  • Devices to control lightenings for cinematography are expensive, also in stop motion. I decided to hack a light, attaching a motor to it and then controling it's dimmer throught arduino and arc motion control in Dragonframe software.
    Hope you enjoy it.
Always wanted to know how to use motion control to earn time in stop motion animation, making the computer control the boring movements in the background or for secondary elements.
This is how I benefit of Arduino an Dragonframe to focus my attention in the puppets performance.

    at 1:11...
using the existing gear arrangement on the motor mount to work in conjunction with the knurling on the knob was brilliant!
    work smarter, not harder. 😁

Great solution and I enjoy seeing how you recycle old materials into new useful things. I also like how you film these "how to" videos with the creative camera angles, etc... fun to watch!

+jims408 ohhh, thanks, I really appreciate you like the work behind the vídeos.

I really liked this solution, it's a good use of surplus materials. Personally though, I would have hacked the remote socket, that probably uses PWM to control the brightness.

I was thinking the same. If you're willing to put that much effort into it and you already know how to program an arduino it's probably trivial to send control signals to the port on the light. And that way you don't have to worry about potentially damaging the knob if the motor doesn't do what you meant for it to.

Very smart approach - especially if you are not confident enough to open the light for PWM control / don't want to void your warranty. I hacked a cheap LED flood light with a relay and used an Arduino to make fake camera flashes.

+Alon Berman thanks, that lights are so expensive, I can even think in opening to see what's inside.
