Nice to see some bow hunting on Sika. Good call to go back and find it 2 weeks later. Dogs do help a lot when bow hunting and tracking your shot animal. Thanks Allan.
I have hunted Sika many times on Chincoteaque Island NWR off VA's coast. These were reportedly released there by the Boy Scouts who supposedly got them somehow from Japan over 100 years ago. Unfortunately the state game dept. has apparently decided to eradicate them in favor of the local Whitetail deer. They are rare today there, but satill hunted.Twenty or thirty years ago when I hunted them they were relatively common. I hunted them during rifle season which was after the rut. They liked to hide in thick briars and on little islands surrounded by water. After one or two years - I determined the best way to hunt them there was by drives. I almost stepped on one-or-two in thick brush before they jumped up running. They had a strange habit of running 50-100 yards before stopping and barking. If you waited that was a great time to pop them. Loved the meat - way better than White tail venison. Yearlings dressed out at 25-30 lbs. A bid doe was 50-60 lbs dressed. A big buck would be 90-100 lbs. Got more than a few jokes about me "hunting dogs". Always wondered how hunters in New Zealand compare the meat to the other game available there?

Hi Tom, Sika Deer meat is very nice, better than some of our other game animals species.
@@AJProductions-films - Any species you consider better?
@@tominva4121 I would give a slight edge to Fallow Deer over Sika Deer meat but not by much.
Hi there - are you the guys who hunted sika in Japan?
Hi, I have been to Japan for Sika about 12 years ago.
I’m researching how I can hunt sika there but no one’s seems to know if I’m able to hunt there. Are you able to share details ?
