Long Easy Runs: Hoka Clifton 1- These things are without a doubt my favorite shoe. They're light, pillowy, and keep the legs feeling fresh for the rest of the week.
Short Easy/ Tempo: Saucony Freedom ISO- These are my workhorse shoes that can do it all. Fast enough, soft enough, bouncy enough and DURABLE. The midsole lasts forever so I comfortably put 400+ miles in them and they still feel great!
Hard Tempo/ Intervals: New Balance Zante v4- They are stiff at first, but once you get going fast in them, I don't think any other shoe I've tried can compare. At faster effort, they feel bouncy and snappy, and they make a perfect workout shoe.

    Goooood Mooorrrrrning Seth and all!!!
QOD... I have Clifton 5 in my rotation right now... my Bondi 5s are about done... so I train in them and I race in them... and that’s it... a guy does what he can afford.... cheers!

Currently running in one and a half year old adidas ultraboosts and three year old nike free 4.0 flyknits. I recently got back into running, hence the older shoes. Just got a new pair of the nike zoom fly flyknits and will be getting the adidas adios 4 soon. Those two shoes and the nike frees (they're old but I haven't really used them much) will be my current rotation. Retiring the ultraboosts for casual wear only. I mostly use the nike frees for treadmill runs because they have little to no cushioning and support.

    Easy : saucony triumph 5
Tempo/long run: nike pegasus 35 turbo
    Stride: asics ds-trainer
In videos like these I love it when you say that one of the beauty’s of the sport is that is no equipment, just a pair of shoes and go outside. So maybe mention that and maybe even make a video with a name like “if I only could afford one pair...”
    Keep it up :)

    Distance: Altra Torin Knit 3.5
    Track/Tempo: Merrell Trail Glove 4
    Race: Altra Escalante Racer
I just switched to Altra racer after loving the Torin and feeling the Merrell getting slightly narrow/restrictive. I'd been running lesser 15 ish mile weeks soley in Merrells for years.

Short road runs : Nike Epic React Flyknit or Adidas ultra boost or Brooks ghost 10
Speed work : New Balance 1400v6
Medium runs Nike pegasus 35 or 33
Long runs New Balance 1400v waiting on Hoka one one Rincon to come out in July
Marathon or 1/2 getting the Hoka one one carbon x
For trails I use Hoka speedgoat 2 , Hoka Torrent, Topo Terraventure 2 , Salomon speedcross 5 , Salomon sence ride . It just kind what ever I'm feeling that day and what kind of running I'm doing.

    QD:
Easy days: I'm always wearing those allrounders for easy days that aren't new anymore. When a shoe pair has for example 300+ miles I notice that it's not as fast as it was in the beginning. Then I start to wear it for easy and recovery runs. At the moment I have Skechers GOrun Ride 7, Nike Pegasus 35 and Nike Zoom Elite 9 for that
Lactate or tempo: on treadmill, any shoe that is fast, on the track the shoe needs to hug the feet also really well because of the curves. Hoka Mach 2 is the newest one for this category that I have. Need to get other pairs soon.
Middle-distance and long runs: The new Hoka Clifton 6 just arrived. Need to get new pairs for faster long runs
Uphill running: we don't have mountains here but I run hills on asphalt. My favorite is the Adidas Boston Boost. It has an amazing ground feel and very good traction
Strides: I run strides on track (10x100m) 2-4 times a month in the middle of a 10K run. I could wear any faster shoe for that purpose but my favorite pair is a 6 years old adidas Adios 2. It doesn't have a lot of cushioning because it's from pre-Boost era and has more than 300mls already but somehow I like it a lot. Especially when it's a little bit softer track. For hard surface the situation would be different but I like to run strides on bouncier track.

Awesome videos these last few days Seth.
QOD: Long, I go Bondi 6 and reissued Bondi B. Easy, I like the NB Beacons too, and for the same reasons Seth mentioned.
Tempo, Fartlek, Intervals, I’m really into my Clifton 1 reissues...I missed out first time around and I’m lovin’ it Jerry!
Race day, well, It used to be NB 890s with a 1080 insole switched in or NB Vazee Prism. Man, they are so pink but I love them. I’m changing it up now though and just ordered a pair of Hoka Carbon X. I’ll at least look fast. Butter my bread, butter my bread.

My all around shoe has been the Adidas Adios 3 for quite a while which I’ve used from 5k up to half marathon without issue, although my fastest 5k has been in an Adidas Sub2 (I’m a bit of a plodder so couldn’t wear them long distance). Have entered my first marathon this coming Autumn (think I’ll be looking at around 4h30) and am currently trying some Pegasus Turbos as my shoe for that.

Dang. Nothing against you, Seth. I love your channel a lot. But whatever happened to the days when we just threw on a pair of running shoes and got the job done? I'll never forget the days of my parents only being able to afford one pair of shoes every XC and Track season (And I'm super grateful for that because it could've been worse). In college, we were fortunate to not have to pay, but we still only had a one pair of trainers and one pair of race spikes at a time. Its crazy to think how much has advanced in this sport and its incredibly mind blowing how easy it is as a consumer/fan of the sport to trick ourselves into thinking we need all this stuff. I am guilty of this myself and thinking about it now has me thinking to myself like...WTF man?! Sorry for the rant...but your video got me thinking haha.

Honestly, I've been using my New Balance Beacon's for everything. Ran a 20 miler a couple of months back in them, whilst I agree they don't lock down like a racing shoe, they're extremely lightweight AND cushioned which over a long distance is a perfect combination for me.
For trail - Hoka Torrent, fairly lightweight all rounder, perhaps slightly aggressive lugs but I use them onwet muddy trails and bone dry trails and they're just so comfy.
I've put 400 miles in my Clifton 5's, and after the Beacons I just really don't like them very much. Unstable and a little clunky!

I did my tempos in the Freedom ISO and some speed in the Kinvara 10. Kinvara 10 is my 10k or less race shoe at the moment. Guess I’ve inadvertently become a Saucony loyalist.

Do you have any suggestions for an all around shoe that would work for a wide foot for both HIIT workouts and light jogging? I am a mild pronator open to neutral shoes but having a hard time finding the right pair that would mesh well for both those types of activities. So confused!

Back in high school, I ran with brooks(sorry i dont remember the exact shoe), and it felt really good for me. I havent been out of high school for too long (4 years) and i am starting to do more running again. I have watched a lot of videos from various creators but none of them have suggested brooks as a good running shoe. Is there a reason why that is the way it is? Are brooks shoes just not as good as these other shoes?

What do you recommend for a well rounded show for us that can't afford a lot of shoes ?

skechers gorun ride 7. keep the insoles for easy days, remove the insoles and tighten the laces for faster days.
the nike pegasus is also a good versatile shoe, if you like higher drop shoes. it's heavier than the skechers ride 7 though.

Other than the Vomero, what other shoes are good for "heavy" (over 200 lbs) runners?

    • @pitchmeupscotty
      @pitchmeupscotty 5 лет назад +1

Asics Nimbus or Mizuno Ultima (not the most like shoes in general, but bullet-proof protection)

    • @Joeysub4
      @Joeysub4 3 года назад +1

typically a higher stack height or a very durable shoe as shoes will wear down more easily for heavier runners

i would check out Strava's. thats what I've been using for my 10k this Saturday. Has runs similar to what Seth suggests. You could also checkout Nike's running club training plans which I would recommend!
