Totally agree about the conceptual element. Mike brings something to the table that goes beyond „just“ the music. Really excited for this one!

@@DTArchive Idk I feel like the two newest at least have a couple bangers while the rest I never bother with. I like the opener and closer of D.O.T. (Closer is among my fave DT songs) and the newest is VERY backloaded with the 2 final songs being quite good. So if thats any indication there will at least be SOMETHING cool on the new one for me. Regardless Im like a mega weirdo by DT fan standards the only one I obsessively love and obsessively listen to is the debut LOL. Idk man I just like 80s prog I also think IQ is a godtier band and I love Perfect Symmetry by Fates Warning. The 80s just had a certain vibe that I love hearing blended with prog.
Also Idk why Im surprised to actually see you in these comments given you're THE DT bootleg channel person and this is a DT update vid but hello lol

@@DTArchive Also correct me if Im wrong (cos I may be WAY off here) since youre a megafan of the old stuff and probably know better than me but didn't Mike used to be like heavily involved in song structuring? I feel like even right up to right before he left they would still pop out a godtier song structure/motivic flow and arrangement with something like Nightmare to Remember and that was maybe lost when he left so if THAT comes back thatd at least be a bit of a plus.

@@jamespeterson4275both comments are right on the money. What is with the turd naysaying DT fans lately... it's either the band is garbage, bring back MM, portnoy can't save them, JL's voice is smoked, the band can't do Metropolis 3... I'm HYPED to hear the new stuff. SFaM, SDoIT, ToT... that's the era I love, but I'm just glad the soul of the band has been restored

i completely agree with Jordans' point about something being missing without Mike. I always judge based on live and I did see them 2 or 3 times without Mike (and I saw the Winery Dogs twice and I saw them about a dozen times before mike left) and there was definitely a personality to the band that was not there without MP. MM was a great drummer, you cant take away from that, but there was a hole.

Yeah, Jordan, there was something missing without Portnoy. There was no egotistical, overbearing drummer who felt the need to control every aspect of the band. There were no stupid Cookie Monster vocals that destroyed parts of their songs, i.e. Count of Tuscany and Nightmare To Remember. There were no varying setlists on a nightly basis, which the fans think are cool but are very difficult on a band known for their complex songs. There were no sloppy drum performances on a nightly basis.
But we got our buddy back. I am starting to realize the gave Mangini the same treatment they gave Derek.
