Guys, back in the 80s the whole cast of The Dukes of Hazzard came to Hazard. Including my favorite Daisy! Eat. crowd 100,000 people!
Wow! That’s awesome!! Bet it was a sight to see - Melody
@@realappalachia It was something. The rest of the area must have been deserted. Anyway it was a lot of fun for a 19 yo boy!
They really didn't, but I'm I'm from KY so we'll just go with that! 😉😆🤪
"The show is about two young male cousins, Bo and Luke Duke, who live in rural Georgia, Hazzard County, GA and are on probation for moonshine-running."
Yes They Did my papaw is from Hazzard I'm from Lee County Virginia but live in Johnson City Tennessee
I lived on Baker Street in the mid sixties. Love Hazard my adopted Kentucky home.
I really enjoy looking at the old time pictures in your video . The main reason I am writhing to you is I have been driving for over 60years and this is the first time that I have seen a road sign showing there is 3 side roads coming up thanks Robert of dagsboro Delaware
That’s impressive, thanks for the comment
Hello, my grandma’s maiden name was Combs. I wonder if she was related to the Combs in the video? She was from Beaver, Kentucky. We lost her in 1994. I do also recall her speaking of Hazard.
My Grandmother was a Combs and also from the area. WOW !
Now that is cool
Wow! My mother was born in Perry County, in Combs, Ky.
Thanks for this one, now you're in an area I know well. My folks are from Big Creek and my uncle died in the Hyden mine disaster in 1970. And from Hyden "It's a long way to Harlan, it's a long way to Hazard, just to get a little brew. . . ." (Nine Pound Hammer by Merle Travis.)
Oh man, do I ever love some Merle Travis - "You take a K and a E, a N and a T..."
at 14:32 that was part of the footbridge across the river....I do remember being with my Mother while she shopped at the Mother Goose. There was some heavy Confederate sentiment there, the 10th Kentucky Mounted Rifles CSA was raised from Perry County and nearby men...love your channel!
I live just 20 minutes away from here!!!! Hazard is full of wonderful people and it’s just a beautiful area in general!! Hope you all had a wonderful visit!!!❤️❤️
Thank you! We sure did! - Melody
Hey, guys beware, While you were filming that building with the goose on it someone was watching you out the window on the second floor. Another cool video and some certain lady soda had the giggles again, lol. But that's good for her. Let her giggle all she wants. Btw, I liked your hat. You look very sweet in it, lol. Stay well & safe guys.
Yes, you could see the curtains move on that second floor window.
Thank you!! Haha I am giggly for sure. I think it runs in my family. - Melody
I saw the curtain move
@@realappalachia Bring giggly is a cute sweet thing on you. You are one cute sweet lady. Wish I lived near you, lol
I live within a stone's throw of Perrysburg, Ohio. Yes. Same Oliver Hazard Perry.
There's a wonderful monument to Commander Perry and that famous 1813 Battle of Lake Erie on an island in Lake Erie. You can take an elevator to the top of the structure and look out over the lake for miles! (Nice ferry rides to get to/from the mainland as well.)
Oliver was only 26 years old when he led his troops to victory. He was a brilliant guy and a charismatic leader as well. If he had messed up his job on managing that naval battle back in the day, I would be eating crumpets and drinking tea in 2022 instead of enjoying Tim Horton's Coffee and donuts! (Well, now that I think of it, I guess I could be drinking Tim Horton's no matter who won, since they're a Canadian company...)
Anyhoo, thanks again for another lovely video; I'll be holding onto my hat for the next one.
thanks for filling in the blanks on Commodore Perry, that was cool to read. Now get back to eating those crumpets lol
@@realappalachia Haha! I'm so glad Ollie Perry won because I've tried crumpets and the right NOT to eat them was worth fighting for! 😀
At 18:37 Melody noticed it looked like an old building that had been updated. It was once a hospital
They really didn't, but I'm I'm from KY so we'll just go with that! 😉😆🤪
"The show is about two young male cousins, Bo and Luke Duke, who live in rural Georgia, Hazzard County, GA and are on probation for moonshine-running."
Ya missed out big time not going up to Buckhorn. Still, thx for the tour! 💜
Hey y'all wow. I live in the next town from Hazard. Hope you enjoyed your trip. I grew up on Jewell Ridge small world
man, it really is a small world
I'm a Virginia Combs. I'll have to visit!
This is a quaint little town. It is nice to know that they have revitalized the downtown.
Thanks! I hope this helps y’all with your next coffee run! Safe travels! 🙏🏻❤️
bless you! We appreciate you so much!
@@realappalachia You’re welcome! I just wish it could be more. God Bless you.
Oh so this is where they made the show " Dukes of Hazard". Daisy Dukes
a lot of people look down on our little small town. I had a boss in Winchester that when he found out where I was from he said I am surprised you wear shoes and alot of other comments but to me it has always been home.
Some people have terrible attitudes. They have no idea how good the people are from these areas.
Enjoyed this & all of your videos! Very informantive & funny! And Melody
I sure hope Melody listens to you, Julie lol. Thank you!
Love this ! I’d also like to see you do a visit Hyden a city over from hazard and feature Mary Breckinridge midwives.. some of the last midwives to ride horses delivered me ! Also named me …
thats a great story. Hyden is on our hit list. I have a very good friend who wrote a book about Mary Breckinridge so it is special to us
@@realappalachia my grandparents would invite the nurse / students to come watch tv and have dinner on Sunday’s .. my aunt would drive them places many didn’t have transportation… I love to watch the videos about them .. I’m hoping to go visit the wendover house .. and a few other places there , if my health will allow it . Or maybe I could just enjoy your visit
❤ Breathitt County raised me
My home town

Shane..... 9:27 and 9:47 nice stop.
holy smokes, that was so bad that I didn't even notice it when I was editing - someone needs to take my license
Hey guys! Thanks so much for coming to Eastern Kentucky! I did a video about Hazard a few months ago. You can see it here ruclips.net/video/LPDbya7c2Lc/видео.html
Thanks for sharing, Gwen! Great job!! - Melody
9:26 ya broke the law. Go pay your ticket.
Do you know how Perry County Central High School got the name for their mascot? It’s pretty cool.
had no idea until i saw your comment and went on the search, that was really cool
@@realappalachia my high school history teacher made that connection for us. We played against Perry Central in football so we all knew about the name of the county and city as it’s less than an hour away. We hadn’t however heard about Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry until then.
Want to see more of ky
My uncle lived in Hazard With his family. They’ve all passed away and I was happy to find your story about Hazard. Thank you.
Love your guys videos! You guys need to get that wheel bearing looked at. I've heard it in the last few videos. I live in Wise VA and would love to get a signed book where could I get one
i am hoping to unload the car soon but will get it checked out when I get a chance. I have a few copies of my book at my home that I sell directly - you can shoot me an email to realappalachia1@gmail.com and I can give you options for buying one and I can mail it to you
The building with the duck on it is probably listed on the Roadside Architecture website, though I don't know that for sure. That town is bigger and more spread out than I expected.
The turtle sculpture at 14:22 looked like a snapper to me. At 14:57 when Melody walked into the camera view and Shane said "and here comes Melody", I was expecting him to say "here comes the beautiful Melody", but he didn't. That wasn't nice of him 😁 Nice truss bridge there. I'm always happy to see Melody's smile. Just sayin'.
Nice to see that town looking and doing so well. Down in Salem County, NJ which is mostly farms, the county seat is Salem City, which is in decline because the glass plant closed. There are a lot of open pit sand mines all over the southern counties of NJ, but for some reason some of the glass plants either have closed or the companies moved the factories elsewhere.
I was following John Shneider on RUclips for a while, but lost track of him. Well maybe it was Facebook. Anyway, he mentioned a Hazzard-fest somewhere, and it sounded like a lot of fun. I always lived the show. So that Hazard,, KY looks like a real nice place. I enjoyed this video.
I can’t be too nice to Melody because I’m afraid she’ll get the big head and her hat won’t fit anymore lol. Sad to see places like glass plants close, it seems inevitable these days when it was unthinkable back in the day. Thanks for the comment
duke of hazard
Great show you two. Hey, Oliver Perry's victory was only about an hour and a half from me in Ohio. Yep, the battle took place in the Buckeye State. I highly recommend everyone to visit South Bass island and visit the Oliver Hazzard Victory Peace Monument at Put-In-Bay. You can see right where the battle took place here in Ohio. Great museum there as well. I will tell you to do not go there on the weekends. as it is a a crazy party place then. O-H. Love you both.
I-O
Thank you so much!! Next time we get a chance to head that way we’d love to check it out!! - Melody
Ooops! I didn't discover your comment until I had posted mine, Tall Dude. (Really didn't mean to do a semi-cut and paste! LOL!) I am totally with you on recommending a week day visit to the monument and museum, especially if you have kids. On weekends the atmosphere is not what a lot of people would regard as family friendly. Sad... because it wasn't always that way. I'm not sure when it became "the thing" to go to the islands and get wasted. And I have to admit I don't quite see the point. Most of those folks could drink themselves unconscious right at home in the comfort of their own basements for a lot less money, no?! 😀
Enjoyed this ! Great to see the downtown area looking so good ! The dukes of hazzard was set in fictional hazzard county Georgia. Only part of the first season was filmed in Georgia, in Conyers and Covington. Then they moved production to California and filmed in the thousands oaks area. Yeah ,the hells angels , outlaws, etc . Call themselves a motorcycle club. On their patch they have letters MC, for motorcycle club.. appreciate you guys always ...stay safe...God bless....🙏❤
Thanks a ton for the info, Ben, we always appreciate your comments
Ok... I gotta call you out. I'm a full patch member of Backwudz vipers.... We are a CLUB.... not a gang.
Another cool-happening video. I really dig when i see a new one posted. This thing y'all do is awesome and informative. 👍
Thanks so much, Bobby! - Melody
repent TODAY, forsake your sinful way of life, and believe in the Gospel.
salvation is found only in the LORD JESUS CHRIST alone, Who took upon the sin of the world on that cross, bearing the pain and punishment we deserve(d), that our sins may be atoned for, and He is risen [in glory] for our justification, that we may be made right with GOD, that we may know Him, be adopted by Him and reconciled to Him -- forgiven, set free from the curse of sin and death, and made as new creatures in CHRIST alone.
The connection between Dukes of Hazzard and Hazard Ky is the creator of the show was from Lennoxburg Ky. He grew up around moonshiner and wrote/directed the Movie Moonrunners. When asked to create a show based off Moonrunners he created Dukes of Hazzard. He got the fictional town name from a gym bag of someone who was from Hazard Ky. He added the second z and boom you got Hazzard County. The Dukes cast came to Hazard Ky in 1981 for the Black Gold festival. A est of 100,000 people showed up. They got the keys to Hazard and were made Ky Col. James Best ( Sheriff Rosco)met his brother he hadn't seen since he was adopted. Been to Hazard a few time. A truly lovely place with great people.
"PEOPLES Bank" is a name sake......NOT general population...
My hometown, I was born in Hazard, and I am a Combs. Gen. Lige Combs AND his brother Nicholas "Danger" Nick are my direct great grandfathers. Just across the road from the Goose House was a restaurant/nightclub called the Colonial Club. My teenage sisters worked there in the 1940s. They were underage but since the guy who ran the place was a cousin, no one seemed to notice. My Uncle Justus Begley was Sheriff of Perry County in the early 1930s, and another uncle, Crit Begley was on the Hazard Police force. A great video guys!
Marilyn
Hey Melody and Shane! This one was wonderful! It brought back a lot of memories. Many years ago my friend and I drove down thru Va, WVa, NC, TN and on to Ky! We took the longest, most round about way, stopped to visit friends and family then drove on to Harlan, Hazard then on to Benham, with lots of stops in between. It was a great adventure. My husbands surname was Benham and the town supposedly was named after kin-but who knows? The odd thing is, we were planning to reprise our trip…43 years on.
Shane; I’ve got one for you. When Melody mentioned the Broken Spoke Lounge, it made me think of a terrific band from Austin, TX called…the Broken Spokes! You seem to love classic country (me too) and these guys (and gal) fit that to a T. Their music is reminiscent of Bob Wills, “The King of Western Swing” 🙂. 😊You can find them here on RUclips. I hope you like them as much as I do! 😁
oh, Mia, thanks for the tip - I will head to check out their music as soon as i get home. love hearing about good music.
@@realappalachia I do too. In Charlottesville there was live music almost every night. I saw so many shows, met and got to sing with some of them too.😉🤓
Hey Guys, Sometimes when you are videoing the places you visit. I see buildings and homes with for sale signs on them. You should try listing some of these places on your videos. That may improve your viewers in large numbers. Just a suggestion. Stay well & safe.
thanks for the tip, something to consider
Wonder if that's where the dukes of Hazzard was filmed... maybe not
no, I don't think any was ever filmed there but some of the cast came to a festival one year way back when the series was on the air
I hear hazard and think Dukes of Hazzard!😁. That is a very pretty little town. Melody gives a good history lesson everytime.
Thank you so much! I always think of the Duke boys too! Haha It is such a nice little town! We enjoyed our visit. - Melody
That was filmed in Georgia but several of the cast used to visit during the Black Gold Festival each year in Hazard. Sheriff Rosco P. Coaltrain (James Best) did have a brother that lived there though.
@@cherylharper5835 I knew it was filmed in Georgia but didn't know the other stuff!
The pic of Scuddy coal camp brought back some great memories. My Mammaw and Papaw lived in Scuddy holler. I also remember how much I loved eating at the diner next to the Mother Goose house as a young child.
So glad I've came across these videos. Really enjoyed them. Have y'all have any on Lynch Ky?
Have visited there and enjoyed the history museum and Portal 31 underground mine.
I was born, raised, and still live here in hazard ky. I also come from the combs family. This is not a tourist mecca lol
Loved this video. One of my friends who still teaches at Western Kentucky University was born and raised in Hazard. Her mother still lives in the area. I have been to Hazard once or twice, but never saw the "Pre-Goose" house. How unique!! Does someone currently reside in the home? Thank you for such an unique video. Great as usual. By the way Melody, I loved your hat.
it appears that someone does live there, we saw a dog poke its head out the door too. Thanks for watching, we always enjoy reading your comments
It must be some chore putting shingles on the goose head. I wonder what the beak is made of? 🙂
I'm trying to clear this up.Are y'all a couple or just friends? Asking for a friend!
I'm from Somerset KY, we all used to go to the Hillbilly Palace in Hazard They had a great live band and good cocktails lol
Born in Hazard in 1960. First home was in Pigeonroost.
Very cool town, thank you Melody and Shane. Maybe sometime you guys can show a quilt shop, please.
We’ll keep that in mind, Robin! Thank you! - Melody
Some of the prominent family names that settled that area. Combs, Patrick, Ritchie, and Fugate
In the late 70s there was a great diner on main st(hwy15). We would eat there every time we were in town.
I am a Ritchie from this area. My husbands family are combs n Fugate small world
@@TRich-di4se I married a Ritchie that was from a Ritchie and Patrick marriage. over by ball creek and big branch

I am from Harlan County Kentucky
@@virginiathompson7978 Harlan county is nice. Hope to make a trip up there again
that part of Eastern Kentucky is great to visit and a lot of history
I’ve been to Hazard many times. My employer at the time drilled several oil and gas wells in the area. I ate one of the best steaks of my life at Cliff Hagens Steak House.
man, I could go for a good steak right about now...
@@realappalachia I’ve been in the Broken Spoke too. It was a knife and gun club. They checked you at the door and if you didn’t have a knife or gun, they gave you one!😂. That parking garage is unique. I believe Hazard is the smallest town in America to have a parking garage. The old MacDonalds was two stories which was the only one of its kind in America.
My father is from hazard still have family there. His mother's name is Emma Combs
My family knew the family that built the goose house.. I have been inside many times
We all lose our heads sometimes...the important thing is, ya put it back on!
Old high school is still there. Apartments today.
Really enjoyed this! Especially the Goose House! That is amazing they were able to replace the head when it fell off! And, as Melody said, if you lose your head just put it right back on! I was literally laughing out loud! Y'all are awesome! Hugs & blessings & safe travels from rainy, windy southwest VA...Pulaski County to be exact! 👒🌧🌬🤗🚗🛑
Hope you’re avoiding the rain out in Pulaski, we’re getting pounded down here
This is great! My two year old pointed and the goose at the beginning yelling “duck”! I haven’t spent a lot of time In Kentucky, maybe I should change that and do the bourbon trail.
PS weather looks better than South West Virginia today!
That’s a great idea! And that’s so funny about your little one cause I kept wanting to call it a duck too haha - Melody
So hazard high school the principal/mayor got in big trouble a couple months ago for touching teen boys. Big controversy. The people of hazard are protecting him as well.
I read a little bit about that, strange story
Man to be able to go back in time to the ‘30’s and ‘50’s. When times were so simple. Tough but not so much of a rat race like today. Keep rockin the hat Melody. Looking good
thanks so much, John
man~ Hoow u doing?. breathtaking sharing,talk you later- :))

Just road my motorcycle in to Hazard today from Dayton. What a cool little town! We got lost on the neighborhoods for a bit and it was a really fun little adventure. So many happy friendly kids playing in the streets and nothing but smiles and waves as we tried to navigate the narrow streets. My grandparents are from Jeremiah where will be exploring tomorrow and trying to locate our ancestoral homes and cemeteries. It's my first trip since I was a young child and it's been wonderful so far. We are eating at Circle T tomorrow morning by recommendation.
It is my understanding from friends of ours that live in Covington, GA that the Dukes of Hazard had many, many scenes that were filmed in that area. In fact, many movies have been filmed in that area.
At one time they claimed the dukes was filmed in hazard County Georgia and the cast weekend in Atlanta! They said the Georgians were very willing to let them drive through their fences yet Judy Norton says the dikes set was next to the Waltons set? Maybe they filmed both places idk
it is hard to say, I have never understood why tv series try to create confusion like that
I grew up in hazard my granny and Paw lived there. I sure do miss it, beautiful ❣️
It’s really holding up strong and we loved seeing that
Take people on the Hatfield & McCoy trail, it starts in Kimball WV
We’d like to if we could work it out

My hometown! The structure you didn’t know what it was at the north end
Of town was actually a swinging bridge which led to the L&N railroad yards. That was the only way to get to
The yards for many years. It was torn down a Few years ago. The first time you drove down Main Street, you ran a stop
Sign. You should have gone into Peoples Bank, it’s a gorgeous building. The building in Lovell St. With the porch was actually a hospital at one time, called Hurst Snyder. You made a good video, just wish it was longer.
Wow, thanks for all that great info, that really helped clear a lot of our questions up
Your programs are very enjoyable. I see commonalities in all of the cities you touring your videos. I am glad to see that Hazard, Kentucky has seen a good face-lift. I am very impressed with the downtown tall columb facades of the buildings.Thank you for your researched history lesson.
Yes Hazard was quite a pleasant highlight for us
Really enjoy your channel.
Are you related to each other?
Thanks…no
very gusey
Shout-out my hometown! Love y'all!
Thank ya so much, Joey
Once I thought the town might have been named because of the floods and it being a "hazard" to live there, but I was wrong about that! 🙂
That would actually make a lot of sense
In GA
Thanks for visiting Hazard, a place I've often thought about exploring mostly because of an online friend there, who has since passed away. I enjoyed getting a good look at the town and especially the historic photos. Another place that sounds intriguing is Viper, KY which I think is close to Hazard. Maybe you'll hit that place in your travels, sometime. Thanks.
Ohhhhhh you just had to mention Viper lol. We drove down there on this trip and almost got into a brawl crossing the mountain. The video also turned out to be not so great so it may never see the light of day lol
viper is in perry county hazard is the city ;)
