You're bloody lucky mate! For a few seconds there i didn't think we were getting a "Hi, I'm Marlow..." 😂
What a lovely relaxing video
I've heard so many names for these now I only half remember what we called them when we went picking for them in north east Wales when I was younger. Windberry, whimberry, winberry... pronounced roughly "wimbree/winbree" in any case.
Nice adventure! Plenty of them in Scotland. I picked some great amount yesterday! Love those berries with cottage cheese!
Or as a hot jam for pancakes.
one of lifes special things is a wimberry pie and custard, put them in water to seperate the twigs and leaves more easily
Best fruit tart ever!
I remember picking them in North Wales with my younger brother, mum and dad - it seemed to take forever to cover the base of your container but seemed to speed up after.
If it got boring, I’d flick a few into the back of my brother’s wellies resulting in purple socks and a telling off from mum.
My husband is NOT going to be impressed when I nick his Afro combs this weekend 😂
The traditional method for bulk separation is to roll the lot down a slope: the berries will arc off the end into bowl while the leaves and twigs fall straight down =:D
Charming video. That's what foraging's about. Never seen a comb used for berries; interesting...
Blimey, its that time again! - must get out this weekend and get some. Lovely video, thanks. Bilberries are known as 'Wimberries' in our neck of the woods (hills)
Nice seperation technique.
Thanks for the info, Marlow, I liked the comb idea too, very nifty :) .
And my vote's for Tarte aux Myrtilles!
Ah i forgot it's billberry time. I better get out.
blueberries improve eyesight. and they are tasty raw and on baked sweet rolls🫐❤️
Could someone please post the coordinates to this location
Are billberries the same as
blueberries?? I assumed they were in the same family but they look exactly the same to me
According to Wikipedia it is two names for the same berry.
Americans use term blueberry for American blueberry, and bilberry is used for European blueberry. European is much more tastier and healthier. American is larger in size.
No!!! not here in UK anyway. Bilberries are much smaller, they grow wild on the moors, they have a stronger taste than blueberries, and they are native ie wild. blueberries are from N America even though they are cultivated here. Bilberries have lots of regional names eg. whortleberry, but never blueberry.
bilberry = Vaccinium myrtillus
blueberry = several species including Vaccinium myrtillus, I believe most often it refers to V. corymbosum
Bilberries are wild, and not to be confused with the invasive American species, blueberries, which are not indigenous to the UK.
you only get the benefits if they are not sprayed
Marlow we need a collab with Tim Spector!!!!
Would love to if you could get him in touch :) I think he’s a busy man though..
