  • Quick and dirty comparison of these two amps. I tried to remember what I played on both runs, it’s not exact but it’s close enough to illustrate the differences.
The cabinet and Shure MV88 mic never changed locations. All settings on both amps were the exact same, no pedals were used. For the clean tones, both amps volumes were set on 3, for the distorted tones both amps were set on 8. Volumes and pickups on the guitar were the same for both amps. The cabinet is an oversized ported 2x12 with Eminence Swamp Thang speakers. There is no post processing or volume matching.
Apologies for the fan noise, it was 98 degrees today and I don’t have AC in the garage.

Both very cool amps. The extra thickness on the Bassman fills out those clean tones nicely, while the Bandmaster seems to sound a little more open with more grind and sustain on the overdriven sections. The Bassman sounds darker with more bass, go figure! :)

The ab165 circuit is excellent. I can't believe people futz with them thinking they need to be modded back to previous pre CBS circuit versions. Foolishness.
