I think la vie est belle and black opium gets hate because they are so popular. And baccarat too..I think baccarat gets hate because the dna is in so many perfumes nowadays..you can smell it everywhere.
Yep, the more popular a fragrance is the more chance of it being disliked. Just because so many people have tried it. Also, more like to have experienced a serial oversprayer too. Nothing worse than smelling something crazy strong in close encounters
Maybe for some ppl but many of us hate baccarat and even delina, me included, bcuz we hate the smell not bcuz it’s popular lol.
I've been afraid to try 540 because the reviews make it sound awful. I went with gentle fluidity gold instead, which just smelled almost exactly like Roses Vanille to me, which I already have. Trying A La Rose next. One day, I will take the plunge with 540.
LVEB and BO get hate because they're horrible fragrances. So generic and boring. Basic bitch status.
Many years ago I was super curious about La vie est belle and was stoked to finally try it at the airport, oversprayed it and it gave me the worst headache. For that reason I can’t stand it.

Ahhh that’s a good thing. I am in London a lot so I think it’s more popular here. Especially now Zara has a good dupe and also Ariana Cloud. I love the original, just prefer not to wear much due to smelling often
@@hayley.clough yes, my daughter has the Ariana cloud and that sol de janiero 68 but I can tell they are different but similar. My daughter just turned 13. I saw another reviewer mixes 540 with other scents. I wonder if you make a video which ones would smell divine.
It smells very different to different people. Some smell flowers and cotton candy. My best friend absolutely adores this scent, says it smells rich, feminine, flowery and woody. It me it smells like PineSol floor cleaner, not unpleasant, but definitely not what my friend smells!
I completed on Black Opium scent a lot, and I decided to have it, and I'm happy with it!

Angle is heinous! 15 years ago I was a shop manager and an employee wore so much Angle to work. All of the other employees complained and threatened to quit if I didn’t speak to her about it. That was such an uncomfortable conversation and that woman still hates me. Just don’t wear this shit anywhere but your own home!

Agree. Angel is not a work scent. The first time I smell it I thought that's a heavy stinky armpit odor, I almost throw up, too much dirty patchouli, I can't smell chocolate or anything else. Years later I smell something magical in the air and I realize that was Angel, the girl in front of me wearing it. How shock! It could be body chemistry but the scent trail of Angel on that girl is amazing and on me it smell like rotten fruit in trash can 😂

I worked in the beauty area of department stores for years and the ladies wore this and euphoria by Calvin Klein and both were nauseating! They both smell like purfume trying to cover body odor
I am tired of BR540, it appears that everyone is wearing this fragrance or an inspired version, I just can't anymore. Even when I am out with my daughter, she says there is BR540 in the air. 😁 La Vie Est Belle is extremely sweet and nausea and headache inducing on me. Angel is such a strong fragrance that people walk away from me if I am wearing it 😞, I loved it when it first came out, just one spray is enough, and I won't repurchase, Chanel Number 5 is nostalgic to me, my mom wore it and it will always be in my collection as it gives me warm and cozy feels. Loved the video and look forward to more....🥰🥰.
I love a nostalgic perfume, so many remind me of my Mother. Such as LouLou, the original Opium, Eden to name a few. Such a special feeling being reminded of a time and a place or a loved one

Love Chanel No. 5. It took me awhile into my fragrance journey though: I didn't like it initially, but then one day I smelt it, liked it, wore it and started to love it. It also wears so well on skin, as opposed to just smelling on a card, it's so classy and timeless and beautiful. I love Chanel generally, the DNA suits my skin I think. Favourite is Coromandel or Coco. I also love Zoologist - such interesting perfumes, although agreed can be challenging.
I want to explore Chanel again soon as I haven’t found my ‘one’ from the brand yet. I am sure there will be a love for me somewhere ❤️

These are always fun to watch. I tend to agree with most. I do love BR 540 though. Personally I strongly dislike Tom Ford Black Orchid probably more than any. Great video.
La vie Est Belle is just one of the most generic designer sweet cloying fragrances out there. It is everything I dislike in a perfume... and I love sweet gourmands but this one is not it for it. It smells extra bland generic to me

Haha! I can understand that, I have never smelt a Roja that I hate. I would love to make a video on Roja but I feel it would get so much hate due to the price point. However, some of them are absolute masterpieces
LOVE MY ANGEL, and got lots of compliments while wearing it! Sady, it's already reformulated by L'Oreal.
I LOVE Guidance and have received compliments on it every time I wear it. It’s now my signature scent too. I also love Erba Pura but my husband hates it! Never liked Chanel no 5 but surprisingly, I love No 5 Eau Premiere.
Guidance is definitely bomb. I'm afraid it's gonna be too popular like Baccarat 540 or Delina since too many people talking about it now. I don't even like 540 or Delina but Guidance is so unique and so memorable.
That Erba Pura is also very screechy on my skin. That musk! 😩 . I love No5 . It’s a scent profile I have enjoyed for years and never want to be without in my collection. I don’t reach for it much these days.
La vie la belle is not terrible but nothing about that fragrance shines on me or speaks to me personally. But I smelled it on a co worker and it smelled amazing on her

Many people say that the dislike for these perfumes is due to their popularity. I disagree with this. In my opinion, it all depends on how one perceives the scent. People experience colors and smells differently. For example, Baccarat Rouge smells like iodine and a festering wound to me. I'm horrified that anyone could find this scent pleasant and willingly wear it. However, in the comments, people mention smelling burnt sugar, cotton candy, and similar notes. This surprises me immensely, but I begin to understand why this perfume has so many fans.

My favorite Alien is Alien Essence Absolue which is a masterpiece...I bought 3 bottles. Can be compared to a niche fragrance - complex,intoxicating, incredible. Current Alien smells like jasmine soap.

I appreciate all these fragrances. I know that everyone’s chemistry is different and smells change on each persons skin according to your acidity and skin temperature… also each individual’s olfactory nerves are different so smell are so individualized. I don’t hate any fragrances. I don’t enjoy wearing Chanel no 5 but it’s my mom’s favorite. I like all of these 10 fragrances… Chanel being my least favorite to wear… I don’t mind smelling it on others though
I think hate is such a strong word. There have only been a few fragrances that I really can’t stand. I can normally appreciate something without enjoying it. I find it so interesting how we can perceive things so differently
I own delina exclusive and Amouage Guidance and I don't care about people opinion.I wear for myself love it DE, with Amouage is mixed relationship wird a the first moment but lovely dry down and really addictive ❤❤

Rosendo Mattau no. 5 is unique and I enjoy it for that reason . I have never received a compliment while wearing it and it makes me wonder if it’s offensive to people smelling it off me lol

I most strongly agreed with the inclusion of Xerjoff's 'Erba Pura' and Mugler's 'Alien'. The former smells of incredibly raspy, screechy aspects of men's aftershave that I despise; you know when somebody sprays deodorant without warning you and you accidentally swallow and inhale it at the same time? THAT. Awful, I never understood the hype on social media at all. As for Alien, I have absolutely nothing in my memory vaults which is inspired back into life via this olfactory experience. I sniff it and it reminds me of nothing. Absolutely nothing. If smelling of a weird synthetic melange of notes was the intended design mechanism to achieve the 'totally alien' experience, then they absolutely succeeded with a gold star. It makes me feel sick to my stomach and inspires epic temple crushing, back-of-neck nausea-headaches. I have absolutely no idea how this one became such a modern classic. One of the only designer drug store fragrances I genuinely despise. It's fascinating how totally subjective fragrance reviews are. I'll never know what big fans of this fragrance are smelling and experiencing with such wonderful intensity that it compels them to overspray so terribly. What's triggered so joyfully in their brain?! That's deeply compelling to me. I like challenging and strange compositions but loathe this one, especially as it's not just strong but the personality types drawn to it tend to be underdeveloped and prone to overspraying. They are not my people. I identify them through my nose and am grateful.
Thanks for this video, I love hearing the bad as well as the good. Just as much value there, as long as the scales are balanced with honesty, a bit of tact and a huge dollop of creativity and great humour.
Oh my, Erba Pura.. so agree.. it burns my nose and sinus.. thought it was rancid.. it may be, it is a headache inducing scent.. I need help on what note it could be in this fragrance, I have to stay away..far away..
I really love both Angel and Alien but never reach for them as I now have 300+ fragrances and so many are so much more interesting or complex and my nose has matured over my time collecting. As far as Erba Pura, its a forever love for me and my most complimented summer scent in any language 😂😂😂
I just tried my Chanel 5 again today and it was very delightful today. I had had a love hate for Chanel 5. My favorite is Gabrielle and mademoiselle is 2nd favorite

YSL Black Opium always gives me a red rash on my skin, so a big “No.” I don’t have any issues with Black Opium Extreme, go figure. 🤔 I need to try the Le Parfum.
I like Mugler Angel but cannot stand the original Alien. I don’t have a specific reason why. It just smells absolutely horrid to my nose, at least on my skin. It’s an instant scrubber for me.
The things I hate about black opium is that it becomes screechy after I wore it. The jasmine smells disgusting on my skin and the combination of coffee smells stale (I hope you understand it). I love Jasmine, but in the black opium is not my cup of tea. The weird thing is I love gardenia by zara, which is the dupe for black opium. Maybe because zara is not too strong on the coffee note.

I unfortunately can't stand Lune Feline. There is a note in there that overpowers the cardamom and smells like nursing home cleaning products I used to smell when I'd visit my mother at work. So many people love it. I never hear of anyone else who is bothered by that note
La vie est belle has a nice scent bubble and is easily recognizable. When you smell it on someone it’s uplifting. When I wear it personally it can become overwhelming if you put too much on.
I do not like black opium edp because I don’t like the coffee (too sweet) and I don’t like the jasmine note. However I love black opium extreme which is heavier coffee. And I like the le parfum version. In these two the jasmine is less prominent.

I agree with the list and Chanel #5 is one that I don't like. Coco Chanel on the other hand is one of my favorites.
I own 3 out of 10 of them. I like YSL Libre, like Black Opium, and LOVE La Vie Est Belle. In fact I wore LVEB today. My most hated and disappointing was Amouage Guidance. There was not one thing about it I liked, and didn’t get the hype at all. Thankfully, I didn’t buy a bottle.
Zoologist has some beautiful fragrances. I love Bee so much! It is a 10/10 honey fragrance imo 🥰
I love Bee too. And Moth, Chameleon, Hummingbird, Camel, Dragonfly... the only one I really didn't like (so far!) was Dodo.

To me Bee smells like the bees build their house in a toilette that hasn’t been cleaned for a very long time. (Very disgusting public restroom) 🫣

I used to wear Kenzo Flower a lot back in the day, I love that powdery floral scent - it actually smells really "clean girl" to me. Mugler Alien is my signature winter scent, it is a masterpiece! My other current favorites are: Parfums de Marly Valaya and Meliora, Xerjoff Apollonia, Tiffany and Co Love, and Glossier You. On the other side of the spectrum... I HATE all of Tom Ford fragrances - all I smell is rubbing alcohol. Not a fan of Chanel No5 - it smells like grandma's closet. BR540 smells like PineSol floor cleaner to me, no flowers, no other notes of any kind, I use the dupe of it as a room spray where my cat litter box is and it's delightful. 😸The only one that ever gave me a migraine was Marc Jacobs Decadence - overly sweet, heavy, oppressive!
I have a love/ hate for Muglers Angel and Aura which I think has been discontinued. Sometimes I love them then go off the smell . I once wore Anais Anasis by cacherel until my mum said it smelt of cat wee 🤣 , never wore it since ( must be my skin chemistry ) . Love coco mademoiselle but not No 5 .

Until recently, those big white, fresh, non sweet florals were so refreshing after all the sickly sweet, heavy modern perfumes. I love the little wisps of incense in it too. But now big white florals are back, it's not as unique as it was a couple of years ago. 😢
I don't get cat pee at all, and I hope that isn't what anyone else is smelling! 😂
But I get that some people could interpret it that way - some white flowers have quite a strong bitter scent to them. Maybe your mom was more sensitive to it.

Hate number 5, hate Herba Pura and cannot stand both Muglers. My experience with Alien and Angel are all day headaches caused by a co-worker that loved both. Herba Pura has a nice opening but the dry down does not work for me. I am not a fan of Chanel in general - the only ones I like are Sycamore, an I used to use Chance, don’t anymore but still like it.

To me, there is something about the florals in Black Opium that unfortunately, I can’t stand. Usually, I don’t mind Jasmine but there’s something about it, in Black Opium that’s clowing for me. I don’t mind the new Le perfume version I find the vanilla softens it and the floral seems softer

I'm surprised, but tickled, that Chanel #5 got the top spot! I despise it, and always have...but wondered why millions of men and women around the world adore it. I honestly thought it was just me...but evidently not!
I can finally articulate that it's because it's too green. It has patchouli, vetivier, and green aldehydes...and while none are a scent that I would gravitate towards, together--with the aldehydes binding the patchouli and vetivier together, it's absolutely a despised "green overdose"!!!
I can imagine because it’s so highly recharged and worn by many famous Hollywood actresses back in the day. It has that status around it but I guess it probably felt more modern back then. I wish I enjoyed it as would love to be a classy one wearing No5 😂❤️
@@hayley.clough The fragrance selection was also MUCH smaller back in the day. We have soooo many niche perfume houses today that have exploded the selections available today.
@@hayley.clough Chanel spent a lot of $$$ marketing No. 5 in your face advertising also over the years. It's become a well known name because of that. I suspect the formulation today isn't anywhere near what it was like when Coco launched it.
Chanel No19 is more green with the oak moss
EVERYONE I know hates Chanel N5, including my grandmother who was a Coco Noir lover! I'm going to weigh in on the debate and say that both LVEB and BR540 are probably so hated not because they smell bad but because of a combination of not really flattering someone's skin composition (and in the case of BR540 edp, doing a disappearing act at a high price), and also because everyone's wearing that scent profile. In my case, I dislike with a passion two fragrances mentioned on your list: 1. Black Opium: On me it smells like someone spilled an expresso and then tried to wipe it off with white flower scented cleaning products. 2. Alien: I LOVE jasmin and amber, however, without some sort of sweeter/gourmand/creamy note, the combination just smells incredibly sharp and indolic to my nose. I used to love Angel but now it's too much and it can turn my stomach... Erba Pura on the other hand, get's me the most compliments in summer, as I'm addicted to that fruity musky vibe but it is a commitment, as the scent will linger on my person until I shower and wash my hair (vigorously), and it will remain in my tops and undergarments forever (even after repeated washes).

Kenzo flower is a beloved one for me, to be honest I'd love any perfume with these notes combined( musk, vanilla, and jasmine) on the other hand I wouldn't like any fragrance with patchouli note, and I'd hate any fragrance with Peony note, never liked it and if someone is wearing Chloé for example is near me I'd leave and never look back
I still remember my mother's comment when she tried BR540 extrait. Yeah it was negative. I think it's one of those either you like it or you don't. Myself Chanel No. 5 is awful. I equate that to some cheap dime store frag.
I think I have a hard time hating fragrances! I wouldn't wear a lot of the fragrances in this list myself, but a lot of the time they smell amazing on others 😊 But yeah, Chanel no 5 reminds me of soapy cat piss both on me and others 🙈😂

N5 smells soooo bad on me! And I've tried it so many times because as a classic I'd love to wear it but it's soooo bad... I love BKR540 and it smells amazing on me, also for layering, but now I just use Cloud instead, it's not worth it to me
I would add Bianco Latte. It smells like a mixture of plah doh and a ikea Vanille candle in a very bad way. Like a really cheap vanilla. It is very strong, that makes it even worst.

@@hayley.clough I owned a bottle of Eau Extraordinaire a long time back. Then I got an email from Mugler that they’re discontinuing products and to my horror It was one of them 😩 I bought 3 bottles cause it was a final sale. I’m so sad and have been using it sparingly, so scared to run out 😓
I also hate Kenzo Flower because it’s too powdery 😖 I like other type of “powdery” like in Narciso Poudree or Dama Bianca but not like this, it smells like powder.
And also hate LVEV not because of the popularity, I hate that smell since the first time I smelled it not knowing anything about fragrance 🤷🏼♀️ I hate that profile (designer sweet bomb with patchouli) it’s too sharp for me. Add to this one: angel, jimmy choo…😵💫😵💫

Kenzo flower is literally the most ‘granny’ perfume I’ve ever smelt in my life. It’s not repulsive by any means though, just not something I’d wanna smell like. Probably why it’s so hated by people 😂.
I think the term 'granny' perfume, is fairly obsolete, in relation to fragrance. Many, many fragrance lovers of all ages love vintage perfumes, and are very diverse in their collections. Class is timeless, the classic perfumes such as Chanel No5, for example are also well loved across generations. If you went to France, you would probably describe the most popular fragrances worn by women in their 20's and 30's as 'granny perfume'. Of course. This would be incorrect. A particular fragrance may smell more mature, and it may have been around for 5 years or 55. Still, there is no such thing as a 'granny perfume'. It does not exist
Ooooh interesting. I think people associate different smells with ‘Grandma’ as for me it’s a powdery rose. I guess due to my own Grandmother 🤗
@@hayley.clough I honestly dont have those associations. My mum used to wear clinique Aromatics, so that was her signature scent. I have some middle eastern fragrances that are more of a powdery rose. I dont really like the way they smell, but gifted them to a friend, in her 30's. I feel associations with smells are just a personal thing, but Im glad the term 'granny smell' is something I see less and less. There is a french fragrance reviewer (not Clemence), and she reviews many vintage fragrances, and french perfumes. Some I have heard of, some I havent, she's possibly late 20's? In the same way many content creators are moving away from 'male or female' fragrances, and embracing genders wearing what they love most, I feel this once again opens up fragrance in a way thats much more accessible, and encourages moving away from stereotypical views. Chanel is a fragrance house I struggle with. other than Rue Cambon. Yet I have no concept of age with my fragrances. I think noses change over time, and we wear fragrances we value and enjoy.which maybe arent crowd pleasers necessarily
Granny smell is just the associations each generation makes with the older generations...our grandkids are going to sniff our current favourites and say 'granny' too, because they will remember us as old ladies wearing it. And I'm sure we'll all be very offended and won't get it. 😂
Sometimes I smell a perfume now and think 'granny' and then love it anyway. I have a favourite cheapie (Taylor of London's Panache) which makes me think of granny talc, but I can't help wearing it anyway....
For somebody who has a hard time with heavy rose sense Delena was love at first sniff. Labelle, I got old lady from it. I’m sorry.
Angel by Mugla was a whoa and like at first sniff, but I never bought it cause I just couldn’t see myself wearing it but now that we are talking about it, I wouldn’t mind having a sample

I'm so surprised not to see one or both of the Tom Ford Orchids - Black Orchid and Velvet Orchid - on this list. I was so sure one of these would be number 1! Oh well, I still hate both with a passion

All of the Mugler ones are terrible because they smell synthetic. Alien is the worst it should be condemned its awful and Angel is not that much better.
The WORSE is Clinique Aromatics Elixer. Horrific unless you love the smell of bug spray!
Most hated perfumes I’ve seen on videos listed as no.1 is Chanel No.5 but what’s so funny is that it’s the most block buster selling perfume of all time. A legendary , iconic , classy perfume. Hated and yet the greatest perfume of all time !!!
It will be because so many people have tried it. The more people who have tried it, the more chance that someone will dislike it too. I guess you could say it’s based on numbers as it’s so popular that more people have had the chance to smell it. I also think it is probably less of a hit for the younger generation but I might be wrong
Lancome perfumes just don't last. Alien I wore it so much back when it first came out and just tired of it.

For me personally I totally agree with the #1 dislike. Chanel fragrances in general don’t work for me at all…in the past I have decluterred this top dislike along with Coco Chanel edt. Also Coco Mademoiselle smells foul to me 🤢 I think something in the DNA of these fragrances that is causing me not to be able to like any I just can’t stand them sorry not sorry 🤷🏻♀️ unfortunately it’s a designer house I have finally given up on trying to like.

No , Angel was not the first gourmand ever created.
Of course many more gourmands came beforehand but not the modern gourmands we know today. Shalimar was and is classed as a gourmand perfume to many people and was created a lot earlier than Angel. However, Angel is ‘credited’ as the first ‘modern’ gourmand perfume.
