Song is traditional (song often attributed to Brother Claude Ely, who copyrighted it in 1953 as “There Ain’t No Grave Gonna Hold My Body Down”). Song first issued by Bozie Sturdivant as “Ain’t No Grave Can Hold My Body Down” on the compilation album “Folk Music Of The United States: Negro Religious Songs And Services” (Recording Laboratory, Library of Congress AAFS L10, 1943). Song issued by The Two Gospel Keys (Emma Daniels and Mother Sally Jones) as “Can’t No Grave Hold My Body Down” (Apollo 137, 1948). Song issued by Sister Rosetta Tharpe with Sam Price Trio as “Cain't No Grave Hold My Body Down” (Decca 48154, 1950).
