Well Chara isn’t a bad character but they punish you after you murdered their whole family friends but no one could take the blame but instead put all the blame on Chara saying that they had forced frisk to kill even though it was the players fault the player pressed the fight button they hit them Chara instead it the punisher for your bad deeds and punishes you by scaring you and showing that you cant just get away with things that hurt others and not only that but Chara is like 10 or 11 and seeing someone kill everyone you love while you helplessly watch really does mess you up (Sorry if I had taken this comment to seriously I just wanna clarify that Chara isn’t the bad guy)

Well, in the ending, correct me if I'm wrong, but you never actually see the other characters die. It's only implied. What if your punishment for doing the genocide run is that Chara gets your soul and gets to enjoy your happy ending, while only letting you see enough to feel guilty about what you did in the other timeline and feel trapped? The picture being a creepy reminder of why you can't have your body back and of the moment your soul was sold rather than a representation of them being dead. It would be a weird sort of punishment, but it might explain why if you do the genocide run enough, Chara talks about a different path. Because they actually do want to see the others again, and not just for the sake of killing them.

In case you didn’t know. There are 2 different endings from doing this. You beat genocide, then do pacifist route. If you select to stay with the monsters, this ending appears. If you select you have places to go, a framed picture of every monster you befriended has an X on their, face, other than chara.
This is my headcannon for soulless pacifist ending. it’s still a good ending but not for You, nobody dies either. It’s just Chara reminding you of what you’ve done while not actually hurting anyone at all.
