I've always thought this film was so underrated. It has not the cult status of the most notorious films of Tsukamoto, maybe for not being surrealistic like other of his movies, but this one is probably the best written and telled as a linear story of them all. Another favorite of mine from Tsukamoto sensei is Kotoko.

Kotoko is brilliant. Not enough people talk about the really interesting autobiographical aspects of the film. At least in the west anyway.

According to Tom Mes' book, Tsukamoto himself is not satisfied with the film and sometimes thinks about re-editing it. While I would love to see the all the footage he cut out, I genuinely like the movie as it is.

I saw a particularly dark print of this at a little theater in Japan when it came out. It left a huge impression. Tsukamoto's most accessible film, I'd say. Great soundtrack as usual.

One of the first live-action Japanese DVDs I bought (the ArtsMagic edition) when I was first getting into more contemporary non-jidaigeki/chambara Japanese cinema. Tsukamoto and this film in particular will always hold a special place to me.

Used to buy Tetsuo I/II and Tokyo Fist/Bullet Ballet in the 2000's, the 4th are good movies, but Bullet Ballet always had my preference, then Tokyo Fist, as the 2 movies let more space to characters, while the 2 Tetsuo were less about a real scenario

don't bother restoring Shinya's films. They are supposed to look like this(old and worn out )

I disagree, the restoration is done by Tsukamoto anyway.

I'm really looking forward to the boxset. I'd love to review it on my RUclips channel if I can get a copy to the UK.
