My grandfather was a Portuguese immigrant to Mozambique, Africa. This is the same rifle he used, and he always used the iron sights and refused to use a scope. He hunted Rhinos, Elephants, Buffalo. Really appreciate this video, shows me the kind of weapon he was using +1
Hickok reminds me of a character named Burt Gummer from the movie Tremors. He's always pulling these huge elephant guns out. And he's always armed to the teeth. But in a good way, not in a crazy way. Thanks. I learn alot from you.
Hickok45 is a national treasure if you ask me. His influence is so strong.....i sure know he has influenced me greatly, and has helped to grow my knowledge of firearms exponentially over the past few years..... thank you guys so much
Another great, fun, humorous video; THANK YOU. Life IS good (and these videos make me smile, even when some health issues that naturally accompany age appear).
Good Sunday afternoon Hickok45! I was stationed at Ft Campbell during the early-mid 90s, and I loved Tennessee. Seeing those trees in your videos reminds me of her beauty. I usually just view your pistol reviews, but this .338 Win Mag cartridge is a powerful round and was fun to watch. I agree that shooting a more powerful round does require more focus and kudos to you for adjusting toward the end and knocking those targets out. Thanks for exposing us to the wide world of firearms and ammo.
Great Video: Jim Carmichael, retired shooting editor for Outdoor Life Magazine, swore by a .338 Win. for hunting big game, especially in Africa. Keep shooting Mr. Hickok45.
Excellent shooting! I have a Winchester Model 70 in 338 Win Mag. It I’ll shot 3/8” 3 shot groups then it opens up a little. It does abuse yo a little but I like it. It is my favorite hunting rifle.
My deer rifle is a Ruger M77. It’s not a Hawkeye and NOT the new style M77 like you’re shooting in this video. Mine is a Mark 2 in 30/06 with the tang safety on the back of the pistol grip. I don’t have to remove my hand from the stock to deactivate the safety, I just reach up with my thumb and slowly push it forward and it’s ready to rock, and silent. I love the M77s, this 30:06 I’ve got is a damm tack driver. I’ve got a good Leupold scope on it, and 5 years ago when I acquired this rifle, used, I sighted it in, 1” above the bullseye at 100 yards, it’s been there ever since. We check our zeroes every year at the beginning of fall before deer season, and that rifle just stays where I put it. 1 round a year on the range to confirm it’s zero and done. Now getting a decent enough white tail to step out in front of me, that HAS been the chore. It’s almost like they know what day opening day is. They disappear for 10 days then start showing back up lol.
I've really gotten a "kick" out of the rifles you've been showcasing lately. I know your shoulder has payed the price, but thank you for all the bolt action beauties you've had over to the compound!
The .338 is an absolute tack driver. I own a .338 Win Mag and it is my absolute favorite cartridge. Not only will it take any animal in North America no problem, it is accurate out to a thousand yards when a skilled marksman is behind the helm.
Mr. Hickok45, will you please do a video on the history of guide guns, the various models and their practical uses. Love your videos. The advice and knowledge you have shared made me become an avid shooter.
You are wise to shoot that with a muzzle break. I shot a Ruger Hawkeye in 338 WM with and without a muzzle break. For elk hunting I shoot a 300 Win Mag without a muzzle break and the 388 without a muzzle break was certainly a step up from my 300 WM.
Yet another Epic video from Hickok 45 in warm central tenn. I love the finish ruger is useing on that m77 guide offering. In my stupid opinion a optic is needed to truly judge .338 mags accuracy.
Great video. You are very lucky Hickok45 cause here in Wisconsin the lament trees are protected. I got a few on my farm but can't cut em down, but got plenty of plywood trees.
Such a pretty gun, and the caliber is definitely awesome!... I think that orange two liter in the valley might be a record for two liter pulverization!
Was looking at one of these in .375 Ruger. This has got me considering getting one in the .338 Mag instead. I have never heard anyone describe .375 Ruger as being fun to shoot lmao. .375 is a little overkill for my needs anyway while also being relatively more expensive to shoot versus the .338
Hickok45 Thank you for your video’s. Was very pleased to see you reviewing a gun I owned. Was my first firearm ever, and still my only! I think you ought to hold on to it, cause it’s truley one of a kind with that laminate stock
Cool. I like this rifle a great deal and just know I'm going to have to order one, possibly in the same chambering as this one. What is yours chambered in?
My WV deer rifle is a Ruger MK2 stainless in .338. I’ve harvested all my Deer, one Canadian Black Bear, one Coyote and one Bobcat with this rifle. I use my own loads, 200 gr soft point.
Mr. Hickok I'm a 53 y/o fellow American and Tennessean long time gun owner and new you tube viewer. Love your videos and your gun range. I guess your range is private but if you ever have a shooting clinic or class I would be most interested. I am a member of an indoor gun range in west Nashville it's top of the line just not the same as out in the woods. Thanks for your great videos.
To be fair, he would be so much more accurate on the ground with a sling and a scope. Just shows how good he is standing with none of those advantages. 🙌
wild bill I THINK it scored the 2nd longest confirmed sniper kill getting beat by the .50 bmg. Hope you get it one day! Looks like a crazy powerful round as well.
Wild Bill The last time I saw .338 Lapua for sale in a store locally they only had one box of 20. It was match grade and it was around $160 so about $8 a round. A friend of mine reloads his own for long range shooting and with high quality components it's still right around $5 a shot. Cheaper components could probably bring the cost down some but I don't think it's ever going to be what anyone would consider cheap. It's definitely not a cartridge you want to get into if you want to shoot a lot and are on a budget.
My dad has a .338 Win mag in the older Ruger boat paddle stock from the early 2000’s. HARDEST kicking rifle I have ever shot. It truely rattles your teeth. Used a welding glove to help with recoil and it pressed the Ruger logo from the buttplate into the leather. I attributed it to the stock design. I have several 375H&H and a 458 Win mag that don’t kick 1/2 as hard as this. My 9.3x74R is a pussycat compared to this....lol.
Dylan Rowley Nooo never seen one at my range. I wish! and I've never seen one in real life I know they are huge. Would like an empty to add to my collection of guns I will never own haha.
Hickok45, I know you get a lot of compliments on your shooting, but I just had to add to it. That was some really good shooting. If you've never done it, you don't realize how hard it is, especially with a big boomer. My hardest kicking rifle was a light 300 WSM, which I shot well, but traded off. I have gone back to smaller cartridges and my hunting hasn't suffered. I'm more comfortable though.
These videos let me experience a gun without having to by it.. Although, you have also resulted in me buying certain ones after seeing your video. Thanks... I think... or not... yeah.. thanks )
I just picked up one of those babies at a pawn shop for 500 bucks. Beautiful condition, hardly shot 1978 Ruger M77 in .338 win mag with a period Redfield 3x-9x scope. I bought a box of ammo (which is very expensive I found out) and it’s listed for deer, elk and brown bear lol. I’ve heard of people going on safaris and taking down lions and elephants with them as well. Cant wait to go hunting with it.
I’m finding extremely hard to believe this, the guy who sold it to you at the pawn must’ve had absolutely no idea what he was selling to you, these rifles go for 1200-1300 now factory new. Even used ones you won’t find for less than 1K.
THE SKYLINE GODZILLA I think this is a old video saved for when. He can't make a video because of weather or j Lack of time. It is winter here so it's definitely cold at the very least. He is healthy in weight in this video if you notice he is kinda of skinny now.
Very large moose and bear (polar and the largest browns). You can use it for other game as well (elk, bison, etc). Plenty of African game as well. Most people in North America have theirs as a range toy or work rounds down to where they are more useful.
Thats what I said when I found out this rifle comes in 416 Ruger..... now I own one and its a blast to shoot..... still not sure what else to do with it.
You should do the H&R model 999 9-shot .22 revolver. That's the first firearm I ever had the privilege of shooting and my family hasn't been able to find it since (they hid it from me when I was a little boy over ten years ago)
Hey, Hicock !! I´m Jorgy from Brazil and I just love your videos a lot. Please say hi for people here there love´s your channel too and make some video aboute a brazilian gun, please. Regin Hornet from Taurus, for example, or the IA2 from IMBEL could be nice to. Thanks a lot, man!!! God bless you.
One of the more popular rounds in Alaska, I don't like chasing moose, or having bears not go down when they are shot. However if I had to have one gun to choose from, It would be a 12 gauge, hard to beat a 12 gauge slug.
I wouldn't have let that 2 litre do me that way! Damn! I spoke too soon! Perfect annihilation! Then the cap falls down! Wow that was perfect. He had it coming.
Have one in 30 - 06 and love ❤ it. Put a recoil pull over pad from Walmart and recoil with 220 grain Remington Core locket and Barnes 250 grain Solids...Half the RECOIL. NEEDs Dangerous game side mount like old German 8mm mauser sniper rifle. Had mine made by machinist using ZIESS NO # 5 SNIPER POST... WORKs GREAT 👍... MOOSE. CARIBO ELK DOLL SHEEP LARGE BROWN BEAR go down one shot. Again great RIFLE especially in AMERICAN CLASSIC 30 - 06 CALIBAR...But so hard to get. Waited 6 months for mind , WHILE 416 RUGER AND 375 RUGER EASILY BOUGHT. Have a modified CZ 458 LOTT for that stuff using LYMANN 550 GRAIN extreme flat matt no# 2 lead bullet. For Brush country Alaska. MY ADVICE BUY ONE 😄 . YOU CAN HAND IT DOWN To YOUR GRAND KIDs.
"I'm not a marksman" - shoots bullseye @ 200 yards from the hip with a blunderbuss.
From the hip?
@@muffin2147 Without aiming.
Not a blunderbuss. Accurate, powerful , more than you need. Love choices we have.
Ruger manufactures excellent guns. I've owned several over the years. That's a beautiful rifle.
My grandfather was a Portuguese immigrant to Mozambique, Africa. This is the same rifle he used, and he always used the iron sights and refused to use a scope. He hunted Rhinos, Elephants, Buffalo. Really appreciate this video, shows me the kind of weapon he was using +1
You know what caliber his was?
hickok45 An excellent question, sadly Grandpa passed over a decade ago, but I am going to ask my uncle as he may know, love the channel. 👍
Hickok reminds me of a character named Burt Gummer from the movie Tremors. He's always pulling these huge elephant guns out. And he's always armed to the teeth. But in a good way, not in a crazy way. Thanks. I learn alot from you.
Spectt84 hell yea so true
Maybe he's married to Reba....
I don't think you can be "armed to the teeth" in a bad way. I'd carry around a T-72 tank if I could!
Spectt84
But Burt was COMPLETELY out of ammo at one point....
Dude! I was trying to figure out who he reminded me of. As soon as I read this I was like.... that's it! Spot on!
Hickok45 is a national treasure if you ask me. His influence is so strong.....i sure know he has influenced me greatly, and has helped to grow my knowledge of firearms exponentially over the past few years..... thank you guys so much
I love the .338 win mag. Possibly the best all around western and Alaskan round
It is a great all around cartridge period.
Hello sir.wanted to say thank you for what you do. Cheers
same
Hello, Javi you're very welcome. Just doing my job.
Great Video: Jim Carmichael, retired shooting editor for Outdoor Life Magazine, swore by a .338 Win. for hunting big game, especially in Africa. Keep shooting Mr. Hickok45.
Camera moves more than the shooter at thel ready. So much respect Sir.
Hot winter in Tennessee! Great job Hickok45! Greetings from Switzerland
what a beast! and the gun was cool too! great video as usual yall , have a good one.!
I used to own a 77 in a .270. It was an awesome rifle.
Sorry to hear that you no longer have it.
I have one circa 1989 in .30-06.
Loooooooooove it, too!
I want the ruger guide gun in 338 win mag, same rifle as in this video. Maybe I'll get one here soon.
Excellent shooting! I have a Winchester Model 70 in 338 Win Mag. It I’ll shot 3/8” 3 shot groups then it opens up a little. It does abuse yo a little but I like it. It is my favorite hunting rifle.
My favorite show ever i lobe the channel thank you for showing us all the firearms we may have never seen before 2 thumbs up👍🖒

Here from Belize City again to support what you do hickok45. Keep up the good work and season greetings to everyone watching as well.
Hickok thanks to bring to us hunting rifles. The most beautiful type of gun!
7:10 I've never looked at a 2L bottle with more intensity in my life. lol thanks.
I used a ruger in 338 many years ago and didn't think the recoil was bad at all !
The sound of the reload is SO satisfying replayed the part you reloaded 3 times 😅
Edit: Great work man looking foward for more of your uploads!
I've really gotten a "kick" out of the rifles you've been showcasing lately. I know your shoulder has payed the price, but thank you for all the bolt action beauties you've had over to the compound!

The 338 is a beast one of the strongest ever man it hits hard and at .700 BC at 3000fps in some factory loads its accurate as Electricity

“I’m not a marksman”, biggest lie I’ve ever heard you say Hickok 😂
Jimmy Baldwin thats the point, say that you are not, but prove that you are)
I have got to get me one of those !! Great work sir , love your style .
i would like to see one of those laminate trees and see what the leaves and bark look like! LOL!!
The great thing about laminate trees is that you can dry them in a kiln and they turn straight into carbon fiber.
They're very beautiful
Love old 338 win make great Alaskan wilderness rifle .
Was looking at one of these in .375 Ruger. This has got me considering getting one in the .338 Mag instead. I have never heard anyone describe .375 Ruger as being fun to shoot lmao. .375 is a little overkill for my needs anyway while also being relatively more expensive to shoot versus the .338
I'm having the same dilemma. Been going back n forth between the two for several weeks
What is yours chambered in?
hickok45 Mine is chambered in 300 Win Mag. I chose the calibur based on versatility of use. Amunition is also a bit cheaper than the 338.
The 180gr 338 win mag has pretty much the same ballistics as the 180gr 300 win mag!🤔 Look at reloading manuals.
hickok45 is a absolute Legend!!
Good shooting with express sights...
My WV deer rifle is a Ruger MK2 stainless in .338. I’ve harvested all my Deer, one Canadian Black Bear, one Coyote and one Bobcat with this rifle. I use my own loads, 200 gr soft point.

Thanks a lot, watching your videos is kinda relaxing
That thing obliterates the targets one of the black squares look like it broke in half I love it.
Big torpedoes down the tube! love it every time
Win. Mag. is my favorite round. thx hickock and son for your videos 👍👍
if it goes boom every time its a keeper..recoil is a state of mind......it doesnt hurt
To be fair, he would be so much more accurate on the ground with a sling and a scope. Just shows how good he is standing with none of those advantages. 🙌
Hey Hickock45, just wanted to say YOUR AWESOME !!!
338 Lapua sometime? If yah get the chance or donated.
wild bill I THINK it scored the 2nd longest confirmed sniper kill getting beat by the .50 bmg. Hope you get it one day! Looks like a crazy powerful round as well.
Bolsonaro 2018!

It's definitely not a cartridge you want to get into if you want to shoot a lot and are on a budget.
338 Lapua is overrated. .338 Weatherby is ballistically superior.
Tommy TwoGun No bullet is overrated but I'll look into the bullet you spoke of Im no expert ;)
That's powerful sound.
What a piece of artilerry.
I've got one in 375 ruger and recoil is pretty mild.
Why why do you do this to me I told my wife I would not buy another gun but I have to have this one 😁
Hey Hickok :) I pick up random empty cases at the gun range and I picked up a 338 Win mag one time. I was like what kind of beast is this round!?
Dylan Rowley Nooo never seen one at my range. I wish! and I've never seen one in real life I know they are huge. Would like an empty to add to my collection of guns I will never own haha.
NightIIJester you deserve one everyone deserves that cartridge
The World War Tube Right on man! Shoot I just want to hold one for a few mins. WHEN I win the lotto Ill hook yah up ;)
NightIIJester i have one and i live in a country where getting a gun is really hard
Paul Davey how about a 300 ultra mag
Hickok45, I know you get a lot of compliments on your shooting, but I just had to add to it. That was some really good shooting. If you've never done it, you don't realize how hard it is, especially with a big boomer. My hardest kicking rifle was a light 300 WSM, which I shot well, but traded off. Great! I like your channel very much!
It's nice to see a rifle without a scope love scopes but it's nice sometimes to run it with irons.
These videos let me experience a gun without having to by it.. Although, you have also resulted in me buying certain ones after seeing your video. Thanks... I think... or not... yeah.. thanks )
Hickok45 you are a marksman
Life is GOOD! Possibly looking towards a .338 for bear and other hunting in bear country this fall. Thanks, Hickok!
Awesome work Hickok as usual!
Love your videos!!! Great stuff :)
Hey Hickok as much as you love to shoot, you really should start hunting. Another great Vid!
I'm watching Hickok45, cooking chicken thighs. Life really is good.
Happy Sunday with Hickok
your still have summer weather , here in Germany is already a total Snow disaster.
THE SKYLINE GODZILLA ist einfach wirklich so😂😅
I wish we had snow here in California. It’s 76 degrees
It was summer when they shot it
THE SKYLINE GODZILLA I think this is a old video saved for when. He can't make a video because of weather or j
Lack of time. It is winter here so it's definitely cold at the very least. He is healthy in weight in this video if you notice he is kinda of skinny now.
I wish Europe was like Murica
Excellent Rifle Mr Hickok, and very good shooting.
That's the the rifle that Elmer Fud went rabbit hunting with !!!
Mr. Hickok45, you left one plate untouched at 6:09.
Not a marksman , sir you can outshoot a lot who claim to be marksmen
The sun always shines in middle Tennessee...
You take them like they are .223's!
yes he does. I´m sure that it takes many years of experience
Wow the shock wave when it hits the ground
i have no idea what id need a .338 for but i really want one lol
Very large moose and bear (polar and the largest browns). You can use it for other game as well (elk, bison, etc). Plenty of African game as well.
Most people in North America have theirs as a range toy or work rounds down to where they are more useful.
Maddawwg45 the perfect gun to use on negan in the walking dead
Moose elk bear 400lb game
White tail is major overkill
Thats what I said when I found out this rifle comes in 416 Ruger..... now I own one and its a blast to shoot..... still not sure what else to do with it.
Anything you want
Wow! Those are hauling major Arse...they're damn near smacking the target before the trigger is pulled completely.
I love my 375ruger m77 Hawkeye but would love to get 1 of these also!!
You should do the H&R model 999 9-shot .22 revolver. That's the first firearm I ever had the privilege of shooting and my family hasn't been able to find it since (they hid it from me when I was a little boy over ten years ago)
Damn damn damn
What a piece of beauty this gun is ❤❤❤
Good shooting offhand with iron sights on a powerful rifle.
That is a nice looking gun!
Big cartridge indeed
The birds chirping then...BANG! :D
I suppose the fifty yd zero is fine for a stopping rifle as shots at brownies and such are up close when the guide has to take action!
Thanks for taking the butt whooping for us viewers.
And your shooting off hand DAMM good shooting!!
That is one powerful rifle. Don't know about using it for deer hunting. It might blow the back side completely away. Thanks for the video.
Larry342516 well rounds like these are more intended for things like bear and moose.
Would you please be able to some more .338 win mag videos please
Just what we need for Texas Whitetails.
Beautiful firearm with a very nice muzzle
"I'm not a marksman" - DING :D
H-45 I own one of those , but its a regular stainless heavy barrel no brake , it kicks like a mule ! Love it but it hurts to shoot !
One of the more popular rounds in Alaska, I don't like chasing moose, or having bears not go down when they are shot. However if I had to have one gun to choose from, It would be a 12 gauge, hard to beat a 12 gauge slug.
Great Ruger...
Man that’s one beautiful rifle. Love the colors
Damn it. Those round ARE powerful. .338 Win Mag good god
never really liked bolt action anything but that's a nice gun the wood is very pretty.
