I’d just like to say, Doc Hudson did the jump over the fence thing first…
The Doc one happened in 1953 or 1954 while that happened to 2004
Fly high Doc 🕊
Doc flipped over, McQueen used the wall, Herbie used the catch fence and flip over
Logan Seavy did it in real life
@@chrismurphyracing94 Video?
That was the last foreign car manufacturer to have entered in NASCAR till Toyota came in 2007 am I correct?
The last manufacturer period. Foreign or domestic.
Toyota made their Truck Series debut in 2004.
@@ChrisMolyneaux93 he meant the Cup series not Trucks.
Actually a Jaguar was entered in the 50s
@@south_carolina_man really?
Wow I did not know that
3 great finishes in NASCAR history:
Maggie Payton / Herbie barrel rolling off the catchfence
Ricky Bobby beating Jamie Mac in a drag race while in reverse, flipping him off in the process
Clint Bowyer crossing the line while upside down and on fire
That last one will always be a classic and most badass way to finish a race
Personally I think Stroker Ace's win was better, but everyone is entitled to there opinion.
Can't forget Petty vs Pearson in the 1976 Daytona 500.
2006 Dinoco 400- “Am I a joke to you?”
that's what McQueen did on a race he finished in backwards
Imagine being Ray Payton, Jr struggling for Payton Racing, and your sister WINS in her first race in a Beetle.
Therefore, NASCAR Busts: Ray Payton, Jr
This is a Hall Of Fame level of bust.
Ray Peyton Jr would be one hell of a team manager, or spotter tbh
Not even counting the fact that he turned star it into the wall for no readon
He never wanted to be a NASCAR driver
@@redluca56 really? I forgot
Can we appreciate the fact that Jeff Gordon and trip Murphy managed to cross the line either drifting sideways or on their roof
yes
Mhm: the latter kinda foreshadows Clint Bowyer coming across the line on _his_ roof some years later in the 2007 Daytona 500 (if Murphy actually finished: seems like his car came to a stop before crossing the line though, so that would be a DNF).
ok but can we all agree Trip Murphy's Cheetos car was a badass paint scheme
It's not easy being cheesy.
Has anyone been sponsored by Cheetos in NASCAR irl? Just asking
The font looks like one of the custom fonts you could use for your car in nascar thunder
the most iconic paint scheme, second only to the Wonder bread car of Ricky Bobby
It deadass was 🤣🤣
5:56 Murphy was racing a non manufacturered stock Car. One second later he was racing a Monte Carlo. Man this whole race was controversial.
Not to mention that his car switched aero packages
Holy crap, this movie is all over the place!
Dale Jarrett was also driving a Ford Taurus that looked oddly like, a Chevy.
@@AmericanRacer07 According to some photos of it it's actually a 2000-2003 Ford Taurus that's modified to look more like a 2004-2005 one: 2000-2003 Ford Taurus NASCARs have oval grilles, 2004-2005 Tauruses have more squarish grilles (though this is also the case with other cars seen in the film: for instance Kasey Kahne's #9 being a 2001-2002 Dodge Intrepid with 2004 "Intrepid" (they look more like Stratuses & were not called "Intrepids" during the 2004 season) stickers).
Herbie might be the most well-rounded race car of all time. Winner of numerous local races, a prestigious race at Riverside, the Monterey Grand Prix, the 2 day El Dorado Road Race, the Trans-France Race (basically Ralleye Monte-Carlo) in which he makes his final overtake on the roof of the Monaco tunnel, a junk car race, a NASCAR Cup race and a bull fight. Graham Hill has nothing on Herbie.
Herbie > Jim Clark
The true racing veteran
The original Herbie was built by Max Balchowsky who built the legendary race car Old Yeller II, he's also the guy who prepped the 2 Mustangs and 3 Chargers used in the movie Bullitt.
Check out the documentary on him and his race car Old Yeller II from Speedvision here on RUclips called The Max Balchowsky Story, it's truly inspirational.
Only thing left for him is the Indy 500. Hell, if a snail can make it in, so can Herbie.
@@teddyobrien4801 Apparently his intake was too small to qualify.
It's great to have Jimmie and Jeff in the same movie getting along with it, one of my all time favourites.
Trip Murphy's Cheetos scheme should be on Darlington Throwback
Agreed on that one, man
Same
Fun fact: During this scene, Herbie was meant to play “Eye Of The Tiger” on his radio to get Maggie pumped up, but it was cut for an unspecified reason.
Thank you for this fact
Maybe it had to do with copyright issues?
Honestly i'm glad they didn't play it
What scene?
@@EarlyMemory The NASCAR scene towards the end.
Brian France must have been absolutely on one to let a VW Bug race
I don't know why, but Allen's call of "Herbie's on the fence!" always get a laugh out of me. 😂
Ikr. First nascar driver to ride the fence and win. 😅😅😅
@@runrafarunthebestintheworld The move that was later copied by Cruz Ramirez 12 years later
It’s a crime he wasn’t in ANY of the Cars movies
🤣🤣🤣
@@RazorSharp75426 Technically no considering all Cruz did was use the wall to flip over her opponent & win: Herbie on the other hand actually climbed onto the catch fence & rode it all the way down to the start/finish line, & only _then_ did he leap off it & win: _much_ more spectacular if you ask me.
holy shit, the story of a fictional volkswagen bug was way more emotional to me than i had initially anticipated.
theres no way she had a legal restrictor plate, & the fact that there wasnt 1 black flag given is seriously concerning. this pay to win stuff is what ruined nascar.
Piston Cups Busts: Johnny Blamer, is known as "Magnet face", because he never finished any of his races he started.

Idk why but hearing Allen Bestwick saying "Herbie's on the fence!" Will never stop being funny to me
I completely missed that Dale Jarrett apparently drove a Chevy Monte Carlo disguised with Ford Taurus badging.
Nice to hear Alan Bestwick and Benny Parsons commentate that race
Was thinking the exact same thing 😢
I'm going to tell my kids that Herbie the car was the GOAT in Nascar history, F1, and beat Toyota in the 24 hours of Le Mans.
Jeff: "The car just winked at me"
Jimmie: "Are you feeling ok? Is the pressure getting to you or anything?" 😂
Thank you Darian for unlocking a childhood core memory!
"Mickey Mouse Win" sounds so much like actual terminology that it should probably be actual terminology.
Double joke because it's a Disney movie
Since the 2020 NBA bubble in Disney World, where the Lakers won, it became a term in ALL of sports, meaning a win that is undeserved, whether that be due to cheating, or injuries keeping out star players, or just a lack of competition. So technically, on the internet at least, it is actual terminology. In actual sports news, not so much.
A bit of a question with Trip and Maggie here. They’re in open face helmets for this race. Weren’t those helmets outlawed at this point in time or no?
It’s an acting thing. Almost every racing movie deliberately makes this mistake so that you can see the actors faces
it’s a fucking movie with a VW Beetle in a NASCAR race, and your asking about helmet rules lmao, you think they care ? they aren’t gonna cover two main actors faces anyway.
It’s really not that hard to think.
I know, I know. It’s a movie and they can get away with bending the rules but come on, let me go along with the parody.
@@mikefobfan101 Talladega Nights actually used modern helmets with clear face shield
Sounds like a helmet violation to me. The outcome of this race was just too wild for officiating to notice something as small as the helmets
Never thought I'd see the day when video about Herbie was made
I gotta rewatch this movie, cause I barely remembered any of that 😂
“HERBIE, HERBIE’S ON THE FENCE. HERBIE’S ON THE FENCE”
Truly one of the great calls in NASCAR history.
Same energy as "Turbo just went UNDER a car!"
Indeed: one I'll never forget, that's for sure!
They really just gonna do Dale Jarrett dirty like that and put him in last...
If it was MWR Jarrett, then it would make a lot more sense.
I presumed all of VW's bosses at Wolfsburg were in absolute disbelief when they heard that a car they had just pulled the plug on had won a NASCAR race.
If a snail can win the Indy 500, a beetle winning in NASCAR shouldn't be much of a surprise.
Jeff Gordon receives an extra win after Herbie doesn't pass the post race inspection.
4:33 i Wasn't expecting a voice crack from the Jeff Gordon
Can we talk about Jeff Gordon's save that last lap? he was SIDEWAYS after the contact with the upside-down Trip Murphy, but somehow caught it and finished second to Herbie. Underrated performance from a weird race.
Herbie's very first win was with Jim Douglas over at the old Riverside International Raceway and they had a lot of success
It’s such a sad story. Growing up, I remember watching Maggie Peyton driving Herbie at Auto Club, making her name. I would always say to my parents that I wanted to be like Maggie Peyton when I grow up. Still one of my all time favourites.
Good thing you didn't say you wanted to be Lindsey Lohan 🤣🤣
Herbie created fence riding hall of fame worthy if you ask me
NASCAR Busts: Ray Parker Jr.
I so loved this video I hear tony Stewart still has nightmares of this to this day thanks for covering this odd race =) It is about time a video was made on this NASCAR history
After this race, passing on the catch fence was deemed illegal. That’s why you don’t see anyone doing it. Except for that one time Austin Dillon tried it. That ended bad
Jeff Gordon the real winner in my book 🥱🥱🥱
Hey: at least he came in second, second's never a bad place to finish in!
Now pls make a video about Lightning McQueen's dynasty on the Piston Cup, or Turbo's win at the Indy 500, truly one of the motorsport moments of all time
I have seen this movie Herbie several times!
03:56 fun fact: That scene was deleted, was from the entire short track Nascar Race scene and pit crew at California Speedway (now Auto Club Speedway).
(RIP Benny Parsons)
Can I say Jeff Gordon should've really won this race, went from spinning out in the last moments before the finish line, to composing himself and WILLING that car back to 180mph to finish second within like, 300 feet of the finish? Dude brought back the 90's Wonderboy in one move.
BFM: Thanks for watching!
Herbie: **gets brutally massacred**
This is probably your greatest video. Absolute masterpiece. 😂 my only critique is that you didn’t read Maggie Peyton’s career statistics, even if she only made one start 🌝
Darian out here on that good kush
Thank you Darian for this quality video (as always)
Defo a mickey mouse win
Herbie the #53 beetle became a cup series stock car achieved by Team Peyton in the Auto club speedway a spectacular debut.🌈🌟💖👍
Why isn’t there a diecast of that car?
And they Called me madman when I said that LoveBug would win a Cup Race 😂.
That moment when Lindsay Lohan has more wins than Danica 😂😂
Championship Seasons Ricky Bobby 2001 (Parody)
Ah yes the best one hit wonder Herbie made one start and never again
Herbie can say he got banned from nascar for being too fast 💀💀💀💀 it’s more of a flex than a punishment
Herbie Fully Loaded is my first impression to the Herbie franchise as a kid, it made a great impression
Thank god someone else finally acknowledged this movie. I’ve talked to so many people who had no clue what I was talking about. I started to think it was just from a dream i had when I had a concussion.
i think there was another problem which gets overlooked.
you have drivers in arca, trucks, busch, busting their asses trying to get a ride in cup, showing/wanting to show what they can do in a competitive car. and then you have this woman, who didn't even began close to racing until weeks before this race, and then gets a ride in the cup series!
maggie got a ride in cup just because she was the brother of ray jr., who was there just because he was a payton. if that's not the biggest example of nepotism, then i don't know what it's.
sorry for the rant, i had to take this off my chest.
I saw this movie in theaters for exactly one reason: because I was at the Fontana race they filmed at XD
LoL 😅😅😅
Do you get featured in the movie tho?🗿
Can't wait to see Brock Beard's Under the Sheet Metal with the #53 Beetle aka "Love Bug"
NASCAR’s most Controversial Race: 2005 Dinoco 400
Ricky Bobby's debut is also a controversial one. We never knew for certain if he got a proper license to actually race or not, given his experience.
Most underrated NASCAR film in history in my opinion (& least remembered for that matter): you always see people talking about Talladega Nights or Days Of Thunder, which are all well & good, but let's not forget good old number 53 either shall we?
I like the fact that you described it as if it was an actual race, which I guess it technically _was._ Nice video!
No joke: if I was the head of NASCAR & one of the teams brought a race-ready Herbie for approval, I'd approve him for competition, no questions asked (which for all we know might have been what NASCAR did here: just said "Screw it, let's approve him, what's the worst that could happen?").
The smug look on his “face” says everything
Ty Gibbs has certainly learned a thing or two from watching Herbie. I love shitpost videos like these man. Keep em comin.
I forgot that this movie existed💀
I didn't. I watched this movie in Spanish and I don't know why some of these English networks aren't showing this movie more often.
We need a NASCAR sanctioned series where everyone drives beetles
What a fantastic job BFM, had me laughing the entire way , passing OVER tony stewart had me going lol
The random New Beetle is actually Sally's car, a friend of the Peyton family who works in NASCAR.
It's also Herbie's girlfriend.
...despite Herbie already gaining a girlfriend some years & movies prior in the form of Giselle, a 1976 Lancia Scorpion (who's a much better fit for Herbie for several reasons if you ask me).
NASCAR shitposting season has started early this year 🤣🤣😂
I wouldn't say the most controversial debut necessary because I never see the controversy downside of it. I only see the good side of this debut itself.
I hear if you tried to talk to trip about this race. He just breaks down crying. In all seriousness Herbie Fully Loaded is one of my childhood movies. It's pretty silly but a good movie so I would definitely encourage people to check it out!!
Can we just appreciate the fact that the producers of this movie ACTUALLY MADE a VW Beetle into a NASCAR spec cup car (they kinda had to since they were filming the movie during the Pop Secret 300 of that year. If you find a clip of the race you'll actually see a pit box sign of a white circle with 53 on it)
How I know this? The NASCAR Herbie went to Barrett Jackson a few years ago
4:56
by this logic herbie could be as fast as a Redbull X2010
According to the Mike Davis in the Dale Jr Download, Dale Jarrett's part was supposed to be done by Dale Jr. Jr agreed to do it, but on the day of the shoot refused to do it because he didn't want to be beaten by a Volkswagen.
I wonder if the story is 100% true
I don't know but his car _can_ be seen a few times during the race, most noticeably on the final lap just behind Herbie & Trip.
Such a shame when Maggie got into the drugs
Imagine if Ricky Bobby and Jean Girard had been there, it would be crazy. 😁
i know this is a parody video but DAMN herbie is really forgotten and underated
Darn right: all you ever see people talking about are Talladega Nights & Days Of Thunder: what about the other two NASCAR masterpieces created around the same time frames as those two, Steel Chariots & Herbie: Fully Loaded? (well, _sorta_ masterpieces anyway) And if you're talking about Herbie in general, yeah: he really _is_ forgotten nowdays, which is _really_ sad.
Herbie can compete in just about anything and end up winning.
I loved this movie so much as a kid. I honestly think it was one of the precursors to me becoming a NASCAR fan a few years after it came out.
At least Herbie was a car with a driver. IndyCar let that that snail Theo (AKA "Turbo") race without a vehicle. I'm pretty sure it was way out of bounds to allow that, even if legendary five time Indy 500 champ Guy Gagné said it was OK.
Well, that was nothing compared to D1GP drift series letting an introverted GT Sport player to compete as a drifter.......
(AliveHoon reference)
Don't mention that race around me, bro. Why the fuck didn't they throw the yellow after Gagne flipped? Complete bullshit.
Trip Murphy was also institutionalized in 2004 for insisting Herbie was a sentient being.
How about doing a video on the Rise and Fall of Tim Daland Racing?
I was at this movie premiere in Hollywood. I was representing the team and sponsors we had at that time. A lot of big names went in and then walked right back out after it started. I enjoyed the experience and all those I met. However, the movie was hard to watch.
The biggest mistake by nascar ever
More like probably the biggest *non*-mistake they've ever made! (especially given how much the sport's gone downhill since then)
I like this video, except the Peyton’s would have pointed out the loophole they found to let herbie race, then nascar would let him continue, and he would continue racing
Seeing Trip on his hood reminded me of the Chicken Pit car scandal of '83. Rough times.
The scene where herbie is driving backwards reminded me of F&F. Then i realized this movie is where they got the idea for that scene!
That win has me thinking of the saying between larry mcreynolds and dw or whoever and dw
Have you ever?
No I've never!
Won't pass inspections in most series due to steer by wire, active chassis management and fully active suspension.
this is the literal first ever youtube video i just paused, watched the movie, and then commented something off topic
why is the yellow "random beetle on parking lot" alive too
Jeff Gordon: I swear the car wink at me jimmy Johnson: calm down Jeff
Why does the guy driving the Cheetos #82 car remind me of the way chick Hicks acts like in the first Pixar cars movie? (takes me back.)
Sadly we never got diecast of the Ray Peyton Jr. and Trip Murphy cars
6:27 Hehe, just like J.P's Trans AM in the Redline anime movie when he drives on the wall to then use a golden nitro to spinn over the water. He did a boost fire like in the F-zero anime: BOOSTAFIREE!!! Looks like a Bayblade when they spinn.
I feel like the movement of J.P.'s car must have been inspired bye the Herbie movie and probably The speed Racer cartoon.
Who’d win in a race, Herbie the Lovebug or the T-Rex car?
The lines from Jeff & Johnson are pretty good in this movie " the car just winked at me"
idk why but the Tri Murphy's cheetos car looks like something that came straight from the NASCAR 2005 CFTC custom car garage
let's be honest, we all want to see Herby vs the Mach 5
Suggestion:
