Me too. I hate cleaning and wouldn't in the world understand someone getting excited and happy about a house like this, to me it'd be a nightmare that'd give me anxiety. She's helping me change my perspective and being more willing to clean my own house. I try not to make a mess first so that I don't have to clean too much, but I do have dust at home often and it can get a bit cluttered (never remotely near the extent of the houses in these video and never with food residuals, which would make me sick). My house is old with stuff from my deceased grandparents and mother, so removing things is harder for me psychologically. Some dirt in the kitcken has been sitting for years during the time we didn't live in the house so now it's really hard to remove and would just need renovating the whole thing, but I don't have the money to do it. Seeing her is inspiring. I did a big clean-up of my living room yesterday and I while doing it I was thinking of her haha. It looks lovely now :)

Some tips for fellow people with depression:
    1) identity some small things that make an important difference to you - eg, I'm usually barefoot, so having nice floors means a lot to me. I use specific mugs for specific purposes, so I like keeping those clean.
    2) set up something that you'd like to do - make yourself a hot drink and maybe set up a video that you want to watch, put aside a book you're reading, whatever works.
    3) do only enough cleaning for 10-15 minutes to achieve those important things for you. I vacuum the main traffic areas in my flat, and at least wash the cups I use daily and the bowl I usually use for dinner. Sometimes dishes are left, and I know I'm not getting all the dust and bits off the floor, but I'm getting the Important Stuff.
    4) usually the hot drink I've made has cooled enough to drink by this point, but is still nicely warm. I can immediately settle into the thing I was looking forward to as a reward and way to relax.
    5) if you feel like doing a little extra (finishing the dishes, moving things to vacuum more thoroughly, folding your shirts as well as your socks, etc), gently let yourself do them so long as it won't use up your energy reserves for the rest of your Important Stuff tasks. Reward yourself extra if you manage this, if you feel like, but always give yourself a reward regardless, no matter how 'little' you've gotten done.
    Small things always, always add up and make a difference. The 'little' things that you've managed to do are exhausting, but they'll take a big weight off your shoulders. We can do it. 💚;

Auri, I'm from Brazil and I'm addicted to your videos. You made me see cleaning as something satisfying and fun. I live with psychological problems since I was 14 years old (now I'm 22), and my mom died from Covid in 2020 so I started living by myself. It has been quite impossible to let the house clean, and as soon as I started watching your videos, I started cleaning everything around here. I'm grateful to you!!!

hey bestie, i'm very proud of you for showering and brushing your teeth! im doing a lot better now, but ive been in real bad places mentally and my bedroom has gotten real bad as a result, not quite to the level of these videos, but damn close (which is part of the reason i love this channel so much, she's so helpful to people ive been very similar to) so i wanted to share a little thing that helped me. i would get super overwhelmed, and i wouldn't know where to start and so it would get worse and i'd get more overwhelmed, but i eventually figured out a little checklist so i would know where to start. the checklist was, laundry, dishes, and rubbish. i'd take dishes to the kitchen, throw laundry in the bathtub or make a pile just outside my room, and get a garbage bag for all the rubbish. please don't focus too much on how much you have to do, trying to get yourself to clean 24/7 and not being able to is really draining, so for just a few days, don't have any intention to clean anything. just let yourself relax. then, plan to do one small task, like get the dishes out of your room, or just wash your spoons, then take a break the next day and spend your relaxing time thinking of another small task you won't exhaust yourself doing the next day. it is so so important to remember to relax without thinking about doing anything else. good luck, i'm rooting for you :)

The only thing worse than living in dirt though, is when people with a peachy life say you're just lazy and that you shouldn't use health problems 'as an excuse'
I'm sure there are people in the world who are just lazy and don't care, but mostly at the very least it's down to depression, even if they don't have any physical health problems preventing them from cleaning.
I have met a couple of people who genuinely just believed things like 'toilets are supposed to have shit stains' 😕
I find that's a good way to determine actual problems from those who are simply lazy or gross - the lazy/gross ones don't give a toss, those genuinely struggling don't want to he like that but struggle to fix it :(

Aurikatariina, you're such a positive force on this planet. You've found a business model that allows you to clean other people's houses for free, without exploiting or dehumanising them like other online or reality content. You're able to integrate sponsorships that genuinely teach people how to clean properly too. I remember the judgement from my parents, and sadness at things getting dirty when I'd give up and say "I guess that pot is ruined now". But now, I respect that it's a practise and expertise, and can use your so well timestamped video to teach myself too. This is environmentally friendly cause now, people won't give up and throw things away - they can make them like new. I can't believe you've properly subtitled the video as well, rather than rely on auto translate for those with accessibility needs (who are often going to be more vulnerable to letting their homes get like this with all of life's pressures!). So, not only is your method genius, but you're making the world a better place. Thank you. :)

I used all the tips you give in your videos and... well... it worked, but the moment when you apply water and dish soap on a heavily moldy floor, let it sit, and then use a scraper, and then STILL nothing comes off... you know that place has been neglected for YEARS - in our case for about 15 years, basically nobody touched it for about that long, maybe even longer. I eventually managed to clean at least most of it and i am so glad that your videos continue to motivate me to do this. Mainly since both of my parents are older and don't feel like cleaning or sorting out anything in the house as it is so old, filthy and just falling apart everywhere. @@erikherinek Dear Erik, with mould, you should use a mask. Mould and fungus can make you very ill, breathing in. As well with chlorine and bleach - AND NEVER MIX CLEANING SOLUTIONS. Certainly not chlorine and bleach, which are already dangerous. Some react together and give off really dangerous gases.
With bad smell, rub a bit of eucalyptus oil under nose, or peppermint oil. That will make things easier. And if you eat some ginger, and maybe put some ginger oil under nose, I know there is a study that shows if you eat ginger, you are less likely to puke or feel nausea..
Why not try spraying mouldy walls with eucalyptus oil? If you put eucalyptus oil on windows, and buff it, it really helps prevent mould on glass. So if your walls ARE ALREADY awful and wrecked, maybe concentrate on stopping mould?
Also, a FANTASTIC eco friendly mould and fungal killer, is a steam cleaner. But it doesn't inhibit regrowth, if new spores fall.
      Euc oil will.

The floor is eeeever so slightly inclined (Like, you don't even notice the incline unless you've got one of those balance stick things on the floor) in just the right way that the water will naturally flow down to the drain in the shower.
Explaining exactly how it drains took 3 paragraphs so instead I made a little map lmfao, the line that goes horizontally across is the shower wall and the / is the door. So the bottom right corner is the highest spot in the room. Was making the map necessary? No. Did I like doing it? Yes. So. Uh. Deal with it I guess? Idk

I'm not Auri but I hope this helps: Rinsing the microfiber cloth is a good idea, it leaves less gunk in the washing machine. If you only have a limited amount of them, leaving them in soapy water in-between rooms/uses makes them clean enough to wipe surfaces again. Do not use them for anything else after the bathroom/toilet though!
      You usually do that last.
When a sponge gets brittle you should toss it out, you can usually tell by the fading color and it not puffing up so much anymore when it dries. They also tend to get thinner since the material wears down :) Soak sponges in hot water and antibacterial cleaner after use and let it completely dry. Some can be thrown into the washing machine.
For home use its smart to have a dedicated set just for your bathroom, that way you don't accidentally wipe something off with a toilet sponge/cloth.

    Question:
Do you need to periodically replace or sharpen the scraper?
I have really hard water and my bathtub and toilet quickly build up thick, tough scale. I scrape it off with safety razor blades to avoid using harsh chemical cleaners like "CLR" or "Kaboom" as much as possible.
The blades are flexible, so that I can scrape at an angle without damaging the surface, as you said. However, the blades get pretty dull quickly. I basically burn through one per cleaning session. Maybe your scraper is a bit thicker so that it's not a problem?
    ___________________
Also, thanks for all you do! I have ADHD and depression, which means dirt piles up and then it becomes too overwhelming to tackle, so I shut down mentally, which just leads to more filth! The way you break down an area into tasks and provide straightforward instructions is really great! It can help break the cycle and make cleaning my home manageable again. I know it's "common sense" to break down big projects into smaller tasks, but for those of us with this issue, it can be hard to know where to start without guidance like yours.
    ____________________
I would suggest to others with ADHD that when you leave a cleaning product on a surface to soak, make sure to set a timer! If you don't, you may get distracted and forget you were soaking it. I've lost count of how many times I've done that, myself. With a timer, you don't have to worry about the product drying or damaging the surface because you forgot it. Otherwise you're just making more work for yourself!

When my grandma died, she left her house for her four children and 10 grandchildren to clean. She had a large country mansion and we’re a family of hoarders so it took all of us to first remove all our crap and then get to work on hers. There was so much dust! I was around 16 at the time and I remember I was wheezing a lot because I was breathing it all in. The problem was, we couldn’t just throw all her stuff out because a) she was a scientist who did a lot of research on phycology and the way children think, learn and develop so there were a lot of files that had to be looked through to see whether or not they were important, she had three studies full of files so it took a long time, and b) a lot of her things held sentimental value - what did I say about being a family of hoarders - like the letters her husband sent to her while he was away on his trip around the world.
The kitchen was one of the worst things (especially the larder). I’m not sure how to explain it so I’ll give you an example: she had a small cottage in Scotland and when we were there for Easter, she found a packet of prunes from 1986 (this was 2017) and she cooked and ate them. So basically, there was a lot of old food in her larder.
Because she lived alone and was 84 when she died, she couldn’t really get around to cleaning everything so there was about 50 years of dust and dirt. It wasn’t awful as my aunt came weekly to clean, but it was still not great - especially when we started doing the sorting which was a year after she died so the house had been empty all that time
Your tips would have been so useful!

As a taxpayer in the USA I wish my money went towards preventing homes around me from being a biohazard, or the yard from being a haven for ticks/snakes/hornets etc. It's never just the resident's problem, it becomes an ongoing problem for the community around them and then the problem of the next person to own the home. There are so many homes that need to be torn down or completely remodeled, not because they couldn't last, but because they're neglected and there was no community service to prevent it from becoming that bad. Who benefits from that? Why would I want half or more of my neighborhood to be falling down? Americans are selfish and not even in a self-serving way...

It’s very easy to talk down to oneself- telling yourself how useless you are if you can’t keep up with “the basics” - and your attitude helps to provide a different perspective. What I learned here is that the backlog of chores is not a guilty judgment in a court of law with a life sentence, it’s just stuff to be cleaned. 🤷‍♀️ And they way you approached the cleaning by being matter-of-fact and not overly reactive to any of it makes it easier to remove emotional baggage and just see the cleaning as a task. And by giving simple instructions using a minimal variety of products, you make it seem achievable. Thank you! New subscriber!
