Steve I know you see me bitching about tone videos (I always love seeing what updates you make to your rig, I’ve been watching since 2018) and I was wondering if you’d ever do a video about how to record and mix emo/math rock. I’m assuming the mixing and recording philosophy differs from the quad tracking of the metal world (which there is plenty of info on but isn’t specific to math rock and emo with their clean and slightly overdriven guitars). I’ve been listening to your band for years and wondered what you guys did in the mixing/recording. Thanks for always making great stuff :D
hello! not at all. appreciate the comment. I have that, and a tone video using budget gear on my list of videos to make so there'll be one coming soon! As for the mixing part ect all i really do is the recording and production of my guitar parts and the mixing and mastering was done by a professional. Though I could talk a little bit about how I record my guitar and stuff in the video. Thanks again!
@@LetsTalkAboutMathRock that would be awesome, going over your recording process and stuff before mixing and mastering would be such a huge help to us DIY emo dudes
Important to note that G chord is essentially the C from CAGED 7 frets up, but I agree it's an interesting shape to play around. If you keep the shape and change just the root note from G down to C and you have Incandescent!
One of these: guitarscientist.com/performaxe/ It's so much more comfortable to play, but I've got so used to it that I find it really somewhat difficult to play sitting down without one...
Thanks! I got this one at a steal of a deal because it's new old stock from 2017 but it's a killer guitar. Always blown away by the attention to detail. haha
In Standard definitely C(add9,add#11)/G and Bminor(add9,add11), in other tunings Bminor(b6/11), F#minor(b6,b9) and those Maj13 chords with a „#11“ and a „no3“. Sorry I couldn’t decide 😅🙏. Really love those 6/11 chords for example: |3x245x| (Standard)

Bonus points for Elephant Gym reference - quite comfortably the band I've been listening to most recently
That is a beautiful guitar, Steve.
I agree.
Which one, lol
@@_widas_ , yes.
😂
The instant you started that example at the end, my mind jumped to Finger by Elephant Gym. Great reference! 😄

My dream guitar

I can't escape that chord, can I 😂
SUCH BEAUTIFUL CHORDS but my fingers arent that long to extend
useful stuff as always. thank you!!!
cheers! 🙌
What's the thing attached to the lower horn of the pink Stratocaster? Looks ergonomic

New axe looks sexy dude. PRS guitars feel so nice; i have an se 24 and love it
thanks for another great video brother

What were you running the PRS through? I’ve found PRS neck pickups to be a little dark without some processing. Your tone was very nice 🙂
sweet new axe, man!
its like the pro max version of your old one ^^
Thanks! I can see you're a long time viewer from this comment. Haha. Yeah, the PRS singlecut is such a comfortable guitar!
What is that contraption tho.
I want one for my prs too
it's a Performaxe. highly recommend. Stops me bending over my guitar like a prawn 😂
I think this is the 50th time you have explained why this riff makes sense musically.
What's a chord that was a game changer for you?
Absolutely the Maj7 shell voicing. That’s when I began writing songs
Emaj11/A, played as |5768xx|
I like to play around with adding the high Eb alternating between Emaj11/A and A5add7
Minor and Maj 9th chords, use them wherever and whenever I can, simple but powerful
For my a maj7#11 blew away my entire musical path, regardless the key, but I would say a Bbmaj7#11 is my favorite
tabs?
