    One hack I've found helpful when brewing lighter roasts is to turn the Dedica to steam mode, then once the steam indicator turns solid, turn the machine off. Restart the machine and preheat the machine by pressing either brew button. It will flush out steam from the grouphead for a couple of seconds before turning to a normal flow. This will help to keep temps as high as possible for extracting lighter roasts.

    Interesting video! My setup is currently the same as yours (my hand grinder is a timemore slim plus). Do you have any tips for getting a good grind when using bottomless portafilters? I seem to always have trouble when using the bottomless ones (6 & 7 clicks is too fine while 8 clicks is too coarse).

    • @ArtyHome

      Try using medium-dark or dark roasted coffee beans. Ground.

      @@ArtyHome Thanks for the tip! I tried it just now and I got a better extraction than before. Also, I found out that using the single cup instead of the double produced better results for me. Will practice some more with my settings. Thanks again for the help! :)

      @@TheImaginationWell with 6 and 7 clicks in timemore slimplus, hows is your coffee ratio? I have same setup, with 7 clicks and 18 gr coffee, it produce 47-48 gr. Waaayy over 1:2 ratio.

    • @TheImaginationWell
      @TheImaginationWell 2 года назад +1

      @@Mrdaciamonel It varies depending on how you tamp and the type of beans that you use. I'm still a beginner (started my coffee journey only last month) but so far I think you need to have that muscle memory for how you tamp versus the type of coffee bean. I usually use 7 clicks on 18gr of coffee and it produces 1:2 ratio but yeah I agree because sometimes my extraction goes way beyond that mark. I guess it really depends on the beans plus tamp force...

    Kinda confused. I got a JX Pro, I also have a dedica. I’ve tried grinding on 12, 14 and 16 but every time I turn on the machine, the water can’t get through the coffee puck. Minimal tamping pressure too. I’m just curious, what grind setting do you use?

    • @lucasl1047
      @lucasl1047 Год назад +2

      Theres no secret, just go coarser. on my J Max I can pull shots between the numbers 6 and 5 of the grind size guide it came with. Anything finer wont work. That’s for 18g, sometimes you can do finer, but with less coffee, 15g for example.

    • @loganrego7677
      @loganrego7677 Год назад +1

      Lucas is 100% correct! The grinds are too fine for the water to push through them. Grind slightly coarser, and adjust as needed. Aim for a deep consistent tamp though, you'll find the right grind size.

    • @batchelorsoup
      @batchelorsoup 2 года назад +3

      I have this machine and there are a couple mods to it to make very nice coffee. First you need to swap out the basket with a de-pressurised basket (easy to do, there are youtibe vids). If using the delonghi burr grinder, it doesn't grind beans fine enough. You can take the case off and set the burrs closer to each other to create a finer grind.(again easy to find how on RUclips). Do these 2 things and you will be pulling creamy, rich espresso shots in no time!
