The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

Like a fine wine, he just got better with time. TB was born to entertain. I never get tired of listening to his God given talent. RIP Tony !!!
I saw him live in OKC, Nov. 1998. A great memory and through an amazing circumstance, got to say hi after the show. I got a signed CD, too!
God bless Tony Bennett.
Now this music. Love ya Tony Bennett ❤️
I love this channel's new approach of including full segments instead of delivering them in pieces. Keep up the good work ES channel!
Exactly 👍 What I Was Thinking!
Tony is my favorite crooner
A big salute to the last of the Italian crooners rest in peace Mr. Bennett.
Fantastic!! May God bless Tony and his family.
Long time ago. Always have enjoyed TB.
This is the era of music that I grew up with, as a child, and I'm not mad about it!🙏💖🙏
Same here and unapologetic about it!
Another great video and performance of Tony Bennett , thanks. You can differently tell it was the late sixties when you see a women going into a High Dollar venue wearing a mini-skirt. Tony looked happy to be on the show.
Have a nice day.

A full Tony Bennett performance; this is fantastic! In August 1969, a month before this appearance, Tony released his album, "I've Gotta Be Me" which included the title song and "What the World Needs Now is Love", both of which he is singing here. Tony's recording of "I've Gotta Be Me" was released as a single and charted at 29 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart in September. His recording of "People" from the musical "Funny Girl" had been released as a single earlier in the year and had charted at 27 on the same chart.
"What the World Needs Now is Love" was written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David, and had been a number 7 hit for Jackie DeShannon on the Hot 100 in 1965.
"I've Gotta Be Me" was written by Walter Marks and was a number 1 hit for Sammy Davis Jr. on the Contemporary chart (11 on the Hot 100) in 1969.
"People" was written by Bob Merrill & Jule Styne and was a number 1 hit for Barbra Streisand on the Contemporary chart (5 on the Hot 100) in 1964.

@@that70sgirl90 You're welcome! It's always good to hear from you!

What a crescendo! Tony was one of those great singers who was on all the variety shows.
Classic
In the early 50's - he was told that he didn't have a prayer in being successful - because Rock and Roll is making an headway. All he did since then was performing in sold out crowds.
It seems so terribly unfair the alzcheimer disease he suffers with😢😢😢. He brought so much joy with his great musical experience. God Bless you Tony. Thanks for all the music 🎶 🎵 😢
He's accomplished so much in his wonderful career that spanes over many decades. He's a fantastic entertainer, and he entered the Guinness book. Wonderful video!
Happy Father's Day! ❤️💜💙
Happy Sunday... thank you for sharing! 💖
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤TONY!!!
🎉🎉🎉🎉
Tony - what the hell were you thinking with that - jazzed up big band - vers' of World Needs Now? Cuz dammm!
Although it may not seem like it, Bennett was performing here at a time when it seemed his professional career was beginning to wane. A few years later, in the mid-'80s, he would rise from the ashes and return to the musical avant-garde. The song with which the medley begins and ends is an easy-listening version of one of the most famous songs by the duo David & Bacharach. The original version sung in 1965 by Jackie DeShannon rhythmically has nothing to do with the one Bennett sings, and in my opinion it does more justice to a letter that was almost a prayer to alleviate those troubled times of war... not very different from current times... The two central versions of the medley that Bennet sings, one of them paying tribute to the great Barbra, do seem much better adapted to the style of the crooner par excellence...
Yes, the following years and into the 1970s were very difficult years for Bennett’s career, but great to see him get his due in the 1980s and beyond.
@@johnhourigan6049 One of the greatest artists that America has given to the world, with an enviable and extensive professional career like very few. Rest in peace.
Most Tony Bennett parodists get their inspiration from performances of his like this. No accident that shortly after this he recorded, "Tony Sings The Great Hits of Today," which he has disowned. He's done many wonderful performances. This wasn't one of them.
What’s wrong with it?
NONSENSE
He's so young here! I'm sorry for laughing but all I see is Alec Baldwins impersonation of him on SNL. Giggling.

who's horrible
Young in his 40’s!
