    IMPORTANT BUYING GUIDE: Media Company = A7iii || Filmmaker = A6300.
    Why I say a6300 for Filmmakers is because you need to spend that extra money on other equipment. A good prime lens, lighting equipment, sound equipment, ND Filters, etc. If you're making movies a6300 is more than enough and you'll find that the quality of the story you're telling is way more important. I do both with an a6300 and people are always impressed with the video quality.
    PLUS: A media company can make that extra buck fast so it makes sense to invest more.

    • @DjRosG
      @DjRosG 4 года назад

      A C if you can, absolutely get the a6600. There’s no time limit or overheating on it compared to all the other versions you just mentioned that all suffer from that. Better ibis too I believe. I’ve been shooting videos professionally for 3 years with the a6300. It’s overheated a couple times and I nodded the software to take the time limit off.

    • @whiteranger3863
      @whiteranger3863 4 года назад +1

      @@DjRosG Agreed, but now there's the Sony a7c at the exact price of an a6600 except it's exactly the a7iii with better focus and color.
      @A C, the IBIS isn't as essential as a filmmaker but this really all depends. It's certainly a little bit more work to get around limitations but for things like IBIS, I bought a gimbal instead of paying full price of a better camera and got a decent lens. For the overheating I use dummy batteries now that plug into a powerbank (HOURS of footage before it runs out + it took me about 1hr to overheat of somewhat continuous recording). But if you got the money, I'd say get the a7C because that is looking to be a promising camera. Not worth investing in a7siii unless your art is giving you $5k a month. You'd be surprised at how impressed clients can be with an a6000

    Love this video Tom! I’m also using the a6300 with the 18-35 sigma. Still really happy with this camera and the image that’s coming out of it. The only thing that bothers me sometimes is the lack of image stabilization and rolling shutter. Do you have any tips on shooting handheld with this setup (in 4K). Keep up the good videos, greetings from Holland! 🙏🏼

    everything is worth to switch as long u have money, I use both camera and if the 6300 get 7.5 the a7iii should get 8,5 not to far, and the prices if a6300 is 5 and a7iii should be 15 , and gmaster lens is more expensive than a7iii body. so its good to upgrade as long u have the money but if u don't have it or don't really need it I think u should focus with ideas and creativity.

    Great video. You mentioned the Tamron lens being similar to your Sigma 18-35mm when shooting on the a7iii. I'm in the process of considering the switch to the a7iii for the need of IBIS and I'm starting to take on more photography shoots and I see the a7iii could really help me in those two areas.
    What would you recommend as the closest lens to give me the same results or better (sharpness, auto-focus speed) than what I'm used to with my current setup, a6300 and Simga 18-35mm and MC-11 adapter? i really don't feel I need to switch, but sometimes I shoot concerts or I'm on the run and just need those extra features in my a6300.
    Thanks in advance for your help. I subbed, and plan to check out your other videos. Great channel.

    • @TomStreller
      @TomStreller  5 лет назад

      I feel you, my friend! As for the focal range, the Tamron is pretty close to the Sigma, you can zoom in even a bit more. It is also pretty sharp, good color reproduction and the price is decent. Other than that, maybe the G-Master 24-70 would be a good option for you, too.
      I recently preferred shooting prime lenses the most - especially since the A7III gives you this handy APS-C mode. Works great for me. And here I only shoot Sigma ART primes, since I feel they are the best image quality for the price.

    • @hiselectmedia
      @hiselectmedia 5 лет назад +1

      @@TomStreller Man thank you so much for the reply. Yes I've though about some Sigma Primes as well. Good point about the APCS mode. Could you maybe show some examples of the sigma 18-35 in apsc mode on the a7iii vs the tamron. Maybe I can still shoot with my Sigma and just grab a couple of wide angle primes instead of ditching my sigma 18-35.

    • @TomStreller
      @TomStreller  5 лет назад +1

      Don't have the 18-35 anymore, so I can't show you any examples, sorry! But I tried it and it worked as good as on the A6300. But personally, I would rather go with the Tamron to make use of the Fullframe sensor 😉

  • @peoplez129
    @peoplez129 6 лет назад +5

    A7RII is a better deal than the A7III. The only problem is it can overheat from long video recording, but for photography it's a beast.

    • @TomStreller
      @TomStreller  6 лет назад +3

      Good point but you need to consider ergonomics, battery life etc. too - and since the A7RII and A7III come in both for around 2000 bucks, in my opinion the A7III is the better camera overall.

    • @peoplez129
      @peoplez129 6 лет назад

      I don't think that matters much when you have 5 axis stabilization. A lot of the "safety" practices are no longer relevant, unless you're photographing a wedding and want to make sure you get the best variation of expressions in a given moment. For most photography, you don't need to take huge bursts of shots eating up your battery. If you're taking 1000 photo's and using less than 1% of your shots, you can probably up your technique and bring that to 20%, which would mean you'd use effectively 20 times less battery....and if you don't need 20 batteries, then obviously you can do with that one charge that you previously did with 2-4 batteries.
      The A7RII should be cheaper though, somewhere in the $1500-$1700 range. The only thing the A7III has over the R2, is pixel shift (which can be useless for any scene with movement, and negated by the high MP count of the R2)....and you might be able to get away with cheapo lenses, in the sense that if the lens can't resolve the 42MP of the R2, then it's not really going to have a massive advantage over the R2....but the R2 with a sharp lens is amazing.
      The opposite side of that coin is since it has virtually double the megapixels, you can more effectively crop. You can save money on lenses in that way by needing less lenses. So maybe you buy two really good lenses instead of 4 average lenses, which is going to matter a great deal when you upgrade to an A74 or something in the future because you'll have good lenses that can handle the higher MP count. A lens that is sorta sharp on the A7III is going to be very unsharp when all camera's are 42mp+, which puts a sort of short shelf life on these lenses. Lenses that do ok with 24MP today aren't going to hold up in 10-20 years.
      But most photographer's change out gear yearly or even every 6 months....I'm more of a long term buyer....and 42MP is going to be much more relevant in 10 years than 24MP.

    • @TomStreller
      @TomStreller  6 лет назад +3

      You realise that this channel is mainly about videography, right? All the things you mention are nice and true but are worthless when it comes to filming. Way better battery life, better ergonomics, etc. are a huge deal when filming with a camera so in this field the A7III is clearly ahead of the A7RII.
      This whole "crop in post" mentality just drives me nuts, it's the same with filmmakers shooting in 4k and crop all the way to 1080p just because they can't frame a shot in the first place.
      The ability of cropping is just a lazy tool when you are not able to frame correctly. And you also don't take into consideration that you choose a lens not only because of the focal length itself but because of the look certain focal lengths produce and their compression.
      There's nothing wrong with cropping a bit because f.i. you got your rule of thirds a bit off but to just make up for bad framing is.. wrong.
      And I don't think "42MP is going to be much more relevant in 10 years than 24MP", that just doesn't make sense.. or do you think that in 10 years we all are going to watch our photos on huge billboard-like screens?

      @@TomStreller thanks for the video - interesting comparison. I'm thinking about adding a Sony to my canon universe... let's see if that happens. Regarding the 4k shooting I agree nearly 100%....but :-) there's always a but. If you use 4k as let's say b-cam you nearly have also a c-cam since you can crop in and make the edit a bit more dynamic. Ideally you'd shoot with the right lens and the right framing, but sometimes it would just be an overkill of gear to bring. Other than that... best to shoot exactly what you want to have, with the right framing, otherwise you have to shoot twice: on set and in editing - not very useful.

    • @CharliePryor
      @CharliePryor 5 лет назад +1

      Tom Streller I’m one of those people that really care about it. It has helped in so many instances with non-fiction, documentary style shooting, especially in situations where I wanted to get right down low, and still frame the shot well. Moments like, for example, flipping the Glidecam upside down to get the camera super close to the road, and moving camera up. Keeping that framing consistent in a real-world situation would have been impossible without the swivel screen.
      It also goes without saying, that talking to a camera for the purposes of shooting yourself, is infinitely easier with a swivel screen. A fiction filmmaker would have the time to line things up and plan ahead. Us non-fiction folks love the swivel.

    good video
    When you record video in 4k in the sony a6300 the screen resides at half brightness.
    With the sony a7iii it happens the same?

      Nach der Begrüßung hat man schon gemerkt, dass er deutsch ist. Der Akzent spricht für sich. Die Aussprache klingt nicht wie ein native speaker.
