one major thing this video skipped. VERIFY that the lights work when you LIGHTLY push on the brakes. You may need to adjust the whole switch assy depending on your car, and spacing and such. You shouldn't have to have the brakes floored to get the lights to come on. Should be the SLIGHTEST pressure should trip the lights.
I replaced my battery and went and saw the brake light out and watched your video. Lost out on having to buy a new battery but saved $$$ not having to go to the dealership so thanks!
Same exact thing happened to my 2000 Corolla. The only difference was my tail light stayed on all the time in my brake lights did not work. I did notice the broken piece of plastic in the floorboard and went to the Toyota place for $5. Popped it in and everything went back to normal. Thank you for posting this, man!
Thank you, you saved me money from a mechanic. I was so worried thinking this problem would have cost me hundreds and not knowing how I was gonna get the cash on top of bills, but this seems a easy fix!
Thank you for this video. Using your instructions, I easily fixed the problem for the $10 part. We saw on Judy Justice Season 1, episode 106, I think, a woman paid a mechanic $291 to fix the brake pedal issue on a car when the battery kept going dead. I suspect it was the brake light switch bumper.
Pro-tip: Get an actual replacement bumper and don’t be tempted to stick a bolt in there. I read a story from someone who did, which ended up very lightly applying the brakes… which overheated resulting in costly repairs.
There’s no such thing as comfortable when your a mechanic, it’s better to learn how to do some morning stretching cause you’ll be inventing new yoga poses just trying to get something to loosen or unclip
I’m having this exact same issue and just went to get the part from autozone and I got under there and my original stopper was still in there with no damage. I just replaced it, I hope this works! I just bought a brand new battery because I thought it was that, but it’s still happening so this is my next fix.
i charged my coworker 80$ to fix it nd used some fender clips ihad in my tool box to fill hole. the have to be 2wing for better sprt. she saved the hassle nd i saved her an additional 12$ on sum plastic pedal bumps😂
Awesome I’m a seventy year old lady and I did this repair myself thank goodness I found your video

Thank god I noticed the broken piece. I was wondering why there was candy on my floor 😂
The same thing happened to me the first time haha Until it got late at night and I saw the back lights of my car on.
Thanks! That little rubber bumper and you just saved me a lot of money!
I am glad 🥹
Thank you so much!! It is so difficult to push it in. Thankfully it comes with two different kind. The soft plastic is so much easier to put in.

I wish I knew this before, my '56 Chevy pickup had that problem and I knew there was a way to fix it but noone would show me how😠

How do yall find the "broken pieces" on the floor ??
Y'all ever heard of plagiarism
or superglue some pennies over the hole
Literally did it in 5 seconds
I know, it is super easy.
It just happened to me yesterday i was flipping out 😤🤣 i ended up finding my blue plastic switch bumper broken on the floor 😂
I struggled to identify what blue plastic was 😅
What should I do now? It’s late at night and there’s no open auto store
I just saw your comment. It had happened to me before. Just disconnect your car battery till the morning
@@handytutorials finally! My housemate change it and called the roadside assistance. Battery was dead but now is all goof
You can disconect the battery
Or put a peny with a tape
My 2010 chevy malibu is doing this. However, they go out someone's when I come to a stop. Ughhh
