      They have - but for me, the MIDI sync still has timing issues. If you use the CV/gate or sync it works great though - very tight.

      @StephenLearson  5 лет назад +4

      ShreadTheWeapon Yeah but you can’t run it on batteries. There’s nothing worse than ripping a keytar solo, and yanking the power supply out on your highest note.

    • @Shred_The_Weapon

      That would be a game changer, Mr. Learson.

    • @StephenLearson
      @StephenLearson  5 лет назад +1

      ShreadTheWeapon Considering the original SH-101 took batteries I’d say it’s more of a blunder 😋

    • @a_nick_t
      @a_nick_t 4 года назад +1

      Learson Peak you have to run audio anyway so I don’t get why people think this is such a big issue. Just make up a dual cable with audio/power. Won’t be the first time this has been done.

    • @marike1100
      @marike1100 4 года назад +1

      @@StephenLearson it's not a blunder when you consider the low price. Implementing battery power would have increased the price, which wouldn't be worth it considering 99% of players will never use it as a keytar. There are much lighter weight, easier to play keytars on the market for live performance.

    I've never made a direct comparison between the Roland SH 101 Grey with mod grip and Behringer MS101 BK new and boxed although they sit closely together. They're both in storage at the moment. Both totally relegated and in need of a real user. Being more interested in poly synths, they're absolutely wasted on me. The Boutique is probably ideal as it's so compact and ready when needed.

  • @kinderobi

    Hi Learson, how do you think the MS101 and the Model D relate to each other. I am having quite a dilemma on which one to go for...

    • @StephenLearson
      @StephenLearson  4 года назад

      Darío Peris hmmm.. they very different synths. The D has 3 oscillators and the MS has 1, which gives the D a big advantage.
      The MS has a sequencer, FM modulation, and a keyboard, which gives it a more modern sound.
      If you’re just getting into synths the D is pretty dope for the price. 3 detuned oscillators makes for some gnarly bass and leads.

    • @kinderobi
      @kinderobi 4 года назад

      @Learson PeakHi thank you so much for your answer! yeah I know they are like apple and pears somehow, I just wanted to ask you on the more "personal" level how do they feel different to you, not really looking for the technical answer but more for the more creative/vibe answer.
      I have a Novation Peak which I totally love and does the perfect job as a polyphonic synth for me (I am really into ambient, IDM kind of sounds). Now I am looking for something to add fat and deep bass-lines as well as more monophonic lead type sounds and melodic artifacts (really enjoy the Boards of Canada type of slightly detuned/unstable sounds) so I don´t really need to get into the computer to compose. I have to try them both, but I am looking for something that enables me to play and to make variety of monophonic sound being fun to play and having a good fat bass presence. The MS 1 looks more like an instrument to me rather than a module like the Model D does, also I am looking for something that sound more "vintage" old as the peak already sound so "modern" to have abit of contrast, anyway such a long comment, hope you can tell me something about your experience with the two :)

    • @StephenLearson
      @StephenLearson  4 года назад +1

      Darío Peris the MS-1 has been very inspiring. There is something about the layout that makes it very fluid. AND THE FILTER! Whoooo, so unique and buttery. On most synths if you pull the resonance all the way up you’ll get ear piercing screeches but the MS got it just right.
      I’ve been using the MS every day. It’s probably because it’s the “new” synth in my life, but it really is doin it for me. I have a Sub 37, MG-1, and the Boog, so the Moog Sound is everywhere in my studio. The MS-1 sounds like itself- no other.
      Pretty cheap synths. My advice- get them both!

    If this wasn't that stupid red colour I'd probably get it. The red makes it look cheap and just makes me not like it. That's stupid I know but the look of things matters too. Like imagine if this was a nice matte black, or a just plain metal like the Korg Monologue. Or even just matte grey like the original SH-01

    I have a question bro. I'm not a keyboard player but I have a sub37, a grandmother, and an Odyssey. Is there any advantage to me getting this?. It's only 1 oscillator if I'm correct. So does this mean I basically could get my other synths to sound like this by only using 1 oscillator from those keyboards?

    • @StephenLearson
      @StephenLearson  5 лет назад +2

      MP MI Duuuuuuude this synth fan-freakin-tastic. It is so much fun. I also have an Odyssey and a Sub 37 and I can already tell the MS-1 will be one of my most used synths.
