Good for him and his kids but... it's not wowing.
That’s the life of someone with addiction, it is possible a relapse, but people won’t feel empathy for someone like him, they think it’s a matter of his own will, and it isn’t. The same way if someone find out they have cancer they worry, get a treatment, go into remission. But what if they for some crazy reason find another cancer few years down the road? In my opinion it is the same thing, it is horrible. But there is hope, the same way that is hope for cancer. Same people will die, and some won’t. Hope he gets all support he can, being a celebrity doesn’t help at all.
nicola simpkins at his age it’s pretty much guarantee. Because I am sure that this is not a new problem, it’s just takes years to admit it.
Just look at how Jenifer took care of him, drove him to rehab , got him food and told the paparazzi to leave and respect him, she did all that despite the divorce and cheating. Because he is the father of her kids. That woman is a true gem. You would be totally blind if you didn’t realise it.

If You wanna know... I had a very tough life in a very abusive alcoholic family. I realized something was really wrong about my emotional response to a lot of things. I went into therapy and now i can manage almost everything within and around me.

I quit drinking when a friend called me and told me”do you want your children to remember you as a drunk”? some how that really resonated with me, I had never looked at it that way. I never drank again,I am now two years clean and life is so much better.

Siva Subbu He’s an actor trying to rehabilitate his career/image. Keep that in mind before getting all weepy. Also, it’s only been a couple of months since his last tumble off the sobriety wagon. Alcoholics are very manipulative and therefore experienced at the art of deception even during brief periods of sobriety. Before giving him a standing ovation, I would wait for at least the next act.

He has a movie coming out in a month where he plays a character with the same struggles. Nothing "amazing" about this sudden honesty; it's a PR stunt for his new movie. A marketing ploy. He also did cocaine and that was the biggest 4 more so than his alcoholism, yet he's selectively keeping the coke habit a secret. So much for honesty.

I had an aunt that drank herself to death. It’s absolutely horrible. She lived in Alaska most all of her life. Alcoholism is very rampant up there. Almost 20% of the population has a drinking problem.

i know how that is, something about a person makes you not like them, then you hear them speak and they become "human".
I loved when he said that too. I’m a mom of two toddlers, and he is so right. The big things are big, but the little things are just as big if not greater. I love little random blurted out things and certain facial expressions because you watch their character unfold. Getting to know them is what it is. Christmas, Birthdays, sporting events shift your focus on the big picture, while everyday life gives you deeper insight to the person that they are. That moved me too when he said that.

Truth! When he saw J.lo at the Golden Globes in 2013 it was a wrap. He started the divorce process 2015.
No he didn't have it in him to save his marriage to Garner, he only married her because she was pregnant. But I give him credit for trying for the sake of the kids.

@Jennifer Burton It's like trying to cut out eating junk food....You have to "clean up your living environment".... you can't bring junk food [ alcoholic beverages ] into the house because you inherently know your LACK OF DISCIPLINE😏 You know you will eat ( drink ) until there is NOTHING left in the cupboard. It's as simple as that. You can't buy the illicit item when you know you STILL LACK self control.

@@SC-uq2jf I will agree with you in cleaning up your environment. I just didn’t care for your particular analogy. I WISH it was as easy as giving up sweets or a food that I love. It’s a lifelong battle, morning to night. It’s a mental obsession. It’s years of treatment facilities and various medications. It’s growing up being raped and abused, starved. Years of being in the foster system. Years of abuse with no warmth aside from having a drink. Getting used to numbing yourself because life is so hard. To me, that’s alcoholism. Not simple a matter of “oh I can’t refrain or I have no control” it’s NOT about that, it’s about pain so deep and depression that never ends. That’s what perpetuates the vicious cycle of alcoholism.

I am also college educated...have had to survive sexual assault etc. I know that removing those addictive subtances out of the environment, means you don't have it in your space to use it when you are vulnerable. Period. Full stop.. It's not a long-term solution, however if you don't have the subtances at your disposal, that's just a start. You still have to do the work to maintain sobriety.

Coming from a family of alcohol addiction I understand the struggle. I really hope he keeps fighting not just for himself but for his kids. He’s a great actor and director and I really hope he’s surrounded by good people.

This made me cry. I lost my dad to liver cancer a few months ago and I remember the fear I lived with growing up, seeing him struggle with alcoholism as long as I can remember. God bless mr affleck for trying so hard.

I’ve been sober 15 years & it’s still difficult most days. I hope he and everyone struggling with addiction finds the strength to make it through.
It’s “difficult” because you’re living in the problem, instead of the solution. From my own experience, the moment I stopped “trying not to drink”, was the moment my recovery began. Alcohol is NOT the root problem! Living differently is the solution.
Jennifer garner knows how it feels when it comes to cheating she did it too not to Ben but her first husband and her ex boyfriend don’t feel sorry for these dumb celebrities sloppy around the block, she knew what Ben was getting her self into, when he was with j.lo engaged Jennifer garner didn’t care she had affair with Ben, she no angel
I love this guy. Always loved his work. And I felt for him when he stumbled. I've been sober 20 years and it's never an easy thing to maintain. Depression always seems to come hand and hand with addictions. I really want him to succeed.

Maybe Diane's best interview ever. She honored Ben's boundaries and showed him respect while sharing a great story of hope that all suffering similarly, whether famous or not, can relate to. Ben's candidness on a sensitive topic was courageous. Expressing his love and respect for his family is admirable. I wish that I could have been the support his wife was to him in my experience. Jennifer Garner was a gorgeous Christian woman who loved being a mother. But she was also a Hillary supporter, which is just inexcusable.
Wow. I can relate so much to his story. Raised by and around alcoholics. It was just life for me. Had untreated depression. Grew up to become an alcoholic myself and caused pain to the ones I love most. I fought the battle and now have 7 1/2 years of sobriety. Good for you, Ben, for coming out and speaking about your struggles. You’re helping more people than you’ll ever know.

Ben is struggling. He doesn’t seem confident. I quit drinking as an alcoholic since 2012, I had to train my brain and body to view drinking as poison. Drinking is not fun nor entertaining. It does harm yourself and others.
It’s painful when you hurt others, and have to own up to it. Ben was having that realization talking about it. He’s making the right steps and choices and it’s not easy....

If you truly understand alcoholism, you understand how soul crushing it is. It completely destroys your confidence and self esteem. It is really no surprise that he sounds this way.
The end of that interview really got to me. I hear and feel his pain.
Ben is a great role model as he is himself in everything he does, he's the best of Hollywood had offered us and i pray he stays humble as he is.

I’m a drug addict and I can totally relate to Ben! He’s so right, addiction is one of the most painful things you will ever go thru and the most painful part doesn’t even have anything to do with you! It’s your friends, your family, the people that matter the most who you are hurting day by day, that’s the most painful part of the whole thing! Knowing your hurting them so bad, but you just can’t stop
Pain is losing a child to drugs. In this day in age, anyone that gets involved in doing drugs knows what they're doing. You play, you pay.

For Ben to have this interview, bringing it out in the open is extremely hard step & He anxiously means it, you can watch his anxiety but is very important to own it, admit your addiction, that He is an alcoholic. That's the beginning of staying sober. But its hard because He can't ever touch alcohol regardless of what happens or where he is. I pray God gives him the strength to do it.
I have SO much respect for Ben. He went through alot a few years ago and now, he has been able to bring himself back and stay healthy. Incredible. Well Done Ben!

Repent of your sins brother and come to Lord Jesus Christ! You can get back with your wife and children and start fresh ! Jesus paid the price in full on the cross. You can sit and cry and do all the talk but action speaks my brother. You need to act. If you dont stop this it can become a generational curse. Get right with God and get right with your wife and children if you dont want them follow in your footsteps. That's my advice to you as your sister in Christ. You will find the joy as nd peace in your life like never before. He is real! I wish I could tell you how much joy is in His presence! It is beyond this world. You cannot find that joy here.
