Am I the only one who actually prefers physical buttons over a touch screen? I'd rather have the tactile feel as well as no finger prints on the screen.
Good call this. My cousins daughter messaged me over the weekend with a list of about 5 cameras (different brands all in the same price range) asking which one I’d recommend, this was in her list. Not an easy question to answer if you’re not familiar with them all but having started out with the D3200 a couple of years ago I’d have to agree with you, very easy to learn with. This got my vote but I’ve yet to find out if she trusted me or the salesman 🙂
This video uploaded 3years ago, recently I have compared my canon eos700d to d3400 and the results were surprised me, this camera is called budget... Entire level so if you know how to use it even this budget camera can be a game-changer 70-185mm lens and d3400 costs around 450$ and this option would better by any means, btw thanks a lot for your priceless video
You mentioned getting the vr kit lens. Defo, the afp vr is absolutely excellent and negates the need for a faster lens. The 35 1.8 dx though is a babe.
I bought this camera in February 2017. It came with the 18-55 kit lens.,I love the images. The battery life surpasses any other camera. I have a 55-200mm zoom with VR and the 50mm FX 1,8G prime which is phenomenal. The camera is great in low light. Hand held stabilization with VR. The camera is extremely light. With videos I turned off some auto settings. Shoot in manual mode. Your shutter speed should be twice the frame rate 24 frames a second at 1/50 shutter speed. 60fps at 1/25 sec. just get your exposure right before you press the live view button and LV. Button. The videos will look cinematic Con: No mic jack. No wifi. But the Snapbridge has a firmware update in August 2017 and it greatly improved connection and speed. I have two yongnuo YN685 speedlights for flash. The camera does not do high speed sync because there is no control function in the camera for that. The flashes are capable of it, and the controller that came with the flashes makes it easy for off camera use. Great camera. Great video
What does high speed sync mean? I'm looking to pick up a dslr for wildlife photography, but mostly indoors with captive insects and reptiles. Would this camera be suited for that?
Grenville Joseph Higher end digital cameras have auto focal plane mode for flash setting. Most cameras will have a maximum sync speed of 1/200 of a second for the flash due to the shutter blades. But the auto focal plane with high speed sync allows you to shoot at any shutter speed you want. Matt Granger did a video on this subject ruclips.net/video/F9XTobumVZk/видео.html
I love this camera. I used the D3200 before this and have a bunch of FX Nikon’s and a D300s and I always grab these as they are so small and still give pro levels of control and resolution. Usually with the 35 1.8. I thought about going mirrorless with the z50 but thought rather than spend £1000’s I’d just by another d3400 to replace the one I broke and spend the difference on DX lenses. Thanks Ailsa for the lovely 3400 I bought on eBay from you.
I am convinced it would be a good choice for my needs as a beginner with this kind of camera. Used price is very doable for this slightly older model too.
I really enjoyed the video - you're definitely well spoken and quite pleasant to listen to. However I do wish you'd have shown us a bit more of indoors pictures/videos as they usually have a lot less light. It's easy to make a camera look good when the ISO is all the way down and shutter speed fast as you're outdoors with plenty of light. More interesting is indoor's filming in my opinion to judge how well a camera can actually perform.
Cheers for review Damian, looks a great buy to me. I am a little daunted by all the different bells and whistles on the D3400 as I haven't used an SLR for a fair while, things have moved on a tad since my Pentax ME Super! I also need it to photograph my paintings using a tripod, I presume it would be up to the job? Thanks again for the review really helpful.
Can anyone tell me how in the hell do you do rolling picutre shots with this camera?? Like if you're driving a car down the street at maybe 10mph how do I do that with this camera?
Hi should I gets this or should i get the canon eos M100, base on specification. canons entry level mirrorless camera is more advance than the nikon D3400, but my friends told me to get the nikon d3400 instead for better pictures despite having an older technology in it. will canon D3400 really out perform a M100? thanks.
i own this camera, i have had it since February 2018 and i absolutely love it. the battery is super good as well as all the other features
Nice, enjoy!

See, I do love a good button especially with a bigger camera. But I'm not too worried about finger prints myself.
I had strong accident today. My Camera Nikon D3400 it's dropped in Manchester Airport but my Camera no demage working very well👌 I love this Camera❤
It doesn't matter to me too.

Bought my son a D3300 last year and I love it. Love to use the 24mm f 1.4 G with it, a smash setup for taking stills on a trip, for street or candids.
Can't fault that. Big lens for the body but hey, why not :D
I had the D3300 years ago and that was a beast for a crop sensor, great image quality, ISO and DR so this one must be brilliant.
I like this... it's like an amnesty where we all admit we owned one :D I'm in good company!

Ha we shall see mate. At least you got a list, I just get asked "I want a camera, which camera is best?"

It’s a great little GR8 value kit that I have recommended to many first time camera buyers.
Excellent camera for learning photography.
👍
Agreed mate!
Finally, a demonstration of the video feature, with a video from the camera! Thank you for this

I think you'll be just fine. Especially as you'll practice with it on a tripod in stationery lighting!
Excellent review, very professional, thx.
Great video!!! So helpful with my new Nikon DSLR I purchased....So you won me over as a new subscriber....Thank You 👩🏻💖🤗👍🏻

Hey Damian! I've got the opportunity to trade my D3400 in for a D5300. I'd be sacrificing my VR AF-P for a non VR AF-S. What do you think I should do?
Solid video my friend!
Thanks a lot!!

Is there any way to use mic since no standard 3.5mm audio jack?
While is the battery life while shooting constant 30fps raw video without screen on?
exposure bracketing possible in d3400?
nope
one question: does thw camera have a flip screen? please get back to me :)
It doesn't.
no
Is d3400 good for sports?
It's not the best no. But I'm sure you could make it work with a fast lens and good lighting (outdoors etc)
D5600 is it good for me as a beginner ?
Non VR lenses can affect when shooting photos ? compared to the VR ?
overkill
the D5600 is entry-level for people who want to shoot video also.
