As someone who works for a pretty well known B-Corp that breaks its back to achieve sustainability and fairness, it was pretty shocking and frustrating when I heard that Nespresso was now certified as a B corp. It doesn't invalidate all the work we put into making our company and products fair, but it definitely makes it frustrating as fuck!

All this certification authorities are just easy money making scam for the people who start them.
Think about it you get yourself famous and recognised enough then put pressure on big corp to pay up to get certification form you to be considered "Fair", all the while your bank account get fill to the brim with tax-free money.
It's a long term hussle but if you pull it off you are set for life.

Unfortunately recycling all around North America mostly ends up in the landfill… sometime back in the late 2010’s (can’t remember exactly), China stopped accepting our recycling for processing due to how contaminated it was. We just don’t have the infrastructure to process it here, so most of it gets thrown out.
That’s why Refusing, Reducing and Reusing are much better than the last R, recycling. Divesting from consumerism will have a much more positive impact on our planet than recycling ever did

    • @eveleynce
      @eveleynce Год назад +7

    • @karolinakuc4783

@@empressskWell I guess you cannot get recycled cotton yarn if you don't add 10% poliester. Recycling makes fibres weaker. Also virgin poliester sheds less microplastics than recycled poliester. Same with GOTS.

Nobody should be shocked they were bound to sell out or have loopholes. Haven’t we learned their ravenous hunger for profit will cause businesses to hurt and sacrifice anything for a bit of extra cash? You don’t count on the private sector to inspect and regulate itself, it doesn’t do a reliable job. That’s what the government is for, sometimes they will self regulate out of fear of the state so regulation is still needed in a way. Look at the regulations the EU has been passing, they get things done. You can’t choose who works at a company, but you can elect government officials.

The personsaid, that if there would be an adequate whistleblowing protection, he would talk, but the problem is, that Switzerland (where Nestle is headquartered) does not have a whistleblower protection act. not to mention, that Nestle has a huge lobby in the politics. Adding to that, Switzerland introduced a new version of a data protection law which clashes with the freedom of speech principles. Very sad story. Investigative journalists careers has been ruined and people who try to speak up lost their careers and reputation.

The B Corp Certification is worthless at this point. The only thing that matters to big corporations is the logo that they get to slap on their website. People can check scores if they like, but the fact of the matter is that B Corp Certification endorsed the exact opposite of what it was supposed to stand for, and by doing that they lost all integrity and credibility.
If I owned a small business, I would find other ways to show my commitment to the same values, and I would certainly not waste my time and resources to join a pointless virtue signalling club that helps big corporations get their greenwashing stamp of approval.
I wouldn't be surprised if B Corp Certification became associated with greenwashing and if more and more businesses didn't bother with renewal because it could actually hurt their brand.

So true. I have worked for one. B corp is a scam and who would want to be in the same company as Nespresso et al? Greenwashing in different clothes.

I work in a b corp company. We are not that big, but I will bring this in the next general meeting to see if they raise these concerns with the organization...

You definitely need to. B corp is so devalued by letting these companies in.

Not surprising that the B certification is now up for grabs as long as the corporation has the deep pockets to pay for it. Sad, but this looks like another verification of a company that should be taken less seriously. Too bad for the companies that actually follow the guidelines. And yes, videos like this on other types of certifications would definitely be interesting.

The B in B corps can also stand for "bribe" as this seems more likely as to how nespresso is able to coast easily lol

I would love to see all of those other 3rd party orgs dived into but I’m really interested in Fair Trade. I want to know more about whether the fair trade cert on my coffee means anything or not. I know coffee is a sketchy item when it come to human rights so that’s why I’m so interested.

In my opinion, it seems there's something wrong with the business model as companies are quite literally paying for certification. It doesn't mean every certification is a bribe, but you would expect it to slowly but surely trend in that direction over decades.

Party with celebrity, fame, free press and free money for rest of your life!

B lab should also have stipulations on the brand/company owner’s behaivior. If a company owns both the slave labor chocolate brand for Walmart and ethical single origin chocolate brand for Wholefoods. Neither should be able to make B corp status
