What a great boat find. It is so suitable for your needs, has space, light and storage. I love it. Just found your channel, binge watching and enjoying your journey sharing. Thank you xx
Lovely boat, it just goes on and on! Loads of space (I'm very jealous). Those windows are called, "Side-hatches" - occasionally "duck feeders" or "swan hatches"
The hydraulic thrusters were extremely useful, especially with a 70ft narrowboat. And, being hydraulic, they could run for an unlimited amount of time, which was a bonus. Thanks for watching. W.
Hi Magnus & Wendy, We just started watching your vlog and it has become one of our favorites. We especially like that you video your travels and that you let us know where you are. Most other vlogs tend not to share their locations, which is understandable. Love seeing the villages and other points of interest along the way. We have enjoyed several narrowboat holidays and are planning to get our own narrowboat in the next year or two. So we're following you with much interest.Keep up the good work. Ken & Marylou
If I ever make it back to the UK I will use hydraulic drive on my boat. It really is versatile and you can power so much from the engine without worrying about voltage drops and wires getting hot etc. Great boat!
I had never heard of hydraulic drive on a narrowboat before. It makes so much sense. Yes there is a slight loss in fuel economy. But narrowboats aren't exactly the most economical thing in the first place.
When they built the canal system in the UK if was done 100% as a private project, so they held costs down by creating a narrow class of boat and barge. The system is unique to the UK - European canals and barges are much wider, being predominantly based on the existing river system.
Thank you for the tour. I would love to know more about the hydraulic system!! No others like it? Any drawings available? Please describe your system as much as you can. I really enjoy hearing about how two very different types of technological systems can work together in and be handy.
Really enjoying the Bloggs. Like your idea of a pub in view must be visited😎 My wife (Shelagh) and I are planning a similar adventure within the next 18 months. We hail from the Wiltshire area (Kennet and Avon canal) but we will be buying from the Northampton area. We will be travelling down from Grand Union and the the Oxford canals on to the Thames. We join the Kennet and Avon just outside Reading. Will be very interested how you find travelling on the Thames. Good luck and if you're down our way drop me a line. Would be good to meet up for a pint and a chat. (Email: ricwes58@gmail.com) Regards Rick and Shelagh
Hi Fed. It’s a wonderful way to see the country. You simply travel with your house ‘on your back’ and pull up wherever you want (with a few constraints here and there). W.
lovely boat guys, it's huge... Thought you were joking when you said you were at the first half. The hydraulic drive sounds interesting. thanks for the tour.
nice boat. I think it surpasses "not bad".Seems heaps more spacious than the 50 footers shown on here. the extra ten or fifteen feet really makes a difference.Do the bow thrusters help much and do they allow you to steer in reverse? Batten down the hatches there's a storm brewing. or maybe a beer! cheers.
I don't think you should be getting rid of the diesel boiler, maybe just move it a few feet closer to the bow (to the other side of the wall) so that it is in the utility room area. it's always a really good idea to have some redundancy in your heating, plus it's always on and is silent, unlike like the wellesco. nice boat sober Aussies.
One day i'll get me Harris Tweed coat on, brush some Burberry Edt and get goin on with mi own boat. Going to be an English country gentleman. Thx for the video.
Wow, when you said through this door is the back half, I thought you were kidding. Guess I'm not a narrowboat expert yet despite watching dozens of videos. I'd like to learn more about your engine. I would have guessed it would be too noisy to be in the art studio while cruising, but I suppose not based on what you said.
I have a RV here in the states so I’m interested in the practical part of this lifestyle. Where do you get your fresh water for cooking and bathing and washing machine? Where do you dump gray water? You pump the toilet I know. How cold is it in the winter? Thanks
There are water points everywhere along the canal system. Grey water goes into the canal system and black water points are quite regular. Its cold outside in the winter but nice and warm in the boat.
Hubby is now addicted to your channel! Magnus where did you get the led strip lights from ? He wants to do something similar in his T4 camper! Loving the beer scores! Are you coming near the Midlands again or the Crick boat show?
Hi Sue. I bought the LED strip lights from B&Q. They are very power friendly. We are heading north to Leicester, Nottingham then York for Christmas. I would love to go to Crick but I have to go back to Australia and do some work to fund our next adventures. Cheers
I'm impressed, love the boat. Pity about you removing one of your heating redundancies. The Diesel stove with coils and a Webasto or other hydronic tied together, would make a perfect pair, with redundant circulation pumps. Worst case you have a solid fuel heater in the bow and a Diesel heater in the stern. ;-)
It would have been nice to keep the second diesel water heater but I doubt it would ever get used. I hope that the next owner of the heater will make use of its fantastic design.
A nicely laid out "narrow boat" lol....... I often wonder why do they put the wood fires near the front door rather than somewhere near the middle of the boat ??? is it to keep an open plan layout ??? I would think you would lose heat out of the front doors and getting hot air down to the bedroom would be hard ??????
It's very much like a subway car. It takes a while to get used to such a narrow boat. After a while you work out where the passing places are! Thanks for watching. W.
Thank you for the video, quite an interesting mode of life & travel. I don't think we have these in Canada as far as Google can tell. Out of curiosity, what is the ceiling height, I'm about 1.98m tall, would I feel cramped in one? Thanks again.
We are "continuous cruisers". That means we must keep moving under the terms of our waterways license. When I go back to work in April we will need to put her into a marina for a few weeks but then it's straight back into cruising the cut...
About time somebody has a decent sized studio. Love it but needs a sit bath. After researching the benifits of a bath, i never will choose to be without.
Very nice, I especially like the separate compartment at the rear. How did you go about buying the boat? Where you still in Australia or did you buy it after arriving in the UK?
Ahh i dident know they moved good idea! i love how open the boat is and as you stated you got rid of allot of items which helps to open it up more and make it feel like there is more space.
It took a bit of getting used to, but it had bow thrusters which made it much easier. You just have to plan ahead a little more when turning corners. W.

That boat is so long!! It goes on forever!!
Thanks for the tour, I never knew of narrowboats at all then I find they are nice houseboats cool
Thanks for the tour, I love that you guys actually have a hobby room! The only thing I would change is to put removable windows in the side hatches...
I like how it was terse and not too wordy, thus long. Perfect length. Saw Aslan on Amazon prime tonight, came here.
What a great boat find. It is so suitable for your needs, has space, light and storage. I love it. Just found your channel, binge watching and enjoying your journey sharing. Thank you xx
Hi Clare. So glad you are enjoying our vlogs. Welcome aboard! W.
Just spent a lazy day here in sydney watching all your boating/ beer drinking adventures. Thanks for posting them all, keep enjoying.
Hi David. Thanks for watching mate. Cheers
Lovely boat, it just goes on and on! Loads of space (I'm very jealous). Those windows are called, "Side-hatches" - occasionally "duck feeders" or "swan hatches"
Wow...very nice narrowboat. Maybe the best I have seen. Love the hydraulic thrusters. Thanks so much!
The hydraulic thrusters were extremely useful, especially with a 70ft narrowboat. And, being hydraulic, they could run for an unlimited amount of time, which was a bonus. Thanks for watching. W.

Ken & Marylou
Hi Ken & Marylou. Thank you for your kind words. We look forward to maybe bumping into you on the canal system one day. Cheers
Thanks for the tour. It's a nice layout and really spacious for two. A boat full of surprises!
We still find surprises.

Hi guys. Spent a most enjoyable hour watching your videos. You're such a great couple and you've totally inspired us. Much love. All hail the ale xx
Hi Emma. Thank you for watching. More ales to come soon. Cheers
Very cool boat, surprised how much more there is to it compared to the smaller ones!
I’ve never seen a narrow boat here in the states. Wow! It’s a floating city block!
Wow. We own a 30' sailing yacht and the idea of. 70' boat just makes me smile.
Andreas Duess. It's very narrow though.
Wow, I learned something new today. Did not even know these narrow boats even existed.Happy trails to you from here the USA.
Thank you. W.

I like the light wood interior.
Thank you for the tour. I would love to know more about the hydraulic system!! No others like it? Any drawings available? Please describe your system as much as you can. I really enjoy hearing about how two very different types of technological systems can work together in and be handy.
Hydraulic? Is it like hydraulic drive on a garden tractor?
Good to know. thanks for the prompt reply.
Thanks for letting us have a look around :) Lovely boat! Definitely "Not bad" :)
Thanks Ronnie
Great to be able to follow your journey, love it xx
Thanks Corrie. We're loving it.
Hello Corrie Gardner
im looking at living on a boat........ you have just made my mind up. Thanks . p.s. loads of love at you.
Hi Simon. You won't regret it. Cheers
Lovely narrow home you have there. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Rick.

The doors in the sides of the boat are called hatches. Loved the tour by the way. Viktoria E. Rotenbourg-Benson.
Thank you Viktoria. Glad you enjoyed the tour. Thanks for watching. W.
what a lovely name!
Excellent!
And greetings from another boat dweller.
Hi David. Thank you and cheers.
plus the diesel stove doesn't need any electric so will continuously work without draining your batteries or the need to run your engine!!
Why isn't the fridge in the kitchen? Cool boat! Camping on the canal...would love it!
I have no idea why. It was there when we bought the boat. Cheers
@@LifeinaNutshell Short wire run to genny to counter line drop, maybe.
Very fascinating, i dont see this everyday in fact where i lived narrowboat is not a thing, so its very fascinating to see.

Jessie Colt Our pleasure

Yes she's a big one. The bow thrusters are fantastic when reversing. Makes life easy and it's NOT cheating.
Wow, hydraulic power is impressive to me. Well done!
Nice lay-out. Nice boat!!
what a set up ! beautiful
Hi Scarlet. I'm glad you like her. We like her too. W
Love your narrow home, please share a video of your cheese making!
Will do!!
Great tour, thanks for sharing.
Hi Richard. Thanks for watching. W
Thanks for the tour - very noice barge ;-) You appear to have heaps of swan hatches too. Cheers!
Hi Stuart. There are no shortage of feeding points. Cheers
Sorry for this very "ignorant" question. Does it mean you power your engine with only water? You do not buy gasoline or diesel?
The engine runs on diesel and that in turn drives a hydraulic pump which powers the boats systems
You could have fitted a stubbie holder on the tiller extension.
Enjoyed this video
Very nice...... 6 foot 10 inch beam..... Hard to imagine and im a sailor. I'm use to cramp spaces but 6.10 ??
They are narrow but you get used to it. Cheers

when I said diesel boiler I meant diesel stove!

My Gosh! It’s so big! Very nice layout!
Hello Gerry wilson
love the music to by the way. And I think the hoges gday would be a great opener and probably become as infamous as the old "not bad"
I like the guitar piece too.
Lovely boat !! Enjoy🎥

Nice looking boat 😉
Very nice - clean.

Nice tour and boat. Plenty spacious
Hi Joe. She was a very spacious boat. We loved her. W.
What a lovley barge
Wow! No pub in there! Nice boat.
We are working on it.
Fantastic!
Thanks John. W.
I didn't know they have those in Australia as well.
It’s in the UK.

I agree that it makes much more sense to put the heater in the middle.
Lots do have it in the middle it's a much better idea for even distribution of the heat
In a " Nutshell" you have a nice good spec, boat Magnus great buy and like you say not to much work to do.
Hi John. Yes we are very happy with her.

Hello Royandloraine Northwood
Happy memories!
One day of sun blighty weather
Wow! Never saw the inside of a 70 foot narrowboat. Very cool! Lot's of extra room. Is it hard to manuver?
It's easy to manoeuvre once you get used to it. The bow thruster helps.
Good point. I can see where a bow thruster would be a big help in tight situations, in holding position and in backing up. Thanks!
Fantastic video love it 😊
Thank you Stuart. W.
Those little windows are called side hatches nice boat :)
Thanks Hannah
Duck hatch.
korean love again drama
cool boat
Portholes,hatches are covers
It looks like it but im not sure. Do British narrow boaters travel on the right as we do in our cars in the U.S.?
Yes all boats worldwide travel on the right.
@@LifeinaNutshell That is interesting.

I'm only 6ft so it doesn't feel cramped. I think you may just scrape the ceiling though.
Is there a height restriction on the structure of them like there is a width and length restriction?
Nice. I'll hopefully be getting one eventually.
Do you intend to continuously cruise or do you think you'll make use of marinas to any great extent?

I think that makes at least 3 of us. Cheers
Wow this is really Long Great layout
Very nice, I especially like the separate compartment at the rear. How did you go about buying the boat? Where you still in Australia or did you buy it after arriving in the UK?
Jonathan I flew over to check it out after lots of emails back and forth from Australia.
Hi, Smart looking boat :) If you are looking to sell that Refleks I may be interested in taking it off your hands?
gillywild. We have actually decided to keep it and get it all spruced up and heating. Cheers
just seen this video great boat! do the stairs get very hot while fire is on? looks a little to close with no heat reflection.
In fact they do get a bit hot. I move them away when we have a roaring fire. Thanks for noticing. Cheers
Ahh i dident know they moved good idea! i love how open the boat is and as you stated you got rid of allot of items which helps to open it up more and make it feel like there is more space.
nice narrowboat. have a great time
What kind of toilet do you have? cassette or composite?
Cassette. But we are planning on a pump out later.
Does the length of your boat prevent you from accessing certain canals?
Yes there are a few up north that we are to long for.
very nice boat
Thanks Jason. Cheers
it's good to go on holiday on that boat and it's a hard working holiday doing the locks
do you have to be careful not to change gear while the engine has power with dual controls?
No you can go from full forward to reverse no problems at all but I always like to do it below 1500 rpm as not to put to much stress on things.
Wow your boat is beautiful
Hi Eva. Thank you. We love her. W.
Lovely boat is it difficult to stear?
It took a bit of getting used to, but it had bow thrusters which made it much easier. You just have to plan ahead a little more when turning corners. W.
Lovely boat. What are your plans? Cruise for a year, then sell and back to Australia or is this now permanent? Enjoying the videos. Great stuff.
We are going to give it a year or two then sell her and buy a yacht then spend a couple of years sailing back to Australia. Well that's the rough plan
Great stuff. Hope you enjoy every day.
Nice boat. Do you still own her?
Beautiful,
What a lovely Boat - perfect size :)
Hi Sean. Yep its a perfect size to live on. Cheers
Was there generator capacity to run the washer and galley stove?
We used the generator to run the washing machine. It worked really well. The galley stove was gas. Thanks for watching. W.
Aussie in a narrowboat. We need them here in Oz, methinks.
Hi Sigrid.
Wouldn't it be wonderfull. Cheers
Needs a full size double door stainless fridge.
Hi Lucky. If only we had the room. Cheers
why is there such muddy water in the canal ?
Coz the canals are all clay.
Clear . Greetings from Russia . I wish you happiness and health!
"Not bad". Thanks for the tour. Really long.
Cheers Steve.
Not that long, under 8 minutes
What is average price for this ? How long is the canal ?
Hi Clint. The canal system in the UK covers about 2000-3000 miles. You can get a decent secondhand narrowboat for around 35-45,000 pounds. Or, if you want to do work you can pick one up for less. These are for a 60ft ish one. You can also get them for over 100,000 pounds too. W.
How much does a narrowboat like this cost?
About £60-100k
@@LifeinaNutshell Dang, not exactly pocket change
How much to convert to pump out toilet?
I don’t know. A fair bit I would expect.
It's a beauty size!!
