The one thing I hate about fb marketplace is the location filter. The website just entirely disregards it. I set the filter to 40 miles and it shows me results from over 200 miles away, like what.
I've literally furnished my entire house through Marketplace, with the exception of a couch, a mattress, and a few area rugs. In a big city, even IKEA furniture is great to buy second-hand because its super easy to find someone selling the exact product you're looking for a fraction of the price. Over the years, I've even sold several items I bought from Marketplace (usually for the same price or higher) when my furniture needs changed. I absolutely love some of the unique vintage pieces I've managed to score over the years. It takes some patience to wade through the scammers and weirdos but 99% of my interactions with people have been just fine.
My employer’s Slack has a “trading depot” channel where we buy/sell/exchange used items amongst ourselves, and it’s basically replaced FB marketplace for me. I’m lucky enough to work at a big enough organization full of motivated people to support this kind of ecosystem.
I think you're brave 😅 I'm not sure how to exchange what I'm selling. I don't want to give out my address and if I want to meet somewhere public, people usually flake.
Dude a second hand mattress is a no thanks for me personally 😅 however if I wasn’t able to receive one from my parents I’d probably be in the same boat
I used to like FB marketplace, mainly because I could buy and sell items in person within a close distance of where I lived. But then Facebook changed it so that local options are suppressed in favor of shipped items. Now most of the items on the feed are dropshipping products or bootleg stickers.
People were seriously complaining about the videos being too pessimistic? Wow people love to be coddled. I actually love your content and enjoy the take down videos. Eat the rich!
That's actually insane how little options does US and Canada have to sell used things peer to peer. There are ebay, craigslist and fb marketplace, OfferUp + Kijiji and that's it. It worth mentioning that most of them are complete trash with ui/ux from early 2000th and lack of normal search, sorting, filters and etc. In Europe there are much better options like OLX and others Tbh, I find Amazon's user experience outdated and not predictable as well. Everything is built on search which have some complicated algorithms preventing you from seeing what you want, but rather what they want you to see.

The same applies to other stuff, like banking, internet and carrier services, etc. Look what Mint made to cellular market in US, it looks amazing

Also, Facebook groups has revitalized website forums and really has gone to a place where all these community groups either local or interest based can convene and discuss
Craiglist looks even better after watching this. My personal details arent given away and Im not bombarded with ads. It costs a few bucks to put an ad up on Craigslist but I LIKE that because it cuts down on sellers putting up thier ad 10 times per hour pushing everyone else's ad down the list.
FB really wanted me to look at Marketplace. I opened the front page and-right at the top of the push list-saw identical postings for the same phone/accessories from posters in different locations. I immediately understood that Craigslist was over. Because scams (the driver of the market) have much better advantages on FB Marketplace, and no threat of safety policies you'd become accustomed to from the old network of "just some people with email addresses."
Marketplace has made garage sales SO hard to find. I followed several of those signs and they led nowhere with no one. Maybe the garage sale had listed hours on Marketplace, maybe not. I have no idea. Some friends went on a garage sale hop, and I couldn't join because I couldn't figure out where they were; they didn't think to carpool or even share addresses in the group chat because they were "just going down the FB Marketplace listings in order."
I got my 1960 singer sewing machine on fb marketplace. I restored it myself and its become my main machine. Now, fb keeps showing me more vintage sewing machines and im fighting the urge to buy and restore another. I already have 3 sewing machines, i dont need more!!
The toilet paper definitely should hang as a beard; HOWEVER, as a parent of a toddler I have quickly learned that the mullet keeps the little one from unrolling the entire roll onto the floor 👏🏼 I’ll gladly make that sacrifice for now 😅

Whenever a colorist or artist is showing their plastic markers I cringe because I think of all of that plastic but yet I have always been intrigued by them. I figured out a way to buy them guilt free - buy used markers. I took a risk and bought a set of used Faber-Castell pitt artist pens from a private seller on Facebook Marketplace and so far they have been great. I don’t think your videos are pessimistic; definitely negative but not pessimistic. I can handle negative people but I can’t stand listening to pessimistic people because pessimistic people go out of their way to try to convince others that nothing will ever get better. Negative people such as myself complain a lot because we know that things could be better, deep down we are optimists. I really enjoy your videos and I hear a lot of hope and positivity in them. As always thanks for a great video.
Levi I don't know if you ever did this but as a kid growing up in the 90's. I loved dumpster diving and going to the dump. I can't remember how much treasures I've managed to save and reuse. It actually makes me mad now that they don't let you go through the landfill. Every time I go I see so much stuff like bikes that just need some work and they'd be back to like new. I understand the safety factor of letting people go climbing over mountains of garbage and metal but to me that's unacceptable when there's perfectly fine thing's that might need a little work but still serve their purpose.
I'd love to see a video about Pact. They sell mid range clothing made with organic cotton in a fair trade factory...but I got 3/5 things in my order damaged or just not sewn correctly. What's up with that?

Craigslist doesn't sell your info. Scammers are on both platforms, so it's a wash there. Ebay keeps track of your sales for the taxman and charges sales tax on used items. Craigslist for the win.

About the toilet paper thing, I just realized it depends on how many hands you're using to cut the paper. For hand solo, mullet is way easier but if you have your two hands available, beard is definitely better.
Fb mp is easily the best thing about fb right now. I’ve made close to 50K reselling items that people throw away it’s insane how many crt TVs I’ve sold that have been tossed amongst hundreds of other items. 🎉
Just so everyone knows, you can manually change the date your pictures have been updated on your Facebook profile. Like you could see some pic saying « 8 years ago » when in actuality it’s been 5 minutes. Beware ‘cause scammers use this.
The lack of proper category and specification standards (for a given category), a chaotic and bad UX, and the amount of scammers makes it an awful platform to sell/buy. The only positive is the reach on the FB marketplace.
I definitely enjoyed this video a lot more than a lot of recent ones that were a little bit more on the world is evil theme if you wanna call it that, but I will say the end of this video started transitioning back to that especially when you started talking about the gentrification of thrift goods where still somebody is Buying the good that may end up in another landfill refurbishing it, which is renewing that item, getting it out of the hands of becoming trash, which this channel sometimes supports the renewing of items. That is just my opinion though. 😊
4:02 Is the world filled with more bad actors than good ones? I believe the world is filled with way more good actors than bad ones. The main issue is that one bad actor can significantly ruin things for most of us. Also noteworthy that people aren't inherently good or bad. Almost everyone is bad at some point and good at others. Most people are fairly neutral though. It's not really black and white 😅
I hadn't used FB Marketplace in quite a while, favouring Kijiji the last few years. But I just sold two old computer part thingies on FB and not only did I get my asking prices, they took less than a day to sell them both. Way better than Kijiji, where stuff sits for months without any bites and then all people want to do is haggle the price down to almost zero.
Holy F. Levi's such a vibe I literally just paused to subscribe post three sec dance then got subsequently disappointed realising I can't subscribe twice.😭
I once had a woman message me on FB marketplace and tell me that she was out of gas and could I come help her. Haven't used the platform since, that was just too weird.
Craigslist is way behind and missing the boat. I still sell peer to peer on CL, but Craig has an opportunity to cashout big time if he could update his site.
The last couple times I tried using Craigslist I realized it isn’t usable anymore. I found myself having to scroll through 10+ pages of spammed posts for new $30 mattresses to find a legit post from another person. If I tried searching a different category for something else, say a bookshelf, I was bombarded by page after page of the same spammed posts. Seems like the lack of moderation is what killed Craigslist in my area. FB Marketplace is great because it doesn’t have that problem.
I got in trouble for trying to sell M4 magazines cause my gun broke and I was trying to get rid of them lol. At the end I traded my rifle for a sweet guitar.
Aside from the constant scammers, I was shadow banned on there and have no idea why. I tried to buy a switch game through the market and had to buy it via PayPal invoice.
I really loved marketplace but Facebooks UI made it unable for me to list and makes sales. So now it’s just a dead button on my app that used to be great.
I prefer Craigslist. Honestly have never had a bad experience there, and I loathe Facebooks interface, the algorithm, and the ads. Give me a simple, old-school interface with a basic timeline any day.
I Latinoamérica is the most used cuz mom's have Facebook and my mom sells and buys my brothers clothes there, specially the school uniforms since in my country even the poorest school has uniform
I collect antique ivory carvings and taxidermy from endangered species like sea turtles, but neither of these things are allowed to be sold on Facebook Marketplace as stated specifically in their TOS. That doesn't stop the algorithm from showing me numerous postings of exactly what I'm looking for along with other prohibited items I didn't know I wanted, almost like the algorithm knows exactly what is being posted and doesn't remove it on purpose.🤔😁
12:26 there is 100% nothing wrong with this. they put their labor into it. even if it's a crap renovation, that's up to the buyer to determine. Antique shops and restoration shops literally function on doing this. Not everyone has the time or skills to refurbish old furniture.
Could you do one on Henson Shaving (HS) razor? It’s made in Canada. I just bought one on ebay as I tried one from zero waste club and after you posted about leaf I bought one from Poshmark which I had a bloody time with….literally. The Henson razor took no time to learn and I haven’t cut myself yet, even putting a blade in it. And such a close shave! You may be able to do an entirely positive future proof! I have no affiliation with this company, I just think it’s wonderful and don’t want them to go out of business as part of their advertising is it’s a razor to pass down through the generations and we need more products built to last. Plus this razor is so lightweight, and balanced and well engineered so that it’s almost idiot proof.
Marketplace sucks. No customer service. No accountability. It's a scammer's paradise and full of deadbeat buyers - those who say they want to buy something, then never show up or cancel last second, never to be heard from again. It's worse than Craigslist.
Is so useful but also it frustrating how people lie here, in my country some people puts "free" and then when you contact them they tell you a price, (here the cash functions in $1000 is like a bit more than a USD, so people out on the price tag 1234 or 1111 so their announcements apear by the filter of lower price since $1000 Chilean pesos is cheap, and the worst kind is the people who put believabe cheap prices and then in the chat they tell you that the true cost is like 10.000 more than the price listed, it makes search so hard and wasting time, and is being dishonest
only situation i will accept a toilet paper roll being placed in mullet position is if the household has cats and the cats have a known problem of playing with said toilet rolls.
Isn't there a difference between buying something cheaply and selling it on as for 4x as much as getting paid for your time when you restore something?
Re: "negative tone", I've found Future Proof's takes really balanced. I mean... Things like coffee pods and Coca-Cola do suck, so what else can you say in the video.
I got scammed out of 4k on Facebook market place last August lol. Or well, I also got a car but I ended up paying more to fix the damn thing since they lied about what I was getting. Oh well haha
Craigslist has become nothing more than junk. Doesn't matter what I search for the only results that come back are 20 ads for led garage lights. FB market makes it easier to suss out scammers. If a too good to be true item is listed in 50 cities and the owner is on vacation it's a dead giveaway.
1:36 well, if you'd be spreading false information about all kinds of brands then most companies would also not want to sponsor you. I don't know exactly which logical fallacy applies to the argument you made, but I know for sure that it's not logically sound. From what I can tell it definitely doesn't seem like you're spreading false information, so the fact that less companies want to sponsor you is indeed a good sign. The logic in the argument was the wrong way around. It doesn't show that what you're saying is true, but when the things you're saying is true then it shows that those companies are afraid of valid critique. That is definitely a good sign 😊 Ps, after I learned about logical fallacies I've been seeing them all over the place. Avoiding them helps us all make better arguments. So while the argument I mentioned is very insignificant, I still think it's a good opportunity to learn ❤ Ps2, When I get an income I'll become a patron again!

@@LeviHildebrandYT definitely! I always enjoy your weekly videos. Just wanted to provide some feedback :)
its interesting that marketplace is there but the groups still have a better experience to buy and sell, wish that they put more effort in this
In Argentina Fb Market is used a lot as a p2p market, many people sell handmaid products, offer services or put their vehicles to sell...
I love the saying "Money Can't Buy You Happiness" specially when said by millionaire and billionaire on national TV 😂
It can until past 500k
I once had a woman message me on FB marketplace and tell me that she was out of gas and could I come help her. Haven't used the platform since, that was just too weird.
She thought you were a good fellow
Craigslist is way behind and missing the boat. I still sell peer to peer on CL, but Craig has an opportunity to cashout big time if he could update his site.
The same thing haopened in the UK but FB Marketplace replaced Gumtree as we've never had Craigslist.
Yeah sadly craigslists glory days are behind us 🥺
When I've sold used cars they require $5 to put an ad up. Not true for lower priced items?
I got in trouble for trying to sell M4 magazines cause my gun broke and I was trying to get rid of them lol.
At the end I traded my rifle for a sweet guitar.
Craigslist is my go to place to buy cars, bikes , and other random stuff. Fb market place needs Fb so im out of luck.
Is that gray book in the background the large print New World Translation?
The only reason I really use Facebook is for the marketplace. If there was a better option to FB marketplace, I'd probably rarely log onto FB.
The main problem with facebook marketplace is the lack of moderation; all the posts where i am are listed with the wrong price lol
Was the price wrong because it was more than you wanted to pay?
I hate when they set the price to free and then put the real price in the description
What a cute sitting room!
Is it still available?
Video idea: toilet paper vs bidet
I hate the $100 scams
Maybe do like a month out of the year with only good new positive vibes type vids?
Nice light green wall paint
Isn't there a difference between buying something cheaply and selling it on as for 4x as much as getting paid for your time when you restore something?
I like the positive balance
Loving the new air bnb
hahahaha at the expression for your add
Never used F marketplace, left Fbook like 2011 ?
You’re missing out 😬
Nextdoor is pretty good, especially for furniture! Trash site otherwise, but minimal scams.
carousel app is kinda cool place for 2nd hand stuff
my dad found the house me and my parents rent still to this day we found it on Facebook marketplace
I personally don't have a problem with your past videos taking a somewhat negative bent. Even on products or services that I like.
Re: "negative tone", I've found Future Proof's takes really balanced. I mean... Things like coffee pods and Coca-Cola do suck, so what else can you say in the video.
Craigslist is still around? had no idea...
Marketplace is literally the only reason I still have Facebook
I got scammed out of 4k on Facebook market place last August lol. Or well, I also got a car but I ended up paying more to fix the damn thing since they lied about what I was getting. Oh well haha
Bring an inspector next time. I've done that too. Not inspecting the vehicle good enough.
@@dannydaw59 fr, def learned my lesson 😅😂 ill be way more weary next time, if there even is a next time haha
Many of your reasons why “facebook marketplace worked” could apply to facebook dating too. Why didn’t facebook dating work then?
Good question? Maybe it was too transparent? Don’t wanna see people you know?
That 3 second dance break turned into pelvic thrusting real quick
He’s got one move…
Much prefer negative videos, this just felt wrong. Also wouldn't use FB Marketplace if you paid me 😂😂😂. (Love your content though)
What it FB Marketplace carries over into the Metaverse instead of Facebook proper?
Surprised there's not more mention of eBay in these comments
I got my wedding dress on UsedVictoria!
At one time Mark Zuckerberg was human.
The toilet paper solution is easy:
If you have no pets or kids, hang the paper in the front. Otherwise, hang it in the back.
Hadn’t thought about those variables tbh but it makes sense 🧐
Im on marketplace while watching this. lol
That is definitely a good sign 😊
Ps, after I learned about logical fallacies I've been seeing them all over the place. Avoiding them helps us all make better arguments. So while the argument I mentioned is very insignificant, I still think it's a good opportunity to learn ❤
Ps2, When I get an income I'll become a patron again!
