Enjoyed one this evening, and thought it was very well done. The berry flavor came through on this more than the banana on the Bananas Foster. Floral berries.
Reminds me of those chocolate 🍫 bars with raspberry filling in the middle . I love the chocolate after taste with the hint of berries . This is a very pleasant beer to sip on , especially on Christmas 🎄 morning 😊
Having a $9.99 bottle tonight with your review. Had a $4.99 base ‘23 and a ‘23 Bananas Foster recently. This might be most drinkable but I really love the standard BCS. This is a step or two away, but great as its own thing.
I would take the regular over this and the BF, but that is an interesting note about drinkable that I don’t think I considered. Glad to got them cheap too! Cheers!
@@NoHypeBeerReviewsI finally had my bottle. It was very interesting for sure. It tasted like a cherry coke to me. It were decent but nothing great. Cheers!!!
Just took a sample of my backyard stout, and I’m with you. It’s almost like a tart cherry and dark chocolate. It also drinks a lot lighter than 12 percent abv.
Mine poured a purple tinge of brown head … I can see the purple color in the beer … big, HUGE chocolate … I didn’t get a ton of tartness but it was there … the berry flavor lingered around on the after taste … this was delicious … cheers 🍻
I had one tonight. I liked it a lot more than the sample I tried on Prop Day. I tasted berry juice, dark chocolate, charred marshmallow, and toasted carmel. I think it balanced out as I drank it. Not too sweet and not too tart.
~~~ As someone who liked the KBS variants with cherry and blueberres, I will probably like this. Will I love it remains to be tasted. I'm a tad trepidatious about the cinnamon level in the Bananas Foster. This is the fun about the BCS release each year. Nice review. CHEERS !!! ------------ Happy Thankgiving to All !!! )))))))))))))))
I'm in complete agreement with you. I really like this beer. I think it's cool. I think it's interesting. The fruits and jamminess all come through and it reminds me of a raspberry dark chocolate bar. But, I don't know if I'm buying more than 1 to sit on; and even that is just to see what happens. I think it's great to drink right now (and I might do that), but I don't have a great feeling that I'll like it more after resting it for a year.
I’m getting reports this week from friends at BCBS tap takeovers in various places. The general consensus seems to be that the regular BCBS is the best of the bunch this year. So interesting given the additional investment needed for the variants.
Great review. I had it at FOBAB and Prop Day. I was like you, liked it. Didn’t love it. I also thought it might age well. Lots of people really didn’t like it. The two polarizing variants were Backyard and Eagle Rare with some people loving them and others hating them. Given where I think the price point will be on this, I’ll personally keep my one from the Prop Day pack for a year or so and be good with just that one.
@@NoHypeBeerReviews Almost everyone loved the Prop. It’s chocolate rice pudding with some bourbon thrown in. Personally I found it too sweet and wanted more cinnamon, but I love cinnamon. It’s very unique and worth trying just for that. At Prop day there was a 20-30 minute line for the Angels Envy, 5-10 minute line for the Prop, the rest you could just walk up to with no line and no wait so that should tell you something.
Other than the wheatwines that they have released, I would not say any of them are all that sweet. Keep in my mind that I love sweet things haha. Cheers!
Tried this last night. I was really disappointed by the Backyard Stout. It was way too tart / sour for me and that sour berry flavor for me overwhelmed the base beer instead of enhancing it. I could see where you were going in your review. This is not going to be for everyone. That said, I really enjoyed the Bananas Foster variant this year, despite the lack of (or maybe because of?) the lack of a big banana flavor. Thanks for the reviews.
Glad to hear I wasn’t the only one who struggled with this one and the tartness of it. I do think the perception of Bananas Foster is going to be heavily swayed on how much people like banana and/or cinnamon. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
When the variants came out this year I was super disappointed! Why can't the coffee and barley wine be mandatory or the wheat wine? I might pass up on the prop too
Revolting swill. Perhaps the worst BCBS variant I’ve ever had. Only one I didn’t finish. I have another bottle that will remain unopened, unless I get Covid again.
I have this opened and sitting in front of me as I type this. This reminds me of the infected barleywine that came out in 2015. Basically, this is crap. Would absolutely not purchase again. Not even worth the $25 to try it once. The aroma is horrible, and it tastes maybe twice as good as it smells. Horrible x 1/2 = still not good. DO. NOT. BUY. THIS. CRAP. (edit: If you have the misfortune of opening one of these, I would suggest opening this at room temp. It was terrible right out of the fridge, but it does get slightly better as it warms up)
Bourbon county, ky had 40 meth heads arrested last night. Anything saying bourbon county is gnarled garbage
I really liked the base beer this year. The two variants I have had left me wanting more though. Cheers!
You apparently were hit in the head many times with a Goose Island Bourbon County Bottle.......loser!
For sure. Way more flavors for sure. Good call!
nice lookin stout!
Sweet. I have a bottle in my beer aging cabinet a year old
Very cool!
Totally agree. Grab a few bottles, you won't be disappointed! 👍👍
I should grab another one to age. Cheers!
Really glad to hear you enjoyed it. I still might buy a second bottle to age for a little bit and then revisit. Cheers!
I am still going back and forth on it haha. Glad to hear your take. I might grab another bottle to age for a little bit and then revisit. Cheers!
Spot on review. I just sat my half full glass down…and the way it is almost at a rolling boil makes me think it will explode in the bottle if aged…😂
Hahaha
Have a great Thanksgiving Kyle
You too, Jesse! I hope you are well.
Like a high end cocktail stout, I taste a Manhattan kind of bold bourbon sweetness!
Thinking back on this one, I can see that. I still might grab a second bottle to age. Cheers!
This years Backyard Stout 2023 is...IMO....the best out of the lot and right up there with the Eagles Reserve.
I am glad to hear this. I am still figuring out if I liked it or not haha. I might buy another bottle and see what some age does to it. Cheers!
I can definitely see this one being divisive. What did you think of Prop this year? I am wondering how hard I should try to find a bottle of it.
@@scottwolfe9725 thanks for the feedback, that was very helpful.
I scored it a 100/100. Does that sound too high to you? Like you stated, I was unable to discern any particular berry.
I did not like it that much and am still confused by it haha.
How are the other varieties? Are they sweet at all? Well balanced?
@@NoHypeBeerReviews now what about the samuel smiths stouts? Heard they were very balanced. Kinda sweet. Chocolate. Raspberry. Oatmeal ones.
@@antoniocognato5023 those are great descriptor for that beer. Now I want one!
I think the tell on this review is when you said you couldn’t decide if you wanted to spend money on another bottle or not.
100% true. I am still deciding if I want to buy one bottle to age, more of an experiment to see what it does with some time.
Agreed. Wish they tried a banana, marshmallow combo.
Do these need to be refrigerated?
I don't think so, especially if you have a place to store them that does not get too hot.
It will never make sense to me. It seems like a no brainer.
Can you do the banana one
I actually did that one already. I liked the taste but wanted way more banana. Cheers!
Bananas foster II?
I need some color on my legs
Hahahaha
