This song is about the last Korean Empress Myeong Seong who had been murdered by the Japanese soldiers in 1895. It reminds many Koreans of their sorrows about the sad history that Korea was invaded and tortured by Japanese imperialism. but japan have denied that fact until now even though the sword used to kill her is on display in a japan's temple.
This is why it's difficult to get familiar with Japan.

This song has background of Korea's tragic history. When Japan invaded Korea, Japanese bratally murdered the last Chosun dynasty queen.
And the song was made by a Korea who estimated the feelings of the qeen at that time.
That's why it's a sad song for Koreans.
