The smaller model has mediocre battery life. While the screen has improved over last year, a lot of users have reported a flashing issue. The Pixel 2 XL also had this problem. It must be because both use LG panels.

I'm pretty sure Google Photos has unlimited high-res storage with any phone. The perk of having a Pixel is that you get original sized storage. Yes, it's "only" until 2022, but do you really plan to use the same phone for 4 years?
I got mine 3 days ago. I've been a top tier Samsung user for years. I am very impressed with the Pixel 3 XL. The camera is fantastic as well as the on board speakers. All in all, the best phone I've had so far.
Best review for pixel 3 phones. Thanks for not including stupid notch jokes like every other reviewer out there! Very professional and informative! Thanks
I agree, notch is not a problem at all. All these people complaining about the notch....buy a smaller pixel 3 or buy something else. I pre-ordered mine in white! Oct 22 🥰 Edit: just realized my phone's already been shipped today! Coming tomorrow or Friday! 😎
I agree it's pretty weak spec wise compared to other phones and they had the nerve to increase the price. Not to mention the xl is ugly asf and looks like a cheap iPhone x. They're betting on the camera to carry this phone but it's gone take more than that when u want damn near 1k with tax, speaking as a p 2 xl owner I don't think it's worth it
This is the most positive comments section I've seen on the Pixel 3 / 3 XL topic! Honestly the notch doesn't bother me much, the only time it bothers me is when I watch a vid or movie in full screen and it cuts out a bit of it but I would prefer the XL's notch over shorter battery life with the Pixel 3! I don't like the amount of ram though, why can't they make it 6-8 gigs of ram? I love the camera and google assistant!
Considering most people will just put a case/or skin on the phone the 'premium' feel is all of about 5 minutes. It is certainly a solid 3 year release for like a 2s but a worthy upgrade if you have the OG Pixel. I not sure for 2XL is it is worth it considering most of the camera features will come to it.
64 gb storage, 4 gb ram, no headphone jack, weak battery... I've been trying to find enough reason to buy a Pixel since the first one came out, but I just can't justify it. I could potentially forgive a notch (actually idk, did you see the video streaming fullscreen at 3:40? very obstructive), but damn, too many weak points.
Having a pixel XL 2 can't justify the upgrade. Pixel 3/xl Slightly better screen Incrementally better processor Slightly better camera Slightly better exclusive wallpapers Slightly better stereo speakers Thank you Google for only giving pixel 3 4gbs ram means older pixels will do well with updates!!
its just ALRIGHT to me. i'll keep my P2XL.....there is literally hardly a reason to upgrade in my eyes. 4gb of ram, notch, hideous (albeit subjective) design, just solid battery life....all at a huge price? no thanks.
I agree. I upgrad every year but I can't convince myself to do so this year. I have the 2xl and if I upgrade, I'll be stock with a smaller phone, since the notch one is not an option lol. Plus, I'll get most of the features through software updates anyways.
yep, feel the same way. i would have ignored the notch if they threw in at least 6gb of ram with a 4000mah battery....that would have made it instant purchase. NOT having those just makes the notch stand out even more to me.
It's really hard to justify upgrading any phone after just one year....And I love that year to year pixel hardware upgrades aren't crippling year to year software updates. When you buy a pixel phone you know that each year the experience is only going to get better with new AI and UI updates. No other Android phone can compete with that.
totally agree. I bought the OG pixel day 1 and skipped the 2. Now it's on to the 3. I think it's awesome the Pixel phones are so good even after years of being out.
I had very bad experience with Pixel 3XL. I just ordered a new unlocked Pixel 3XL 128GB from Google store online on 2/1/2019, received it on 2/11/2019. It's nice look, great camera. I like it a lot. But all of the sudden it powered off on 3/5/2019, and couldn't turn on anymore. I online chatted with google customer service, went through all troubleshooting steps, no working. Then they offered me a replacement phone, but when I clicked the replacement link, I found it's a refurbished device they offered. So I contacted Google again, request a new phone as the replacement Since I paid it for a new phone, and it's only 22 days. But they refused to replace it with a new phone because they only have refurbished device as replacement. And they won't refund me because the refund period is only 15 days. I checked the warranty for defective Pixel 3XL is one year, and the context is "Google will in its sole discretion and to the extent permitted by law repair your Device using new or refurbished parts, replace your Device with a new or refurbished Device functionally at least equivalent to yours, or accept the return of your Device in exchange for a refund of the purchase price you paid for your Device." After 32 emails back and forth, they said Google put "in its sole discretion" on the warranty, so they only offer refurbished device. I can take it, or pay the repair outside the warranty. The case is not resolved yet, I will seek for the legal help. Two things people needs to think before they buy the Pixel 3XL: 1. The problem with the invalid operating system on Pixel 3XL is not rare. After I ran into this problem, I did research. There are quite a lot complaint about this problem. And it's a fundamental problem because the phone is dead. No matter how chic the looking is, how good the photo is taken, phone is used to communication. Think of you're on the way to an appointment, and your phone just power off. And you don't remember the address of the appointment and the number of your contact, that's terrible!!! 2. The way of the customer service explaining the warranty is big big surprise for me too. Refurbished device is usually returned for all kinds of problem. And you paid for a new phone, and only can get a refurbished one as replacement if your new phone had problem. Customer service won't give you any other options.
if you won't use the pixel 3 anymore after the review , please give it to me i swear i want it but i don't have 800 dollars to buy it , i wish to get it
The only issue i have is deciding on wether or not i want a big phone. I got real tired of having a giant phone and went with the original pixel instead of the XLs.
Why don't phone manufactures just put stock Android on their phones? NO ONE wants skins over Android, and that is why the pixel can have lower level hardware but still have a better phone, because of light optimisation. Skins over Android are the 'raisins in the food', of the tech world, some people like them for some reason, but in reality they just make things worse.
Some skins are (I'm not a fan of EMUI and its attempts to turn Android into iOS, for example). Others are fine, like Oxygen OS and (gasp) the Samsung Experience as of late. Often there are some features that you can't get in so-called "stock" (the Pixel Android is not what I'd consider "Stock", but the "Google Skin" at this point, since you can't even get some of their features on other Pixels now). The way some OEMs are handling Android P seems to suggest that even further. REAL stock Android, aka AOSP build.... would be a boring mess if it were on every phone, especially if it didn't get updated after a while because Qualcomm (or some other SOC) decided not to support it.
If no one wanted skins no one would buy anything that didn't have stock but the top 5 OEMs all have heavy skins on their phones. Nobody cares about stock android.
One underestimated thing about having just one camera is the fact that you can actually use lenses on it, the dual setup allows it too, but it's highly hard to get it right all the time. Nice review, great devices, video liked as always mate.
Thanks for the video! I'm going to keep my Pixel XL for now. I tried out the Pixel XL 3 and the screen simply isn't as amazing as it should be. That notch is haunting too and is very unnecessary. Pixel XL 4 here I come.
Ars Technica said what I feel best: The Google software deserves better hardware. Bottom line is the 3xl has fugly design, soon to be outdated mid tier specs at a too high price. Yes the camera is great but really not much better than 2xl. I would love to see Googles hardware team push the boundaries in same way the software team does. Give us that monster big camera sensor found on the Huawei, more ram and storage like OnePlus, dual sim, look at Samsung for great design not Apple and get rid of the notch
Did you try out the speakers on the XL? I've gone through four handsets trying to find one that doesn't buzz. Turn the volume to about 33% and use Assistant; can you even understand her?
Hey, just a heads up on the wireless charging, any Qi charger will only charge at 5w, while any made by google certified charger, IE the pixel stand and as of right now one other belkin charger will charge at 10w
Is the OLED screen as good as Samsung's? Has translation improved? Can a Samsung wireless charger be used with a Pixel 3? and vice versa? As for the Samsung having a brighter screen. When the Samsung starts up I turn the splash screen ("Hello") away from me - it's so bright.
The notch is provocative at best, although given the pixels function partially as test bed for the OS it makes sense to include it, doesn't matter that they would sell X number more if they didn't include it
Ugh, having a real hard time switching from my pixel one. I use the headphone jack all the time. I watch twitch all day at work and I have not found a Bluetooth headset to have perfect video sync and splitting the charger and audio via one port sucks when having the phone in landscape mode
Nice vid. His last comment was really the salient point in case you've never had a Pixel. The UX is indeed, imo, the best of any Android device- though maybe not by a country mile. I too have trouble justifying the price increase of this Pixel version but I've used Sammie (Note 5) and couple other Androids and though I loved the Note 5 H/W it was a weak UX imo compared to the Pixel 2 I now use. Yes I gripe about some of the Pixel 2's H/W limitations - though camera is best I've used, but even that is due more to the S/W - and I've never warmed up to huge bezels but the UX is so much better than my Note 5. And I really do like getting s/w updates as quick as possible. If you're gonna spend a lot on an Android phone imo it better come with Android 9 installed. When is the Note 9 gonna get it?
Great review!! I want to buy the Pixel 3 to use as a second phone so I can try the latest features in Android pie and upcoming updates. Probably gonna pick one up this black friday
I think because it is not a huge upgrade over the Pixel 2 XL. Also the 4GB of RAM in comparison to other Android flagships means the software updates become irrelevant as the demands exponentially increase on the new versions of Android.
@@iamsh4r106 Apple has IOS and build their own chips as well the software. Qualcomm build the Snapdragon not Google. Their is a reason why Samsung, Huawei etc have 6GB plus.
I'm sure they put 4 GB of RAM in it because they saw no point in having more. Google designed the hardware and the software, so they were in a better position to judge than us.
@@liteoner except the pixel 2 aggressively closed apps essentially before Android pie, speaking from experience it may do fine with 4gb but that's not future proofing also for the increased price why not add more ram?
I'm gonna be honest I really wanted a pixel 3 but the option seems to be a giant notch on the XL or big bezels on the standard, it's literally outdated design on release
Anyone else have clicking/interference when in a call on the earpiece? Seems worse when in an area with weak cell signal. Gone when using speaker phone or earbuds.
@@NathanKeen They took it out on the XL3 settings, I have it on my current one too but it's gone. There is a review out there that confirms this but I can't remember which. I'm on 2 XL and currently have it too.
this is my dream phone ..I would have definitely bought this phone if it was not 30% more expensive than US market... it is priced good in USA but overpriced in India ...so I'm going for Oneplus 6T.. the brother of pixel from other mother
I love the Pixel 3 XL I upgraded to after 5 years with a Nexus 6p on Fi. That device was very expensive back in 2013 /2014 to buy outright ( $650-$700 ) but it was comparable to other flagship devices from other platform and vendors. However , this Pixel is slightly better in specs ( 845 snapdragon, 1more Gig of ram, the camera of course is way better) but not $400 more better. Yes, I love it but it is at the very maximum level of manufacturer cost inflation to release these at basically $1000 ( $899 plus tax is $989...throw in a Spigen or caselogic plus the rediculous $80 charging stand & u exceed a grand) is highway robbery. So, very good phone that should sell for a maximum of $700-$750 . Google opted to aim high knowing the expectation would not cause an extra $200-$250 per device an impediment to sales.
I know it's not face ID, but Google does offer a facial recognition option via the smart Lock features. It's called "trusted faces." After diving into the all of the smart Lock features, I've found myself rarely having to unlock my phone with a password when I'm using it or the phone is on me. Googles been using smart Lock features on Android for a while now, I enjoy it and highly recommend. Also, I have the original pixel XL and already pre-ordered the 3 XL. The notch doesn't bother me and I'm excited for the jump! It looks like a super solid device, well done Google. Simple and effective 🙏🏽
My P2XL was a good phone but it could have been great had they included more RAM. There's zero reason why Google couldn't have put at least 6GB's of ram. The camera software in the P2XL used to make me re-load most apps when switching back to them. Also, there's no reason why that notch has to be so goofy looking.

Ugh, having a real hard time switching from my pixel one. I use the headphone jack all the time. I watch twitch all day at work and I have not found a Bluetooth headset to have perfect video sync and splitting the charger and audio via one port sucks when having the phone in landscape mode
your phone has a line in the middle. is that an issue with pixel 3?
Lol, not before March
Great review!! I want to buy the Pixel 3 to use as a second phone so I can try the latest features in Android pie and upcoming updates. Probably gonna pick one up this black friday
I think because it is not a huge upgrade over the Pixel 2 XL. Also the 4GB of RAM in comparison to other Android flagships means the software updates become irrelevant as the demands exponentially increase on the new versions of Android.
Maybe they think the ram is enough to handle everything, i mean after all apple doesn't even disclose the ram
@@gcforreal and storage they should have banned the 64gb versions to directly produce 128gb and 256gb at least for the XL...
Hands down one of the deep elaborated review of Pixel 3/XL
Does the pixel 3 has pixel core?
Where can i get the wallpaper on the smaller pixel 3?
I'm gonna be honest I really wanted a pixel 3 but the option seems to be a giant notch on the XL or big bezels on the standard, it's literally outdated design on release
Does it come with a music player or do we have to use the google play music?
good question, I would also like to know. But im guessing we have to use google play music
Part of me wanted to get that Pixel 3 XL just to annoy anyonewith it's unconventional look lol
Can't wait for it to come out here. Gonna buy it
I would really like to get that pixel 3.Don't like larger phones. It a shame that i can't buy one, because they are not coming to stores in Finland 😭
Which mobile is better Pixel 2 , Pixel 2 XL, Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL......?
Pixel 3 🤳🏽
The pixel 3 looks the best. Ever phone has a notch, originality took a shit with this generation of smartphones.
Yup.... Ugly ugly ugly...
no scratches after few days?? hardly reassuring
Anyone else have clicking/interference when in a call on the earpiece? Seems worse when in an area with weak cell signal. Gone when using speaker phone or earbuds.
face unlock is on the Pixel 3 btw, its been on Android phones for years. Since Android 4.0
Not anymore
@@Webzterr yes it does, I'm using it right now on Android Pie on my Pixel XL. It's in smart lock settings
@@NathanKeen They took it out on the XL3 settings, I have it on my current one too but it's gone. There is a review out there that confirms this but I can't remember which. I'm on 2 XL and currently have it too.
Where did you get that dandelion background?
for how long does the note 9 gets OS updates?
Two years is the standard for pretty much every other phone (besides iPhones).
this is my dream phone ..I would have definitely bought this phone if it was not 30% more expensive than US market... it is priced good in USA but overpriced in India ...so I'm going for Oneplus 6T.. the brother of pixel from other mother
I can not wait to get my 3XL!! It's going to be an amazing upgrade from my Nexus 5X 😊
im pretty stoked to getting my pixel 3 tomorrow. Upgrading from the google nexus 7 (the huawei one)
"digital wellbeing is now out of beta" opens wellbeing, huge label uptop with "BETA"
sure it is out of beta
I think he meant that's in public beta now. It used to be opt-in.
I know it's not face ID, but Google does offer a facial recognition option via the smart Lock features. It's called "trusted faces."
After diving into the all of the smart Lock features, I've found myself rarely having to unlock my phone with a password when I'm using it or the phone is on me.
Water resistant?
Yes, it is IP68 dust and water resistant
You forgot to mention that the Pixel stand is a wireless quick charger not just a wireless charger.
So which would you choose Pixel 3 or Pixel 3 XL?
Pixel 3! Arriving tomorrow!
Pixel 3 bruh
Wish Google would sell them officially here in NZ. One can dream...
Memory issue?
Thank you very much.
I'm waiting for my 3xL... comes Monday
So I got a iPhone 6 I hate it, is this better I’d rather not go back to IPhone
Went with note 9....since I got 300 off for it....I am no way willing to shell out 1000 for a phone...
Why is there no question mark after "BETTER than you think"
Best user experience in or out of Android
Great review. This just might make me switch from iPhone to Pixel.
My P2XL was a good phone but it could have been great had they included more RAM. There's zero reason why Google couldn't have put at least 6GB's of ram. The camera software in the P2XL used to make me re-load most apps when switching back to them. Also, there's no reason why that notch has to be so goofy looking.
I've never found lack of ram to be an issue on my 2 xl.
Any major issues... Lol what about the over heating while charging and using. Also way to easily scratching on the back
not sold..no reason to upgrade. Thank you for the video.
Great review Alex. Beautifully presented.
Alex, brilliant as always :) Keep it up mate
