Kabuki is a freakin' legend! When Keiji Muto debuted his Great Muta character, he was said to be Kabuki's son. The work he did in World Class, UWF, and other territories is amazing!
Their finisher was ahead of its time. That slingshot clothesline wouldn't work today, but back then it was great. Who was their manager? Some guy who I think went on to wrestle. Wonder if he ever did anything........Hmmmm
Thank you so much for mentioning Battle Kat. For years, I asked so many of my fellow wrestling fans who grew up in the 90`s if they remembered him and not one of them knew what the hell I was even talking about! I even started to believe he never exsisted at all and I just dreamt him up
CrualBirab I don’t mean to be ‘that guy’, but he did actually say that it “sounds like” something from Thundercats and even as a He Man fan myself, I would agree and say that it does sound like a Thundercats character. I think it’s just a coincidence that the name was actually a character from a cartoon from a similar era and genre. I don’t mean to put you down at all!
I remember him because he was supposed to be in the Survivor Series that year in Detroit....I went to that one. He walked out of the WWE....bad move because he went on to never doing anything again.
It's not so much that he stole it...Muta was originally billed as Kabuki's son. As for being "better"...well, let's just say, Kabuki was best in regional days; Muta worked well in the post-regional era.
I was born in 1995, and I know these people by heart. And besides anyone who has the Royal Rumble, Wrestlemania, SummerSlam & Survivor Series (Vol. 1 and 2 only) anthologies DVDs should know these people before WWE Network started.
Big Bully Busick is an old friend of mine from West Virginia/Ohio area-He was a power lifter and City Policeman. He also wrestled in a few other federations before he retired and started a Security Company(and I think Bill Eady-Masked Superstar/Ax from Demolition was involved in that business with Nick Busick at one point) You can find him on FACEBOOK===Mitch.
Yes, the Ascension is on Smackdown, playing footsies with the Fashion Police/ Breezongo clowns. A failed attempt to try to recreate the magic of the Road Warriors. They desperatly need repackaged. Actually Steph, they lost to the Bludgeon Brothers about 2 weeks ago on television.
Pat Tanaka and Paul Diamond were a tag team before WWE in AWA called Bad Company. Everyone remembers Jon Nord as Beserker. Great Kabuki was a legend. Tenryu was a legend.
I bought the Beserker figure not so long ago. I went to Smyths and saw it, slightly danced a jig and ran to the till with it as well as the four horseman fighures. That was agood day. Next, Papa Shango
Literally a simple Google search would have told you that battle cat is associated with Masters of the Universe, and not Thundercats. For shame, Simon.
The point he was trying to make was that it “sounds like” something from Thundercats. Plus, he may not necessarily think it was an actual name used somewhere else and so he may not have thought to look it up as he was just offering an opinion as opposed to a fact.
If I know my wrestling history (and I probably don't), John Nord's Viking gimmick was a tribute to Bruiser Brody, the original brawler in furry boots who bellowed "Huss! Huss! Huss!"
Kabuki may have had an extremely short tenure in the WWF/E, but make no mistake, he was awesome! He was a mainstay in WCCW, and was a star all over the world. Much love for The Great Kabuki!
I remember both Thundercats and MOTU from my childhood and I'm honestly trying to figure out who would immediately think of Thundercats after hearing Battle Kat based on the name alone. He's expecting the audience to know who the Thundercats are (the original incarnation) but not who He-Man and the Masters of the Universe are, despite them coming from the same time period and him clearly talking to an older audience? I find that illogical.
I was about to say the same thing. There was never any character in ThunderCats who went by the name of Battle Cat. I fondly recall the green colored tiger named Cringer who was a close ally of Prince Adam aka He-man in MOTU.
Poorly researched video... Damien Demento's character wasn't a WWE idea. Theis wrestled in other promotions as Mondo Kleen, with the same looks, before joining WWF. Also, as "culturally insensitive" as Saba Simba may look (especially to our PC-obsessed society), Tony Atlas himself claimed that gig saved his life, as he was having a very tough time in the late 80s. Vince gave him a job for old times' sake and that helped Atlas to get back on his feet. John Nord had the same Viking gimmick elsewhere as well. Maybe not as irrelevant, but in its silliness, it kinda worked for what it was... The Japanese guys were part of promotional deals with Japanese promotions, and they weren't really expected or supposed to be much more than one-off characters.
My memories go back to late 1969 threw the 70"s. The greatest wrestler of all Bruno Sammartino.Don Leo Johnathan, The Blackjacks, ect. Just to name a few.
I thought that Al Snow played Kato as well as Paul Diamond I know he was Avatar so I'm surprised that gimmick wasn't mentioned along with Aldo Montoya the Portuguese man of war, you mentioned Jim Powers but no jumping Jim Brunzell
I remember Kato and Berzerker, but that's it. 3:28 I saw that, and I remember that move being so obvious and slow that my 3 year old nephew could have moved out of the way.
Damien Demento was in the main event on the very first ever Monday Night RAW, against the Undertaker. It's obvious that the only people who don't remember at least nearly all of these guys were born after their time in WWF. The Berzerker was a variation on John Nord's Nord the Barbarian character from AWA, and Paul Diamond, as many have mentioned here, was in the team Badd Company with Pat Tanaka in AWA, and also for a bit in ECW during that company's time as Eastern Championship Wrestling.
Nick Busick was a power lifter and a cop, that dude was a legitimate badass, and actually started with the wwf in the early 80s. He actually got a pretty legit push at his beginning, they built him up to be a monster. Then jobbed him out to... Wait google. THE BROOKLYN FREAKING BRAWLER OF ALL PEOPLE. I remember most of this first hand, I loved him when he first showed up. He was an old timey strong man, that worked damn well in NXT with the vaudvillains. He'd probably... Actually still be enhancement talent now. But scary enhancement talent!
Here are a few top 10 lists that you guys should do: Top 10 NXT Takeover Matches Top 10 Superstars who flopped in WWE but flourished in the Indies Top 10 Storylines of the 2000s
I remember all these guys. I specifically remember Saba Simba. I was watching the Saturday Morning show and the announcers were Vince McMahon and Rowdy Piper. Piper just blurts out..."That's not Saba Simba...that's Tony Atlas!!" I think Vince crapped himself and came up with a quick..."No...he changed his name..."...and quickly changed the subject back to Saba Simba...lol
Wow! Simon, I must say you did a great job. I thought I'd comment on this telling you about Battle Kat, but you didn't forget him :) Great work. I must say I remember them all... yeah, I'm old... and I was a total mark at the time. But I must say there's still a few guys you forgot... I mean, just how many people remember Aldo Montoya's run in WWF (before it was E)... he was a battleship, a Portuguese Man of War. Also I'd add Dale Wolfie and Brian Costelo.
Kabuki's story for the 1994 Royal Rumble was he and Tenryu were brought in by Jim Cornette and Mr. Fuji to keep Lex Luger from winning the Rumble match.
Not fun fact: Damien Demento was called Mondo Kleen and billed from Jilin, China before he went to the WWE Also, Jim Powers was my favourite enhancement talent guy back in the day. I loved that he got so much offense in and made you believe he didn't have a 1% chance of losing, maybe like 11%
Nick Busick is a friend of mine. Only a few are able to even get a chance in the WWE and he was one of them. He is a very just man. Served as a policeman in WVa. and Georgia. Fighting cancer now. He is remembered. There are stories about the ones on your list that people don't get to hear.
Dam big bully busic wow I remember him and the berserker battle cat I remember seeing him in the wwf magazine but never actually watched a match of his
If you are a true wrestling fan that is old enough to, you would remember most of these guys. Berzerker was around for a few years and he had a unique memorable look. Damento was on the first raw. Kato was Orient Express and they were around for a while.
Why all the hate on Kabuki? He was a big international star, and was a standout as a heel in WCCW. Fans of a certain age will certainly know who he is.
Jimmy Powers, good guy and good wrestler. He worked for me during my 9-year run as a promoter. Extremely professional and could give any wrestler a great match. Sad that WWE did little to nothing with him. He deserved better.
I remember all of these. I believe that Tenyru was brought in as part of a deal with SWS. A Japanese promotion that WWE wrestlers worked a number of shows for.
Jim Powers was actually a staple in the WW(F)E tag division for a while, when he and Paul Roma were the "Young stallions". Tho,they never beat anyone but local enhancement talent. They were the young, hype babyfaces that would put in a good showing, but always lose to other name teams.Powers was also one of the first true "Body guys".Huge and ripped to shreds.
I remember Damien Demento, The Berzerker, Saba Simba and Lance Cassidy; I vaguely remember Tenryu and Kato but the rest of them I don't remember at all.
Nord had been using the similar 'Nord The Barbarian' well ahead of WWE... if we think Viking/Bererker is playing it up to 11", he was a strong 8-9 on his own.
I remember all of them because they were so prominent in the WWE Superstars program...gramps and I only watched that program because we both have nothing much to do every saturday evening.
I ,weirdly, remember all these wrestlers.
same here. I even remember Big Bully Busick used the stump puller as his "Finisher"
Andrew The RUclips Noob I bet you weren't even born back then
Me too.
Andrew The RUclips Noob yep me too. Holy crap the early to mid 90's were complete crap in WWF.
NerdKiller I'm 34
Kabuki is a freakin' legend! When Keiji Muto debuted his Great Muta character, he was said to be Kabuki's son. The work he did in World Class, UWF, and other territories is amazing!
Big Bully Busick vs. Sid Justice was the first WWE match I ever saw. Which makes it remarkable that I ever watched wrestling again...
Gordon Armstrong wow true.
I actually remember most of these guys. Paul Diamond (Kato) and Pat Tanaka were a solid tag team. Former AWA World Tag Champs as "Badd Company."
Their finisher was ahead of its time. That slingshot clothesline wouldn't work today, but back then it was great. Who was their manager? Some guy who I think went on to wrestle. Wonder if he ever did anything........Hmmmm
I'm positive he did.
Ray Gowan: He shined like a Diamond.
Yup. They were pretty great. I miss Pat Tanaka.
They were a great non main event tag team
Damien Demento main evented the first ever Raw. #immortal
That’s pretty much his only claim to WWE fame.
Thank you so much for mentioning Battle Kat. For years, I asked so many of my fellow wrestling fans who grew up in the 90`s if they remembered him and not one of them knew what the hell I was even talking about! I even started to believe he never exsisted at all and I just dreamt him up
Yeah he had the black cat mask. He was actually pretty cool character
How can this be a trip down memory lane if these are meant to be superstars we don't remember?
Homer Simps IRL cause you might see them them and do that thing where you go, oh yeah that guy nostalgI
Arlo Steiner shut up
Jeffrey Jeffrey or what?
Wow. So knowledgeable
I’m trying to grow a beard like James Harden .
I would like to point out that the Battle Cat was not in Thundercats, it was He-Man and The Masters of The Universe lol
Well how could I be upset when it references two of my childhood cartoons lol
CrualBirab c'mon these guys were WC guys were probably born in 1992 or something
I dunno how anybody could forget Berserker, Damien Demento, or Saba Simba.
Never heard of any of them other than the legendary tony atlas
I I was hoping Mantaur would get a mention, then I remembered no one could forget the great & powerful Mantaur no matter what era you're from!
Battle Cat was He-Man and the masters of the universe, not Thundercats
Ciaran Murren yes that green tiger 🐯 who often covered his eyes when He-man was about to transform him with a swing of his magical sword
Cat.
Thundercat.
Don't be so literal.
Battle Cat was Wendell Cooley
The Orient Express in WWE was Badd Company in AWA
Kinda digging that Busick guy's look.
I remember him because he was supposed to be in the Survivor Series that year in Detroit....I went to that one. He walked out of the WWE....bad move because he went on to never doing anything again.
uhhhh...BATTLE CAT was from HE MAN and NOT THUNDERCATS!
How dare you!!, the berzerker was great!!, laughed my arse off at every match!
But no body else remeberd him
Bushwackers:D
Hus hus loool
The Great Muta was spraying poison mist in 1990 in WCW
Kabuki did it first though. Although I doubt anyone would doubt that Muta was the better wrestler.
Jonathan Garcia yep stole it from Kabuki.
It's not so much that he stole it...Muta was originally billed as Kabuki's son. As for being "better"...well, let's just say, Kabuki was best in regional days; Muta worked well in the post-regional era.
hardkorehak that is correct, muta is one of my all time favorite wresters. I think they had one match together, if I remember correctly.
Look at the big brain on Jonathan. Nevermind, look at the small brain on Jonathan.
No one remembers because most of you're subscribers were born after 2002
Lil J your*
Lando R I use Talk to Text blame Samsung
Lil J ha so you were born in 2001 like me
Jerry Memes I wish
I was born in 1995, and I know these people by heart. And besides anyone who has the Royal Rumble, Wrestlemania, SummerSlam & Survivor Series (Vol. 1 and 2 only) anthologies DVDs should know these people before WWE Network started.
I had a old vhs tape with damien demento vs razor ramon
Skinner anyone?? No ?
yeah remember him
If she'd debuted a few years back then it's almost guaranteed that Sarah Logan would be billed as Skinner's daughter 😂
Yes we know him
macca covi Steve Kern, he was later one of the guys that portrayed Doink the Clown
Skinner was cool too.
I actually remember most of these guys...
That was not Tenryu in that picture using the Scorpion Death Lock. That was Choshu.
Who doesn't remember Demento, Berzerker or Kabuki?!
Me
Remember The Ascension?
Stephanie McMahon uh, yeah?
Stephanie McMahon I member.
Who
The Smackdown jobbers? Sure, but I liked them much better as the Road Warriors
Don’t assume we wouldn’t remember these wrestler gimmicks. I remember all these wrestlers
If I remember correctly, Bret Hart’s first title defence was against the Berserker!
Paddy Outback nice job looking that up
Bobby Or maybe I remember watching it as a kid. Good thing I don’t care what you think, mate 😘
He was a 'tribute' or more accurately a ripoff of Bruiser Brody.
Paddy Outback gday mate
I remember that!
Pat Tanaka and Paul Diamond were a tag team before WWE in AWA called Bad Company. Everyone remembers Jon Nord as Beserker. Great Kabuki was a legend. Tenryu was a legend.
I remember The Berserker and that miss sword stab. Jim Powers deserved a much better push than he ever gotten as well.
Who the hell doesn't remember the Berserker?!
The Bezerker is hugely memorable. Dude used to do a hilarious spot where his legs got kicked out and he’d do the splits
Cue the person stating, "Oh I knew all of these".
How could anyone forget them?
Everyone remembers Saba Simba, Berzerker, and Jim Powers who was great by the way. I remember all of them except Lance Cassidy.
I bought the Beserker figure not so long ago. I went to Smyths and saw it, slightly danced a jig and ran to the till with it as well as the four horseman fighures. That was agood day. Next, Papa Shango
You know it. I Wouldn't of bothered otherwise. I only buy the proper Elite figures. They are usually the best ones
Damien Demento looks a lot like the Missing Link (btw - Battle cat was from He-Man not Snarf from Thundercats).
I wish I wouldn't remember Roman Reigns.
Julia K. Same
good for you
Julia K. Youre beautiful
We all want to forget
Same
I loved the great kabuki when i was a kid...i don't remember much but I always thought his face paint and mist were cool.
Huss! Huss!"
Every time WhatCulture has a list of people I "totally don't remember" I always do. Might be worth changing the titles of these...
Damien Demento, his youtube rants are comedy gold.
next video title 10 superstars who have sworn
thanasis xouc wrong channel go comment on best trends vid
Sworn what?
thanasis xouc BTW kid you should check out an era named the Attitude Era and especially check out my personal fav Stone Cold Steve Austin
Kabuki may have had an extremely short tenure in the WWF/E, but make no mistake, he was awesome! He was a mainstay in WCCW, and was a star all over the world. Much love for The Great Kabuki!
I *knew* Simon was a black kid, could just tell
Damian Demento was in the 1st main event of Raw. Your argument is in valid
Still doesn't mean he was anything but a midcarder, by the way. Who took the win on that match.
Manic Scarecrow yes Taker won but that doesn’t mean that no one remembers DD
Um why the hell you mentioning Thundercats? BattleCat was a Masters of the Universe (He-Man) character smh seriously?
I think he's meaning because Battle Kat the wrestler is a human 'cat'.
Who cares?
Michelle Lincoln you can't expect a bloody red coat to get shit right
I remember 5 out of the 10 superstars you had mentioned and I'm only 11. That Means Something !

The Japanese guys were part of promotional deals with Japanese promotions, and they weren't really expected or supposed to be much more than one-off characters.
Nord The Barbarian
Anyone else remember Friar Ferguson? Just me? Exactly.
My memories go back to late 1969 threw the 70"s. The greatest wrestler of all Bruno Sammartino.Don Leo Johnathan, The Blackjacks, ect. Just to name a few.
Wimpyguy Wimp I remember the Superstar and the Super Destroyer from Georgia championship wrestling.
Paul Diamond was from Yugoslavia, he and Tanaka won the AWA Tag-titles at one point and also worked in Stampede Wrestling.
5:03 "wildly enthusic baby faust cowboy". Way to nail the line, Simon. Seriously though, I'm a fan of Simon's but how did that slip past editing?
The Great Kabuki went to Japan and had a match against The Great Muta
I thought that Al Snow played Kato as well as Paul Diamond I know he was Avatar so I'm surprised that gimmick wasn't mentioned along with Aldo Montoya the Portuguese man of war, you mentioned Jim Powers but no jumping Jim Brunzell
I remember Kato and Berzerker, but that's it.
3:28 I saw that, and I remember that move being so obvious and slow that my 3 year old nephew could have moved out of the way.
The only memorable things about Big Bully Busick is that he put over Sid in a squash match, and got beaten by Countout by The Brooklyn Brawler
Here are a few top 10 lists that you guys should do:
Top 10 NXT Takeover Matches
Top 10 Superstars who flopped in WWE but flourished in the Indies
Top 10 Storylines of the 2000s
I remember all these guys. I specifically remember Saba Simba. I was watching the Saturday Morning show and the announcers were Vince McMahon and Rowdy Piper. Piper just blurts out..."That's not Saba Simba...that's Tony Atlas!!" I think Vince crapped himself and came up with a quick..."No...he changed his name..."...and quickly changed the subject back to Saba Simba...lol
Ironically, while I don't remember Battle Kat, I DO remember Brady Boone, and had wondered whatever happened to him.
Berzerker's "rallying cry" was a Tribute to his former Partner Bruiser Brody who used the "Huss" for years before.
I do actually remember all of them.
I remember all of them..................
I did too.
Kabuki's story for the 1994 Royal Rumble was he and Tenryu were brought in by Jim Cornette and Mr. Fuji to keep Lex Luger from winning the Rumble match.
I don't know why, but I actually do remember Damien Demento and that match where Berserker tried to murder the Undertaker
"Saba Simba" is leaps and bounds greater than the majority of gimmicks currently in the WWE, at least that gimmick had SOME character
Not fun fact: Damien Demento was called Mondo Kleen and billed from Jilin, China before he went to the WWE
Also, Jim Powers was my favourite enhancement talent guy back in the day.
I knew the berserker
Lee Bishop yeah, same
I’m a pro wrestling fan since 1990. I remember the good the bad and the awful. keep up theses lists.
Woah, Woah, Woah, Woah ... WOAH!!!! BATTLECAT was He-Man ya fool!
Pat Tanaka and Paul Diamond had previously teamed up together as Badd Company in the AWA. And were managed by Diamond Dallas Page.
I remember the Bezerker, Kato and Simba.
Fans of a certain age will certainly know who he is.
i thought you guys said you WONT remember? i remembered all of these guys.
Kabuki was around in the 70's & 80's, most WWE wrestlers have their gimmick chosen for them by the promotion.
Battle Cat is from Heman not The Thundetcats! Come on, Simon do you even cartoon?
IamGulzow
Its a children's show.
Look, the kids that that show was made for are now grown and so it's okay for adults to argue childishly about it.
I'm never getting any younger
*BUT WITH TURBOTAX*
Berzerker's "stupid rallying cry" came from Bruiser Brody. That hand motion and everything. Brody even gave him permission to use it, before he died.
Mr Fuji brought Great Kabuki in WWE and payed him to make sure Lex Luger didn't win the 1994 royal rumble
The weird thing about the Orient Express is they used to be Bad Company when Diamond where a mask.
battle cat is from he-man, not thundercats
Jimmy Powers, good guy and good wrestler. He worked for me during my 9-year run as a promoter. Extremely professional and could give any wrestler a great match. Sad that WWE did little to nothing with him. He deserved better.
I remember all of these.
I believe that Tenyru was brought in as part of a deal with SWS. A Japanese promotion that WWE wrestlers worked a number of shows for.
I remember 8 out of 10. I have no recollection of Lance Cassidy or Battle Kat.
Paul Diamond and Pat Tanaka were a great team. They were known as Badd Company in AWA and were champions. DDP was there manager.
You're wrong : I remember everyone on this Video. I like the " Big Bully Busick " Character a lot
I have to admit I started to enjoy how Simon says WCW
Nick the Bully Busick is from my home town. It wasn't abnormal to see him just walking around
simon should just do an ______era history show for this channel, would love it
Jim Powers was actually a staple in the WW(F)E tag division for a while, when he and Paul Roma were the "Young stallions". Tho,they never beat anyone but local enhancement talent. They were the young, hype babyfaces that would put in a good showing, but always lose to other name teams.Powers was also one of the first true "Body guys".Huge and ripped to shreds.
Damian Dimento-The answer to the "Who Main Evented Raw 1 with Undertaker? Question.
I remember Damien Demento, The Berzerker, Saba Simba and Lance Cassidy; I vaguely remember Tenryu and Kato but the rest of them I don't remember at all.
The only one on this list I remembered was Damien Demento. Where the hell was I for the rest of these guys?
You say the black guy dressed as a African is racist but when a white person dressed as a Viking it isn’t ?
Please more bad and forgotten storylines. They're great!
I totally forgot about these guys but now I totally remember.
