    Found this:
    Kevin Kilner puts to rest the long-standing rumors that he was fired from the program. Although he would have liked to have been in season two, he chose to leave because he felt he was being treated in an unprofessional manner--three weeks before the second season was due to begin shooting Kilner and the rest of the cast had still not been offered a contract by the producers--and also because he had misgivings about lack-of-quality in the second season because the writers appeared to be bowing to pressure from the financiers to add more sex and violence and seemed to have no clear idea in mind for the direction of the second season of the program in general and Kilner's character in particular. Kilner, who remained in touch with his former co-stars throughout season two, reports that the cast felt "miserable" due to this directionless approach.

    When they killed Boone, they killed the show. It immediately started flailing and while there were some good moments here and there, it lost the intrigue that made the show enjoyable. That said, when season five hit, the whole thing became basically unwatchable. But you know, you really have to feel bad for the psychic lady that gave her powers to Boone and then died because she saw it as the way it had to be, predicting that those powers were the way for humanity to win...only for them to kill off Boone right afterward and never do anything with it again. Maybe those powers of hers weren't so great after all.

This with a psychic lady I don't remember but there were a few more errors after this: That Liam lost his alien powers too, Augurs betrayal , Lily after having an alien hybrid baby never get heard again. But even without this the other main weakness was the hard focus on earth.
      Actually they planned a new show after this but never got up basically with Liam and Renee as power couple in space

Kind of sad I've never seen anything else Richard Chevolleau ever did, although that probably has a lot to do with his credits being mostly Canadian productions. I always felt that season two had tremendous potential. Like if they focused on the dynamic of Liam struggling between his humanity and connection to the Talons and Daan’s inner battle to choose between his dying species and humanity rather than just jumping forward seemingly randomly that it would’ve been a lot more appeal. Like my favorite episode is Attivis And I think that single episode channels do true feeling of what this series should’ve been about going forward.

      disconnecting Da an , who reverts back to an Atavus ( who BTW doesn't look like the 5th seas creatures with their long energy "fingernails" & who are hardly asexual, indeed , quite the reverse ! ) Excellent episode where both LM & LK refuse to give up on Da an....show clearly started going downhill from mid 2nd seas.They seemed to at least have a decent series ender in S4

What had me seething was that they never let Sandoval know that Liam was the son he was looking for. The core characters were whittled down to nothing leaving nobody that I cared about by the last season. Favorite characters, Boone, Liam, Lili, Auger, Sandoval, and Da'an. I wanted Liam's powers to be reactivated and for him and Sandoval to have some sort of relationship, but sadly we the audience didn't get that. The only constant of Earth Final Conflict is: "The Sandoval Saga", as he was the only character consistently appearing throughout the entire show. Sandoval's run was one of his greatest moments. But yeah, Boone and Sandoval carried the show on their shoulders. And now after watching the whole show (watched 1st season back in 2000 and now I've finished the entire Earth Final Conflict in one swoop, ending on 10.July.2022.) all I can say is, this series could have done better in the end. It deserved better, but when you have problems with higher ups, making decisions about main characters coming and going from the show, it's amazing how the TV series even made it to Season 5 to begin with. All in all, EFC is still worth watching despite, despite its terminal cracks that appear throughout the show later on. Kind regards.

    I kept trying to categorize Liam as handsome or not. A silly point perhaps, but I've never seen an actor who in 1 scene looks very handsome and then in the next scene is making goofy faces and looks like a dork. I thought the acting by Laim and Augur was not consistent. At times it really felt like they were just reading lines instead of acting. Boone left because they wouldn't pay him what he was worth. The management was cut throat in trying to put on a show with the very least money, resulting in a lot of actors becoming fed up and leaving. The entire show is an example of a great idea being manifested by stupid people. The company that produced the show is now gone so all their penny pinching meant nothing for their longevity.

    I think the main issue with E:FC and other shows produced by Tribune, was that they were made by Tribune. A common thing that was said in message boards of the time was that Tribune made cheap shows that looked decent (hence why they were all Canadian) and then sold them for overseas broadcast. The U.S. syndication market was pretty secondary to them. So, why was this an issue? Because in their thinking, smart shows don't translate well. E:FC was proof of that way of thinking. Andromeda was another. So, after brilliant first seasons, dumbing down was the order of the day.

    Good Review. Really love EFC despite its flaws. Season 3-5 were released in the US on DVD in widescreen by ADV films. They were nice sets and pretty expensive for a long time until the Canadian sets flooded the market in 2011 I think. I remember paying $200 for Season 4! Season 2 was not released in the US at all. I believe EFC was the first show to use Sony HD cameras starting in Season 3. Would love to see a HD remaster of this show but.. probably not gonna happen. I like it much better than Andromeda frankly. There are actually a few good episodes in the 5th season. I liked the courtroom episode.

    I never really liked this show when I was a kid. However, I did watch it, albeit for the most part it was playing in the background while I was doing something else. I did take more of an interest in the storyline when Renee Palmer took the lead. I hear that some true fans of the show didn't like the Era of Renee, but I thought the Atavus storyline was interesting, probably because I didn't have anything invested in the previous seasons.

      John Rhys-Davies left the show because he found the Holly Wood plots to be too fantastical and lacked depth. I really feel like they could have done a better job with Sliders. Like show a universe being invaded by technologically advanced humans to steal resources from other parallel worlds. Hell they could have created so many cool universes like a world where the Book of Revelations was never added to the Bible and how Christianity changed. Could be a world where Christianity never existed and humanity went down a different technological and spiritual development. Maybe Amazon Productions could reboot the show and explore these themes seamlessly weaving in people of color and increasing diversity based on the episodes with different societies inhabiting North America.

    I really liked that Sandoval in season 1 wasn't bad, exactly. He was just an "ends justify the means" type of guy but either genuinely believed what he was doing, or didn't have any choice.
    Boone's death was due to contractual dispute with Kevin Killner. Zo'or was digitally inserted when relations broke down. Initially, the idea was that he'd recover but would have been more insightful.
    I think that the Jaridians were layered in from the beginning (e.g. the language was similar, but different), but they rushed it in season 2 because they were required to make it more action oriented.
    The core energy crisis was good, but was clearly inserted to add momentum to a somewhat flagging season 3.
    I liked that Da'an covered up for Zo'or murdering T'than, and that he gave him additional core energy because he couldn't bear to see Zo'or die.
    Season 5 with "oh yeah, everyone's dead" was solely for the purpose of getting the series long enough that it could be sold for syndication.
    Your pronunciation of Kimera and Atavus was interesting.

    Gene knew that there are two things to a great show, writing and the actors, and he was amazing at both. Using his name past season one was ridiculous and Magel, as much as she contractually could def showed her displeasure. She would have said much more if able.

    • @victorhng
      @victorhng 6 месяцев назад

      @@justinhague105 That sounds like it would've been a pretty cool idea. Another interesting idea that just came to me is at the end of Season 1, instead of killing off Boone, the Taelons could've turned him against the resistance. Some kinda intense brainwash. Sandoval becomes a double agent for the resistance in the long run, and his character arc would eventually evolve into a much more likeable character with issues still. Liam would still be born, but instead of aging into an adult super fast, he gradually ages through out the series and play a key role in defeating the taelons and having his own agenda of bringing back the Kimera species.

    • @CurlyFromTheSwirly
      @CurlyFromTheSwirly 3 месяца назад

      I thought the CVI was useful for controlling the Skrill but not necessarry...as both Boone & Liam didn't having a CVI. To which not having the CVI allowed they to retain free will and be double agents.
      Either the Taelons were mistaken about the CVI being needed, or more likely totally lied to get the mind control into their agents like Sandoval.

    You know you got a huge problem with your story/production when the most consistent character in the cast is the main villain. The revolving door cast and how they handled it was I think this Show's biggest problem. Babylon 5 is the best example of how to do an important cast member who exits the story early. In its first season the captain of the station was Sinclair. But by the second season the captain had changed to Sheridan. The reason being the original actor got sick. The show had written exits in its show Bible for all the major characters. So if one character had to be replaced or exit the show for some reason they had multiple Avenues and story branches to where they were able to exit that character out and then return the story back to its focused line with or without them. That's what you really need to do in order to plan for a series. Just make sure everybody can be accommodated if they leave the show for any reason.

    I've been semi-binge-watching Earth final Conflict and I'm up to season 4. Well it has some flaws, definitely. It's not a bad series. If you get past season 2, you're kind of hooked into it. The problem is that after season 2 the suits took over and Roddenberry's original ideas were flushed down the drain in order to make it more sponsor friendly. In other words, generic and profitable. More fight scenes, and less cerebral dialogue. Still in all it's a good watch. If you're looking for Emmy Award level you're in the wrong place.
