I noticed you leave your shoes outside the tent so i figured I'd give you a tip I use, carry a couple pairs of disposable shoe covers like doctors and nurses use to put over the top to keep spiders and other bugs out or put them on the bottom if they are dirty so you can put them in the tent and keep your tent clean, some are waterproof and work great
I had a hideous looking centipede crawl into one of my shoes one night in J. Tree. I always put my shoes in the lower corner of my tent ever since. Another time we were camping at Death Valley and our neighbor had one shoe missing in the morning. Campground host came by and told us the local kit foxes like to steal things at night, especially people's shoes. Now I make sure any small items are either with me or in the car just cause you never know. Happy camping everyone!
I used to live in the city of 29 Palms and on the base. The desert has a beauty to it and the sunsets there are truly amazing. One of the houses we lived in was a red house in town at the top of the hill. I was told that it was used as a hospital once upon a time. It was haunted and had some crazy noises and things that happened.
Yay! Finally a video from you, Shawn! I have been checking every day for at least 3 weeks. I know you are busy; just glad you are ok. These desert videos are interesting to me, because I've never been to the desert and am not too likely to go, so I am seeing areas I would never see without your vids. That's the first time I've ever seen a Joshua tree. Yes, guess you brought the rain, which is a good thing. Keep on hiking! You have quite a following! My family still can't believe I am watching hiking videos, but I really enjoy yours!
Yaaaay !!! New video! We've seen all of your videos probably 50 times haha ! It's not really funny but it kind of is, too. Only you could go to the desert and get rained on 😂 They should hire you for drought stricken areas 😊 loved the scenery and that gorgeous sunrise. Thanks for taking us with you !!
I'm no backpacker, but I highly recommend car camping in Joshua Tree, followed by chilling out in nearby Palm Springs, for an excellent two-part getaway. Even if you're not in the wilderness, those night skies are something else.
Enjoyed your trip. The best trip I had I forgot rainsuit, it poured rain as soon as I started and was soaking wet the first day. Found garbage bag 2nd day and was dry from then on. Thank God for extra set of clothes. It rained for 4 days and nights. Have never forgotten rainsuit since. Keep up the good videos. Beautiful scenery in Joshua Tree, love all the rocks.
Another sensational Sintax adventure! We’ve been out to JT and I was like being on the surface of another planet. The Beef-aroni made me laugh out loud! “RUSTY!” (Have to be a Seinfeld fan . . . )
The light in your eyes when cheeseburger time was near 😂 In and Out is great Im hopin it was delicious as expected! This video was really special I have a lot of love for southern Cali. Thanks for takin us along!
Been watching you since my very first backpacking trip as a wee lad. Glad you beat the rain and dodged el chupacabra to make it out yet again. Quite the change from your original trails
Amazing! I thoroughly enjoyed watching your progress daily last year. It became part of my daily routine and inspiration. I hope to literally follow in your footsteps in the coming years. God bless you and I am sure He's got something great in store for you!
My first backpacking trip was in Joshua Tree. It was about 6 years ago now. I haven’t looked back since that trip. Absolutely love going out in the woods. I was at least partially inspired by your early videos. Thanks!
Hello 👋 my outdoors friend, it is good to see you again. Greetings from Northern California. Thank you for the guided tour of Joshua Tree. I've never been there before. Most of my outings have been on the Eastern slope of the Sierras, El Dorado county and the Lassen Park area. Stay safe out there. I look forward to your next exciting outdoor adventure. 😊
Hey Sintax, still thoroughly enjoy all your hikes. My participation in hiking has been delayed due to knee replacements and spine surgery/fusion. Your videos has kept me inspired to continue hiking when I physically can. I wanted you to know, there have been some real times you go through during your hikes that I go through in my mind- especially when you lose your way/trail. It's textbook recovery you have that I've done that feels so good when you find your way forward again- just like life! Hike on! Chris and Reese Gabriel P.S. We hiked Joshua Tree in 2018 and found a campground and, I swear, a cutout to sit in in the top of one of the rock outcroppings that positioned a person to watch the sun set! P.P.S. Unless you know your stars, don't hike at night as orientation can be crazy mixed up!
You are in our 'back yard'. I really love living here - I hope you enjoyed your visit. That side of the park seems to collect mylar balloons - we ALWAYS take a trash bag for them & haul them out. I hope you come back on a clear, moon free night to get a better experience with our stars.
Great to see this video of desert camping in Joshua Tree! You need to wear sunscreen even when it's grey and raining out. Hope you enjoyed your In n Out burger.
Winter sunrises in the SoCal desserts are so beautiful! I used to drive to Rancho Mirage before dawn and I used to see those daily! Unbelievably beautiful! I never liked them in the summer because it is always so hot!!
Hey happy to see you were out on another adventure at what a gorgeous interesting desert love the plants growing through out it . and landscape in general very cool. Wish we had some deserts to explore here in Ontario.
Great showing the paper map. Many folks do not understand they might aught have one. I would never go into some huge area like that without a real map.
Welcome to the world I spent a lot of years camping w/ my son's scout troops in. The California deserts. The ground is either too hard for tent stakes or too soft and you can't get proper tension. THIS is why I prefer a free standing tent when I went out there or a hammock if I was up in the woods (like up in Idyllwild).
Another awesome adventure. I did the Chuck Keiper in 2022 in July and it was more blown down and overgrown. Rough trail mate. I didnt see a reroute though so up and over all those blow downs. I was also covered in ticks. And my introduction to Analplasmosis and Lymes disease. Great trail otherwise.
Sintax! If you can go as far away as Joshua Tree, I'm still hoping you will visit and video Virgin Falls Pocket Wilderness near Sparta, TN. Then, if you are still into cheeseburgers, you can get a burger at Frank's, 194 Churchill Drive, Sparta, TN! Pretty sure you can bring your dog to the Falls. Likely to be some Eastern Redbuds blooming by Mid-March.
Hey Shawn, It is SOOO good to see you! Great video as always, glad you did not get caught in a terrible washout…. Did you get a double double In-And-Out burger with some animal fries? 😁- So good! We used to live in Lancaster California, with terrain much like you hiked in. but we moved to North Idaho where, I am very sad to say, there are no IN-And-Out Restaurants 😢. (But lovely mountains with pine trees and, yes WATER😂 ) Looking forward in the future for videos with Sarah and the pooch! Until then, take care and God Bless! Mike and Barb
Do you drink coffee? I understood the part about no freeze dried, but I am still confused why no stove? Today a stove weighs ounces. Take some boil in a bag with you and put the food in them prior to heading out. Thanks for a great video. I have wandered through this park for years.
We were just in Joshua Tree. What a beautiful place. When did you film? We were there in January! Update: I think this was the Pineapple Express storm we left and left the area for. It got crazy in areas.
I guess it would not be a good idea to get in an argument just before leaving on a hike...you might not get that pickup! haha. Different landscape for sure with living on the east coast. Surprised you have not run into any snakes or anything yet being up in them rocks!
Im asking myself why husband and I dodnt do that when we were out there in 21. We car camped for a few days, but could have stayed longer had we done some back country. GO TO ANZA BARRAGO WHOLE YOU ARE THERE!!! Free camping and tons of hiking, you will love it! It was my favorite place and we spent 12 blissful days there until bad weather shooed us out.
That's a cool looking area. I've camped in the Badlands and that was a nice area. Camping in a desert area is different, but more peaceful and you do really get to see the stars a lot better. I hope Sara didn't forget to pick you up. 😂 Are you still out west?
Stop and smell the roses! Enjoy the rain! Enjoy your surroundings! It’s not cold! So it’s raining! Why were you complaining the whole video We have watched you for years! What is going on?
Yup, the park actually recommends that. They just suggest that you put a name and date on it and stash it somewhere discreet along your desired path. ...in my case I didn't exactly have aroute set in stone, but it would have been nice to have a cache, for sure.
So I'm watching this and I can't help but wondering if you have to worry about big cats there. Google says this: Mountain lions (also called pumas and cougars) are one of the largest predators in Joshua Tree National Park. Safe to say you were cognizant of this fact and prepared with whatever big cat deterrent works for you?
Hey I have a question: I make videos for fun. Mostly hiking videos. How do you deal with negativity ? I’m getting beaten stupid on FB for posting a marked trail head with a trail system that’s has pretty substantial infrastructure. Just wondering if someone of your caliber has to deal with people claiming you “ruined” something etc. just looking for input from the pros. Random I know, but between you and shug your in the top two :) JAY
If you ever hear coyotes next to your tent it means they have lost all fear of humans and will attack. Do not run. Stand your ground. You will need to fight them off right there. Yell, Look bigger, throw anything, kick, hit and fight for your life. It may take multiple victories, but eventually they will give up. Bears and cougars are completely different predators and that tactic will not work.
She wants to get out there, but we need a spot that is okay for our pup as well, which we've discovered is a little tough in SoCal. She should be out there once we head back up north towards Montreal though 👍😀
What are you gonna jump off. It’s not high enough anywhere you’re gonna break your ankles, or your neck. It’s not a very nice place looks like snake territory.
I noticed you leave your shoes outside the tent so i figured I'd give you a tip I use, carry a couple pairs of disposable shoe covers like doctors and nurses use to put over the top to keep spiders and other bugs out or put them on the bottom if they are dirty so you can put them in the tent and keep your tent clean, some are waterproof and work great
That is an awesome tip, thank you!
Yes, that's an awesome idea

Scorpions, frogs, and other critters love to hide in shoes. Definitely a good idea to cover them or bag them at night. Keep up the great work! 🤠🖖
grocery bags work just as well.

My favorite RUclipsr of all time. Keep it up. Love the content every time. Thank you.

Who said Rainman wouldn't strike again. Bushyboy Oz
Fantastic sky.
I'm digging these free form off-trail videos you've done lately. Cheers!
I'm no backpacker, but I highly recommend car camping in Joshua Tree, followed by chilling out in nearby Palm Springs, for an excellent two-part getaway. Even if you're not in the wilderness, those night skies are something else.

Love the barren wilderness vibe out there....on my list.
Another sensational Sintax adventure! We’ve been out to JT and I was like being on the surface of another planet. The Beef-aroni made me laugh out loud! “RUSTY!” (Have to be a Seinfeld fan . . . )
a true wilderness
Indeed
Amazingly cool area!

Wha a brilliant atmosphere bud, outstanding and such a atmospheric adventure!
Amazing! I thoroughly enjoyed watching your progress daily last year. It became part of my daily routine and inspiration. I hope to literally follow in your footsteps in the coming years. God bless you and I am sure He's got something great in store for you!
Fantastic! A syntax 77 video 😊 it's worth waiting the two years between videos 😉 Best wishes from this side of the pond 👍
Thanks, same to you over there! :)
@@sintax77 Thank you 😃
My first backpacking trip was in Joshua Tree. It was about 6 years ago now. I haven’t looked back since that trip. Absolutely love going out in the woods. I was at least partially inspired by your early videos. Thanks!
It almost looks like it’s on fire super cool

Welcome to our backyard.
Winter sunrises in the SoCal desserts are so beautiful! I used to drive to Rancho Mirage before dawn and I used to see those daily! Unbelievably beautiful! I never liked them in the summer because it is always so hot!!
When I camped at the Chino Hills State Park once, I had coyotes right outside my tent. Scary for me!
man great views in this video.
Great video man!
AWESOME. SYNTAX HAS A NEW VIDEO!!
Hey happy to see you were out on another adventure at what a gorgeous interesting desert love the plants growing through out it . and landscape in general very cool. Wish we had some deserts to explore here in Ontario.
I love your stuff so much, thanks.
Nice! Good stuff
Heads up again for the jumping cholla cacti! "We've been through this before, right."
I'm a slow learner 😂
😁But it is fun to "learn with you."@@sintax77
Great showing the paper map. Many folks do not understand they might aught have one. I would never go into some huge area like that without a real map.
Great to hear from you Shawn 👊🏻👍🏻 Thank you my friend, appreciate you! Hope you're doing well 🤞🏻

Thank _you_!
So crazy to see you out in the desert SW, compared to PA, and the NE!
The rains are coming behind you.
I have properties in 29 palms and when we rehab them my son and I spend all the time rock climbing and a few nights camping. Indian is a great place.
Glad to see a new video! I was just wondering if you got lost in your RV.
Very cool backpacking adventure. Now enjoy that cheeseburger Sintax77 !
Looks like upside down mushroom. Cool
Sintax! If you can go as far away as Joshua Tree, I'm still hoping you will visit and video Virgin Falls Pocket Wilderness near Sparta, TN. Hey Shawn, It is SOOO good to see you! Great video as always, glad you did not get caught in a terrible washout….

Good to see you.!
Ahh....my Sintax77 fix..Happy trails
Chem trails.
Beautiful 😍😍
I hope you took a trip to San Jacinto Mtn around the corner.
Shawn's drop off day rule . Don't piss Sara off until after she picks him up ;)
Do you drink coffee? I understood the part about no freeze dried, but I am still confused why no stove? Today a stove weighs ounces. Take some boil in a bag with you and put the food in them prior to heading out. Thanks for a great video. I have wandered through this park for years.
In and Out Burger ….Double Double!
Looks like I missed something before this video, and I have to go back and check the videos. Did you move to Southwest?
We were just in Joshua Tree. What a beautiful place. When did you film? We were there in January!
Update: I think this was the Pineapple Express storm we left and left the area for. It got crazy in areas.

Always good to see one of your videos. Have you thought of sharing some of your travels in the rv on your Instagram page?
Choose Your Own Adventure. I still have all those books

We have watched you for years! What is going on?
Thank you! You are not in New Hampshire anymore. :)
Deadcat please. This would be so great without the wind noise. ❤
Man you’ve got an iron stomach eating cold canned food! I’m surprised you didn’t bring a stove
I think one is allowed to cache water in JTNP
Yup, the park actually recommends that. They just suggest that you put a name and date on it and stash it somewhere discreet along your desired path. ...in my case I didn't exactly have aroute set in stone, but it would have been nice to have a cache, for sure.
Red sky at night sailor’s delight. Red sky at morning sailor take warning. I wonder if it applies in a desert?
You will definitely want to avoid the yuca they are painful as well as the jumping cactus
Far cry from the White's in winter yes?
Just a little bit, yes 😅
In n Out tip... order two triple triples, extra tomatoes, no lettuce, no onion, extra ketchup.
Good video. Greeting from LA, California. Are you far from home!
Greetings! We actually just left Cali the other day after 3 months of hiding out from winter 😅🌵
how was the In n Out?
You are a Trip! I love you though.😊❤
Did you move out West? ❤
At 43 minutes it looks like a good-sized boulder is moving.
No rain gear tie the tent stake loops together and wear the tent as a cape.
Hey I live in big bear... that's my back yard... ish
2 in and out burgers within bout 8 miles. San Diego ca
Oh look sintax popped up on my feed.
How is it out of the hammock?
Seemed like you were off trail more than on trail
seeing that big dead tree in the desert is pretty strange.
Yes. I was wondering if you might have stopped the videos. Thanks, I'm really looking forward to see your new adventure!!
Looks like you have not pegged your tent down and your guy ropes should be up on the sides. That’s why your tent is wanting to float up.
Somewhere along the way u went thru a portal and landed on mars
So I'm watching this and I can't help but wondering if you have to worry about big cats there. Thanks , good to see you out.
Did you move to Ca?
How come Sarah doesn’t come with you anymore?
She wants to get out there, but we need a spot that is okay for our pup as well, which we've discovered is a little tough in SoCal. She should be out there once we head back up north towards Montreal though 👍😀
I hope this does not sound too weird, but your looking really fit. Doesn't seem like your on keto anymore with the chilli.
I'm on that southern border Hormel diet. It's all the rage in SoCal 😂
Did dude just eat a can of Beefaroni without heating it up?? 😬😬🤢🤢
I think I would of brought my trekking poles along. You never know when you might have to stab a rattle snake in the head....
I’m more of a forest, Woodland, kind of guy, the desert to me is boring.
Ask for animal style in n out the 💣
What are you gonna jump off. It’s not high enough anywhere you’re gonna break your ankles, or your neck. It’s not a very nice place looks like snake territory.
Not even one cloud there looks like a real cloud...
