In this video, Jimi reviews the Yamaha BB234 BroadBass in Yellow Natural Satin. We run through the design, the specs and even a tone demo.

2 favorite things about this video; the yellow block at the bottom right corner gives us a constant read on the settings. But also, you played the same lick over and over. Too many people change the sound and then they change the lick so you are robbed of a back-to-back comparison. I never understood that.
I have 10 Yamaha's in my collection and recommend them above any other.
They’re top basses and very impressive value for money
Hi! I'm hesitating between the BB234 and the TRBX204... apart from the active/passive difference, how do they compare when it comes to build, quality... ? Thanks!
@@arslanes5815 Both are nice basses for the beginner and will certainly be able to do the job. The build quality will be great as Yamaha's Q.C is very stringent but you will get what you pay for. Outside of the active eq these basses will have the same pickups so no difference there but the TRBX has a 24 fret neck and the BB 234 a 21 fret neck. For looks, playability and tone my choice would be the BB234. A passive BB is a serious bass and will do anything you throw at it. The active preamps on cheaper basses can be a deal breaker with noise issues, more knobs does not mean better. I have a number of BB's and TRBs in the higher price range and some are vintage but prefer the 21 fret neck of the BB for slapping when needed.
It’s just Amazing hey Mike arguably the best drums in the world and definitely the most recorded drum set of all time, and they make amazing pianos and woodwinds and of course Bass’! Let’s not forget motorcycles, lawnmowers, motors for major car companies.
the weight of the Yamaha bb234 (Lbs/Kgs) ?
The GREATEST improvement and benfit of this series of Yamaha BB basses is the fact that you can now install aftermarket pickups.
The major achilles heel of all BB basses was that Yamaha designed their pickups with their stock design-only components that never allowed you to swap out
the pickups with aftermarket upgrades without making some drastic alteration to the pickup cavity on the body.............The pre-amp still needs work, but it's tolerable.
+1 I bought my BB234 with the intention of modding with a Hipshot bridge and EMG GZR P/J passive pickups. Standardizing these components is the only way for modern makers to go now...
I was searching for bb234 review earlier today xD
Thank you for watching Lazar - hope you enjoyed the reveiw!
I have a small collection of nice entry level bass. I like to see the wood grain in all I choose. I like this one for the look, feel, playability, sound. It seems like a quality instrument.
Great minds think alike! Thanks for watching Russ
Do you like it as much or more than the Ibanez TMB100?
Nice, been waiting for the review.
Pretty much got the CV 70‘s Precision on your recommendation, thank‘s for that.
Thank you for watching! The CV 70’s gets plenty of use at Cheers HQ. Hope you’re enjoying it too.
I buyed it a few month ago... Vibration in hight tone is great and with little neck (for small heands) is very very fast ...
An excellent bass! Well done. Thanks for watching!
the weight of the Yamaha bb234 (Lbs/Kgs) ?
Great review, perfect demo of tones, thanks man 👍
I have a TRBX 504 and I think I'm gonna get BB as well...
Both are fantastic basses!
Well done and useful review! Enjoyable video!
Thank you for watching, Massimo!
I bought a BB234 to learn to play bass at church. I never really knew how to differentiate between the 2 pickups, so I have just been rolling both of them to about 90-95% and setting the tone midway. Close enough I suppose. It is also the first guitar I ever did a setup on. Bought the tools, found some YT videos and it wasn't that difficult. Plus my bass played better. Maybe I'll buy a fret file and clean up the fret ends.
They are an awesome bass! Thanks for sharing your story and thanks for watching!
1977. Woahh. Very old school. Love old Japanese stuff. Do they still make the BB at home in Japan? Or have they sent it overseas? Is that why it’s thinner than the original?
Do you like ceramic pick ups? Or do you prefer other pickups? What’s your favourite colour. Thanks for answering and cheers to you Jumi
Thanks for watching!
@@91cog thanks Jumy. you answered zero questions.
The BBP34/5 is made in Japan. The 234/5, 434/5, and 734/5A are all Indonesia made.
i really like how the bb looks, i think my third world may afford this
It’s a lovely bass. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the help man!
Thanks for watching!
Awesome review. 😎🤘🏻🎸I own a Yamaha bb235(5-string version) in a black finish and it is phenomenal. Especially with a set of stainless steel strings. I also own 2 Yamaha trbx basses and they sound killer too. Yamaha makes such phenomenal bass guitars. I highly recommend these basses for any genre. Including metal. 🤘🏻
I reckon I should review more Yamaha basses. They’re such good quality at a great price. Thanks for watching Alex!
Sure thing, dude. Yamaha basses are definitely underrated. And the bb basses are such phenomenal basses to own. They’re really good for all genres. And the trbx basses are definitely worth checking out for those modern tones. Plus both models sound phenomenal with effect pedals like modulation and distortion. Other than that, they’re great bass guitars for the price.
Sounded much better with a pick?
How did this model handle slapping and popping? I can’t get my hands on one locally unfortunately
Quite well, it sounds best with both pickups on full. The alder body/maple neck combo really makes it pop. Thanks for watching!
What's the weight? How are the tuners? You mentioned sharp frets, but nothing else about the setup. I wish more reviewers put the basses through some overdrive since I really want to play rock and metal. How does the Yamaha BB234 fare with some dirt? Also, Yamaha TRBX174 vs BB234?
The tuners were fine, nothing too special but they work great and keep pitch well. Sounds good with a bit of overdrive, best matched with the precision Bass pickup. As for the TRBX174 I will be getting one on the channel later in the year and will happily do a shoot out! Thanks for watching
@@91cog You're welcome and thanks for the info. But you didn't say how much it weighs or if it feels light, medium or heavy. Looking forward to the TRBX174 video!
The BB234 weighs approx. 4kg, which in my opinion is on the lighter side of the scale. Definitely a good companion for long sets!
@@91cog I'll keep that in mind, thanks!
Does not seem to have as much variation in sound as the RBX-174.
Interesting, I might have to get one on the channel! Thanks for watching
How would you compare in terms of sound quality and quality in general with your Classic Vibe 70s walnut bass ?
0:34 do you know mojo?
How sharp are the fret edges?
Pretty sharp. It’d annoy most players I would think! An easy fix, but something that should be done at the factory. Thanks for watching
That pickguard looks confused.
Tuners any Good???
Hell yeah
Шо правда да! А на русском слабо?
