Such a beautiful song; I've always loved it! Thank you so much for this great musical performance, and all the other wonderful music you have been giving us today! I believe this completes the uploading of all of Tony Bennett's '70's performances on the Sullivan show. Now let's hope for the rest of his '60's and early '50's appearances.
Beautiful... Takes me back in time when I first saw the movie "Love Story." Perched on the sofa with a box tissues and both of my brothers staring at me just waiting for the water works to begin. Ultimately they would both start laughing. I wouldn't mind being perched on that sofa right now, with my brothers both staring at me. Really miss those days sometimes. Thanks you for sharing... gave me that same feeling today... as it did back then. 💖
Descubri a T. Bennett cuando vivia en La Pampa y escuchaba una radio de Chile que no hacia descargas. (las nuestras de Bs As. casi no se podian escuchar.). El mundo ha perdido al mas grande cantante y a una gran persona.
A bit of drama with Tony & this song. Columbia records released his version and Andy Williams' version about the same time this show aired. Radio stations primarily chose Andy Williams' version because Andy was still active on the Hot 100 chart and visible on TV with his variety show. Therefore, Andy would debut on the Hot 100 with his version a month later and ended up with his first top 10 single in 8 years. Somewhat of a missed opportunity for Tony.
Great story! But I think AW had top 10’s throughout the 60’s, depends what chart you look at (including Hot 100). Anyway, both super versions and great to see TB here once again. More please! :)
@@makthnife - Everything in my post represents Hot 100, which encompasses all airplay & sales activity. The last time AW had a top 10 single on the Hot 100 prior to "Love Story" was "Can't Get Used To Losing You" in 1963. You are probably thinking about the AC chart, where he was a mainstay in the top 10 throughout the 60s.
@@gregglienna1442 matter of opinion, friend. But to your point, TB had training in a different style of singing (bel canto) whereas AW didn’t have formal training (that I’m aware of). But experience is a great education! And in that department AW had a PhD! Anyway, TB is great, lucky to see him at Ravinia outside Chicago years back.
Andy Williams has a beautiful voice and maybe a more “easy listening” rendition, like the ones of “The Shadow of Your Smile” and “Moon River”, but Tony Bennett is incomparable. The best among the best in my opinion.
RIP Mr Tony Bennett Legend
How you are missed, Signore Benedetto. Rest in Sweet Peace

He gives me some Rodney Dangerfield vibes here. Love them both!
Champ voice. Kent
❤️❤️
Tony was a master at phrasing and timing, had a timeless voice, but Andy had the definitive version of the theme from LS.

Tony was the better singer.
@@shyman99 ahh, I think you’re right. My bad! Complicated business, music is…
Thx for the clarification. Cheers!
