Putting polystyrene in the bottom is an interesting trick... usually adding things like leca or gravel in the bottom is not advisable as the root tips tend to wilt if dry. But perhaps polystyrene holds just a bit moisture so that doesn't happen :)
There are a couple of reasons why I use polystyrene, not least of all that it is cheap and easy to find. The main reason though is that it makes for a much lighter pot. If you have an extra large pot with a lot of grit in it, it can be nearly impossible to lift. For this reason I've switched to perlite, instead of grit, for the potting mix.
I really enjoyed this video. You did a wonderful job! I'm really looking forward to seeing the flower. My spike is just starting to grow. In a few months I might also have a bloom to show.
Thank you, Bill. I do hope we both get wonderful spathes this year. I think the length it has taken me to bloom this has made it all the more exciting :) Thank you for subscribing too
Michael Beckert. Loved videos ,my vodoo lily will flower this year.after many growth years. I plant my bulbs directly in my garden.great soil lots of compost. In connecticut. They grow vigorously all summer, lift bulbs after frost, cleanup bulbs. And dezplay on dinning room table.bulbs with flower buds flower without potting. This makes this amazing even more interesting. LOL. Give it a try
+Michael Beckert Sounds like a good recipe, Michael. I might try your suggestion with one bulb this year. :)
WOW! thats such a humongous Amorphophallus Corm/bulb, it's the size of a pumpkin haha! its amazing :-) and its going to be so wonderful to see the flower :-) Such a wonderful video Rachel, Thanks so much for sharing and sending you and the Family tons of love for a magical evening ahead XXXXX
Watch out for the smell, Lyn. We will smell it before we see it. I can hardly wait!
You do a great job editing and presenting Keep up the good works.
Thank you, Jerilyn. There are lots of facilities on YouTune these day and they make it all quite easy. Thank you for watching :)
I can't wait to see it bloom!
Oh, me neither. I will make a vid as soon as it starts stinking the house up :)
Great! I can't wait!!!!
Lovely.....amorphophallus.....
Alright!! Will wait for your sniff test on this one!!
Thank you for watching, Radha :)
We've just subscribed, we love your orchids and other plants. We grow amorphophallus too and have several species some very rare ones, wow do the flowers smell bad!
Thank you for subscribing. Yes the flowers on A. konjac smell bad but nothing compared to the Dead Horse arum. That is my worst stinker.
I can hardly wait to see the flower. You are so patient to wait six years to see the bulb/corm flower.
I can hardly contain myself either, Elona. It is going to be an enormous stinker too!!!!!!!!!! I think we will smell it before we see it. lol.
in Indonesia there is also a kind of that is also imported into Japan
Very good.
we call it porang. in Latin it is called Amorpopalus muelleri. we have cultivated porang.
Great video. Im growing these but I've got six shoots coming from the bulb or corps what ever you want to call it. Should i cut the shoots or just leave them?
I wouldn't cut off new shoots. If they are old growths that are winding down and browning then you could cut them now but best to let them run their course.
nice bunny
I buy one today in Bornem, Belgium
Nice
.porang contains 65% glucomannan. Porang is in Indonesia. I'm a Porang farmer.
Very good
Ma, alla fine, ha fiorito l' amorphophallus?
Se si mi potresti dire le caratteristiche del fiore?
Ciao

Cool! Just interested - do you grow any other species of Amorphophallus? :)
Hi there. I grow a number of stinky aroids but only the one amorphopallus. I used to have A. bulbifer and A. napalensis but, sadly, they are no more.
Many that one in indonesia can you make commercial bussines with amorphophallus mis. ? If you can we can joind.
Thank you
mmmm looks delicious
+Alan Chan Ah well. I'm sure you know they are edible. I have never eaten them myself.
Gardening at Douentza konjac jelly is popular in china
+Alan Chan Is it a savoury or sweet jelly? Sounds interesting but I will not be eating my bulbs :O
Gardening at Douentza sweet and it will need quick lime to remove the toxic substance inside so we can eat it
@@GardeningatDouentza in my country we eat the stem of the leaves not the bulb
in my place called lorkong
Voodoo lily shouldn't be grown in the house atmosphere, it's graveyard flower. I think 🤔
The smell is bad but it would rot outdoors in my climate so it has to come in
Hi How are you? I want to buy seeds... Do you can to sell me? Please
Sorry, I have nothing for sale
Have you eaten any
No. I prefer to grow them 😊
