What if Harvester of Sorrow was on St. Anger?

  • My first ever video. I do NOT own anything. This video was made for entertainment and no copyright infringement is intended.
    Anyways, I’m really inspired to join the scene of Metallica album crossovers. I wanted to do something more than just transpose the song to Drop C and put in the dreaded St Anger snare. I thought it would have almost all different riffs and frequent time signature changes, as well as Papa Het’s aged voice. I know it’s possible to transpose vocals without making them sound weird but I haven’t figured that out yet. Please be brutally honest with your comments and thanks so much for listening!

      Although I must ask, what do you think the bass intro would turn into on St. Anger? Not only is the bass barely audible on any part of the album, but there’s no way the guys would give Bob Rock that big of a role in the songs. Do you think maybe it would just turn into a lead guitar part?
      Edit: I DIG the idea, and I’m already working on demos for it.

    dang, this sounds really good. you managed to capture the vibe of st anger. trash can snare and all. I love this sub genre of the metallica fandom, where people do fun what if remixes of certain songs. I would also love people from this side of the fanbase to maybe do remixes of video game songs. like for example, i've recently started wondering how big shot from deltarune would sound like on ajfa, as that song is fast paced which is perfect for ajfa's style. also, you somehow managed to make harvie sound heavier, which is a huge accomplishment in my eyes.

    Ey that ain't bad for your first time!
    I can provide you with some points that could help you out:
    - Take into consideration of the whole final mix. Try and get each instrument to be as levelled with each other 'cuz the drums are drowning in the mix
    - Speaking of drums, try to get every part of the drums levelled to ('cept for the snare. Cuz y'know, trash can). And if you wanna get rowdy, you can really play around with dynamics of the drums to give it a lively feel.
    - You'll love EQ mixing when you get used to making songs. Learn the different eq spectrums of an EQ graph and see how you can mix songs much better (heck. You can even mix st. anger to sound much better, but get ready for the comments if that does happen)
    - At various parts of the track, I can hear slight cuts in-between parts. You can try to clean that up a bit. It'll sound much cleaner.
    - I'm not much of a St. Anger fan, but when you're gonna make other songs, you can go for more variations of riffs. I believe st anger doesn't have a lot of riffs in a song so I guess that's fine.
    - Ah, the vocals. Search up this keyword 'formant shift'. You can thank me later.
    That's pretty much it. Honestly, I can't even come up with that for a first-timer! Nice job man! Keep it up \m/

    • @AnthonySpecialeJr

    I can’t find where the comment went that asked. But for anyone wondering, I didn’t use any special “extracting” software to get these vocals. The original AJFA harvester vocals cannot be found anywhere. In fact, the only two available true Metallica vocal tracks you can get anywhere for this song, is Nimes 09, and some other performance in 1991. Obviously Nimes 09 is much closer to St Anger James than 91 when he was arguably still in his prime. They are already autotuned when you find them (no idea who thought it was a good idea to use Autotune in metal) and sound like poo only because I had no idea how to formant shift when I made the project. The vocals are performed in Eb and were transposed 1.5 steps down to C, giving them the awful nasal effect that I didn’t know how to fix at the time. Hope this helps!

    • @operationthrash9645
      @operationthrash9645  3 года назад

      @ubp productions Thanks for your questions! And I wish there was an easy way to “extract” vocals like that. I don’t want to say it’s impossible, but next to impossible for sure. For now, we can only get original vocal tracks for Metallica songs that were on guitar hero, plus a handful more that I have no idea how people got their hands on.

    • @operationthrash9645
      @operationthrash9645  3 года назад

      @ubp productions I guess long story short, if you want to do this with a song and can’t locate the original vocals, see if there’s a live performance that has the vocals available. Maybe an acoustic session that has them. Example, the only other good reliable source for Metallica is the S&M 1 performance. If not, as a last resort, the closest to manual extracting I’ve ever gotten was with a program called Melodyne. It was still muddy at best, but not bad for a last resort.

The website with the download claims it’s straight from Frantic’s drum track, but even after the thousands of times I’ve listened to the song I can’t catch it. The only snare hit in the entire song that’s even remotely close to this abomination of a sound I downloaded, is in the rapid snare hits in the intro. And yes, it is BEYOND horrible lol. It’s one thing to have a high pitched snare with the wires off, it’s another thing entirely to hit a freaking manhole cover with a shovel lmao.
      Oh and by the way this is after some slight editing. If you could believe it, it was even worse before.

    Oh come on, the trash can snare on the album did not sound as shrill and tinny as this!

      Exactly, the one on the album is more of a coffee can. This is more of a baseball bat on a vending machine

    The things that you need to make a St.anger:
    A piece of tin for the drum
    An Electric guitar but you need just E A and D string
    A manager who playing bass
    The worst ever drummer in the world
    A rhythm guitarist who just plays E A and D strings
    A solo guitarist who never play solo

      Or in my case- a guitarist who’s legitimately incapable of playing solos 👌
