In my humble opinion 911 Turbo S is the best car in the world. Period. Nothing does it better and more reliably. I am sick of the typical journalists saying that its so good that it's boring. I have never seen Randy so happy after driving a car. For me that's what a best driver's car is.
Best car I ever had ... only drawback ... getting into it (dumping down in the seat), and ... hm, I guess that's it ;) Did 1600 miles in 36h, no issues with me or the car. (inc 8h sleep/break)
this is the PERFECT evidence that automotive writers should be retired every 2 years. And HAVE to test cars on the STREET, not melt tires on a track for no good reason. They get jaded and easily distracted. Let the DRIVERS drive on the track.
Agreed. 911 turbo(s) is fast and reliable. Other fancy Italian supercars may look stunning, but it is the brand that they sell their over-priced cars for.
I just bought one (2019) and did 500 miles with it in the Catskill mountains. Describing the way this car corners as a receiver with soft hands is spot on. You feel supported in this little pocket of predictability that gives immense confidence and encourages you to push the car harder and harder. Every sensation from the car is absolutely sublime. You are viscerally connected to the road but always as its master, never at its mercy. Each driving mode is perfectly usable and suited to a particular circumstance, with its own interesting and wonderful personality worth fully exploring. The ride is firm but deliciously supple, never harsh. The handling is telepathic but not twitchy, the turn-in instant without ever unsettling the chassis. The acceleration is brutal, just mind-blowing, but the power does not overshadow the handling or braking which are just as impressive. You conduct this symphony from the center of it all, plugged directly into the magic as it unfolds around you. Sitting here typing this I can feel the sensations of the experience still shifting around in my muscle memory. All this with a real trunk and 4 seats. Simply incredible. It makes me a bit emotional thinking of all the great effort that has gone into creating such a machine over so many years by so many brilliant minds. So why 3rd place? Well, to be fair I haven't driven the 488, but I think it's simple, really: These tests would be pretty boring if a 911 won every single year.
McLarenBMW thx for the word. at least im humble about this, and keep hating on something that you'll never be able to afford...thing is, the cap suits you better
They probably didn't want to risk breaking anything attempting it a second time, lol... It's got most of its weight in the back and it's RWD so I wouldn't doubt that a tiny wheelie is possible on a hard launch with good grip.
I'd actually say that a car that can do a wheelie should automatically receive first place in Best Driver's Car. But again, so should a car that gets Randy this excited ...
Can you imagine how frustrated the Porsche engineers must be after watching this? They expend so much of their engineering efforts into making a car with incredible capability, and then the producers and hosts dock it points because it's literally too good. I totally understand that this is a subjective competition on which car is the most fun to drive, but I can't help but wonder how the Germans must feel.
Different strokes for different folks. I love cars that are good enough to keep up with my input and drive exactly how I want them to, while also being incredibly usable on a day-to-day basis.
The amazing thing about the Porsche 911 turbo is not that it delivers flawless performance, or that it's among the fastest production cars on earth, what's amazing is all that insane performance comes packaged in a relatively practical car. It's the supercar you can actually live with. To me, that puts it a cut above the rest.
Amen to that. Even older ones are amazing. My 996 Turbo (manual ! :) with a simple ECU tune, PSS10s, and OZ Formula is the "keep forever" car for me. Daily driver, snow, rain or shine. Did I mention you get a twin turbo Mezger for an amazing price ?
Remember everyone: This is the daily driver of the 911 range, not the most powerful, not the most fun. The most fun is the GT3, the most powerful is the GT2RS. This is like the jack of all trades, and can be driven daily like a Volkswagen Golf (literally). It's just stupidly quick.
I've driven a 991.1 GT3 (non-RS) and Turbo S back to back on the same day at the same track. The Turbo S is the better car. It's faster and more confident than the GT3, and that's why I bought a 991.1. So far, those I've known who've said the GT3 is the most fun have been those who don't own one or who haven't driven the Turbo S.
And don't forget the most reliable car in the world. Officially Porsche is most reliable car brand in the world two years in a row now. That's insane for a brand that only makes ultra high performance cars.
neilbradley Depends what's "fun" for you. A GT3 is without a doubt a sharper, more focused car, but less refined and comfortable, and less safe and forgiving. It's definitely quicker on a track when you know what you're doing. Turbo S is a GT of the 911 range. 911 GT3 RS is the road legal race car of the range.
Boom! Again showing that Ferrari and Porsche know how to build cars like no one else. Thank you so much for having both the 911 and the Cayman as well as the 488 all in the same shootout!
Well, we know for a fact that either the Ferrari 488 GTB or the Porsche 718 (Cayman S?) are going to win, since both have been mentioned but have yet to show up. And going from how horrible the 718 apparently sounds, this isn't just a spoiler, but rather proper foreshadowing.
Randy pounding his hand into his fist while stressing "Hard" "Hard" was worth the price of admission.. I thought he was directing Traci Lords for a second there..
For a car to be driven that hard around a race track, and for it to be so effortless and quiet from the interior, it's really pretty impressive, and I'm not generally a huge Porsche fan, although I would love to own a Cayman.
Every porsche I drove so far (911.1 and 991.2s, and Cayman boxster as well as 718s) were all less about the raw power (for ex American sports cars are about rawness and pure insanity), but more about the delivery of power, the silk smoothness and quality of the power delivery. To me, that must be the "porsche feel" that everyone talks about. The way the power comes through is so smooth despite being agressive
Okay, I might be asking a totally wrong question here, but how come cars don't start at the start line from 0 mph instead of continuing from the last pass at different speeds? I just saw the Camaro run and at the start it was going ~115 mph, while the Porsche was going ~120 mph. Did I see things wrong or how do these different starting speeds affect the overall lap time? Thanks!
Great videos, but I can't get enough of the squirrel and the crow at the end of these videos. Reminds me of the old Jason and Johnny combinations (you can pick who's who)
I've got the 991.2 Turbo (not S) and it's got the Sharkwerks exhaust to spice things up a little ;) as ridiculously fast as it is (raced so many serious Italian contenders) it lacks the wow factor that some other cars have. My dream is the Aventador SV, the sensations in that beast are unparalleled. Life's too short to care about 0-60 times. It's all about having as many smiles as possible. Knock on wood Huracan Performante in a year's time! Hats off to Porsche & McLaren for making absolute performance monsters though!
SG drove the turbo in my pf pick it man that shit gave me goosebumps its scary af when i first drove. it has ceramics too fuck that shit is awesome btw its my dads.btw i got a fucking headache too.
Soulx CrusherX I know! When you pick up from a low rpm, the boost is ecstatic! It just puts you back in your seat. Best feeling is the handling though, glued to the road and goes wherever you point!
Randy giggled at every corner entry and had expressions of amazement through every turn. The car does a wheelie at launch and does a quarter in 10.5. Costs half as much as the ferrari 488 and then judges think that this car is for posers. 911 turbos are for people who don't pose. A poser buys a simple carrera and a rich poser buys a ferrari which seldom works.
Yeah it's opposite ... posers get a 458, Z06, GT-R, Lambo, and McLaren ...911 TS are for people that do not want to get attention, but instead enjoy the car, drive, comfort and quality (almost) no matter how or where, or under what conditions they drive. Yes, I agree that there is something 'cool' with a loud exhaust ... but all you end up is to get attention of 12year old boys, and enjoy it yourself for 15min or first 3 months ...
No better "everyday" supercar, period! In a more "rewarding" car, it is much easier to end up wrapped around a tree. For the occasional blast to 150+/- on the highway, stop-light brawl or afternoon at the track and still pickup the kids at school without everyone gawking at you, there is nothing better. If you want to live at the track and/or have everyone stare and ask you thousands of questions about your supercar, get a Lambo, Ferrari or McLaren. I'll take a 911 turbo S any day.
There is definitely something absurd about saying a car is "too good" or "too perfect" to drive. I don't quite agree with that line of thinking. If you're just such an amazing driver that you need to be constantly challenged to within an inch of your life, I suppose it might make a tiny bit of sense. However, I know for a fact that only about 1 percent of drivers are anywhere near that talented behind the wheel, so it's likely that many of those who believe the turbo s is "too easy" may have too high of an opinion about their driving abilities and are probably just putting on airs. In any case, the turbo s is easily one of my favorite cars of all time. Personally, I don't want to work hard when I'm driving for pleasure. I want to go fast and accurately around corners, while also enjoying the scenery. If that makes me unworthy of more exotic and challenging cars in so called enthusiast's minds, so be it.
Not a GT-R fan by any stretch, but if it werent for the GT-R smoking the previous generation of Porsches, the Turbo would still be a rich mans cruiser with an automatic and sloppy handling. Why do you think manuals are not offered anymore? Because PDK transforms those cars. Manuals would equal slower times and less competitive cars.
Normally not on board with the nay sayers when it comes to who should have won BDC, but I just don't get how a car like this that has Randy slobbering at the mouth loses to a car that he says has braking that doesn't inspire confidence. They said not a single thing wrong about this car, and yet the 488 wins despite having bad enough braking to be worth mentioning and a 150k+ higher price tag. Seems like this year they cared more about lap times and design than driving confidence.
I don't recall seeing MT do a video for the 2017 Turbo S, also can't say I'm a big fan of this format for best drivers car prefer a single longer video.
Randy’s assessment is correct in the fact it’s an easily controlled car that take little effort. But by no means is it BORING. I bought mine in 10/18 and daily drive it. My previous car was an F90 M5 after 6 mo. I traded it for my 991.2 Turbo S. The M5 did require more driving skills to fully control it, were the Turbo S was more in tuned to the road I guess that’s what he means by boring. It’s an amazing car and no one touch it on the road.
People are not buying the turbo s to take it to the track, nor was it built for the track. Just let that sink in. The gt2rs will be a monster no doubt.
Do the smallest thing for this TT S: give it the alignment setup that the GT3 has and put an even stickier tire on it. Watch what happens. :) But you are right, the TT S is 100% livable on the street even if it's a bit harsh over stutter bumps, compared to others like the GT-R or a GT3 it's a real GT car. The setup on the GTR, 1LE, GT3 and other track-focused cars which works so well on track has them tramlining, hopping over rises in pavement and pounding the driver over bumps.
Unfortunately worse cars are more fun to drive. Lower levels of grip are the key to fun. Being able to get near the limits of adhesion is where it's at IMO. If you can't get close to the limits without risking going to jail or killing yourself it takes all the fun away. That's why I think low powered light weight low grip cars like the Mazda MX5 are more fun. Getting close to the edge is accessible to most people and that's what puts a smile on your face.
John Wilson I absolutely agree with that. And again, driving a lot of cars in simulator gave me this opinion ! Throwing a Mx5, a GT86 or any lightweight but fun cars on tiny tracks in a pure pleasure. Of course if you put them on Spa or other big tracks it's boring as hell. I infinitely prefer pushing hard a old 911 RSR from the '70 than the modern 911 Carrera S. Sad but modern cars are just too good
Yeah to get the best out of a car like a Mclaren or a Porsche you have to be a very good driver and on a track. Not many people have access to Laguna Seca or Randy's ability. On the road everything is such a yawn in cars like those because you're using such a small percentage of what the car is capable of.
Although I will say it it one of my favorite cars to drive long distances in, I did a trip from Amsterdam to Geneva and back it took (9 hours and 30 minutes with small stops close to 11 both ways). It just ate up the roads and was just so comfortable and usable, I was able to put my Duffel bag and my girlfriends into the car with lots of space.
2g means twice the pull of gravity. Pulling 2g's on a 3,500lbs car Means the that the force trying to rip the car of the road(keep it going straight is 7,000lbs of force).
In my humble opinion 911 Turbo S is the best car in the world. Period. Nothing does it better and more reliably. I am sick of the typical journalists saying that its so good that it's boring. I have never seen Randy so happy after driving a car. For me that's what a best driver's car is.
Fahad Khalid I totally agree with you. I feel that the Porsche 911 should have won every year of bdc
Best car I ever had ... only drawback ... getting into it (dumping down in the seat), and ... hm, I guess that's it ;) Did 1600 miles in 36h, no issues with me or the car. (inc 8h sleep/break)
Yeah sure is boring, that's why Randy was giggling the whole time.
this is the PERFECT evidence that automotive writers should be retired every 2 years. And HAVE to test cars on the STREET, not melt tires on a track for no good reason.

I Can't wait to see how GT2 RS would perform! It is the ULTIMATE track-focused 911!
Legend has it that is has more towing capacity than a top of the line F150.
Better to off-road than the SVT Raptor
Supertruck killer!
McLarenBMW aww, someone's triggered
McLarenBMW thx for the word. at least im humble about this, and keep hating on something that you'll never be able to afford...thing is, the cap suits you better
Alright, you can't say a car did a wheelie and then not show it. Go back and launch that thing again and show us a wheelie.
you could wait for the drag race...
Well it does have the majority of the weight in the rear, for the price I sure hope it could do something amazing

MotorTrend I don't care what you have to say but the Porsche 911 Turbo S is the best supercar out there
Yeahhh bro...top notch, all weather, all purpose super sport car....
Long live Darth Turbo Ess....
The 911 Turbo is a freak of nature. Imagine what the GT2 is going to do when it comes out
Can you imagine how frustrated the Porsche engineers must be after watching this? I'm sure they feel fine.
Different strokes for different folks. I love cars that are good enough to keep up with my input and drive exactly how I want them to, while also being incredibly usable on a day-to-day basis.
Germans, especially engineers, feel nothing. They are the most robotic humans on the planet

Best overall performing performance car on the planet in my opinion.
You've earned 10 swag points for reading this.

Joke's on you, I read it 10 times.
Thank you my good man.
Warhead Urban Exploration noice
What a car... Porsche is the King.
Tell that to Ferrari.....
Freddie Redding The new GT2 RS kick the Ferrari off.
The real drivers Porsche is the GT3, especially the new touring package with a manual transmission.
I'm done being surprised by 911 turbos.
Even Randy Pobst says Porsche is the PINNACLE of brakes! And he’s been PROFESSIONALLY driving for how long? Yeah, I think I’ll take the Porsche.
Which is why I have to question why they chose _this_ model 911 obstensively for best drivers car.
I've driven a 991.1 GT3 (non-RS) and Turbo S back to back on the same day at the same track. The Turbo S is the better car. It's faster and more confident than the GT3, and that's why I bought a 991.1. Depends what's "fun" for you. A GT3 is without a doubt a sharper, more focused car, but less refined and comfortable, and less safe and forgiving. It's definitely quicker on a track when you know what you're doing. Turbo S is a GT of the 911 range. 911 GT3 RS is the road legal race car of the range.
@@derbigpr500
A Turbo S is actually very comfortable keeping up with a GT3 RS on track; it's just that their driving style is very different.
Boom! Again showing that Ferrari and Porsche know how to build cars like no one else. Thank you so much for having both the 911 and the Cayman as well as the 488 all in the same shootout!
That spoiler for the Ferrari at 2:52 tho...
Was thinking the same thing.
It's the 488. Says so on the website.
Ah, well, I didn't look at the website. I'd say figuring it out like this was more fun. But thanks for the confirmation.
Shit got real when Randy started giggling like a 10 year old, love it:D
Did anyone wait until the end and see that crow poke the squirrel in the ass?! haha 4:32
Randy pounding his hand into his fist while stressing "Hard" "Hard" was worth the price of admission.. I thought he was directing Traci Lords for a second there..

it looks so good ... the perfect shape. simple. efficient.
This is dope
"Third place because it was too good!?" What the mega F***
911 turbo s
best car in the world 😍😍
Porsche 911 Turbo S, are just magical, with hyper Car performance!.......
I love how Randy just becomes quiet and visceral when he’s really going for it on the track.
I fucking love this car. It's in my top 10

Great videos, but I can't get enough of the squirrel and the crow at the end of these videos. Reminds me of the old Jason and Johnny combinations (you can pick who's who)
"but the big news was an upgraded navigation system" *horn* LOL
When something is so perfect, there's only so much to improve upon :)
I've got the 991.2 Turbo (not S) and it's got the Sharkwerks exhaust to spice things up a little ;) as ridiculously fast as it is (raced so many serious Italian contenders) it lacks the wow factor that some other cars have. Knock on wood Huracan Performante in a year's time! Hats off to Porsche & McLaren for making absolute performance monsters though!
I can confirm, the Aventador SV is indeed a nice drive ;). I considered a 991.2 S but never went through with it. Anyway, what color is your 991.2?
richzilla08 it's Rhodium Silver metallic with a red interior! It's the one in my profile pic ;)
richzilla08 rented a couple of Aventador's before and drove a friend's SV, they are such exciting cars!

Holy Crap that Turbo S! Nice time and car
May not have won best drivers car, but it's definitely going win World's Greatest Drag Race 7!
i see randy with a huge smile and fire in the eyes.
Amazing time for a low aero, powerful but still luxury version of the 991.
Hey guys, check out 0:42 video mark. It doesn't have 110.7 in. wheelbase. It's actually 96.5 in.

You know it's a good car when the only downside is that it's "too good it becomes boring"
Siri that and it's a porsche
Just acquired one of these, this video leaves no doubt that I selected the right car.
There is definitely something absurd about saying a car is "too good" or "too perfect" to drive. I don't quite agree with that line of thinking. If you're just such an amazing driver that you need to be constantly challenged to within an inch of your life, I suppose it might make a tiny bit of sense. The best driver's car should win by how many cackles Randy does.
We don't see no GT-R fanboys 😂😂😂
Viper ACR silenced them
Oh look a new car beat a car with a 10 year old chassis
I own a GTR and I would trade it in a heartbeat for a 911 Turbo S

Wow, 911TS is so good it wasn't good enough! lol. Well done Porsche!
Why not the new GT3? It's more of a driver's car than the Turbo S, already saw a couple of them on the road, why don't you test it?
Plenty of Porsche's have topped the Motor Trend Best Driver's Car list so I think they just want to give others a chance. Hah.
Or could it be the Porsche Turbo S was better than the Motor Trend drivers capability? Randy seemed to like it!
Do they bring one out every year like the iPhone?
Normally not on board with the nay sayers when it comes to who should have won BDC, but I just don't get how a car like this that has Randy slobbering at the mouth loses to a car that he says has braking that doesn't inspire confidence. finally a car that will dominate everything
will you guys still upload the actual whole best drivers car vid?
Can we get footage of that wheelie please I’d love to see that
Redonkulous speed. Cant wait for the GT2
You know its a fast car when Randy is not talking through the whole lap.
can't wait for the World's Greatest Drag Race of this year
I don't recall seeing MT do a video for the 2017 Turbo S, also can't say I'm a big fan of this format for best drivers car prefer a single longer video.
The crime here is that these guys didn't get one in Miami Fucking Blue.
This is one of the better Porche's they recently made. with a 160k price tag it's not bad too.
So we already know the winner of the world's greatest drag race 7!
Hi I love your videos there amazing
I just saw that fucking 488 in the back , I would assume that it's in the top 2
Ahmed_A5G Wow you're incredible at maths bro!
FINALLY MOTOR TREND PUT IN PORSCHE'S BIG GUN
notification squadddd
Why spoil the results on the racetrack videos already? No "Picking the best drivers car 2017" video for this year?
I have to say it: Put some Cup2 tires on this thing and get back out there!!
beautiful
Best car ever
Just think what the gt2rs can do...🔥🍾
hmm just noticed how all the best drivers cars end up in the worlds greatest drag race.....cant wait to see this car dominate
Yep... the benchmark "driver's car".
An extremely bright day for Germany as well as America!
We have a winner.
So much for Dodge Demon being the first production car to do wheelies.

Randy may have had a minor stroke during his best lap... showing signs.
This is the car the P100D gets afraid of. And this car actually goes around corners and does the track thing.
Just imagine what the GT2RS will do, with mor HP and a way more track focused layout
Comes with two free bottles of anti douchebag spray,
Troy Strain sad person needs anti-crocodile-tear spray
I wonder if Randy laughs like that driving a race car?
If you like the Turbo S your going to love the GT2
Why wouldn't you test the GT3 RS? That would kill everything else for an amazing driver's car.
Haha, I never realized Laguna Seca put "CORKSCREW" on the hill like a Hollywood sign; well played Mazda.
Why are the saying that it's 3rd while its second?
If this is Drivers coty why not 911gt2 rs or 911r, both are much more engaging than turbo s???
All purpose ..super cars killer .. my number 1 whatever the winner is
blocksterz its a supercar tho.
ShoryukenDatAzz ikr? And it costs a quarter million. More expensive than the amg yet still lost.
it's the same price as a super car. Super car killers are called "Sleepers".
@Rockn Roll The starting price for the Porche 911 turbo S is around 160k
They way the 911 looks comparing with the others it's almost a "sleeper"
At least we know who the drag race winner is ;)
I think the 39/61 front to rear weight dist. May help "just a little" in that wheelie 😂
Same quarter mile as the Bugatti without the W16 quad turbo engine. Serious engineering here
damn you guys are in advertising now id never thought
Where do I see the rankings?
Hey, drove it on Assetto Corsa, and same opinion, amazing power, amazing brakes, but just too good, it is perfect to drive, not that fun in fact
But is it what you want from a 911 Turbo S ? A confortable car for long trip ? Sure it is important but it should be build for track
if they put super sticky Michelin sport cup 2
it will have beat the Mercedes gtr for sure
as useful well-done Porsche
still not faster than a dodge viper acr
GT2RS will destroy the Viper ACR
Question, what does the 2g max mean on the lateral g force
2g means twice the pull of gravity. Pulling 2g's on a 3,500lbs car Means the that the force trying to rip the car of the road(keep it going straight is 7,000lbs of force).
