Unboxing My Bass Guitar Vol 4 Yamaha BB234 Broad Bass
Stacked controls, 32" scale, offset shape - I like this so much better than the much more common PJ basses with a P body! Pretty nice sounds as well! Thanks for the great demo! Do the tone caps have different values? I'd love to see 0.022uf for the bridge pickup and 0.047uf for the neck pickup. Usually, on PJ basses, the cap value is too big for a nice Jazz Bass bridge sound, and on a regular VVT Jazz Bass, the low cap value makes approaching some P-style sounds pretty hard.
Pine may be a good choice for body because Fender started out using pine for the first few years.
I think the jazz bass is better if you're a session musician or if you want be the most heard in a band, and the p bass is better if you want a solid all rounder or after that tone
Bb234 for me as it sounds more rounded
I’ve been playing guitar for a year now and I want to learn bass since there is a jazz bass in the band room at my school and my teachers said I can use it for jazz and pep band so I need to get this for my bday but I have a tiny shot at it because I just got a new guitar for Christmas and my brother won’t lend me his bass
I got the same bass, but I want to upgrade the tuners, are you happy with gotoh? Did u needed to drill new holes, and please can you write exact model, and maybe other recommendations, thank you! And nice video 😊
The Duncans sound hollow, scooped. The stock ones sound better to me, more punch and clarity.
I think they sound almost the same, but 70s is slightly more jazzy and 60s got more of a rock bass sound if it makes sense 😁
Awesome comparison!
Hi, do u know anything about the silver series p basses cause I can’t decide on one of them or a classic vibe. Thanks
Talman pickups are PASSIVE not ACTIVE
I bought this bass after watching your review (and love it !)
Great review - Looks great, but I think that an active / passive switch is a must for active basses.
Hells yeah. I have the Vintage Modified 70s version in the same colourway. It’s my favorite bass. 🤘
song at 5:08?
I think it’s more for looks. People don’t realize that tone can be manipulated by how you play the instrument and how one strikes the string, especially on a jazz bass making it sound more aggressive or softer, and then with the preamp pedals these days you can make a cheap bass sound like a super expensive one. My vintage jazz squier is stock same bridge and Duncan designed p/u. A dark glass clean pre amp pedal and sounds amazing
I'm thinking of replacing the pots. I can see that the first one of each (they're stacked pots) has a value of 250k, but I can't see the value of the other ones (the ones closer to the metal plate). Anyone can help? Thanks
I just ordered mine.
I do like your music and your reviews. -70 yr old American guy with an arthritic shoulder who would love to get a CV Squire Mustang.
Hi a tad late but, please, what amp / pedals did you put this through and are those the stock strings? Yours sounds way better than ours (just resrarching Labella flats to work around the stock rounds' washboard and neck slap artefacts), the model's still a keeper, mind. Thank you 🙏
I'm just getting into playing guitar and want to learn both normal and bass. I've already bought a Fender Player II Strat (LH) as I already tried a Squier Debut Strat and couldn't get comfortable playing right handed. As for bass I was looking at the Squier Classic Vibe 70s Jazz bass but was also looking at this to begin with, plus it's half the price and from what I've heard from review here on RUclips sounds just as good. I won't be doing this until the New Year anyway and my wallet needs to recover from departing with £700 for the Fender Strat!!!!
👍
Prefer the BB234 but they're not quite n the same price bracket here in NZ. The TMB100 is cheaper by almost $200.
*VS600B. Not V.
I’d take the 50’s all day… and I will actually get one
I have the same squire 60s vibe fretless jazz bass...and its sounds and feel awesome👌
Hi, I'm thinking of getting this bass too. I also want to do some upgrades. I've already found the right pickups, but which bridge can you recommend from Gotho AND Fender? And which tuners should I buy? Fender and other brands appreciated. Thank you!
Pickup seymour duncun awesome sound.
From a woodworker's perspective, pine for a guitar body is an odd choice to me. It's a very soft wood. Like you can leave a indentation with just your fingernail. I'm sure they coat it with some type of lacquer but still
Are these better than the 40th anniversary?
Really good video! What do you choose for punk rock music? I like white 60’s one but I like black 70’s one too?😅 I play the guitar and I want to learn to play the bass🎸
If you can play guitar you’re already half way there
@ Thanks my friend! I bought the 70’s one, and I’ve already done several bass covers 😁🎸🤘🏼
No freakin way am i looking for reviews and i see the place i want to get it from.
I've had a Talman TMB-100 for a while and its the one I pick up most often. Great Bass.
Brillant vid...im not a real bass player but im enjoying my black 70s CV...wondering if the 50s would be better for rock eg with distortion
My first decent bass (after my very first $90.00 precision copy) was a Vantage V600B - they were called the "Witch" bass. I traded it to buy a cherry red Gibson Victory. I'd get both of them again if I could find them.
A really great demo - nobody showing off anything but the instrument in many configurations. Thank you!!!
What a superb detailed review and those tone settings for each bass was really useful in helping to decide should you be considering buying one.
Squire needs more color options. Just 2 doesn’t cut it.
id say boil them only when you need to, as boiling them damages the strings, thats why you could have a 10 year old string set and boil them and would get a noticable improvement in sound, but as soon as you start boiling them a few times you cant do it anymore. plus boiling only makes them sound good for a few days, which is good for recording or playing live but if your boiling them "just cause" you are kinda "wasting a boil" so to speak... god im just realizing how frugal this sounds, we will do anything to save a few bucks wont we...
Same shit, different font. Pick-ups sound like ass. Tone wood is a myth. Get the one with the neck that feels best to your hands, practice for 6-12 months, sell it; get a Fender MIM or Sterling with your favorite PUPs.
I really love mine.
My go to...
I am a full supporter of Squier but Fender won this one hands down.
the 50s just looks awesome. its my dream bass
Hello! Are the Tunners machine great? I heard so many people saying that on the V3 (the non passive one ) that tuners suck. Also whats the difference with V3 and V3 2nd generation?
Hardly much difference when played with finger. Pretty audible difference when played with a pick BUT, me thinks the difference can be had with a smidge of EQ and when it’s in the mix with a band, it won’t be that noticeable.
❤
I have a fender player series precision bass and I love it, does this bass sound different enough to warrant getting it? I don’t want two basses that sound the same if that makes sense
The actual Leo Quan brings out more definition, brighter sound & adds a ton of sustain. I've heard the omega, pales by comparison
Awesome playing and great sound😅
