, 'Mediterranean Sundance". You can hear the grandfather to this new song.
I think of it this way ... While most artists write a song specifically with someone in mind using words to communicate their story, I feel like Polyphia are writing music that transcends barriers. Language, race, and culture are irrelevant to the humanity of the emotional response. This music allows each individual who hears it, the freedom to evoke a story that is uniquely personal, and yet undeniably universal. THAT IS POWERFUL STUFF !!! Potentially 'godlike'. This is the exact kind of thing we need to raise the consciousness of all humanity. Just thinking on paper here ... 💖💖💖 ... LOL ... The true test of what makes a song great, is the length of time it lives in your head after it's over ... WELL ... this song has taken up permanent residency. EVEN my regular earworms are feeling crowded out ... LOL ... Check out Tim Henson's "UNPLUGGED VERSION" ... the 'Playing God' play-through is even more impressive without all the flashy, cinematic distractions. That's what I think. Also Check out their song called G.O.A.T. from their last album. Welcome to the Polyphia Rabbit hole !!! Everything they do is different and ridiculously good. There's too many songs to mention. Happy Hunting.
If I am not mistaken I believe this genre is called Math Rock. You should check out G.O.A.T , really good song, also the acoustic versions they have on their channel of Playing God is insane as well if you want to see unedited play they have a few from different members playing their parts.
nope. What Tim writes is sortof hiphop synth pop etc and transposes it to guitar . He explains it better. Theyre all absolutely BRILLIANT musicians. He's a genius
Please check out their song "Nasty". G.O.A.T IS a great song, but it's like telling someone to listen to "Freak on a Leash" if they never heard Korn, or "Enter Sandman" if they never heard Metalica. So please go off the grain and check it out. Most of the people requesting G.O.A.T and OD, I suspect are the same kind of people that would yell out 'Play Free Bird!" at every live show they've ever been to, and at least once a week visit a guitar shop,. Specifically so they can play "Stairway to Heaven" loud and incorrectly.
Great content! G.O.A.T. Is the first song I heard of theirs and is one you have to react to! I went back and looked up all their music and they are all bangers! Very technical and just amazing to listen to.
You are so funny dude. What a legend. This song is the hardest I have ever tried to learn but thanks to Music Jesus we have songs and bands like this one to keep us motivated to become better and better.
highly recommend going to the start. the song Transcend. and try work ya way up. my top picks though. Transcend. Aviator. champagne. 40oz. James Franco. GOAT. Goose. Lit. Look but don't touch. YAS. thats just to name a few.
Love your reactions man. Genuine and hilarious. You're right on the money about these guys being legends, and what's more, they're this good, if not BETTER live. If you can even believe that. I had no idea who they were and watched them open for BTBAM a few years ago and was absolutely FLOORED. Here's a few more tunes of there's worth checking out. Neurotica is genius. Also.. like you said.. fucking everything

"What genre do you call this...everything?"
"What genre do you even call this?! Everything?!" - Perfect response. xD
I FEEL LIKE JESUS WROTE THIS!
I am from Detroit and I’ve seen Polyphia twice and they are amazing
Broo..... now that was somethin else!
You should watch Tim Henson do this song unplugged. It's wild.
Wait until you hear them playing the unplugged verisons, of the song, its mind blowing, (Tim Henson - Guitar, Scottie - Guitar and Clay - Drums).
Polyphia G.O.A.T, 40 Oz, Yas, Nightmare, O.D theres so many to check out from them, highly recommended
One you won’t hear many request is “look but don’t touch”. Funny thing is, it’s probably one of the best to react to! The video makes the reactions so much better.

they are not pinch harmonics, they are natural harmonics.

More than 5 years bro.
@@robj144 probably not, assuming the person practices correctly and everyday. I'd even bet someone could play it at 4 years with some nuances.
tim hensons reaction video to polyphia fan covers is pretty good. there are some incredible musicians in the world
I'm heading over to.the States to see four shows on their upcoming tour! Cannot wait.
you gotta hear tim hensons blood moon video! time henson was the middle guy in the video. some of the best guitar i’ve ever heard.

holy crap!!!! flamnco taste with alternate picking, but watch him drop the base line while running his riff is beyond sic!!!!!
Love the reactions keep up the good work...40oz by polyphia..
“Polyphia”, comes from the word, “Polyphony”, meaning:” Music whose texture is defined by the interweaving melodic lines...

Welcome to progressive math rock with flamenco, and jazz, and bosanova all mixed in for fun with a hip hop inspired beat
My faves in no particular order
Playing God
G.O.A.T.
Od
Goose
3:01 there's this madman called Danny yau who covered the whole song in one day and he played a part of it with a Ukulele too.
Danny is insane. Part of this song was leaked a couple years back but the fact that he did that is nuts
You need to check out Polyphia - Nasty feat Jason Richardson (old Born of Osiris guitarist)
Damn. The lead looks like the ADJUDICATOR from John Wick
Progressive flamenco
G.O.A.T is probably by far their most popular when it comes to reaction channels, but my personal favourite of theirs is O.D.
