It's the only control they have. When they go home, their husbands run that household. Hell, a lot of those women don't even control their own money. White men are just as messy as the rest. They cheat on their wives, but they're discreet about it. That's how they "respect" their wives.

I honestly don't feel this is exclusive to yt women either. I hear this sentiment in the *Brown Latino community in the US as well, though we tend to be more explicitly aware of it. We have a fear of becoming the new Black people, so we have a lot of prejudice against Black people in a futile attempt to distance ourselves as much as possible. I've heard comments all my life about Black people bringing the Latinos community down, not because this is actually happening, but because we're trying to distance ourselves. And of course this is more explicit in yt Latinos attempts to distance themselves from Brown Latinos and Brown Latinos refusal to acknowledge Afro Latinos.

Then they are given a pass because, "that's just how they are". I remember we all strategically interviewed with other departments, some girls just went to other places of work just to drain our manager. She was so stressed out trying to do everything on her own and build a whole new research team. It was beautiful. She was stressed out trying to interview people in a hurry and post positions. We were all leaving so fast cause we were a small research team that focused on asthma specifically. You have to dry them out!!! @blablabarb An overnight change that could happen is that the media could absolutely today start reporting on these issues accurately, as the yv edit describes, instead of white washing every news story while pretending that racism, sexism and classism aren't the causes of nearly all of our systemic issues. Until you call a spade a spade, you can't make plans or strategies to deal with the issues at hand. Since media is created all day every day, it is absolutely possible for the humans who write these pieces to frame their stories from an accurate perspective. They choose to uphold the status quo instead.

When a child is born, they are exposed to their parent lifestyle. They grow up with those ideals, and it gets further instilled in institutions like church. This takes years, decades even. And it took generations to get to this point.

That was profoundly deep- it made me think about the black experience here in America, mainly how it differs from
region to region/state to state. In Florida, we have the added complexity of the Hispanic/Latin population and their histories that promoted striving for proximity to whiteness (i.e., accent reduction classes, going by anglicized names like “Joe” instead of “José,” Dominican Republic & President Trujillo’s campaign of “whiting” out the country and annihilating Haitians, colorism in Brazil, the migration of mostly White Cubans to the US after Batista, etc).
Most were considered as “White” in their own Latin/Caribbean countries and bring those same views to the US. And like white American women, they uphold the hierarchy with the hopes of maintaining their status and being “accepted” as white. They look down on black Americans and absorb all of the same stereotypical beliefs white Americans have, completely ignoring the history of slavery and systemic racism put upon black Americans (sadly, a lot of our black folks from outside of the US do it too).
It gives a better understanding as to how so many Hispanics and Latin people vote for Trump, even when they know his policies will directly hurt them. They simply believe, “well, it can't be me, I'm White.” Its not until they move away from their enclaves to other places, like North Florida, where the REAL white people live, that they get the shocked Pikachu face when they experience racism.

Latinos are very…different towards me here. I’ve met a few awesome ones like my friend, and a sprinkle of others. It’s worse than how some racist white peoples are. Very bizarre.

I am 59. I first started learning about the role white women, like me, play in the oppression of others a few years ago. It was hard to hear, and I felt defensive a lot. That's not me.
I would start to type out comments trying to defend myself. Then, I'd delete and sit with that feeling. Try to understand it. Try to learn what black women--and others--were trying to teach me.
I'm not going to act like I don't still get defensive sometimes. Internalized colonialism is difficult to undo. I had to deconstruct every lie I ever learned from American culture and education. But I mostly keep my head down and mouth shut when creators are willing to teach me.

This was such a good breakdown. And makes me think about, how for so long the treatment of BW by WW in workplaces. I think about how we have for so long been having this going on. Interestingly enough it makes me ask, where are those "allies" in "epic proportions" to support and advocate for the protection of BW? What about BM? Why aren't they demanding change and support for BW either? This is why I believe bw have to be selective with support on ALL FRONTS and that "you can't sit with us/gatekeep energy. Because If any of them wanted to they would --- but they don't.
When she spoke on "culture" and how they don't have one, makes me ask, if this is why they always hop from culture to culture acquiring "experiences"? Something about them speaking on and "sampling" the experiences and lifestyles of other cultures as if they are "experiences they can mesh themselves" has NEVER sat right with me. For example, I notice white men do this a lot with Japanese culture.

It's a biological protection that was built into us and epigenetically passed down from our ancestors who lived in small villages with people who looked like them because, when a group arrived to that village who did not look like them, they were most likely a threat. What we have to do now is acknowledge that instinct so we can reject it and base our judgment instead on behavior and actions.

I have worked with plenty of white people and found them to be fun to work with. I got along great with them even more so than my own people. But If you go somewhere and see white people and immediately get angry or defensive then of course there will be issues. Nobody wants to work with someone who will clearly be a problem regardless of race. I also know white people can be curious and ask questions. I had them ask me about my hair and things about my culture that they didn't understand and never took offense as I felt they just wanted to be more educated about something they didn't know about. And if someone spoke about something that was clearly a stereotype then I just corrected them and they usually responded pretty positively and even thanked me for giving them the correct information.
People complain that nobody tries to understand their culture and when people ask they scream racism and refuse to explain so they can understand it. Or refuse to correct misinformation and want to fight rather than educate.
Are there racist white people? Of course but you will also find racist Black people, Asian people, Hispanic people, Indigenous people, etc.

Also, you're conflating self-control and discipline with being calculating and suppressing emotions, which is what this woman was referring to. These women, are not controlling themselves as much as they are moving their angers and frustrations toward other people, people who are different from them and deemed 'lesser' they are finding ways to express their anger in indirect ways such as gassup and making people feel uncomfortable so that they leave their spaces.
