Now, if you saw a *dog* doing that you'd likely be right about the submission part. With cats, it means all four sets of *claws* can now come into play. Leopards sometimes do that to disembowel a larger attacker. Dogs on their backs are helpless; cats on their backs are anything but! :-)
I thought it was more of them saying "I know I can't beat you, but I may not have a choice but to fight" Basically taking defense before the fight even starts.
Frosty Life I'm getting a new kitty this Saturday and my Cat is 9 Years old, hopefully things will go well, I have a dog as well :D and she loves my older cat, when she was fighting another cat in my garden, my dog ran out and chased it of and gave my cat a little nose kiss, was so cute
Yeah they will end up friends. My little girl cat was run over at 9 months old :( Broke my heart. When I buried her in the back yard the other cat sat next to the grave the whole time. He knew what was going on and I think was sad for her.
Awww - the adult kitty is only a teenager himself and so so bad wants to play. And the baby haven't gotten the confidence and social rules learned by his real momma. In that perspective they're really really good in getting to know each other and become friends. Amazing.
Oh and I'm a vet by profession and that's probably why I'm so so dazzled by how well these two kittens manage to act socially and connect, and develop their social behavior skills as they go along. Great human-family they got. And even greater that the "old" kitty got a new kitty friend after this one moved from home with his own special human (the daughter).
wirina holstein thank you so much for the very thoughtful compliment. Our family has a deep love for cats, and after our old boy died after being with us for 15 years we waited for a while and then we finally got a sweet kitten. After he grew to be about a year old my daughter who is married got a kitten that lived with us for a while until they purchased a house. These two played so very well. Thanks again for watching and taking the time to make a very nice comment.
you totally made my day. Thank you for taking the time to make such a wonderful comment about my cat meeting the kitten. That means a lot to me. I love making videos and sharing them and upload something new every week.
Oh I just introduced my one year old cat to a kitten and I was making sure how calm they were was cool. They're just playing around like in this video.
Kodah is really gentle and nice for a male cat encountering a kitten on his territory. Only fake - slapping with no claws when the little guy paws too much or seems too agitated , like : "Keep your paws out of my face, you don't know how to keep your claws to yourself yet ." It always amazes me how cats are very well able to differentiate between babies , kids, adults, kittens and grown cats so well and adapt their behaviour and the "punishment " for one "misbehaving"....I've never seen a cat using claws on a defensive toddler or baby, as long as they didn't get severely bitten or hit... And yet many people , especially in the US feel the need to declaw them for their kids "safety" and their furniture .... sure, much better than provide cats with toys and scratching poles etc and teach kids body language and to respect others space and not harass animals.....and yet we wonder why there are so many idiots around....ugh.
This guy did a way better job introducing them than I did with all of my cats. I never gave them a chance to see each other through a door or anything. That was good thinking
these cats and dogs are lucky to have been adopted by this fantastic family. these animals are well taken care of feed, healthy and happy. ...stop complaining about This wonderful family being on their cell phones and the decor of their house, all that matters is that they saved this little kitten from starving and freezing to death outside. God bless this amazing man! he is my hero.
+Gary Pamatat that is the best comment. Thank you so much. Most comments we get are actually really positive and very encouraging which is why we have been uploading our family blogs and pet blogs for seven years. I love how people interact and provide positive feedback . Comments like yours really encouraged us to continue sharing our life others. Our pets are so very loved and they love us back which is even better
The kittens not really being submissive. He's adopting a fighting position and readying his hind legs for use. Front paws are primarily for grabbing, hind legs for tearing/gouging(fighting). That's why cats should never have their back feet declawed as it leaves them totally defenseless.
After 35 years of cat ownership my wife and I have always had good luck introducing cats to one another. Our most recent kitten took about 2 days to assimilate to the other cats. By day three we were comfortable leaving all of them home alone. Supervised visitation is always a good idea in the beginning.
Frosty Life We just got a new kitten less than 24 hours ago and he's already got the run of the house. Keeping him confined was not an option. He protested vehemently being isolated to one room so we let him out. So far our 10-year old female has been totally accepting of him, almost as if he's not even here. Our 18 month old big Tom Cat, the last kitten before this one, has been hiding as if he's afraid of the little kitten! He's such a big baby. This AM he finally came out and watched the kitten for a while from the safety of the kitchen counter. I'm sure he'll be fine in another day or two.
Frosty Life Update: As of today, about 48 hours into the burn, all is calm. Our big baby Luke is totally accepting of his new little brother and they're getting along famously. He's totally back to his normal behavior before we got the new kitten but with an aside: He has a new cat to play with! Our girl cat has remained mostly detached from the whole thing. To her it's all just boring! :) There's been no hostility whatsoever. Thanks for your comment.
Hee hee hee, little Leo is so ready to duke it out, and fight for his life. Meanwhile you keep telling Koda to "be nice" and Koda is just trying to play.
cutie....not too bad an introduction of a kitty to an adult....brought home a new kitten myself...walked in the door with him in my arms and was immediately met by older cat who sniffed him and immediately thought he was his daddy/older brother/etc....never one growl.....wished I had video'd the event... kodah is a little younger than our Sammy...you got two cuties!
Kodah was a shelter cat up to age 9 months. I don't know why no one ever picked him. Perhaps because he just likes to sit and snuggle. He is a major caretaker of ALL cats and dogs. He is so very loving.
in time they will best of friends. I have had many dear cats, rescues from family and friends. and every time they end up being friends. I sincerely love these animals and you have 2 very nice kitties.
Hi Frosty, love the video transitions in this one, kept me on the edge of my seat waiting for the next scene of kitty madness! All the best, 1 captive fan
I have a new kitten named Leo too. My older cat is named Monkey and I’ve had him for 6 years but he is my first cat ever. I had no idea that them being on their back was not submissive. I thought it meant they were being submissive by showing their belly so thank you for sharing. I learned something new from the comments too. It’s always nice when people are respectful and explain what is happening instead of jumping someone for not knowing. I watched this video because I was trying to understand the difference between cats playing and cats fighting (sometimes it’s hard to tell the difference) especially since I am new to how cats play. Thank you for posting. Your cats are sooo cute!! I enjoyed watching them meet for the first time.
Yes, I agree, the people who watch my channel are amazing, helpful, kind, thoughtful, experienced, patient, and encouraging in a very positive way. It is hard to tell the difference between playing and fighting. I got a LOT of great advice on my new kitten on many videos that I uploaded in the past 4 months when we adopted a stray kitten named Koho. You can see all the advice and the videos where Koho is pouncing and wrestling with Mason, July through November of this year.
A cat laying on it's back in a play/fight is not being submissive. It's getting in position to engage with a four feet. It grabs and holds with the front claws and kicks with the hind claws.
The cats are doing great it's been a little over two weeks now and they are doing great my more lazy cat still isn't too fond of the high energy kitten and tends to sleep on my bed all day but I catch her grooming the kitten every now and then which makes me very happy.
Kodah is so good with the youngster! My older cat and the new one did quite well when they met too. There was a quarantine period where the new one was kept in the bathroom. I was nervous about the meeting. Needn't have worried. New one wins over everyone in no time flat, including the dog. Older one is gentle despite being semi-feral.
They are so cute when they play. Loved th way the kitten backed out at 5:08. The kitten is somewhat similar to my Gretel, but quite a bit lighter. I've got bonded siblings so I didn't have to worry about introductions.
Gretel is a fantastic name for a cat. I love that. Ya, sib cats are so good together. These two are getting together again in a week and Leo is all grown up and really strong.
Looking through RUclips comments Just makes me Sad, everyone is a fullblown expert, everyone knows better than the uploader, and everyone feels the need to correct and "educate" Even though No one has asked for it.
Thats what usually happens on animal videos. Everyone is an expert and everyone has an issue. Although on the rare instance its deserved since he arse this up.
I like the video , I can see that you were so patient with filming them , and taking good angles in capturing . In addition, I like the way they are getting to know each other 😊
thank you so much for the very kind comments about my two cats. We really learned how to raise kittens to become well behaved cats and wish they would live longer because we have had many wonderful cats over the many years.
Lucy Kelly They don't look fine. If you'd watch other videos where people introduce two cats properly you won't see this kind of behavior. If cats act like this then they should be separated for a little longer until they get used to each other's smell.
Dakota was not being aggresive, but he was certainly being very assertive! There was definitely a little bit of "this is the rules of this house" in the playing.
From the look of the behavior signs Leo was having a slightly tense meeting. You know when a person is very passive aggressive and you are there just normally.
Youre only seeing what you want to see just like the dude talking in the video. The "bigger" cat attacks first cause cats talk before, even without sounds they talk with their eyes. So since the bigger cats attacks first while the one who is filming laughs like a child, ffcourse the kitten will fight back and even harder.
@@primadonna226 I'm not even trying to shame you with this, I just think its funny cause I've almost done the same thing. I made that comment 6 years ago. Six years is like a lifetime at younger ages. It's like the difference between 12 and 18, the difference between 14 and TWENTY. It just made me think about what other stupid comments I've made with this RUclips channel EVEN further back than this one. Wild!
That was sweet.... They did really good together for the first meeting... I have two cats here that have been together for 5 years and still cant stand to be in the same room together... I hate it... but they pretty much stay away from each other... one is my mothers cat.. and one is the one I brought up here from Florida.... I got her when she was only 2 days old.. eyes closed... ears down... that was scary taking care of such a little one... having NEVER done it before... but she lived... Her name is Gray Kitty... and I bet you can't guess what color she is.... I have another cat I brought up here with me... he gets along with Moms cat and Gray Kitty.... His name is Big Black Kitty... and I bet you can't guess what color he is...lol Good job putting those two together.... I realize this was a long time ago... but it was an awesome video to watch...
I have two year old sibling female cats and just recently rescued a stay female and they are still getting used to each other in hoping that in a week or so they will all be friends and there will be no more hissing at the kitten.
Emily Holcombe Very cool, it takes time for the cats to get used to each other. Every week is better. I praise them when they sit near each other and feed them a treat to encourage them to keep building trust in each other. hey, let me know how it goes for them after time goes by. Thanks for watching.
EARTH ANGEL 😇 THE little🐱one is so submissively aggressive, and that cute little nervous lick under the table is cunning! They are so cute together just trying to establish their territories!!!😍👍
My cats absolutely HATED each other when we got our 2nd one. I had to be right next to or holding one in case they went at each other. About 2 weeks later they were inseparable. They love one another so much now, cats are funny little creatures.
We got a kitten last weekend and now our older cat hates us, his very chilled and only wants to eat and sleep, the new kitten is a nut job and full of beans, I hope they get along one day
Cats can pout for a week or two, but give your cat some special attention and a few extra treats and he will return to normal behavior in a few weeks, as if nothing has happened. Our Mason was the same way, and sometimes still pouts, but I have learned to give him special attention now, which I never did before, and he sometimes appreciates it, and other times he pouts. I see him having fun with the kitten once in a while, and as it gets colder they tend to snuggle a few days when they think I am not looking.
Thank you so much for such a positive comment. I love making these videos almost every day now. We have two new kitties since this video was made, one in 2014 and one this summer.
Cat society is weird af. They be trying to kill eachother one second and the next they're happily playing
Cats are so mysterious and interesting for sure
Is your house also a Kindergarten classroom?
+ValiantSkyRider720 it is actually a daycare
Frosty Life i love your idea very original
I thought he was teaching the cats to read
I did daycare for 20 years in that space! Now it's a nice comfy, cozy living room. I love it!
Hahaha, provocative joker got owned ....^^ I bet someone silently choked on his own victorious grin, a bit ....
Kodah was soooo patient! I was very amazed. It seemed that he knew that Leo was a kitten. Both of them are very cute!!!!
thank you so much for watching and taking the time to write such a thoughtful comment.
That’s exactly how my cat was when meeting our new kitten.
I'm pretty sure he knew
Kodah’s such a good boy! He’s so good despite being a kitten himself
I agree with you 100% ❤ that’s first I seen a video of Leo. !
Poor Kodah is like, "Why is he freaking out? I'm being nice!"
hahaha so true yes yes sir he is a really good cat
lol
I love having cats. I have had at least one cat ever since college and they are so nice and quiet and peaceful and yet they are fun
LOL the older cat was like "This guy xD"
hahaha
+edy akhmad junaedy hes only 9 months old. hes barely even a grown cat himself
More like : " Uhm, what I am supposed to do with that thing?" Do we have to keep it ? It's a bit annoying.....uhm...dunno."
Laying on their back in this instance is the opposite of submission. He's positioning himself to kick his ars.
Elis Diaz dcc
Exactly...
Elis Diaz thanks 4 saying it 4 me
Let's get ready to RUMBLLLEEE, newcomer vs. Alphamale..... Fight

Gary McKinnon Put a cat in the octagon and it'll win by points everytime
My cat sat in front of the screen and watched this intently.
LOL it totally didnt go this smoothly when I brought home my kitten and he met my adult cat! They fought for months before becoming friends.
It is good when they finally accept each other. I bet your dog would protect your cat now if something tried to attack it.

Kodah: "ooooooh a kitten!! So cute! I wanna touch it!"
Leo: "fuck that's a giant! Get away!!! Okay I'm on my back ya happy now? YEOOWWW"
Lmao
LOL
wow, kodah might be one of the sweetest cats ive seen! i usually dont see kittens and adults get along this well from the start.
Kodah was a shelter cat up to age 9 months. I don't know why no one ever picked him. Perhaps because he just likes to sit and snuggle. He is a major caretaker of ALL cats and dogs. He is so very loving.
It's cute. And seems adventurous. Lovely. How can anyone not want to pet it , boop it and finger- wrestle it all day !?
"Dear kitten...."
Props to the kitten! Little guy was brave af
Cute Factor is off the scale!!!!! I giggled the entire way through this video. Adorable!
-and my cat was adopted from the Humane Society, as well:) I've had her sine she was 3 months old - in July of 2012.:)
Adoption of cats from the Humane Society has always been a very very good option for everyone I know.
Thanks very funny and sweet,
not sure if I saw a video from you with squirrels teasing the cats
4:20 Leo- "Wait let me just reshine meh claw.....- there we go!!"
laura Bullock that is so Leo. He is like that even as an adult kitty
Frosty Life :;D

I named my kitten after Kodah! I remember watching this video and wanting to add another kitten to the household! Thank you so muc
queen fie Oh way cool. I love that. It is a fun name for a cat for sure. I am very happy for you. Congratulations on getting a new little kitty.

Emily Holcombe that is a very good sign when they groom each other. They will play together when you are not watching lol, if they are like my cats.
ur doin somethin right 400k views. nice job. i love kittens.
What a sweetie the two will be best friends I know.
Cats reflexes are off the charts
That was a really good video, thank you. Kodah seems like a nice cat. Leo is aggressive with his little self.
I remember when my cat met a stray cat and it was a great moment. They didn't like each other though and stared at each other for over an hour.
Leo is going to run that relationship if he hasn’t already :)
awwww.. kodah is gorgeous...
Kodah cat is makes for a very good snuggler. He loves to snuggle with visitors.

The big cat is stunning! I love his colors and patterns!!!!!! 😍😍
+Addie Palmquist yes, he is part Egyptian Mau and is very very silky.
I think Kodah was the perfect cat toward Leo. Very gentle, not a mean bone in his body.
+tootz1950 Kodah is a cat that is a big bundle of love. Thank you for watching.

Thanks your cats look cute together. Mine are soon to be a year old - on July 4th. Hope all goes well between yours.
jewelmarkess
Thank you. I will make a video when they are together.
So beautiful!
I don't understand why this way is good for your cats! Really!!! Hello from Greece!
Hello, yes, it is good for cats to learn to play nice together. I have Greek heritage in my ancestry.

I love creating these videos. Thank you for the positive encouragement.
Dogs would be sniffing each others butts instantly. And them pals for life.
NVaizard and wagging their tails too lol
Kodah's all "God, kid, I'm just trying to play, don't be a baby."
lol
lololololollolol when Kodah "booped" Leo on the head that was soo hilarious!!!
What a beautiful pair of cats.
thank you so much for the very kind comments about my two cats. We really learned how to raise kittens to become well behaved cats and wish they would live longer because we have had many wonderful cats over the many years.
You are great with animals!
thank you very much for the positive and encouraging message. I love my dogs and cats so much and like to watch them learn things.
This was an absolute joy to watch, such a good cat you have. Well done!

Wild!
Leo has lots of will power
. And very cute
Leo certainly can hold his own. 😊 very adorable cats.
He grew up to be a very tough cat, and loves dogs hahaha
AWWWWWWWW SOOO CUTEEEEEE **EXPLODE FROM CUTENESS** AHHHHH
His name is Big Black Kitty... and I bet you can't guess what color he is...lol
Good job putting those two together.... I realize this was a long time ago... but it was an awesome video to watch...
That kitten is like a young ninja
i love the look on the kittens
I love the fact the Kodah doesn't take Leo seriously.sooo sweet and precious ♡♡♡
Kitten: *Meww*
Cat: Shut up *SLAPS KITTEN*
Its at 2:02
I want a category but my landlord don't want us to have pets. This is a cute kitten.
Gorgeous cats
thank you. I must say, I agree with you.
Frosty Life haha rightfully so :D
They are so cute together just trying to establish their territories!!!😍👍
so true
My cats absolutely HATED each other when we got our 2nd one. I had to be right next to or holding one in case they went at each other. About 2 weeks later they were inseparable. They love one another so much now, cats are funny little creatures.
Cute little guy. They'll get on well.
So cute
this happened to me because when we got our second old cat our kitten kept going coo and running away
Thank you, I think I will give Tinkerbell more affection, I won't take his growling at me to heart 😊 hopefully I will soon see them snuggling up.
Sweet little cats
Kodah looks really chilled with the little one^^ He's really amazing =)
thank you so much. Yes, he is so calm with all dogs and cats for sure
Pretty cool!...that little one is going to be a hand full!
You are right, he turned out to be very tough...very nice to people, but always looking for a fight.
I love those little playful boops where the claws aren't out.
I think he was laying on his back so he could use his back legs to attack 😂

Thank you so much for such a positive comment. I love making these videos almost every day now. We have two new kitties since this video was made, one in 2014 and one this summer.
