You just brought back an old memory. When I was 12, my parents moved us back to the mountains to raise us with the values with which they were raised. We had an outhouse, unfortunately. One day, my father was in there, and a rat ran up from below, between his legs. He literally tore the door off and came running out with his pants around his ankles. I still laugh at that memory to this day!
Any community that has lots of trees is worth traveling through. I grew up in Arkansas and I miss seeing the trees and the cotton fields. One thing I did enjoy seeing when I lived in Anthony Kansas was the cotton and the canola. My daughter lives in Kingsport. Beautiful place! Thank you for the country drive!
I love the idea of a true old fashioned Sunday drive. It was a part of so many peoples' childhoods. Thank you so much for taking us along. This was a beautiful trip. I know that a lot of us joke about these wonderful, almost un-touched rural areas and our worries that "the masses" are going to rush in from those "other states" and totally change the spirit of the old familiar places. But truly, there's something to bear in mind there. The Ohio country where I grew up was classic "flatlander" farm country. Men were out in the fields on tractors, and hunting and fishing were common recreations. Women raised their backyard gardens, canned their beans, corn, tomatoes, etc. and hung their clothes on the lines outdoors. Knitting and sewing were not unusual at all. Then it all became "gentrified." Farms were sold off and rows of McMansions were built -- all the houses almost identical to each other. Not that the new residents were bad people of course, but the whole culture changed in ways that are hard to define. I'm praying that Appalachia can prosper without selling out, if that makes any sense....? And I'm hoping your videos help to preserve the best of what makes the places you visit unique. Love you both for all the work you put into showing people so much that they might never have seen before!
What a wonderful, peaceful, serene drive down Rejuvenation Cove Road in Dotamen, VA. Of course, this is a fictional place. I'm doing my part to ensure that the real place doesn't become popular or overrun by the masses. As for fresh flowers on a grave, there are some cemeteries that still only allow fresh flowers to be placed on graves for dignity and/or cleanliness reasons. For example, some cemeteries only allow fresh flowers because they decompose and don't contribute to any lingering waste issues, unlike plastic flowers, etc. Cemeteries will remove fresh flowers from grave once they have wilted.
Fresh flowers are preferred at a lot of cemeteries. Plastic flowers at some cemeteries are prohibited because they can't be composted and have to be collected for trash which is an added cost.
This is an absolutely beautiful place anytime of the year. You folks visit some of the most unique places in Virginia, West Virginia, and Kentucky. Where do you find your inspiration? Everybody needs to have this great inspiration to explore the many neat places in Virginia, West Virginia, and Kentucky. I have viewed all of your videos and love them all. Please stay safe on the road.
Another excellent video I'm from the beach area but found a good country woman in N.W.-NC and loving the mountains and it's beauty, views n history now....My sister moved to Kingsport Tenn. So getting to know western Va, eastern Tenn. and NC now.... You guys ever check out any of the many Caverns along I-81 ???? Thanks for taking us along on your Sunday drive ! Such a very beautiful drive! I love that area . Beautiful in each season, but I imagine in October, it is spectacular! Thanks you 2 . Stay safe and God bless y'all always...🙏❤️
I really love following you guys on Google street view. It's like I'm riding in the back seat with you. When I visit Virginia the only thing I want to do is drive these back roads and look at the houses and imagine what life is like for the folks who live there. Thanks again for the ride.
Shane, dont feel like the Loan Ranger out their battling your BP, Smart man taking care of your self! We need you down there in Appalachia ! Hey Melody :-)
When I was growing up in West Virginia we always picked our flowers from our own yards and put them in a foil wrapped can and put them on family graves.
Easter is always after the first full moon after the Spring equinox which is why it is never on the same date. I had to google that one. Never knew why myself. I had to laugh over your wild imagination of cats verses chickens. Living out in the country I too am always seeing a deer, person or dog along the road but turns out it’s a road sign or tree limb hanging low. Thanks for the Sunday drive down a pretty road!
That makes sense! I never knew that either. Thank you!! And yes!! People crack up cause I never see what anything really is in the road lol I had to laugh at myself on this one! Lol - Melody
I know I would love to be out that way ….. I currently stay in Maryland too much going on for me ….. I am a real chill and relaxed person …. I will have to visit this area soon as I can and check things out Peace and Blessings
You guys are great I really enjoy this channel and being a subscriber every video and where you take us is so interesting and different you guys compliment each other well as a couple I get a kick out of melody's accent!
Just remember Easter always follows the first full moon on the following Sunday so if we have a full moon on Thursday and it’s already spring Easter on follow that Sunday
The Council of Nicaea in 325 decreed that Easter should be observed on the first Sunday following the first full moon after the spring equinox (March 21). Easter, therefore, can fall on any Sunday between March 22 and April 25.
People have to be rich to live like people lived back in the day, in such land. Western USA & Canada (especially along the USA-Canada border) especially. :.
A great little drive to take with one of my Mustangs…..!!! Except for that place with construction and all the mud on the road - not sure if I could bear to drive one of my “babies” through that……😱 Haven’t seen a REAL outhouse like that in a long time……🤢
Put 20 people in that log church and you'd have a full house... LOL... 30 people and you'd almost be busting out the walls. I love the small old churches I was raised in one...
As far as the churches, remember the government made them all shut down. Pastors had to leave to find work to support their families. It will take awhile before they come back
Did you guys know there’s someone ripping off your videos? Like exactly the same title and picture? Mountain Roots is what it’s called. Just think that’s super sh**ty and you guys should know
I love y’all’s videos! However, the video is not relaxing. It seems you are driving about 75 mph on these roads. It probably just seems so. Please take care❤!
Hey guys fans are curious about your relationship…friends, more than friends? Not to be nosey …just curious ❤️You two work great together;keep us laughing and letting us in on your adventures!🫶

Outhouses are still in use along the USA-Canada border and Western USA & Canada border.

Awesome ride, and I loved those 3 churches.
They’re all so photogenic and sweet. Glad you enjoyed as much as we did! - Melody
I would love to live off that road somewhere. All I have to do is win a lot of money 💰 🤑
When I was growing up in West Virginia we always picked our flowers from our own yards and put them in a foil wrapped can and put them on family graves.
It doesn’t look like the old log church in Konnarock,it’s now a community building but it is still beautiful.😊
Oh, and the church in Williamsburg, WV had an outhouse back then also. I would hold it until I got home. At least we had a two seater. Lol!
Have you ever been to Great cacapon west va.? Morgan county Paw Paw west va. has some really nice history along with the Potomac River .
Looks like my county in Va. Beautiful.

Love the country drive but man you drive fast!
Stop here Shane! Too cute.
Great video but tell Shane to slow down. You say look how cool and he blows by it. 😂 Enjoyed the drive though.
Very nice country drive. Beautiful countryside.
It must be cold there still. The trees look bare.
I know our little country church is now locked when the office isn’t open, but our pastor lives next door and loves to show people around.
It’s sad but it about has to be that way now! - Melody

I'm really enjoying this, but where are you exactly? What state, city, ???
Mendota Rd, just an unincorporated community in Washington county, Virginia.
You should have stopped by for coffee.

Easter fluctuates between March 22nd and April 25th because it’s based on the Jewish calendar and it doesn’t match up with our modern calendar.
