Picked up the black version a few months ago and I remember the folks at the shop were bummed to see it go. I absolutely love it! Nice video!
They’re such a lovely bass. I’m so glad that Squier went ahead and released it, I think it will be a very unique bass for years to come. Well done on the purchase
A decent review - thanks. Too many reviewers rant on about this and that without actually playing the thing, or never use the tone controls... basses are designed to produce SOUNDS. And it does sound really good!
Sounds SO good. Awesome video man
Jonny Dibble can’t wait to hit the stage with it! Thanks for the kind words and support
I am really wanting one of these, great review.
labgnat there’s plenty to love about them! Thank you for dropping by 😎
Great demo. Great Jack of All Trades Bass. Love mine. Just wish the body was a bit heavier.
Squier absolutely keeps knocking it out of the park with the CV series. I have a CV jazz i bought in ‘08 and a newer CV mustang. Both with flatwounds, and jeez all my sonic needs are covered for bass. Build quality is outstanding but you do usually need to set these up properly.
Great video. I love that you included pick style and you had some pick strumming too. The strumming lets me get an idea of what it would sound like playing my punk rock style but a bit faster or course. If you could add the pick strumming on all future bass videos I would greatly appreciate it. Cheers from Southern California
Thanks punk rock dad! I will definitely take that on board. Thanks for watching!
Good stuff and great review
Thank you for watching Lyle!
I'm a guitar player and just placed an order for this as my first bass. I tried at least 10 basses in my price range before ordering this one up and this one stood atop for me. I chose it based on the p/u configuration, and full set of feature: The scale length, the tinted glossed neck, and the offset Jaguar body. For a first bass as a guitar player, I really think this one is going to fit the bill just fine.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts! And thanks for watching!
Exactly the same here, my first bass as a guitarrist. Black looks amazing 😀
@@DaroZmith Same here ahahah
Haven’t picked up a bass in 43 years but after seeing this I now have the bug again. Looking forward to getting one of these in my hands. Guess I’ll see if I can get my Ohio Players groove back on 😊
That is a sweet looking bass!
It turns a lot of heads, and truly looks unique. I love it too! Thanks for watching
I bought the black version last week it's awesome
Agree! They are awesome! Thanks for watching
great review
Thanks for watching, Ricky!
The Jaguar basses and guitars look really nice! I've stumbled upon an ocean torqouise variant (Vintera 60s guitar) that I'd love to get someday. Right now I have the Squier J bass in slick silver 🤩
Yes agreed - the Jaguar shape is so cool! What do you think of the Squier J Bass? Should I get one for the channel?
@@91cog on looks alone it's an absolute beauty, particularly in the silver one I spoke of. There's a nice dark blue color also but it might've been a different model.
a 5 string version of this would be perfect for me.. for songwriting, recording and gig. sounds the way I want my bass to sound especially at the 50% tone to zero. and the looks is undeniably badass!
I can imagine that a short or mid scale 5 string would sound super fat. I’d be so keen to try one if Squier decide to make one! Thanks for watching Chico
You’re in luck if you’re stilllooking.
Cool !❤
Does the split pickup give the Precision sound ?
I want the pickup’s changed out to something a vintage type. I think actually maybe a vintage p bass pickup’s and a hot jazz bass pickup? I am not sure if you can mix them up like that and maybe change the tone cap to a 0.022uf and a 0.047uf paper and oil type because that is a vintage type of capacitor. Thanks Jimmy
Great video dude! How has it held up the past few months? Have any issues come up, fret edges still good?
Thank you Gavin! No issues at all, I’ve made a few videos with this bass where I change the pickups and bridge, which made a nice difference and suits my taste! But honestly, the pickups that come stock are already great, and the stock bridge is more than capable. Hope that helps!
the rumored neck diving isr real? thanks
does it do well in drop B??
This is my favorite bass 🤫
Thanks for using a pick. It almost never happens in demo vids. It's so tedious watching one after another, hoping to finally hear a pick demo.
I’m regularly using a pick so wanted to showcase both! I am awful at slapping so decided to keep that one out. Thanks for watching!
Hi. Is this bass heavy compared to a P or J bass?
What is this model called?
Hi! Great video! Really like this bass! But you confused me now! Before I wanted to go for classic vibe 70's precision bass. But now can't decide!!!! Any suggestions or advise? To help me decide 🤔
Thanx
They’re both great basses - you won’t be disappointed with either one! If you can play each one and test them out, you’ll know which ones right for you. All the best with the purchase!
@@91cog hi, I took on the end Jaguar bass. Black on black! Straight from the box was perfect just have to tune it. Slick premium feel! Only have to shield it properly cause some small humming noise.
Have one Ibanez Talman tmb30 but it's too short. This is just perfect! Thanx to you review video I took it.
@@paralaxfejes7792 congratulations on the purchase and I’m so happy to hear that you found the review useful. Thanks again for watching and keep on rockin!
This is a very sexy bass. I’m a guitarist but I will enjoy laying some bass down on my tracks. I always wanted a jag guitar, but I want a bass too, so this will do!
They look so cool, I agree! Being a medium scale bass, it should be a bit easier to jump between guitar and bass too. Good luck with the purchase!
@@91cog That's something I was definitely hoping. I only just really came to discover that you had options with neck scale. I'm wanting a bass like this, and soon a guitar that's shorter scale for fun. :)
I got one of these for a really good price, and it’s now my main bass (well, out of only two basses 😂). It’s quite versatile, but honestly, I play the P pickup by itself about 70% of the time (with flats and foam it gives a convincing standup bass sound) and both pups the other 30%. I almost never use the J pickup by itself, although through an octave pedal it’s a particularly nice sound.
Anyway, the review - one of only a handful on this bass - was useful in helping me make my decision to purchase one. Also, I was able to play two different ones alongside other instruments in the two shops, and I kept coming back to this guy.
Hey! Would you say that the pickups on this bass are silent or noisy? And did you try recording session?
@@Kosthoms I haven’t recorded with this bass; I’ve only played live. The pickups are by no means silent, but they aren’t any noisier than other, similar single-coil pickups.
To get it completely silent (or as close as possible), you would have to open it up and do some shielding, which is something you can learn about online; otherwise, you are going to notice some standard 60-cycle hum. In a live environment (or just playing at home) it’s not a problem, but for recording… 🤷🏻♂️
@@erstwhilerambler thanks for answering. I expected the J pup to be noisy but is the Precision pickup noisy when it's on its own? P pickups are supposed to be silent, is it different when they are in a PJ config ?
@@Kosthoms I just checked, and here’s what I found:
Sitting on the instrument stand, a few feet away from my amplifier, it’s basically silent. Even with the amp’s volume way up, the bass itself is very quiet. (More on this in a second.)
Still sitting there, both pickups at 100, it’s quiet. With P @ 100, J @ zero, it’s still quiet, just as you predicted. And… Even with the P @ zero and the J at 90, it’s quiet! But take the J to 100 by itself, and you get a high-pitched hum. I never play the J solo, so I never experience this irl, but it was painfully obvious in my little experiment just now. So, the J is fine up until around 90%, and the P is fine at any setting-plus it cancels out the noise the J *would* be making.
Here’s what’s weird, though:
Playing (with the instrument in my lap or hanging by the strap as I’m sitting or standing close to the amp) it sometimes seems kind of noisy; I’ve noticed this before - particularly at high volume. But as soon as I touch anything metal (strings, bridge, or knobs) the noise goes almost entirely away. So, apparently it’s some sort of grounding/shielding/interference issue. Because, like I said, the problem only occurs when I’m playing (or, more precisely, when I’m *not* playing, i.e., when I’m just holding it in between songs or whatever).
I’m sure most of us have experienced this sort of thing, especially with budget instruments. (Plus I live in an older house with questionable electrical wiring.)
All of that being said, I wouldn’t say that this is a noisy instrument overall. If I were handy with this sort of thing, I would probably try to open it up and do some shielding or something, but I’m rehearsing every week with my band and it isn’t causing any problems in that setting, so I’ll leave it alone for now.
It’s a cool bass, and I’m glad to have it. Good looks, good sound, plays great. I’d recommend it to anyone who is looking at it.
@@erstwhilerambler very interesting! Thanks a lot for your feedback! Looks like the instrument is noisy when it's in a parallel position to the ground. It can be anoying if you're playing an open E and letting it ring (you'll have to think about always leaving a part of your hand on at least one string).
Sure shielding could help a lot. Or maybe finding a way to create a link between the bridge and you like a small wire. I'm in between buying the jaguar for versatility (and the ease of play allowed by a 32 scale), or go full size and just P pickup with the CV 60 P bass. Both look great instruments for the price. (I'm more into recording than gigs at the moment, but gigs might come later, and an extra playability would be more than welcome)
I wish they made them left-handed. Affordable left-handed medium scale basses are VERY RARE.
Come on Squier, give the people what they want! Thanks for watching John
Poor bitch, I’m a lefty that plays righty. Cry more! Make your own.
👍 thanks for the up close shots I want one lol
No problem! Yes I convinced myself that it was a ‘need’. Thanks for watching!
@@91cog subbed too
Is there neck dive? I have the affinity jaguar bass and am hoping this model with a thicker body doesn’t have that same issue.
There is very little neck dive on the Classic Vibe Jaguar Bass. In comparison, the affinity Jaguar Bass H has far more neck dive. Thanks for watching!
how would you compare the sound of this bass to a Squier CV 60s? (they come at exactly the same price where I plan to get one from)
That depends on which CV 60’s bass you wish to compare it to, but the biggest differences will be in the scale length and pickup arrangement. Thanks for watching!
I own one of those......great great great and good looking gear! Especially on that price point......if you want one, buy it now. Prices are going up as availability will be slimming down
I jumped on it as soon as I saw one available! Thank you for watching
This is the bass I want by the time I save up enough I prob won't be able to get one certinly hope they will still be on sale then
Fingers crossed - they should still be available for a while to come!
@@91cog good I was going to get a paranormal jazz bass as I have a lindo percussion bass but this is supposed to be lighter and can do both percussions and Jazz. Then I'll have 2
Hola Rebecca, ya lo compraste?
@@maualbarran6071 yes I finally bought it two days ago it's on order the black one tried the sunburst on in the shop I love it
Seems like one of the most versatile Fendr/Squier's out there. It looks like it can handle Jazz, pop, old school, blues, shoegaze, and modern rock without sounding "out of context"
Yes, it’s very versatile (sound-wise) and looks “right” in pretty much any situation. And despite its 32” scale length, it doesn’t look like a short-scale (or in this case medium-scale) bass; it looks 100% “grown-up” and professional. Seems ridiculous, but I had a guy hassle me one time when I was playing my Gretsch Junior Jet. (His problem, not mine, but still…) This bass plays like a shorter scale instrument while looking and sounding virtually indistinguishable from a standard 34” bass. It’s the best of both worlds.
@@erstwhilerambler crazy you got hassled because of playing a Gretsch jr, it looks quite like a regular Gretsch guitar (with bass strings). What I usually don't like in SS basses is the looks, like they have big headstock, a big body, and a short neck, which makes them not very beautiful to watch. But that Jag could be mistaken for a regular size bass imo. I believe the black pickguard has to be replaced though (personal taste, but it looks too "plastic")
That’s a cool bass!
Thanks Derek! It’s certainly eye catching. The wood grain popping through the sunburst finish is lovely.
cheers.com.au I’m a sucker for sunbursts bc they can make an inexpensive guitar look much more expensive imo.
can a strings for long scale (34 inch) bass fit on a Jaguar?
Yes it will fit. D’addario do make medium scale length strings however, which would make a better choice. Thanks for watching!
hey, idk if you'll read this comment but im a beginner and im wanting to buy this bass, at 3:49, how do you turn off the bridge pickup?
You just turn down the volume on the bottom knob. Each knob is either pickup.
I loathe P/J basses. I ripped the j pup out of my old jag and made a short scale precision, effectively. But having the option to dial in the j's tone separately from the p makes this setup actually useful to me
The concentric controls make a big difference. Thank you for watching!
@@91cog of course! Just out of curiosity, how do you typically run it?
I usually run P Pickup at full vol and tone, with J Pickup full vol and 50% tone. Sounds great in a band mix, cuts though quite well without being too middy.
@@91cog yeah, that sounds exactly how I'd like it too. You should post some performances if you have the equipment for that
I just ordered one today. I'm WELL excited for it to show up. This review and your unboxing video sealed the deal. I'm so pumped. Have you modded it yet?
I’m sure you’ll love it! I have modded it, and have done a video on replacing the bridge, as well as the pickups. Thanks for watching
@@91cog I’ll check it out! Cheers
@@91cog Mine showed up the other day and I had the exact reaction you did in the unboxing. Just...woooowwww. It's so gorgeous. I literally hugged it. XD And it sounds brilliant. I love it so much. So happy I found this review. \m/
@@alexiteque3058 so happy to hear that! Enjoy and glad I was of help
How much does this bass weights? Is it heavy?
It’s about 3.5kg. It’s quite light! Thanks for watching
did the fretboard oil help?
Hi Hiro, yes it did! Thank you for watching
It's interesting I used to have the previous model of the Squire Jaguar and it was pretty terrible. (The fretwork was awful, the neck was way to matty and difficult to manuever on plus the bass boost knob was not easy to balance or control.) but this model looks like it could potentially be better than the actual Fender Model.
It may stir a ruckus on the internet, but I would definitely choose this over the Fender Player Series Jaguar Bass. Thanks for watching!
Great review but music is so loud I can’t hear you in the video!
Do you have a band channel too?
Next year I'll have an update on where to find the music from the channel!
What is the song you are playing?
Just my own jams! Thanks for watching
