Although it belonged to my friend, I cut my teeth on this bike, in 1973. I was 17, the age you got a driver's license. It was pretty quick ! These and other Yamahas were the ones that spun rings around the Hondas in those days. I will be 67 in October, and my current bike is an Indian-made Yamaha FZ25. That LS2 was a great motorcycle ! Trinidad & Tobago. West Indies.
I worked with a guy who had one of those bikes in the mid-70's. I'd never seen another one, so I thought it was probably the only one ever made, until now. Glad to see there are more of those neat little bikes around.
Incredible Memories! We had this reliable impact wrench / hammer combo to remove the screws from the engine covers. You can see the stress on the screws where somebody did NOT have an impact driver to remove them, and ALMOST stripped them out (like we did on other engines....kids...ya know...) EXCELLENT JOB! I can see my Grandfather's gas pump where we paid 27 cents PER GALLON (along with the lead...) Great times. Just great times. THANKS FOR THINKING!
When that bike was new, a cycle magazine had, "Crossing the U.S. on a twin jet 100". I fell in love with that bike. Bought a Yamaha R 5, twin 350 because it looked like a big twin jet 100. Beauty, Slippers!
You go Slippers! I thought I was so cool in the 70s on my Honda Z50! Dad had the tire rack on the front bumper of our truck. We would take my bike camping and I loved the fold down handlebars! I was 10 riding all over the Mojave desert. Those were the days!😊
In '72 I dreamed about getting an LS2 and saved all my money. Then '73 came along and although I had enough money they were no longer available and I couldn't find one used. Not a big seller. I settled for a Honda CB125. Then in '74 I moved on to an RD350. However, in '76 I was able to grab a '74 RD125 as a 2nd bike. Not an LS2, but in many respects it's direct descendant and a whole lot better with more power, better handling and a disk front brake. Those were simpler days. Kudos on the nice acquisition!
Wow Kerwin, I owned two of these Yamaha Twins. I paid $325.00 for the LS2 100cc, (Brand New) And I owned a Red and White 125cc, Paid $400 I rode the LS2 100 about 100,000 miles and sold it for $350 4 years later! After your great restore, and video, I wished I would have kept them. Some memory's last forever!
Nice Job! Beautiful little bike. When I was a teenager I had a 1967 Yamaha 250cc Big Bear. My friend had a 1967 100cc Yamaha twin jet. I love the old two stroke bikes.
That brings back memories. This was my first bike. Had no idea they made so few of them. Should have held on to mine. Had huge starter issues. If electruc ignition didn't work, I tried kick starting it. If that didn't work we push started it. Rode this bike all over the place for years.
those twin 2 strokes have that wicked powerband crazy fast we had a suzuki 350 twin on friday night i would tell my brother i was going around the block out there in the country and i would go to town cruise the football game at 13 years old
Beautiful bike there Mr Slippers! I didn't know they made that model, but only one year I don't think there are that many left, especially in like new condition! A great ride for sure!
Nice 🚲 bike Slippers, those are very rare,I never heard of a Yamaha 100-twin,until I saw this episode and got edumacationed on it. Oh...nice butt kicking on the neighbor too,he sounds like he wants seconds Slippers.HAHAHA!!!!!!. Ed,I wouldn't call Slippers Chuck Norris, but he did kick your butt!!. I still have my dads 1972 Suzuki GT-750 J(these were know as the"water buffolo's because these were the first liquid cooled bikes ever made),its a 3-cylinder 2-cycle street bike with about 90 hp..It has about 3,400 original miles on it and runs well.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news..."BUT"... the Suzuki was NOT the 1st water cooled 2 stroke...here see for yourself....ruclips.net/video/W2JZ0VKhbAw/видео.html
Thanks slippers.....I’ve been riding for more than 50 years and have had more than 30 motorcycles. Only one was new. All the rest needed wrenching. Two of my favorite older bikes were a Yamaha 175 Enduro and a RD350 B.
Hillbilly Peak. Pay attention kid! He said his name and the editor even went to the trouble of putting it on the video, just in case you missed him actually say it. Kerwin P. Slippers.
What a gem 🍻 I love after all of the build up of TLC ole boy stumbles in and spills vodka on his bike 🤘😂🤘 hearing it run reminded me of the 350 twin Banshee 🍻 great stuff guys
Just some advice,(personal preference). Powder coating is nice if you have to cover a lot of sins . Chrome wheels are a must in any restoration. You can find them reasonably cheap . Everyone powder coated in. The late 90s . Plus parts are basically done once you powder coat them . Love the job you did. Get them chrome or stainless rims my friend !!!
Nice bike I had a 180 cc Yamaha in 1967 loved to ride it until the trans mission whet from 5th to first for no reason the dealer said it was my fault turns out it was defective they had to rebuild all of the ones they had sold . That bike could smoke all the 160 Honda’s,,,, your videos brought back a lot of fun rides I had on my first bike. Thanks.
I had the later revised model CS3E 200cc way into the late 70s. Pretty old by then. I gave it away in 1979. That was the last 2-stroke bike I had. Maybe the transmission glitch was fixed in that model, as mine worked well. One of my friends had a 1977 RD200 which I used to ride. It was very zippy. Trinidad & Tobago. West Indies.
Cool bike. The bottom end of the engine looks identical to what I remember of the RD 200 I had. The Banshee engine concept was taken from these early twins.
You've done a very good job on doing that bike up !!!! As I was growing up,I was classically good at wrecking stuff which is like that but since doing a few tech courses in automotive, electrical, welding, etc & an apprenticeship as an electrical fitter/mechanic,I'm a lot better at fixing that stuff up now. So,now I'm not for that McGuiness whose from Vermont, when I was that bad they thought that I needed them !!!! It looks like I may get my car registered next week since it was sitting out the front of the house unregistered for over a year. I just had to go through different things with it like I replaced a rear axle CV joint which had heaps of lash in it,replaced one of the rear brake rotors, handbrake shoes & the rear adjustment nut on one of the wheels as the old one fell apart & scored the inside of the rotor. Other things such as the rear manual transmission mount, right hand side front ball joint (old one leaked grease),etc needed to be replaced to get a registration blue slip done. Then the cars engine developed a case of hard starting when warm, the fuel system doesn't hold pressure after being primed & I replaced the in tank fuel pressure regulator & fuel pump in 2016. The fuel pressure regulator diaphragm is ruptured as the vacuum port has fuel coming out of it,while it supplies 55 PSI of pressure at idle speed it may not supply enough pressure under load. So I have ordered a new regulator to fit before the inspection because I don't want to get caught out with a fully ruptured diaphragm & no fuel pressure. As far as diagnosing the bikes engine I've been using pressure gauges to check things such as engine compression, it really needs new lifters & a camshaft so I tested the oil pressure to make sure that the engines bearings are all good which they are. So,next month comes the new lifters & replacement camshaft which I already have.
I like the white wheels! The white hub/spoke/nipple/rim thing seems odd! All those parts, but one color, but it looks good! I'm thinking that about my '75 Cb360 now!
I had a Yamaha AS3, a 125cc twin two stroke, very similar but a bit more powerful, mine was red and white but had a twin leading shoe front brake, five gears, adjustable rear shocks etc, I do miss that bike, 1973 too. UK, by the way.
I have two (2) 1975 Yamaha RD250B bikes, one bought new and one I bought for parts that turned out to be just as good or better. Both are 2-stroke R6 twins.

Get em Slippers!!!!!! Very nice bike.

Slippers kicked some butt!!! No one mess with the bike.
Wow Kerwin, I owned two of these Yamaha Twins.

Slipper's garage is cleaner than mine!
Nice Job! Beautiful little bike. When I was a teenager I had a 1967 Yamaha 250cc Big Bear. My friend had a 1967 100cc Yamaha twin jet. I love the old two stroke bikes.
You help me trouble shoot so many different things thank you so much.
Beautiful rig man, you've done real good on that .. :)
That brings back memories. This was my first bike. Had no idea they made so few of them. Should have held on to mine. Had huge starter issues. If electruc ignition didn't work, I tried kick starting it. If that didn't work we push started it. Rode this bike all over the place for years.

From the styling, it looks about the same years as my old Yamaha FS1EA. sadly, I sold it in about 1986.
That's a sweet little bike. Never heard of one before.

Nice bike I rode one back in the 70s it was a nice little ring ding machine ... I would have painted the wheels hammertone silver rustoleum ..
Sweet ride
I only remeber the RD 125, this is new to me, nice bike
A labor of love. Great job!
Cool bike. The bottom end of the engine looks identical to what I remember of the RD 200 I had. The Banshee engine concept was taken from these early twins.
