This is Warcraft 3 the board game. 3 Heroes with 3 spells each leveling up to their ultimate spell. Then a town hall type building that as you tech up you unlock new units to use with workers being built. Genius idea, can't wait to play this.
It's also better at that than the official WarCraft 3 board game (AFAIK Fantasy Flight Games' first ever published game). Granted that game does have a map to move units around on, but drops all the unit variety and individuality.
Sirlin makes great games like Puzzle Strike. Just the deluxe editions of his games there's so much and they are such high quality that it's an investment
While he's perfectly clear about the sets in the opening, Tom seems to misspeak at about 1:29 - just the prevent any confusion: The Core Set is $50 and includes Red vs Green while the Deluxe Set is $200 includes all expansion colors and is in the huge box which Tom cannot fit on his shelf.
We are not currently working on any new editions, new cards, or new expansions. In fact, think of Codex Deluxe Set as a full game with four expansions right in the box! Right now all our effort is going into developing our new fighting game Fantasy Strike; a true-blue fighting game featuring the characters from Yomi, Puzzle Strike, and Flash Duel! So while there are no plans for any additional expansions in sight, if the game gets big and the fans are clamoring for more content, we MAY consider it. In other words, your Deluxe Set will last you, we promise!
this game looks very fun and I'd love the deluxe set but $200 is a lot and I don't mean it not worth it I definitely see the value and it's there. compared to other games of the like it seems cheap but I just don't think I would have that, I'm don't want to start with the core set and slow build to everything but it looks like my only option...maybe one day
The Core Set contains the full Red and Green factions and everything you'll need to play to the "3 Hero vs. 3 Hero" game. If you want to add on the rest of the expansions, they will be available in pairs: Flagstone Dominion vs. Blackhand Scourge (Blue vs. Black) Whitestar Order vs. Vortoss Enclave (White vs. Purple) And of course the Starter Set includes River Montoya (Finesse) and Troq Bashar (Bashing).
You can order it off the website right now; the kickstarter boxes are currently shipping, so I imagine new orders will be filled in the next couple of months. Not fully certain about that, but it's usually how it goes.
Just preordered the Core + Starter sets from your website, and I can't wait! Quick question, it said preorders wouldn't ship until at least November, but your release schedule says 9/16 for Core + Starter. Can I expect those to ship when they're available?
Hah, I guess they're not certain either. They use ShipNaked as their service, and ShipNaked are very good, but sometimes it's a little unclear exactly what their shipping timeline is. For instance, some people have got their Codex sets already! (from the Kickstarter) I'm still waiting, and others have got some indication but not an exact date. However, I presume September/October is a reasonable estimate, since the production went ahead without hitches. The Kickstarter is shipping three months early!
If you get the Red vs Green core set, and then the Blue vs Black and White vs Purple expansions, will you have everything that's included in this deluxe box? Because getting those 3 on Amazon seems to total around $108, as opposed to $225 for the deluxe set. I'm curious about why anyone would get the deluxe version instead. Would I be missing anything if I just get the core set and 2 expansions? Also, do the core set and the two expansions also come with the cards from those small intro boxes?
You would be missing: neutral colors, playmats, 4 of the binders and map cards. Neutral colors also come in the starter set. The core set comes with two mounted game boards.
You can buy it from Sirlin Games. Not certain what stores will sell it, but I would be willing to be Cool Stuff Games will. They tend to have kickstarter games.
Reviews of games never seem take price into account. I was really turned on to this but it is £50 for just 2 colours (core set) and closer to £200 for the deluxe. Yeah it's great Tom but £200!!! That kills it for me.
One color has at least as much content as three MTG decks. A "deck" in this game has much more options than a regular card dueling game. You can play with only one color for ages and not get bored. You also don't have to buy multiple boxes to have enough cards for a competitive deck. The decks are competitive right out of the box. :)
OK. That sounds more appealing thanks. For me though, I will probably avoid because I will feel like I have to have everything. It does sound amazing though...

I love this game ! Played 20 times, and every game I'm astonished how deep the gameplay and strategies are.
Awesome! Really cool to see this overview all in one place; I can't wait to try and get this game going with people I know.

I just preordered a copy of the Deluxe Edition. It sounds amazing.
Can't even wait to get mine!
Codex is such a great game. It is repayable for years and years.
I also thought about Protoss while watching :D that token at the end looked like little spy ship from SC (can't recall its name).
Blue in Magic also has illusions which disappear when targeted by spells ;)
This game sounds great. Just I hope I don't spend $200 and then six months later Sirlin puts out a "revised edition" -- I have been burned before.

Thank you
Any updates on the Codex development as of yet?
Sirlins Games what do you recommend for getting binders for the neutral decks that don't have on from the deluxe set?

Are the other expansions going to come in a box like red/green set with the same MSRP?
Any update on when this will be released at this point? I am excited to try it.

Aaand it would appear Sirlin Games deleted the comment with the release schedule :p

Yep! They've been great with shipping, so I'm not worried. It'll get here when it gets here.
Thanks tom. Looks like I'm out $200. lol

can somebody answer this man?

will this come to retail or is it ks exclusive?

Looks like the deluxe is $200.
I guess I can see that.
