Yay, my first part of the experiment is complete, and it's so nice to have new data that I can use for future shopping 🥰 Also, if you want to see how I tracked my 3-month capsule wardrobes, check out this playlist next: ruclips.net/video/0cMGYmi_dRE/видео.html ❤
I don't track my wardrobe but I roughly know what I wore often and what I didn't wear at all this summer. The main takeaway is that one doesn't need that many pieces. Although the summer was relatively hot and long in Germany, there were things I didn't reach for at all. 😊
Capsule wardrobe is so popular, but my experience is that with four seasons is better to just take away from the wardrobe the obvious winter / summer pieces. If we have a small wardrobe in general it is the best option, in my opinion.
Agreed! A spring-summer capsule would include eg. shorts, but they could be sitting in the closet for months before it would be hot enough to wear them. Same with autumn-winter; the beginning of autumn might be hot enough for shorts, but the weather could change in a matter of days. The argument could then be to just put them away, but then that speaks for the exact situation you described - to take away the obvious pieces when the weather is no longer appropriate. It's really not that complicated lol.
I can definitely see your point here, however, when I started with my capsule wardrobes I still had a bit of a shopping problem and putting things away (even if I could technically wear them) helped me to feel like I have new pieces every 3 months, thus reducing my need to shop 😊 That's the biggest reason I still love doing switchovers to this day because it reduces my need for shopping 😉
It sounds like you already have a capsule wardrobe. Some people do this automatically by nature or learned preference. Then there are the rest of us. 😁
What a great idea! I watched the whole video. I once did your complete declutter, Kim and it took a long time, but I was able to discover my style and favorite colors ( classic/preppy with neutrals, navy and some red and a nautical theme for fun). Got rid of everything else. It was wonderful. Wardrobes need constant tweaking and evaluation. Things change, I just turned 50 and it’s time to let go of more items. Tracking is such a great idea! I’m inspired now yet again! I live in Florida and my closet has to be 3/4 summer and 1/4 spring/fall almost no winter. Sadly I have an affinity for more formal wear, but I have no occasions to go to. I also find the 3 word method helpful too. Currently, mine is: comfortable, elevated and wow 😀. That’s how I want to feel when I dress. Here’s to decluttering! ❤️
Aw, nothing makes me happier than knowing I could help just a little, and hearing how well you decluttered, I'm so proud of you, well done! ❤ I also love the 3-word method, it does help a lot 😉 And yesss, tracking definitely turned out to be a game-changer as well, I had no idea I would be learning as much 🥰
I have already said this here and on other channels often. I prefer 4 seasonal capsules and do store them all in my closet all at once (2 x 0,75m IKEA Pax). This has many benefits for me. - It accomodates to different temperatures better. I don't personally want to wear the same pieces in ultra hot summer but also in fall with layering. I don't get the "versatile piece" concept. I don't like pieces that are kind of right for everything but want them to be perfectly right for the exact season/temperature/situation. We have 4 distinct seasons in Germany which imo justifies 4 different types of clothing (e. g. linen or viscose in the summer vs wool pieces in the winter). - I don't get bored that easily if I wear the same things for only around 3 months and then get to enjoy different pieces the next season. Although I do agree that spring/summer is slightly shorter (4-5 months) than autumn/winter (7-8 months) here in Germany, too. - If the weather is not that consistent I can just "borrow" from the neighbour seasons, e. g. take a light jumper from my fall capsule if its technically winter but it's a milder day.
Love the detailed comment, it's nice to hear what works for you 🥰 I personally agree we can have special pieces in different materials and shapes for each season, as long as we love them and wear them. However, in my case, my unique pieces are often too special, meaning many different factors need to coincide for me to put them on, that's why I want to avoid them in future. So for me, a versatile piece means that I can wear it a lot and often in many different ways, even if only in one season - like my denim shorts or halter black crop top 😉
Maybe instead of decluttering the least worn pieces that you still really like, you could store them separately and do a challenge next spring summer to style and wear them in real life at least twice each and if it’s still a no then you can be 100% sure. At least that’s what I would do but I’m very sentimental about clothes I like 😅🤦🏻♀️
Great idea, I love giving items a final chance so I can be 100% sure. I was also thinking that I could crop some of these items to get more wear out of them, but I will definitely wait to see how I feel about everything once I finish tracking my fall-winter capsule wardrobe as well 😉 Thanks for the suggestion! 🥰
That was really interesting and eye-opening to see🤯 Gonna do that myself at some point as you can also visually see what you wore for sure and how often! Another great video again Kim😊💕
Right? My mind is still continuously blown by how much there is to learn, even after years of analysing, kinda crazy 🤯😉 I'm glad you enjoyed it so much ❤
Fantastic video as usual, Kim. I LOVE that thin turquoise jumper. 3 tips I hope help you: be careful the new beige bottoms you plan to get don’t look like you’re not wearing anything - I am still firmly in team suspicious of beige 😂; maybe consider doing the 2 main capsule wardrobes but “packing” for 1 month (or 3) to get a more manageable/less overwhelming selection so you’re not bothered by warmer clothes at the hotter end of spring, for example; finally, consider which 6/6 or 7/5 month split you go for carefully - summer for me is mid/late-May to early/mid-October so I don’t adhere to the calendar months, and I am also open to change if April is unusually warm/September colder than usual, for example.
Thank you! 🥰 And good point, I am too very suspicious of beige, hehe, but at the same time I love it when I pick correctly, so I guess, I just have to be a bit more careful 😉 Thanks for the other tips too, I definitely am listening to the climate where I live and this 5/7 split seems to work for me where I live - I also get cold quite easily, hehe, so that's a factor too 😊
Kim your videos are really really really unmissable and I really really love your hairs so so much you are the best best youtuber ever in the world🥹🥹🩷🩷
Wait... you already declutterred those studded nude sandals once then you took them back from your mom. Was there a comfort issue? Why did you declutter them again. I think there is a lesson there.
@@lynneroute1202 I didn’t declutter them, I just didn’t include them in my data analysis because I added them so late and I didn’t have the opportunity to wear them yet 😊 I should have worded it better, but pretty much I didn’t want to skew the results, hehe 😉
@@lynneroute1202 Haha, no problem 😊 My reasoning is that is was really hot so I was wearing sandals, and then almost overnight it was raining and cold so I was in my sneakers, that's why I didn't wear them yet 😉 But that's just a guess, I will keep the black ballerinas in my fall winter capsule to see what happens and then I'll know for sure 🥰
Your refer to long sleeves tops as jumper, they really are not, just long sleeve tops 🙂 the cami and body suits don’t need to be on hanger, they can be folded easily in a drawer.
I thought everything that is knitted is a jumper, but I will look into it, thanks for the feedback 😊 I agree they don't need to be on a hanger, however I prefer to see everything as soon as I open my closet and this just works best for me 🥰
@@KimBedeneNo, sweaters - that is, jumpers - are not the same as knit tops. I'm not sure how to explain the difference beyond the thickness of the knit. For example, a cotton t-shirt is a knit top, but a thick fisherman's sweater is a jumper.

That is probably my main takeaway with any wardrobe tracking that I've done as well - we really don't need that much stuff 😉😊
I'm in Spain I'm wearing white jeans up to november
