I have fallen in love with your videos for some time now and have seen all of them but I want to thank you so much. You have no idea how wonderful it is while being in seclusion from and healing from the virus and to be able to sit back and watch parts of the world that are so breathtakingly beautiful it is a blessing. You actually feel like you are there also because you are both so talented with your videos it makes it as if we are right along there with you. Some of us will never be able to go to the places you have experienced and it is a pure joy to witness them and also it helps with us who are locked down and not able to even leave our homes. God Bless you both and thank you for your sacrifice you go through to bring us such beauty because we know at times it is very difficult. Stay safe and pleasant journeys.
Hi Guys! Thanks 😊 Great to see you are having fun down in Africa! Inspiring to see you are making the best of the situation 🔥 No green lights yet here back home...
Japanese infrastructure is absolutely amazing, their civil engineers have my utmost respect, they're always working on something, as you said, even in the most remote out of the way areas. Pretty much any mountain will have a road that's passable, you can go all the way to the top and most of them are very well maintained. That being said, one time Google maps had my try to bisect the interstate by going over a small mountain and the road narrowed so much only a golf cart could pass. I think only locals on their little trucks would use it and they probably never did. I had to turn my car around on an incline without driving it off the road into a ditch, but luckily I made it out. That was the only time. I've been to the tops of many mountains on Japanese roads, they're very reliable.
Wow, yes! The infrastructure is second to none. We have only been that far out and directly believe that everywhere in the mountains it must be like that too. Lucky you made it out of that narrow spot there 🙏🏼
I really enjoy your videos! They are well made, just the right length, focussing/summarizing it well, nice music choices, good explanations.....VERY GOOD !!! Greetings from Germany, Frank
Your videos make Japan seem like a wooded wonderland. Its honestly great being able to see these parts of Japan through your videos. Boy I wish I could go to some of these places you've visited!
Your observation on Japan's landscape is on point. Yes, Japan has a highly developed infrastucture of roads and highways despite its diverse landscapes. Not only that you and Maddie are great adventurers but you are both smart people with warm hearts. Enjoy your well deserved interlude from cycle touring. Thank you!
Awesome! I lived in Japan for three years and cycled it from north to south. Didn't get to explore Shikoku enough though! Just found your channel and looking I'm looking forward to watching all the videos of your trip. I'm hoping to cycle from Ireland to Japan whenever that's possible.
Hi Ciaran! Shikoku is worth an extra look, one of our favourite stretches in Japan. What an amazing adventure waiting to happen. All the best with your plans and we hope to hear from you somewhere out on the road soon enough! Thanks & Take care! E&M

I particularly love Japan, it's people, food scenery and everything it has to offer, I reckon it's probably one of the best and safest country to live in the world, if not thee very best ! You guys are soooo lucky to be there, it doesn't get anymore diverse and safer than Japan to cycle your bikes, happy trailers :)
Hi Yoga Master, it certainly is... It was the first country we did some urban camping. It's incredibly beautiful and diverse, one of our favourite countries of the trip!
@@WheelstoWanderjust to add, the most disciplined, friendly, kind and civilised people in the world as far as I'm concerned, I bet it's been fantastic to see all the different aspect of it whilst riding your bicycle :)
During what month/months did you make this video? Can you include the months in your video descriptions? It helps us to know what kind of weather to expect in those months. Thanks 😊
Again fantastic both. You're having one hell of a life, so very glad you're getting to see this world of ours. May your eyes repay your muscles, your clothing shield :)
Hi David! We like that one too! (we like all of them 😉) Very strange cycling into that village, never seen such a thing in Scotland... Take care and all the Best! E&M
Just found your channel and am really enjoying it. You both deliver great narrative and have an eye towards the odd little things that make up rural Japan. I ski in Nagano areas and a little bit in Hokkaido. I have also hike in Hakuba, Shiga Kogen and Myoko Kogen. You are so right, the fall is beautiful! Good luck from Utah.
Another great video. Seriously. Your production values rival anything you see on the Travel Channel here in the States. Japan is so beautiful. Do you shoot in 4k or 1080p? It looks great. That puppet town in Nagoro was creepy & cool. Not only do you have puppets of yourselves...now you’re Japanese tv stars! 🇯🇵 ⭐️ Ha ha. Definitely post that Japanese tv segment if you ever find it. Hope you both are keeping safe during this pandemic. 🙏
Hey Bike Tall, thanks so much for your wonderful compliment!! We shoot in 1080P, but looking forward to upgrade. We'll definitely post the video if we ever find it!! 😄
Does anyone know what species is those big red flowers that appear @ 3:33? A type of lily possibly? They're magnificent... I adore the bits of Honshu and Kyushu that I've seen, but Shikoku appears to be on another level altogether. So much beauty, you can kind of see where Shintoism comes from. Thank you guys for enduring some stretches of uncomfortable weather so that we get to see some magical scenery at its best (5:38, omg...) 🙏
We would like to know that too!! We didn't see much of Kyushu but Shikoku was really great, very wild and fairytale like. There's actually a famous pilgrimage (88 temple Pilgrimage) on Shikoku, but I believe those are Buddhist temples. The weather certainly added to the scenery... Luckily the rain wasn't too cold :-)
@@WheelstoWander I've found it, they're called "Red Spider lilies" (it was a lily after all), or Higanbana... abritishprofinjapan.blogspot.com/2017/09/red-spider-lily-higanbana-death.html
Arent this little breds Mochiis? Love them, Minutes 5:44 looks like from a FairyTale so beautiful! The Story from Nagaro is just epic hehehe. Your videos are so great Thank you so much!!!
Hello E@M, i enjoyed your latest video, apologies for not being a patreon at present, due to work drying up.Yes Shikoku is amazing, I spent 3 weeks cycling throughout, down to Cape Muroto and back in to Hiroshima, Also had to replace tent as it got shredded in Typhoon, lots of rain in July-Sept, Glad you made it home safe and sound. Did you get to Koch?i, it is beautiful. Be safe
We totally understand there are more important priorities at the moment! Hope you're doing well 😀 The weather can be pretty rough out there... But it certainly adds to the atmosphere and adventure! We didn't make it to Kochi, we met up a guy that we met in Tokyo, he cycled with us for a week on a recumbent, so we had to take it easy with the mountains! A good reason to go back...
You two are such an inspiration for cycle touring and reaching out to new cultures. Japan has alway been on my list to tour on a bike. I have been there many times for work and as a tourist, but you have given me great information on the joys of being there. If you were to choose a two to three week stretch (800 km approx.) where would you go in Japan. Hope you are somewhere safe during this pandemic. Thanks for sharing you travels.
Hi Brad. I did a 1000km a 3000km biketrip in Japan. So my first tour was exactly what you are planning. For a ~1000 km 2 to 3 weeks tour. I highly recommend Wakayama & Shikoku. Include the Shimanami Kaido if you can. Kyushu is great too as long as you avoid the cities. The key, at least for me, really is to avoid big cities! :)
I am Thinking of Cycling Shikoku and would Love some suggestions with Routes and maps ...What do you use? Totally wrapped in your Video productions top stuff👍🏞️🏁
Thanks so much! We kind of winged it. It was more or less a route that got made by circumstances. We don't really have the route written down. It is fantastic and I am sure you will be able to create a magnificent ride 🍀
