  • In this video I'll be sharing with you a couple of projects I've been working on, re-configuring my Acer desktop partitions to a separate root partition for the OS and creating a data drive for the Movies, TV Shows and Music, this will future proof future installs if I change my mind on the current installed system which is Peppermint OS now being a rolling release and very bare bones regarding applications I thought it was the perfect choice.
    Installing my PCTLC-Ezarch Gnome onto a Microsoft Surface Go which belonged to my daughter who no longer had a need as she purchased a Mac Book, the Surface Go has wifi issues and my custom ISO based on Arch Linux created using Ezarch templates was about the only distro I could find that would work out of the box, seems linux firmware has not caught up with the Surface Go with a lot of distros to date even the front and rear cameras are not working, hopefully this will change in the near future. Hope you enjoy the video.

    Really interesting Colin! I do like these real life examples of using all that tech in real life. With the trials and tribulations ;-) But at least your not being spied on (yet) ;-) Cheers!

    Awesome video Colin! I like to recycle computer stuff too! So thanks for giving a computer a new life... :-)
    (That explains my messy office! See it in some of my videos..)
    I enjoyed the journey with both projects. I chose Emby as my media server software. I just did not like Plex and I don't connect from outside my Pfsense box so I did not see the point... Lol
    On the Surface Pro I have a question? Did you try to use a Webcam for at least video chating? You did not mention that mate... :-P
    I use Linux Mint on my media server box as it does not change that often like Arch. I have my music on my main Ubuntu Server and use Emby to pull the music off of it. Emby uses local paths with not issues.
    I have been thinking of changing my Ubuntu Server to just a plain Debian install like EznixOS (HaHAHAHA) and use Webmin in a browser to run it like I do Ubuntu Server. I'm just tired of all of the Ubuntu craziness. Fact is, after LMDE 5 comes out of beta I'm dumping the Linux Mint Ubuntu version and that could go on the server as well... :-P
    Once again Awesome video mate! :-)

      @@pctlc Emby is a fork ot Plex and is a bit easier to use for me. I does 99% of what Plex does. They even have a App for you phones. I also works with your web browser at a ip address. I have been using it for over 2 years. Like other software ii use's the standard s01e01 (video) - (1980) format. :-)
      I have used that format (DbaseIV days) on all my videos for 30 years so it was a breeze to setup Emby. It does have issues getting the metadata once in a while and you have to run it down because IMBD calls it one thing and the title on the movie calls it something else or close to the same... :-)
      While a regular laptop uses a USB connection internal to the laptop for the internal camera, I was wondering of the wame was true of the Pro. Have never seen a Surface-Pro just just a bit of nosy thing... Lol
      Cheers!

    Hello heed help in my peppermintos update-manager icon disappeared from the panel how can I get it back ???

    • @pctlc
      @pctlc  2 года назад

      G'day radac robert, it seems the peppermint update manager icon is a custom made icon, you would have to create a new one, you can use the update manager in the peppermint hub to get by, I could probably create a quick video to show you how a custom update manager is created. Hope this helps for now.
