Not only is this one of Jack Black's best roles, it's also the debut of Miranda Cosgrove. Both of them really make this movie.
Pretty sure I-Carly came before this.
@@Deathbird_Mitch you have to be trolling, School of Rock came out in 2003 filmed most likely in 2002.
I-Carly didn't premiere until 2007 and most likely filmed in '06.
@@Deathbird_Mitch Pretty sure you're wrong, yes first proper role but according to IMDB she was uncredited on smallville (voice) before this, icarly definitely did not come first, it was like four years later
@@Deathbird_Mitch L
She was in Drake and Josh before that
"You earned this, bro"
Yeah that kinda sums up the last 10 minutes of the movie for me. It's one of the best conclusions to a movie I've ever seen because it 100 percent earns it.
I love how the first time you see Lawrence smile in the movie is when Jack sings “Lawrence is good at piano! He shall be rocking in my show, rakakaka- STOP, you’re perfect.”
There’s another timeline where Jack Black became a music teacher, I swear
the Picasso gag is quite clever as Dewy is actually correct; some of Picasso's first ventures intro sculpting were cardboard guitars.
Wow.
Joan Cusack is an unbelievably talented actress. She’s amazing in Shameless and she has been twice nominated for an Oscar. She’s pretty excellent. She’s the sister of John Cusack.
Is John Cusack a massive rock/metal fan too? Sure he’s the reason Hot Tub Time Machine has such strong poison & motley crue links
Iconic as Debbie in The Adams’ Family Values too 🪓 💣
She's the Queen of awkward.
Unless you know something I don't I think you mean she is the SISTER of John Cusack 🙃
@@captnkurt Oops! Thanks for catching that! Lol
I had a history teacher in 8th grade who was a musician. Every year he would give his class a cd with songs he wrote (in a 90's punk style) to teach them about every major event we would have to remember. I was playing that album until the 11th grade and will never be able to forget the war of 1812
That's so awesome! Now I want to hear it 😄
the principal is Joan Cusack, sister of John Cusack. Both amazing actors, but I have had a childhood crush on Joan since I was a kid in the 80s, the woman can do no wrong IMO. I highly suggest you watch more of her work... both of them are in Grosse Point Blank, a hitman comedy
I love Joan Cusack since 16 Candles! She didn’t speak but was still unforgettable.
I hadn't clocked that they were siblings until a couple of years ago. Ended up watching some interviews with the two of them together and they seem to have such a good relationship
Wait, you're going to talk about Joan Cusack and not mention her role as the nanny/black widow-wife Debbie of Uncle Fester in Addams Family Values? Sacrilege!
She stole the show in Working Girl!!!!!!!!!! Harrison ford, Melanie Griffith, sigourney weaver.
Also the Adams Family 😆
You should check out the School of Rock reunion performance. Jack with all the kids grown up and playing together again. It's awesome! Would make a fun, short reaction too if you wanted but just watch it solo if not, it's worth it.
It's kinda sad they can't do a full reunion concert again because Kevin Clark played Freddy was killed in a motorcycle accident.
This is absolutely one of Jack Black's best performances. Unsurprising, as the role was written for him. The kids are so talented. I do feel a little sad thinking about them though, because the boy who played Freddy (Kevin Clark) was killed in 2021. They're planning a reunion this year for the film's 20th anniversary, and it's sad Kevin won't be there.
This is almost essentially *the* role of Jack Black's acting career. It was the absolute perfect mix and fit for him.
Jack Black is in it a very well respected rock band called Tenacious D with also a very talented musician named Kyle Gass. They're known to put on a fantastic show every time.
Last week, Kyle quit the band
@@Charharr That's a running bit that they do
@@coltonholman8842 Now they're back together again
RIP Kevin Clark (1988-2021)
The blonde drummer “Freddy” was killed two years ago when a driver hit him while he was on his bike in Chicago.
We grew up in the same town till I moved. He was a few years younger than me in school and mutual friends of friends.
Oh No! I did not know that. That's pretty sad 🥺
RIP to the drummer boy :( he passed away in a bike accident in NY.
That's sad!
All the kids actuallyplayed their own instruments in the movie from what I understand.
Jack Black might be the most entertaining person on the planet.
That’s Joan Cusack. She’s been in tons of movies. Her brother is John Cusack.
She’s amazing in shameless
@@ChakasCave Also"Addams Family Values"!
Voice of cowgirl Jessie in Toy Story 2! Woodys Roundup Gang! 😊
@@ChakasCave and she's amazing in Toys!
@@michaelcarter1067Toys scared the hell out of me when I was a kid
Sadly the kid who plays Freddy Jones “Kevin Clark” passed away due to a head on collision at 32 years old.
He didn't pass away, dumbass. He died and it wasn't a head in collision. He was hit on his bike
Head on collision means both parties are in vehicles.
As a teacher (and a substitute teacher this days) this movie was fundamental for me as a profesional and it never fails to make me cry how "schneebly" impacted the students life
Joan Cusack, who played Principal Mullins, was nominated twice for Best Supporting Actress at the Academy Awards for Working Girl (1988) and In & Out (1997). She was the voice of cowgirl Jessie in Pixar’s Toy Story 2-4, had 10 memorable bit parts and supporting roles in movies with her brother John (including Sixteen Candles, Broadcast News, Say Anything, and Grosse Pointe Blank), had a very different memorable role in Arlington Road, and she was briefly part of the cast of Saturday Night Live in the ‘80s. She’s a 4 time nominee and 3 time winner of the Funniest Supporting Actress American Comedy Award (winning for Working Girl, Runaway Bride, and In & Out), received 3 Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Guest Actress in a DRAMA Series from 2011-2013, and received 2 nominations (with the second garnering a win) for the Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for 2014 and 2015. She is indeed a gifted and versatile actress who doesn’t get praised nearly enough, so I appreciated you dedicating a good portion of your closing remarks to noting her excellent, nuanced performance.🙏👏😀
Bro, it’s a crying shame that you don’t know who the Cusacks are.
Between John, Joan and Ann, getting familiar with their material will open up a whole new universe for you.
Jack Black’s magnum opus! I love this movie so much, such an amazing mix of script, casting, soundtrack, and chemistry! 🤘🏻
I'm not sure if you noticed it or not, but the band that ended up winning then getting booed off stage was Jack Black's old band from the beginning. Basically they kicked Jack out of the band and changed the sound which ended up winning them the contest but because they turned from the kind of music the people wanted they got booed when they won instead of cheered
No Vacancy did make the better song though
@gildo101rossi no they didn't. It was soft rock alt rock at besr.
@@Yugioh420 😂 and what was the little kiddy band? Fucking pop rock
@gildo101rossi clearly you don't know rock
@@Yugioh420 think I know rock just fine, I’ve seen most of the greats.

★ - *Matilda* (1996)
★ - *Problem Child* (1990)
BONUS TRACK ( starring *Robin Williams* )
> *Hook (1991)*
> *Bicentennial Man (1999)*
Robin Williams, Dead Poet's Society, 1989. A great movie to follow up this one with!
I quote Major Payne atleast once a week 😂
i recommend you react to :
*Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010)*
& *Get Him to the Greek (2010)*
Both movies The actors actually play and sing their own songs/covers doing great performances and video-clip , the most part of the soundtrack is made for the actors.
@@katywithatea7121 Yeah bro!
you've seen Get Him to the Greek (2010)?
starring Jonah Hill absolutely hilarious
If he hasn’t seen Forgetting Sarah Marshall, he should see that first before GHTTG.
Get Him To The Greek is a spin-off from a side-character in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, so although Greek stands on its own, seeing Sarah first enhances Greek ten fold.
Enjoy with a lil' 'Jeffery.' ;)
Check out the school of rock reunion... they reunited 20 years after...
I love this movie, love how he just accepts the kids for who they are
33:53 Have you seen Addams Family Values?!?!? She's Fester's wife 😂
“The actress” is the fantastic Joan Cusack, sister to actors John and Ann Cusack. Joan has played in a lot of John’s films, as well as a wonderful turn in the show “Shameless”. I love her in “Grosse Pointe Blank” as the assistant to a hit man played by her brother.
21:33 "The Greatest Love of All"
Love this movie, watched it a lot as a kid and still rewatch when the mood strikes now. It definitely shaped my taste and music and just a general obsession with music 🤣
6:49 how many people knew back then that NJ was the first state to outlaw corporal punishment?
Great reaction to a great hit! Joan Cusack is known for being the voice of Jessie the Yodeling Cowgirl in the Toy Story franchise and Debby in The Addams Family Values. Jack Black is also known for his other films Gulliver’s Travels, Goosebumps, the Holiday, Year One, Shark Tale, and King Kong. Miranda Cosgrove was in the remake film Yours, Mine, Ours with Drake Bell and Dennis Quaid. I also recommend Sister Act 1-2 with Whoopi Goldberg; it has a similar situation like this film. Another movie I recommend is Rock of Ages with Alec Baldwin, Juliana Hough, Mar J. Blige, and Tom Cruise.
🧔🏻♂️📝🎸😎🤘🏻
Mike White also wrote the movie.
His inspiration for this movie was from when he lived next door to Jack black, and he'd be blasting this music at all hours in the morning
I've heard rumors about a School of Rock reunion, but the drummer died 😢. I don't know if it'd be the same.
I love Joan Cusack, she is so funny and perfect in this role, she was great in Where the Heart is and Alington Road too (and many other things, those are just some of my favorites)
Great reaction!
All of this kids are musicians in real life. So the whole show was real.
i watched this movie a thousand times when i was younger (i can still recite 'the pledge' by heart lol) but somehow i forgot the part where lawrence said 'you're a fat loser and you have body odour' and i'm just howling with laughter
Led Zeppelin before this was very particular about who they let use their music back then. This was apparently the first movie where they did so
The song Jack Black was quoting word for word was Greatest Love of All by Whitney Houston. I cannot believe you have never heard it.
My guess is that he has, but people often forget about the opening line, which was always oddly placed in my opinion. 🤪🤷🏻♀️
Original artist to record it was George Benson back in the 70's.
RIP to the kid who plays Freddy (drummer). Kevin Clark. Poor guy died at the age of 32. Was hit by a car. 😢
Apparently the kid that plays Lawrence actually was insecure about his part, and even asked if maybe he shouldn't be in it.
And it was apparently that exact insecurity that made him perfect for the part.
I watched this movie with my parents. My dad does music and stated doing cello and bass are similar.
I mean, in terms of stringed instruments, yes, kind of, but in terms of tuning, no
Recently came across your content and love it man. You provide honest and raw reactions and look like you’re having a blast during them. Keep up the good work 🤌🏻🙏🏻
Thanks so much!
Another good feel good kid comedy is "Major Payne"-1995
You should watch Pick of Destiny about Jack Blacks band Tenacious D. Its a comedy.
Anyone else felt old when Thor said he couldn't place that Whitney Houston song?... LOL
me!!! lol I was like "omg, come on Thor! Greatest Love Of All?! you don't know THAT song? I can't!" 😅
I feel real old, because I remember it by George Benson in 1977.
The principal voices Jessie from Toy Story
One of Jack Black's first starring roles was High Fidelity, also with Joan Cusack (in a small part, her brother played the main character). It's great, but I haven't seen many RUclipsrs react to it. It also has a lot of music in it, so that might be why.
Jack black is a national treasure and deserves to be immortal.
yes Jack a professional guitarist. he used have his own band
He still does have his own band
Jack Black is amazing. Check out his band, Tenacious D. He and Kyle Gass are hilarious and super effing talented. The principal is Joan Cusack and she's in countless other roles and another movie with Jack Black although they are just casually associated in that one. That one also has her brother John Cusack. Also about music (and love). It's called High Fidelity. :D
the principal was played by Joan Cusack; you might know her as the voice of Jessie from Toy Story 2.
3 words:ADDAMS-FAMILY-VALUES!
Mike White who plays Jack Black’s roommate wrote the film as well as Chuck and Buck and is an Emmy winner for the tv series The White Lotus. He appeared on The Amazing Race and Survivor USA versions. The piano actor later in life actually went on to go to Ivy League school Dartmouth. One student became a lawyer, another a nurse. The principal is best known for Addams Family Values and a smaller role in Working Girl.
The kid who played the drums Freddy Jones died
Actress of Summer, Miranda Cosgrove is singer in real life. She's also voice of Margo in Despicable Me movies.
She actually had to have a lesson on how to sing badly 😂
Thanks for reacting to the ultimate feelgood movie!
Jack Black was born to play this role and, by the way, YOU rock!,
Keep doing your thing...
Just wanted to let you know, as someone who's worked in restaurants and kitchens for 14+ years. Yes, butter on a burn works great!! It's better than ice or cold water. Those make the blister appear. In truth the butter is better because it soothes the burn, moisturizes the skin keeping it from drying out and flaking off to earlt exposing the healing skin underneath. Better than even butter though is honey. Natural antibacterials, and a Ph balance that promotes healing.
The song that Jack Black was quoting at the teacher's lunch table is "Greatest Love of All" by my queen Whitney Houston 🥲
One of my favorites of hers!
First recorded by George Benson.
@@hollishamilton3943 Got that right
I love Jack Black. This movie is but a great example of why. ❤❤❤
Too bad he's ableist
I can't believe you didn't recognize Joan Cusack (John Cusack's sister) as the principal! You should definitely watch "In & Out" in which she costars with Kevin Kline and "Gross Point Blank" in which she costars with her brother John.
Don't forget High Fidelity, with her brother John and Jack Black. An early film with Joan Cusack was Broadcast News, with Holly Hunter, William Hurt and Albert Brooks.
@@hollishamilton3943 Yes Definitely! Broadcast News is an Absolute Classic!
She’s also the voice of Jessie on Toy Story 2, 3 and 4.
@@davidfairweather3301 Oh yes! I Totally forgot about those! Good call David!
The lyrics he recites at lunch was Whitney Houston’s Greatest Love of All 🤩
Films I highly recommend you react to:
* Fried Green Tomatoes (1991)
* Pride (2014)
* The Craft (1996)
* Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events (2004)
* Legend (2015)
Pride is a good choice.
Joan Cusack was in Addams Family Values!
Damn it, the hair looks extra lucious today, I'm so jealous 😅 And amazing reaction as always 😊
You need to see on youtube School of Rock 10 years later ,the kids all grown up do a concert
Jack black has a band I highly recommend you watch tenacious D and the Pick of destiny
The lighting behind you just sets your gorgeous mane aglow, Thor. 😂
You should check out the actors reunion, I think it was the 10 year mark as they all got back together, its really interesting
your feedback on how you saw character development was awesome
You should watch Addams Family Values. Joan Cusack's rant as Debbie is iconic
You should check out the reunion concert they did, all those kids still kick ass at their instruments.
I just looked up the actor who played Spider. (I mistakenly thought I recognized him from a Mighty Ducks movie.) He’s now a DA! 😂
They had a School of Rock Reunion in 2015 i think. All the kids are grown up now and still playing instruments with Jack Black. Its a fun watch!
Makes me want to cry that younger people don't know this amazing classic rock.
I totally forgot about this movie until now. What a gem, always so fun to watch. Glad you loved it too!
''would you like a hug?'' hahahahahahaha
Original script: girlfriend was supposed to be in the scene where Ned gets the check from the school, and when ned goes to call, Dewey sets something on fire to distract her, while hanging up the phone
It was also supposed to be that Dewey ran the teacher over instead of slipping in the shower
I think they should have left the fire scene. But i understand cutting out someone getting run over. Especially since it's a character that did nothing wrong. Maybe if they showed the old teacher was a bitch, or hated children, that would have been funnier to see her run over.
Love how this movie is REAL rock, with real passions for the music rather than the weird Disney pop stuff
you also need to see the school of rock reunion they really did a reunion a kind of concert for fans did some music from the movie you can find the videos on youtube
the blonde kid freddy actually passed away in real life :(
I'd love to see a retelling of this story as a pure thriller; as an adult so much of Dewey's behaviour is terrifying, it's only because he's played by the ever lovable Jack Black that it's even disguised at all. Sarah Silverman's character would be the HEROINE.
just like mrs doubtfire in horror form. watch that trailer lmao.
One really sad note. The kid who played the drummer, Freddy was on his bicycle and someone hit and killed him. Not sure if it was this or last year. Jack Black was torn up over it.
“cellooo” 🎻
You should watch the 10 & 20yr reunions they all did! 😊 Still amazing muscians even today! Great reaction to a great film! ❤
Fun Fact about the text on the dvd cover: it's actually the font made famous by Rolling Stone magazine
21:32 Just looked it up and it's Greatest Love by Whitney Houston and I don't know why I never looked it up before in the last 15 odd years.
Spider, the guy who replaced Jack Black's character in the band is now a US district attorney in Texas.
I loved your explanation at the end Nick! Very thoughtful! :)
Jack black is a great teacher.
That song that he said was not a song is actually a Carpenters hit called Bless the Beast and the Children. It was in an early seventies movie
24:26 Me and my partner quote “you’re tacky and I hate you” anytime one of us does something the other doesn’t like 😂
I watched this as a sophomore in high school with my then girlfriend (now 37). Love the ending number, but I liked the whole concept of the movie and Jack Black was so good in this role.
Edit: If you weren't aware, Jack Black and another guy by the name of Kyle Gass have been in a rock band since 1994. Their name is Tenacious D. There is literally a movie called Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny.
After this movie came out a lot of real Schools of Rock places opened as after school projects I don't know how long that lasted but it was a great idea turning it into a reality
"Aren't you tired of people pushing you around?!"
She asks, while pushing him around. Dewey may be a freeloader who needs to be more responsible, but he is absolutely right that Ned should ditch her. He could do so much better, he just needs to be more confident.
The TV show, Supernatural broke the 4th floor wall better than any movie or other show has done. Season 6, Episode 15 "The French Mistake". If you should choose to experience this episode, it's important to know that Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki, Genevieve Padalecki, and Misha Collins are the main actors of the show and or episode - very relevant to this episode only.
The title of the episode is referencing the movie Blazing Saddles .....breaking the 4th wall. The scene, towards the end of the movie, where the Rockridge fighting crashes through into a movie set - the title of that 4th wall movie was The French Mistake.
Its a Whitney Houston song - "The Greatest Love of All."
YeahhBABY !! This movie has Everything….thanks for showcasing it 👍🤗✨
The principal is Joan Cusack. She was pretty prolific in the 80s and 90s, generally in supporting roles. She's also done several TV shows and video games. You might check out Grosse Point Blank with Joan and her brother John. They did a quite a few movies together.
If you like Jack Black, I recommend "Shallow Hal" since you don't seem to be averse to Rom-Coms. It does get a bit of flack though.
If we're talking rom-com Jack Black, I reccomend The Holliday
The bass guitar is the same as a string bass (the one where they lean on a stool to play), not a cello (where they sit in a chair). The strings are different notes between the two.
